SHAW -- James Miller Shaw of Midnapore, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 1997 at the age of 85 years. James was born in Midnapore, AB on Tuesday, June 25, 1912. He was a third generation descendent of the Shaw Family of Midnapore who homesteaded south of Fish Creek in 1883. Jim lived all of his life on land settled by his grandparents and farmed that land, now developed as the communities of Canyon Meadows, Millrise and Shawnessy. A gentle man of generous nature, he was an active member of I.O.O.F. Hillhurst Lodge No. 46, having joined in 1939 and was a Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Alberta. He was proud of, and had very much enjoyed his participation in the Oddfellows Eye Screening Program. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and upon retirement travelled the world several times. His gardens and the enjoyment he derived from growing are fondly remembered by, and will continue because of seeds passed along to friends and family. Jim was a Gold Card Member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers and long time benefactor and active member of the parish of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Midnapore. Jim is survived by his sister Irene Brown; and step-children, Bill (June) Reeves, Bob (Mary) Reeves and Marilyn (Wendell) LePan; and by step-daughter-in-law Jeanne Grey. He greatly influenced and will be lovingly remembered by ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and an extended family of nieces, nephews and their children. Jim was predeceased by wives, Lila (1971) and Mary (1993), step-son Jack Grey, parents, Maltman and Maud Shaw, sisters, Frances Borgal, Annie Lineham, Mary Hunt, Carrie Klavano, and brother Bill Shaw. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Fish Creek Chapel", (14441 Bannister Road S.E.), on Thursday, December 11, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Griffin of the Anglican Christ Church, Millarville, AB officiating. Graveside Service to follow at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, (Midnapore), 14620 Macleod Trail S.E. Following the Graveside Service, relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Shawnee Slopes Golf Course, 820 - 146 Avenue S.W. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to "St. Paul's Church MCES Trust Fund", St. Paul's Anglican Church (14620 Macleod Trail S.E.), for the preservation of St. Paul's Church and Cemetery. SHERGER -- Lucas Gerard Sussenguth, beloved first born son of Wayne and Chris, passed away on December 6, 1997, born in Calgary on December 5, 1997. Along with his parents, Lucas is survived by his grandparents, Linda and Jerry Sussenguth, and Shirley and Tony Sherger; as well as his great-grandparents and all his aunts, uncles and cousins. Lucas will live on forever not only in our hearts but also through his gift of sight to the H.O.P.E. Foundation. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and midwives at the Foothills Hospital N.I.C.U. and Maternity Ward. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foothills Hospital N.I.C.U. STANDEN -- Cyril Conrad Standen of Langley, British Columbia, formerly of Calgary, Alberta, passed away at the Langley Extensive Care Unit on December 5, 1997, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 93 years. Cyril was born in Oxford-Shire, England and immigrated to Calgary with his family. He took his grade school here in Calgary, later to take up the trade of Blacksmithing. In the year 1920 he became interested in repairing spring leaves in automobiles and trucks. With this ambition in mind, he founded "Standens Ltd." in 1924. Cyril served as president of the Company until the year of 1990. During his lifelong ambition, his main interest to acquire the latest methods and machinery for manufacturing leaf springs and agricultural components. From the small blacksmith shop and six people the company has now grown over the years to a complex of two hundred and forty-thousand square feet of building and just over four hundred people employed. Cyril always had a great consideration and admiration for his staff which is still carried out until this day. He will always be remembered as a giant in the industry throughout Canada and the U.S.A. Cyril is survived by his family, three grandchildren, Douglas and Diane Kilbourn, Donald Kilbourn, David and Aimee Kilbourn; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alec and Helen Standen of Calgary, Reg and Ruth Standen of Langley, British Columbia; a son-in-law Walter Kilbourn and his wife Eva; a stepson and stepdaughter, Leonard Gates and Sharon Ruptash; as well as numerous other extended family. Cyril was predeceased by his first wife Ann in 1968 and second wife Lillian in 1995, a daughter Margaret Kilbourn in 1987, three sisters and three brothers. Funeral Services will be held at Riverview United Church (824 Imperial Way S.W.) on Saturday, December 13, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Hillson officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Burnsland Cemetery. TIMMINS -- Gordon A., passed away in Marin County, California, on November 14, 1997 at the age of 63 years after a year-long battle with cancer. Gordon was born in Lethbridge and moved to Calgary as a child. He was educated in Calgary and was accredited as a chartered accountant in 1959. He was employed by Price Waterhouse & Co. in their New York, Venezuela and Miami offices. He moved to San Francisco in 1964 and began his twenty-seven year career with the legal firm of Bancroft & McAlister in 1969 as a C.P.A. Besides his wife Carolyn, Gordon is survived by his brother Robert (Greta), four nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his sister Peggy Mottishaw (Roy) in 1980.

TOWNSON -- Sharee Townson, beloved wife and best friend of Fred; devoted and loving mother of Ryan, Jennifer and Krista; cherished daughter of Frank and Myrna Marcinowski; and wonderful sister of Dave Marcinowski (Carol) and Bev Hourie (Jack), passed away suddenly at Foothills Hospital on December 5, 1997 at the age of 40 years. Predeceased by her grandparents, John and Kathryn Marcinowski, Douglas Mitchell and Thelma Barrett, Sharee is also survived by her grandmother Elma Mitchell; and numerous other relatives, especially Marilyn McCauley. She will be dearly missed and remembered as one who made a lasting impression on all who met, knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. VYSOHLID -- Mrs. Margaret Vysohlid (nee Kerr) of Calgary, passed away peacefully into God's loving hands at the Glenmore Auxiliary Hospital on Sunday, December 7, 1997, after a long illness, at the age of 68 years. She grew up in and attended high school in Blairmore. After high school, she began working as a legal secretary and in 1952, moved to Calgary with her husband and children where she continued her career as a paralegal, which lasted over thirty-five years. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and friend and will be missed by all that knew her. She will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband Walter. Margaret will be deeply missed by her two sons, Robert and Thomas; her three grandchildren, Michelle, Carman and Brent. She also leaves to remember her, her sisters, Betty Lund of Calgary and Isa Randahl of Coronation; and family members, Milan and Dorothy Vysohlid, Annie Hughs, Geraldine, and Lou Harpur; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. WARD -- Mr. Eric Connington Ward, beloved husband of Mrs. Anna Ward of Calgary, passed away suddenly on December 6, 1997, at the age of 82 years. Eric was born in Edmonton on March 5, 1915. In Eric's early days, he played semi pro hockey in Edmonton. He then joined Burns Foods, which was the start of a lifelong career in Alberta's beef industry, only to be interrupted by his service as a pilot with the R.C.A.F. during World War II. Eric was an avid sportsman and had a love of the outdoors. He was a member of the Calgary Horticultural Society and well known for his wonderful garden. Eric belonged to the Masonic Lodge for over fifty years, and was actively involved with the Shriners. Besides his loving wife, Eric is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Doreen and Len Richards of Calgary, Brian and Karen Ward of Oakville, Ontario, and Carol and Robin Irwin of Calgary; as well as five grandchildren, Deborah, Randy, Glenn, Tricia and Emma; and three great-grandchildren, Justin, Kendra and Chad. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Rae Ward of Brentwood Bay, B.C. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), today, December 10, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Murray Dodds of Foothills Alliance Church officiating. WOOD -- Hazel E. Wood passed away December 3, 1997 at the age of 80 in the High River Nursing Home. Hazel was predeceased by husband Walter in 1973 and longtime companion Jim Fleming. She is survived by daughters, Pat Wylie, Jeanette Merkley, Dorothy McKernon; sister Evelyn; sister-in-law Deborah; thirteen grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at the High River United Church on Saturday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m.

WYNNE -- Mary (Mamie) McKenzie Wynne passed away at the Foothills Hospital on December 8, 1997 at the age of 86 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank B. Mary is survived by sons, Lorne (Janette), Jerry (Shirley); and daughter Doreen Fowlie, all of Calgary; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Mamie and Frank were lifetime members of the Optimist Club and past members of the Calgary Rock & Lapidary Club. Mamie and Frank resided in the Renfrew district for fifty-three years and Mamie spent her last three years in the Mountview Seniors Apartments. Mamie will always be warmly remembered for her loving generosity of spirit to all of those who knew her and her devoted love and support to her family. She will be deeply missed. CAMPBELL -- Michael Robert Campbell, of Calgary, passed away suddenly December 7, 1997 at the age of 37 years. He will be forever remembered by his best friend and companion, Linda Campbell; their daughter Christine; his sister Kelly Friesen (Rob), of Irricana; uncles, Carl Campbell (Sharon) of Airdrie, Don Peacock, and Jack Peacock (Bunny), all of Calgary; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Marion Campbell. Funeral Services will be held at Pierson's Funeral Home, 4121 - 17 Avenue S.E., today, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. CAPE -- Winnifred Mary passed away at her residence on December 7, 1997 at the age of 79 years. Winnifred will be sadly missed by her brother John Andrew Cape; nephews, Gordon, Steve (Margaret), Russell (Genny), and Dennis (Barb); as well as by numerous great-nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by Betty Anne Buchner. Winnifred was a native Calgarian and attended Hillhurst and Crescent Heights Schools. She had a lifelong love of sports and enjoyed watching all sports. Winnifred was an ardent golfer and over the years held memberships at Regal Golf Club, the Elks Golf Club, and Inglewood Golf Club. Travelling the world was another joy that Winnifred loved to experience. She was employed with A.G.T. for thirty-six years, and was a longtime member of St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Calgary. Winnifred loved life and will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral Services will be held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, 1407 - 7 Avenue N.W., on Friday, December 12, 1997 at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend R.H.G. Rodgers officiating. Interment to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace. If desired, memorial tributes in Winnifred's name may be made to the organization of the donor's choice. CHARTIER -- In loving memory of Jean-Guy who passed quietly at home after a brief illness on December 7, 1997 in his 63rd year. He will be forever missed by his wife and companion of thirty-three years, Arline (Midge); daughter Jacqueline; son Raymond, both of Calgary. He also leaves behind a brother Len of Beloeil, Que. Jean-Guy served for twenty years in the RCAF where he made numerous deep and lasting friendships across Canada. Jean-Guy was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Number 1 Branch.
