BARBER, Effie On Tuesday, December 12, 2000, Mrs. Effie Barber of Edmonton passed away at the age of 82 years. She is survived by one son, Gale (Eileen) of Spruce Grove; two grandchildren, Jodie and Nathan (Heather); one sister, Ada Fraser. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; and two sisters, Violet and Ivy. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road, Edmonton (1/2 mile east of Manning Drive on 167 Avenue - 1/4 mile south on the old Fort Road). Her final resting place will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta Lung Association, Box 4500, Edmonton, Alberta T6E 6K2. BEHNKE, Ernest Ivan On Tuesday, December 12, 2000, Mr. Ernest Behnke of Galahad, Alberta passed away at the age of 72 years. He is survived by one sister, Margaret Le Gear; two nephews, Scott Le Gear and Wayne Le Gear and his wife, Lisa; and a host of dear friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. from the Hope Lutheran Church in Forestburg with Pastor Rick Chappell officiating. BENKO, Helen On December 13, 2000, Mrs. Helen Benko of Edmonton, formerly of Carvel, passed away at the age of 96 years. She is survived by her two sons and one daughter, Walter (Stella) of Edmonton, John (Mary) of Carvel and Mrs. Pat (Ray) Wickstrom of Edmonton; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; also by relatives in Ukraine and her close friends, Felix and Maria Graca in Redwater. Predeceased by her husband, Nick in 1980. Prayers Sunday, December 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709-111 Avenue. Funeral Service Monday, December 18 at 11:30 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel. BLAIR, Cecilia (nee: Gillies) On December 12, 2000, Cecilia Blair of St. Albert passed away peacefully at the Youville Home in St. Albert, at the age of 93 years. She was born in St. Albert on August 30, 1907, the eldest daughter of Angus Gillies and Mary Anne McDonald. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie and Marcel Venne of St. Albert; grandchildren, Maureen (Rob) Kuchera, Amy Venne of Edmonton, Scott (Angie) Venne of St. Albert and Bruce Venne of Grande Prairie; her great-grandchildren, Sarah, Samuel, Zachary, Benjamin and Andrea; and one brother-in-law, James H. MacDonald of Alexandria, Ontario. She is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews, Bob Gillies, Betty Anne Baron, Joan Lazaruk, Carol Gerritsen, Donna Brewster, Janet Arthurs, Stan Gillies, Susan Burden, Bev Byrne, Vernon Gillies and Mervyn MacDonald. Cecilia was predeceased by her husband, Allan B. Blair; a granddaughter, Lorrie Marie Venne; her sisters, Marcella and Therese Gillies; and brothers, Donald (D.A.), Alex and Bernard (Bunny) Gillies. Cecilia graduated from Camrose Normal School in 1928 and taught in St. Edouard, Killam, Radway and Sacred Heart School in Edmonton prior to her marriage. In 1948 she began teaching in St. Albert where she retired from the staff of St. Albert High School in 1972. She was a member of the St. Albert Women's Institute, the Catholic Women's League and the St. Albert Historical Society. Prayers will be held at St. Albert Funeral Home (Hwy 2 & St. Vital Ave.) on Friday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. and Father Garry Laboucane OMI will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Albert Catholic Church on Saturday, December 16, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. BOWCOTT, Elsie Elizabeth On December 13, 2000, Mrs. Elsie Elizabeth Bowcott of Edmonton, beloved wife of John Bowcott, passed away. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides her loving husband, one daughter, Linda Wowk of Edmonton; three grandchildren, Aaron Hare, Ashley Wowk and Chelsie Wowk, all of Edmonton; two sisters and three brothers. BROSSEAU, Albert Joseph On Wednesday, December 13, 2000 Albert Joseph Brosseau of Edmonton passed away at the age of 55. He leaves to mourn his mother, Dorothy; his friend, Leslie Van Zant; his three sons, Stephen Hugh (Heather Austen) of Fort McMurray, David Edward (Trina Lee), and Shawn Robert, both of Sherwood Park; three grandchildren, Amanda, Bailey and Tess; one brother, Amie Brosseau (Audrie); two sisters, Norma Pelletier (Laure), and Elaine Bauer (Ron). He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Jean; one daughter, Dianne (Harvey) Heske; two grandchildren, Brent (Colleen) Knudslien, and Denise (Darcy) Zimmerman; two great-grandchildren, Ashlee and Brandon; brothers, Stanley of Ryley and Joe, Edward, Emil and Louis of Edmonton; two sisters, Jenny Kozaway of Ryley and Rose Daems of Washington, USA. Frank was predeceased by his son, Floyd on June 8, 1996; brothers, Carl, Paul, Lloyd, Mike; sister, Helen Sadownyk; mother, Pauline in 1976; and father, Peter in 1958. She is survived by her loving children, Matt Bykewich of Derwent, Nancy Charchun of Derwent, Stella (Peter) Trachuk of Vermilion, Kay (Nick) Jacula of Vermilion, Nadia (Oliver) Wasnea of Mundare; seven grandchildren, Orest Charchun, Gordon Charchun, Sonya Charchun, Lawrence (Susan) Trachuk, Les (Eva) Trachuk, Allan (Jeanette) Trachuk, Brian Trachuk; five great-grandchildren, Chad, Cory, Logan, Jeremy and Austin Trachuk; one sister, Anastasia of the Ukraine; also numerous nieces and nephews.
