BRAUER - Hans Joachim Brauer passed away on June 13, 2000 at the age of 83 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara; his children, Fred (Paula), Harold, and Margaret (Fred) Waterman; and grandchildren, Eric, Elizabeth, Mark and Barbara. Funeral Services will be held at LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOME "Chapel of Remembrance" (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.) on Friday, June 16, 2000 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. BROWN - Olive Brown (Hampden Smith) passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at the age of 78 years. Olive was the devoted mother of Wayne (Clair), David (Morna) and Susan (Jeff Dunn); loving "Nana" to grandchildren, David, Kerri, Catherine, Christopher, Kelly, Colin and Graham; and special friend to Joyce Bradford and Marie Barber. Olive was born in London, England on October 3, 1921 and, as a war bride, came to Calgary where her children were born and raised. She was employed at the University of Calgary until retirement. Olive loved her family, gardening and classical music. She will be remembered with love and sadly missed by all who knew her. A Service to celebrate her life will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. on Friday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m., Rev. P.H. Burrill officiating. Cremation Calgary Crematorium. COWLING - Raymond Cowling passed away peacefully on Monday, June 12, 2000 surrounded by his family at the age of 72 years. Ray was born on Wednesday July 7, 1927 in Benwell, England. During the 1940's he served with the Royal Air Force, after which he trained as a machinist, working in the shipyards of Newcastle. In 1949, he married Irene Thompson, and together they raised two daughters. In 1964, the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Calgary where they have lived for the past thirty-six years. His sister Hilda Lydon predeceased Ray in 1998. Ray will always be remembered with love and laughter by Rene, his wife of fifty years; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lesley and David Wong, and Cheryl and Dan Carse; his two granddaughters, Jessica and Samantha Wong; and by his many friends. Our lives have all been enriched by his warmth and his wonderful sense of humour. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Fish Creek Chapel", (14441 Bannister Road S.E.), on Friday, June 16, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. To e-mail expressions of sympathy: condolences@mcinnisandholloway.com, subject heading: Raymond Cowling. COX - Raymond Bernard of Qualicum Beach, B.C. passed away June 14, 2000, aged 77 years. Survived by his loving wife June; one son Bryan (Marilyn) of Saskatoon, Sask.; one daughter Barb (Greg) Lloyd of Clavet, Sask.; four grandchildren, Cheryl, Jenna, Amanda and Samantha; one sister Phyllis (Jack) Davies of Edmonton, Alberta; numerous nieces and nephews. GEBBIE - Dorothy "Dot" Jean Gebbie passed away on June 9, 2000 at the age of 73 years. Dot is survived by her son Brian; grandson Brian Jr. and his wife Tara; and great-grandchildren, Alexander, Allison and Andrew Gebbie. She was predeceased by her husband William (Bill) Gebbie. Dot was born in Rimbey, Alberta to Estella and Norman Kennedy and was schooled throughout Alberta. In 1944, joined the CWAC (wartime); upon returning to Alberta she met and married Bill. Her working career began as a store clerk, then she worked at Zellers North Hill until her retirement in 1986 after twenty-five years of service. A Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL 3220 - 4 Street N.W. (across from Queen's Park Cemetery) on Thursday, June 15, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery in the Field of Honour. HELWERDA - Pietertje Gerhardina "Gerda" Helwerda, born on November 17, 1923 in The Netherlands, passed away peacefully after a lengthy courageous battle on June 12, 2000. She is the beloved wife of fifty-one years of Nick Helwerda; and loving mother of Harry (Denise) Helwerda, Carin (Dirk) Wilde; and adored Oma of Jason, Janessa and Jordan Helwerda. Gerda joins in heaven her sister Tineke Tombs and her parents. She is survived by her brother Klaas (Riet) Rubingh in Holland. Gerda was a kind, giving, caring, selfless lady who spent her life devoted to her family and friends. As a professional seamstress, she enjoyed expressing her creativity in sewing, knitting and needlecraft. Many of her friends and family have treasured mementos of her handicraft of which to remember her by. Gerda loved music and enjoyed singing in the church choir and playing the piano. She was loved by many that will miss her greatly. She was a beautiful wife, mother, Oma, sister, daughter, aunt and friend who touched each and every person she met. The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for the warm and compassionate care Gerda received from the staff of Unit 2 North at the Carewest George Boyack Nursing Home, Units 58 and 112 at the Foothills Hospital and Unit 41 at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at a Visitation at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. HOLLYWOOD - (Huish) Kathleen Hollywood was born in Calgary, on May 1, 1950 and passed away at Strathmore on June 12, 2000, at the age of 50 years. She was the loving wife of Tom and loving mother of Colin. She is also survived by her father and stepmother, Harry (Ellen) Huish; her sisters, Pat (Peter) Klein and Lorna (Barry) Kennedy; her brother Frank (Cindy) Huish; brother-in-law Vincent (Susie) Hollywood; stepsisters, Rhonda and Karen; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Kathleen was predeceased by her mother Irene. The family wishes to thank Dr. Matt Van Olm, Dr. Ben Ruther and Dr. Phillip van der Merwe as well as the staff at Tom Baker Cancer Clinic whose dedication and support were always truly appreciated.
