MICHAEL BIG SWALLOW
2008

MICHAEL (Mikey) BIG SWALLOW, of Standoff, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the age of 22 years.
Michael is survived by his parents Eric and Monica Plaited Hair of Standoff, Alberta, and Melvin Yellow Old Women of Siksika, Alberta. His siblings, Melvina (Johnny) Big Swallow, Donald (Pamela) Big Swallow, Dale Marie, Tiffany, Bradford, Bradley (Michelle) Big Swallow, Brodie Big Swallow, Robbie Plaited Hair, Scottie (Brooks) Plaited Hair, Memphis (Racine) Gros Ventie Boy, Dana (Bradley) Gros Ventie Boy. Michael leaves to cherish his memory, his son Malachi Michael Chief Body. Michael will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended families.
The family of Michael, and his extended families - Big Swallow, Twigg, Weasel Moccasin, Yellow Old Women, and Delaney invite family, relatives, and friends to pay their respects between 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. Michael’s family is sincerely grateful to the medical staff of the Chinook Regional Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their medical care and caring support.

TANNIS DEZRAE BIG THROAT
2008
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our precious little angel, TANNIS DEZRAE BIG THROAT, beloved infant daughter of Desmond and Tannis Big Throat, who went on into the Great Kingdom to be in the arms of our Lord Jesus and to join the heavenly angels on Thursday, October 29, 2008, at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta.
She is also survived by her sisters Alyssa and Lenny Brave Rock and brother Jace Small Eyes, maternal grandparents Faron Brave Rock and Gloria Eli, paternal grandparents Roland and Peggy Big Throat and great grandmother Ramona Chief Moon.
Graveside Services will be held at ST. PAUL’S CEMETERY, Blood Reserve, on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Jack Curly Rider officiating.

ANTONIA BOON
2008

MRS. ANTONIA BOON, beloved wife of Mr. John Boon of Lethbridge, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Monday, October 13, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Besides her loving husband, Antonia is survived by Henrie (Harold) Beaulieu of Lethbridge, Alberta; Anne Thomsen of Toronto, Ontario; Lidy (Maurice) de Kwaadsteniet, of Edmonton, Alberta; Ellen (Gary) Kofman, of Edmonton, Alberta; Joanne (Curtis) Lazar, of Fernie, B.C.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Ali Friele, of Putten the Netherlands; and 1 brother, Evert (Ank) Kok, of Zwolle, the Netherlands.
Toni was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where she experienced a lovely childhood until the War struck. After the War, she married her beloved John in 1949 and together they left for Canada with their three oldest daughters to begin a new life in 1957. Her boundless energy and drive contributed greatly to their very successful immigration and two new daughters were born to them in their adopted country. Undertaking all of her jobs with zeal, perhaps none were as important to her personally as the Home Support Coordinator position she held for six years with Barons-Eureka Warner. There her strong sense of social justice contributed significantly to the enhanced well-being of those in great need.
A vibrant force in the life of her family and those she met throughout her rich path on earth, Toni will be greatly missed. She lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Evert Sr. and Antonia Kok.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Larry Harkinson officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment at Mountain View Cemetery.
In memory of Antonia and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1811-2nd Avenue South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 0E8.

JIMMIE BIG SMOKE
1953 - 2008

JIMMIE MELVIN BIG SMOKE, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, August 18, 2008 at the age of 55 year old. Jimmie was born to Tom and Madeline Big Smoke on May 19, 1953.
He will be sadly missed by his loving and faithful wife of 27 years, Elaine, his daughter Nadine (Jerimiah), Son, Jimmy Jr. (Teresa), two brothers, Wilton (Hazel) of Brocket and Mark of Calgary; two sisters Alice (Patches) of New Dayton and Edna of Edmonton; mother-in-law Mary Louise Brass; brothers-in-law Randy, Carline and Colin; sister-in law Dale (Ken) Hinves; his two favorite nieces Sheila (Roland) of Calgary and Billy Jo (Ryan) of Lethbridge as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.
Jimmie received his education in Crowfoot Residential School, Hobbema Residential School, and St. Mary’s Residential School. He worked numerous jobs such as working at Peigan Public Works, Peigan Housing, Waterton National Park, Old Man Dam Security as well as volunteering at St. Paul’s Catholic Church as a maintenance man.
Jimmie enjoyed fishing, reading, bike riding and watching wrestling on TV in his spare time. His real passion was his dog Jeff, he did anything and everything for him.
Jimmie was predeceased by his mother Madeline in 1993, his dad Tom in 2005, sisters; Florence in 1963, Joy in 1973, Verna in 1974, Norma in 1992, Judy in 2002 and brothers Norman in 1986, Nephews; Oliver in 1973, Johnny in 1979, Johnathon in 1985 and Leon in 1990, Nieces; Jacey in 1974, Evette in 1991 and Lydia in 2004, as well as his father-in-law Irvine Brass in 2007.
A Wake Service will be held at Jimmy and Elaine’s residence, 1620 – 20 Street, Brocket, Alberta on Thursday, August 21, 2008 and Friday, August 22, 2008. A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Brocket, Alberta on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 3:00 P.M.

ISTVAN ‘STEVE’ BARI
November 13, 1926 - July 10, 2008

With the greatest of sadness, we the family of Istvan ‘Steve’ Bari announce his passing.
He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 10, 2008 at the age of 81 years.
Steve Bari is survived by his loving wife Irene of Lethbridge, son Steven (Kelly) Bari and their children Mercedes, Jordan and Austin, daughter Klara (Fred) Fomradas and their child, Nolan, as well as his sisters Irene and Barbara, and his brother Janos.
Steve was predeceased by his parents Janos Bari and Borbala nee: Nagy of Szendro, Hungary.
Born in Szendro, Borsod Megye, Hungary on November 13th 1926. Steve immigrated to Canada on the 7th of May in 1957 and was given Canadian citizenship in February of 1965. Steve has been a member of the Hungarian old timer’s society since 1957.
Steve’s greatest joy was travelling with his family, from Hawaii all the way to Hungary on many consecutive occasions. He enjoyed watching his children grow into adults and celebrating with their families, enjoying visits with the grandchildren and hearing about their daily adventures.
Steve’s passion in life was gardening; he had a big garden at his home which contained Hungarian Yellow Peppers that he was very proud of. He was also instrumental in designing, planting and maintaining the gardens in the courtyard of the Lethbridge Lodge.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12TH Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, July 14, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be held at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
Interment to follow at the Mountain View Cemetery.

MARJORIE BOULTON
1904 - 2008
MARJORIE BOULTON (NEE KING), beloved wife of the late Fraser Boulton passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at the age of 103 years.
She was born in Ontario on October 23, 1904 and was baptized there by her grandfather, a Methodist minister.
Marjorie is survived by her son, Ted, three granddaughters, five great grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. Marj was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well as a cherished friend to all who knew her.
Marjorie taught school in Turin, Fort McLeod and Lethbridge S.D. #51 where she had a positive impact on many young people. Following retirement in 1971 she volunteered at Dorothy Gooder School. Walking was one of her many passions. While teaching school in Turin, she walked 1 ½ miles to and from her job, and when in Lethbridge she walked from her home on 7th Avenue South to each of Galbraith, General Stewart and Allan Watson Schools. Her church was always a priority. Marjorie was a life member of the First United Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, as well as a member of Session and a life member of UCW (in the Clara King Unit, which was named in honor of her mother).
Private Family Services have been held.

FRANK BRECKA
May 22, 1921 - June 20, 2008
FRANK BRECKA, beloved husband of Marie Brecka of Lethbridge, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, June 20, 2008 at the age of 87 years.
Frank was born in Vnorovy, Czechoslovakia, on May 22, 1921 and immigrated with his family in 1930, settling in Cranford. On April 5, 1948 he married Marie Trcka and they farmed in the Readymade area until 1975 where they resided until moving to Lethbridge in 1990.
Frank enjoyed fishing, spending many hours at the fishing holes in Southern Alberta. Woodworking was another favourite pastime, giving many of his projects to family and friends.
Frank is survived by his wife Marie of 60 years, daughter Jean (Cor) Van Dyk, grandchildren Jennifer and Brenton Van Dyk, Michelle Cronkhite and Tyler (Tenille) Cronkhite, brother Henry (Lydia) Brecka and their family, special grandsons Scott and Matthew as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter Betty Ann Cronkhite, parents Martin and Elizabeth Brecka and brother Charlie Brecka.
Frank will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. with Alice Takacs officiating.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Deacon Cliff Bogdan officiating.
Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

DOMONIC BIANCHI
1919 - 2008

DOMONIC BIANCHI, beloved husband of Barbara Bianchi of Milk River, went to to be with God and his granddaughter Kendra on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at the age of 88 years. He died peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Milk River Hospital.
Domonic is survived by his wife Barbara, children; Boyd (Colleen) Bianchi, Annette (Ken) Long, Carleen (Konrad) Galts and Darcy “D.J.” (Don) Finkbeiner, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sister Anne Hooke as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 granddaughter, 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.
Domonic was born on November 20, 1919 on the farm homesteaded by his parents, Liberata and Thomas Bianchi. He lived there most of his life, farming with his Dad. He attended the school at St. Kilda. In 1955 he married the love of his life Barbara Waters and they settled on the farm to raise their family of four children. They were married for 53 wonderful years, working hard and playing together. Domonic had a great sense of humour and was always playing tricks.
Domonic was very active with the children, never missing a ball game and being an umpire when needed. He loved taking the girls to rodeos and watching them compete in barrel racing and other events, even going as far as Minot, North Dakota to attend a high school rodeo with Darcy. He was community minded, serving as director in the Pinhorn and Writing-On-Stone community pastures. He especially enjoyed being on the Bull Committee, inspecting the bulls in the spring. He was a director of the Coutts Home and School Association. As a young man he drove cattle to Coutts for the cattle buyers, a two day trip. Domonic was a faithful member of the Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and Milk River Elks. He was an advanced amateur radio operator.
In 1977, Domonic and Barbara moved to Milk River where he commuted to the farm daily. They spent several winters going south to warmer climates but found they missed the family too much. Domonic loved his family very much and nothing pleased him more than having them all gather for special occasions. He had a great love for his horses and his special dog friend Cricket who spent many hours sleeping beside him in his chair.
He will be sadly missed by his family.
A Prayer Service will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Main Street, Milk River on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Milk River on Monday, June 23, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Joseph T. Kalathiparambil Celebrant.
A reception will follow at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Interment at Archmount Cemetery, Lethbridge at 3:00 P.M.
In memory of Domonic, donations may be made to the Milk River Hospital Auxiliary, Box 594, Milk River, AB, T0K 1M0 or offer a Mass in his name.

JIM BURGE
1948 - 2008

MR. ARTHUR (JIM) BURGE of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Mary Ann Burge, passed away on May 10, 2008, at the age of 60, due to complications following hip reconstructive surgery at the Foothills Medical Center in Calgary. This operation was the result of an automobile accident in December of 2001.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles (Chick) Burge in June of 2007.
Jim was born in Edmonton, AB in 1948 and married the “love of his life” Mary Ann Byrne, in 1969. He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; daughter Marnie Janine (Rob) Simpson and grandchildren Gavin and Reese of Omaha, Nebraska; son Dennis James Burge of Calgary; mother Effie (Waddle) Burge of Lethbridge; mother-in-law Mildred (Johnson) Byrne of Lethbridge; sister Lucie (Judd) Willson of Helena, Montana; nieces Darla Lilly of Lansing, Kansas and Debra Jenner of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Jim’s public schooling took place in Coaldale culminating with his graduation from the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute. He attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) receiving a diploma in Electronics.
Jim transcended well beyond his education and enjoyed a very long and successful career with his last position as General Manager for an international GPS company in Scottsdale Arizona. Unfortunately, due to the injuries sustained in the automobile accident Jim was forced into early retirement in 2005. He had many goals for himself and his career that were left unfulfilled. Jim and his wife Mary Ann then moved back to Lethbridge, Alberta to be close to their parents.
All who knew Jim admired his courage and strength in dealing with the physical injuries, pain and multiple surgeries following the automobile accident. Jim never showed the amount of discomfort he endured daily. Jim and his wife Mary Ann have spent the last few years of retirement traveling, spending time with family and friends but above all else enjoying each other.
A Memorial Service will be held in celebration of Jim’s life at the LUTHERAN CHURCH OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD, 2406 – 11th Avenue South, Lethbridge on Friday July 16, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. with Pastor Kevin Powell officiating.
If so desired, memorial tributes may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd or to a charity of your choice.

KELLY BARTLETT
1967 - 2008

MR. KELLY BARTLETT passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the age of 40 years.
Kelly was born in Lethbridge on November 30, 1967. He is survived by his parents Sheila and Gary Bartlett, his sister Tobi Baugh, grandmothers Pat Bartlett and Isabel McNair, his nieces Breanna and Myah as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Frank Bartlett and Frank McNair.
Kelly’s greatest joy in recent years came from travelling the Pacific and Atlantic coasts to fish. Wherever he went he always managed to land the big one.
Friends and family are invited to come and share their stories with one another on Saturday, May 20, 2008 at Ericksen’s, 1715 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge between 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kelly’s memory may be made to the Lethbridge and District Humane Society, Box 783, Lethbridge, AB, T1H 3Z6.
