SYVERSEN -- Clara Syversen (nee Hausermann), died January 18, 1998 at the age of 83 in Calgary. She was born April 13, 1914 in Youngstown, AB, and resided most of her life in Calgary. Predeceased by her husband Ben in 1991, Clara is survived by daughers, Linda, Karen (Ron) Chapman; son Fred (Jean); grandchildren, Rob (Andrea), Michael, Ken, Kevin and Grant; and two great-grandchildren, Devannie and Zachary. Clara is also survived by a brother Ernie of Vancouver; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. TROFINUK -- Alex, aged 59 years, beloved husband of Sheila Trofinuk, Canmore, Alberta, passed away January 19, 1998 following a courageous battle with cancer. He is also survived by a son Mark (Jamie) Trofinuk, Chemainus, British Columbia; a daughterRamona (Terry) Lockwood, Canmore, Alberta; four grandchildren; two brothers, Steve Trofinuk, Summerland, British Columbia, and Nicholas (Carol) Trofinuk, Canmore, Alberta; a sister Leda Dana, Palm Desert, California; three nieces and one nephew. Memorial Services at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 810 - 7 Street, Canmore, Alberta, Thursday, January 22, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. B. Beveridge officiating. BOWHAY -- Three weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday, Tom Anderson Bowhay has gone to be with his Lord and Savior. He is survived by Dot, his beloved wife to whom he was a devoted husband for sixty years. He is also survived by his eight children, Loraine (Kent) Liang, Louise Ellis, Mavis (Don) Nagel, Arlene (Ron) Miller, Allan (Thelma) Bowhay, Colleen Hutchinson, Jim (Therese) Bowhay, and Bob (Karen) Bowhay. As well, he is survived by his seventeen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren; his brother Bob; and two sisters, Louise and Lil. He was predeceased by his grandson Tim, four brothers, and two sisters. Tom was born on a homestead near Three Hills, the eldest son of Charles (Doc) and Loraine Bowhay. He attended Normal School in Calgary in 1928, where he met Dot Hunley, who became his bride in 1937. They bought their farm twelve miles northeast of Rocky Mountain House, which included the Bingley Post Office and store, and resided there for fifty-five years. Tom taught for thirty-three years in various schools throughout central Alberta. In 1965 he retired from teaching. Due to the implementation of Rural Route delivery, the post office closed the same year. He continued with his farming until moving to the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, where he resided until his passing. Tom enjoyed nature, hunting and fishing. He took great pride in his family and his dogs. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Fundytus and to all the staff at the Bethany Care Centre for their wonderful care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Billy Graham Association of Canada, P.O. Box 841, Station Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2R3 or the charity of one's choice. BREMNER -- Mary Emily, passed away January 19, 1998 in Prince George Regional Hospital, at the age of 44 years. Mary is survived by her loving family, sons, Matthew Edward and William John Altenhofen; daughter Michelle Nadine Waldal; father W.T. Bremner; brothers, Alvin, David and Paul Brauti and Edward Bremner; sisters, Carol Fuller, Nora Warren, Clara Tanner, Colleen Lamming, Lorna Gutsche, Doris McMillan and Lillian Hartman; and numerous other relatives and friends. Mary was predeceased by her mother Mary Desange Bremner. A Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at Prince George Funeral Service Ltd. with Celebrant Father Chris Lynch. DRISCOLL -- Helen Irene Driscoll, beloved wife of Mr. Robert Driscoll of Calgary, passed away at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home on January 19, 1998 at the age of 82 years. Helen was born on February 26, 1915 in Assiniboia, SK. Throughout her life she worked as a nanny, as a painter, a tailor, seamstress and a mail sorter at the post office. She had a love for painting, enjoyed gardening, crafts and camping. She loved animals. Helen and Bob travelled across Canada and around the United States. Helen had a great strength in her will and a great sense of humour. Besides her loving husband, Helen is survived by a son James Albert Brewer: a daughter Vaneta Ilene Crittenden, both of Calgary; and five grandchildren, Jamie, Megan, Peter, David and Daniel. Helen is also survived by one brother Roy and wife Theresa McLaury of Everett, Washington. FEAREY -- Mina Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 1998 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 95 years. Born February 19, 1903 at Belgrade in the State of Nebraska. Predeceased by her husband Albert E. (Bert) Fearey in 1971. She is also predeceased by her sister Delia and her three brothers, George, Guy and Russell. She is survived by her two daughters, Audrey Knoll (her husband Jack is deceased) of Edmonton and Joyce McClement (husband David) of Calgary; and three sons, Albert (wife Dorothy) of Edmonton, Murray (his wife Joan is deceased) of Condor, and Gordon of Vancouver, Washington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At her request, private family Graveside Services were held on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 3:00 p.m., at the Sylvan Lake Cemetery in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. Flowers are gratefully declined.

HASKETT -- Mrs. Elsie Irene (nee Inglis), born June 24, 1927 in Calgary, faithfully departed this life for a renewed spiritual life on January 20, 1998, aged 70 years. She is survived by her beloved son David and his wife Brenda, Gail Branscombe and her husband Mike of Fredericton, NB, and Jane Haskett and her husband Bob Headley of San Diego, California; and cherished grandchildren, Jennifer and Laurie Wismer, and Kathryn, Kevin and Kelly Haskett. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Elsie's memory to the Canadian Cancer Association. A private family Service will be held in Vancouver.

JONES -- Stacey Eric Allan Appleyard Jones. On January 18, 1998, Stacey Jones of Wetaskiwin, passed away at the age of 25 years. Stacey is survived by his loving wife Tamara (nee Wickstrom); son Dylan; his parents, Norma and Gordon Jones of Calgary; brother Lester (Karen) Jones of Calgary; sisters, Norma (Clint) Nelson of Strathmore, Tammy Jones (Shane) of Calgary; Grandmother Ruth Appleyard of Calgary; Grandmother Mary Jones of Calgary; five nieces and nephews, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; Tamara's family, Ernie and Shirley Wickstrom, Granny B., and Grandmother Wickstrom, Randy and Corrine and Lucas, all of Thorsby. THOMAS -- Orville Bruce. Mr. Orville Thomas, late of Barrhead, Alberta, passed away on January 19, 1998 at the age of 72 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter Alma and her fiance Scott of Edmonton; two sisters, Kay (Earl) Bowler of Calgary, and Lorna Rollof of Edmonton; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie and his parents, Herb and Alma Thomas. WOODROFFE -- Mr. Harvey Allison Woodroffe, P.Eng. (retired) of Calgary, passed away at his residence on January 17, 1998 at the age of 88 years. Harvey was born on April 7, 1909 in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. He was raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia and attended Bloomingfield High School. In 1940, Harvey married Marie Kelly in Nova Scotia. During World War II, he was an officer with the R.C.A.F., as an engineer for construction. After World War II, he worked for the Federal Government, the Department of Public Works and as a civil engineer with the Trans-Canada Highway Division. He retired at the age of sixty in Calgary, Alberta where he resided. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James, Donald and Linda; three brothers, Hary, Victor and William; a sister Grace; and a god-daughter Gail. Harvey was predeceased by his wife Marie in 1981. BERNARD -- Joseph L. (Joe) Bernard, beloved husband of Florence Bernard of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital on January 21, 1998 at the age of 80 years. Together Joseph, Florence and family moved from Montreal to Edmonton in 1962 and settled in Calgary in 1964. He worked as a Cement Mason for Genstar Construction until his retirement in 1984. Joseph served overseas during the Second World War and as a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 1. Joseph is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Bernard. Besides his loving wife Florence, Joseph is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Gerry Lonnberg, and a grandson Samuel, all of Calgary; two sisters, Annie Bernard and Rita Agnew of Prince Edward Island; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his brother Fred Bernard and sister Loretta Perry. BROMLEY -- Arthur Henry (Art) Bromley, passed away at his home peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his loving wife Stella; sons, Herb (Ginny), Barry (Connie); five grandchildren, Rob, Debbie, Ruth, Paul (Nancy), and Stephen; along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one grandson Michael. Art was born on August 19, 1914 at Summercove, Saskatchewan. He attended Moose Jaw College as well as Luther College in Regina. After Normal school, he started teaching in Southern Saskatchewan, marrying Stella in 1938. In 1949, he moved to Edmonton to start a new career as an electrician and contractor. In 1959 he combined his two previous careers to become an Electrical Instructor at SAIT in Calgary where he was known to hundreds of young man as "Uncle Art". Finally he retired in 1979 to enjoy his family and friends. Art will always be remembered by his family as a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Crowfoot Chapel" (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Kramer, President of Concordia University College of Alberta officiating. COXE -- John Richard, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, at the Tom Baker Centre on January 15, 1998 in his 47th year. John was the loving husband, best friend and soulmate of his beloved wife Brenda M. Coxe, and loved father of John Wesley Gordon Coxe. John is also survived by his loving sister Janice Wrobel-Cole of Bayfield, ON; his stepbrother Jack (Pearl) Kelf of Burlington; and his brothers-in-law, Brian Pronger and Jim Bartley. John will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews including Tracey Lynn (David) Stone, Marshall Musikov, David Wrobel and Paul Wrobel; great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Jordan and Rebekah Stone, and Cody Wrobel. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Edith Coxe, and Gordon and Muriel Pronger. John will be deeply missed by his lifelong friend Ralph Beney of Fergus, ON, and other close friends whose lives were enriched by his caring and giving nature. John was born and raised in Brantford, ON, where he taught elementary education after completing his Bachelor of Arts (French) at the University of Guelph; Bachelor of Education at Queen's University and Master of Education (Psychology) at the University of Toronto. In 1979, John and Brenda moved to Calgary where he worked for the Calgary Board of Education as a Counsellor at Ian Bazalgette Jr. High; a visiting teacher within the Board and finally as a Resource Teacher at numerous schools across the city. John was a dedicated teacher who believed that all children are special and helping them was a privilege. John, an avid reader, appreciated music, the arts, as well as drama-acting and doing the make-up for Storybook Theatre. John and Brenda recently joined the U of C Ballroom Dance Club, which he enjoyed immensely. John liked nothing more than having friends over for dinners (which he and Brenda prepared together) followed by conversation into the late evening. He always loved the Rocky Mountains and the weekends away he and Brenda shared. John's beloved Westies, Waffles, Honey Bear, Duffy and Katie were his constant companions. Memorial Services celebrating John's life will be held at Southminster United Church, 3818 - 14A Street S.W., on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 2:00 p.m., Rev. Harry Taylor officiating. Cremation. Interment will be held later at Mount Hope Cemetery, Brantford, ON. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tom Baker Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary T2N 4N2, The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Rd S.E., Calgary T2G 3Y6, or a charity of the donor's choice. GERVAIS -- Loretta Delia Ofstedal Gervais of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at the age of 97 years. "Etta" was born of a French-Canadian father and a German-American mother in Brainerd, Minnesota on August 3, 1900 and as a young girl emigrated with her parents to their homestead near Tomkins and Piapot, Saskatchewan. She married Alfred Simon Ofstedal in Swift Current and they resided in Saskatchewan, Fertile, Minnesota and Calgary. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred in 1944, later by her second husband Noel and last year, by her eldest daughter Bernice Porter. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Ellanor Geddes of Calgary, Alleen Butler of Edmonton; six grandchildren in Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver; ten great-grandchildren and by all those others whose lives she enriched with her energy and compassion. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Fish Creek Chapel" (14441 Bannister Road S.E.), on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 2:30 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at a later date.
