MACARTNEY

Mr. William (Bill) Macartney of High River passed away at the Ponoka Hospital on January 8, 2001 at the age of 86 years. Bill will be dearly missed by his wife of 60 years Bernice (Kamins) Macartney of Little Bow Auxiliary Hospital,Carmangay, AB. His daughter Christena Haworth-Macartney of High River and her children Bill, Daniel and Robert Haworth, and Breanne Jalbert. His son Robert Macartney and wife Ann and their family of Ft. Myers, Florida. His daughter-in-law Helju Macartney of Victoria, BC and her children Arnold, Adrien, Genevieve and Jessica. He was predeceased by his son Kenzie and granddaughter Heather. Bill spent 5 years overseas in World War II, was a fisherman in BC, a rancher in Alberta, ran his own business in Ontario. At the age of 52 he went back to school and obtained his degree in social work. He worked as a social worker until he retired at the age of 65. Bill then returned to the west and worked as a security officer at the Saddledome in Calgary until his late seventies. Bill will be fondly remembered as a real 'Character', a man who could always make you laugh, a vanishing breed. A graveside service was held on January 12th at the Eden Brook Memorial Gardens in Calgary. Condolences to the family can be sent to Bernice Macartney, Little Bow Auxiliary Hospital, Box 160, Carmangay, AB.

CAMPBELL

James (Soup) Frederick, suddenly passed away at the High River Hospital on March 29th, 2001. Born to Nellie and John Campbell in Arcola, Sask. on Feb. 13th, 1938, he took his schooling in Kisbey, SK. At age 17 years, he joined the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, 2nd Battalion, then the P.P.C.L.I. serving for over 20 years in Cypress, Germany and Alert Bay, Nunavut. After retirement he worked at C.F.B. Calgary for 6 or 7 years. Predeceased by his mother and father, he is survived by his best friend and companion for more than 21 years, Shirley Gascoine, two sisters Irene Trofeminkoff, Saskatoon, SK, Jean (Jim) Dumur, Kisbey, SK and one brother Jack (Harriet) Campbell, Edmonton, his aunts and uncles May and Harvey Fingler, High River, Lil Brems, Carlyle, SK and W. Brems, Salmon Arm, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 3rd at 2 p.m. at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High River. The Rev. Jeanne Forte of St. Benedict's Anglican Church officiating. Cremation followed at Parklawn Crematorium. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary, 1920 - 11 St. S.E., Calgary, T2G 3G2, the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, T2G 3Y6 or the charity of your choice. Arrrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River (652-2222).

KIRTON

Leslie Norman passed away peacefully on March 22, 2001 at the High River Hospital & Nursing Home at the age of 85 years. Besides his loving wife Gladys, he is survived by his step-children Clayton (Edna) Cameron, High River; Colleen (Mike) McLaren, Port Perry, ON and Sheila (Warren) Clendining, Calgary. He is also survived by his sister Mildred Mason, Claresholm and nieces Barb (Daryl) Greene and Heather (Alden) Wells and by 14 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Les was predeceased by his parents Dick and Elizabeth Kirton, his first wife, Julia and daughter Jackie and his brother Tom, niece Jenny and her husband John Allison. Les was born on August 10th, 1915 and resided in High River all his life. Les will be especially remembered for his total commitment to his family and community. Many happy times were spent at family gatherings and sporting events as well as countless hours at his meat market and farm. A funeral service was held at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel, High River on March 28th, 2001 at 2:30 p.m. with the Reverend Jeanne Forte and the Reverend Canon Allan McCuaig officiating. An interment service followed at Highwood Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Box 5430, High River, AB T1V 1M5 or to the High River Handi-Bus, Box 5976, High River, AB T1V 1P6. Arrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home, High River 652-2222.

MILLER

Frederick Samuel Miller passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Carewest Royal Park at the age of 92 years. Fred was born on the family homestead in Mazeppa, AB on July 25, 1908. He farmed the homestead for many years as well as the adjoining quarter section. Fred then moved to High River where he was caretaker of the High River Memorial Centre. He moved to Calgary in 1965 where he worked for S.A.I.T. for 10 years. Fred enjoyed 27 years of retirement. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife Eileen, four sons Roy (Arlene), Bill (Orial), Ron (Dorothy) and Bob (Sharron), two daughters Donna (Bud) Keay and Bonnie (Jim) Johnston. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by his parent Lydia and Isaac Miller, two sisters Myrtle Miller and Marjorie Dyck, and one grandson Jeff Keay. A Celebration of Fred's Life will be held at McInnis & Holloway's 'Park Memorial Chapel,' (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at 3 p.m. To email expressions of sympathy: condolences@mcinnisandholloway.com Subject Heading: Fred Miller.
