DAVIS -- Eleanor Lillian, beloved wife of Gordon Davis, Longview, passed away at the Oilfields Hospital, Black Diamond on December 12, 1997 at the age of 81 years. Eleanor is also survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Donna Davis, Nanton; her grandchildren, Michelle and Tami Davis; and her great-grandson Jordan Davis. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill and Lena Stephenson, High River, Herb and Billie Stephenson, Okotoks, Archie and Catherine Stephenson, Windermere, B.C., and Ed Stephenson, High River. Funeral Services will be held at the High River Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 17 at 1:30 p.m. Pastors Douglas Moffat and Ben Klumpenhower officiating. Interment will precede the Service at Nanton Cemetery. A Reception will follow at the Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. SNODGRASS FUNERAL HOME LTD. (652-2222; 938-3111), Directors.

DEDERER -- Mr. John Leonard Dederer of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Viola Dederer, passed away in Calgary after a brief illness on Friday, December 12, 1997 at the age of 75 years. He is the loving father of Denise (Tony) Cooke of Calgary, David (Delores) Dederer of Medicine Hat, Noreen (Tim) Leach of Medicine Hat, and Katherine (Robert) Bordas of Sherwood Park. John is survived by seven grandchildren, Graham Cooke, Janet Cooke, Jamie Leach, Julaine Leach, Dionne Bordas, Raylene Bordas, Hayley Bordas; three step-grandsons, Grant Lefler, Boyd Lefler, Trevor Lefler; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a special caregiver Ida. He is also survived by two sisters, Esther McWilliams of Medicine Hat, and Hanna Rae of New Westminster. John was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Wilhelmina, one sister Clara Gargett, and three brothers, Albert, Alex and Rennie. John was a Lance Corporal with an Infantry Unit during World War II. He worked in family businesses throughout most of his life. John was very involved with the Gas City Kiwanis Club as a Charter Member, and was later honored with lifetime membership. He will be remembered for his love of music and his dry sense of humour. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at COOK SOUTHLAND FUNERAL CHAPEL on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 one hour prior to the Service. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. DEEPROSE -- Geoffrey Arnold Deeprose went to the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 10, 1997. A Celebration of Geof's life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Crowfoot Chapel", (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), today, December 15, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with his grandson, Pastor Dan Thompson of World Wide Church of God officiating. HAIGH -- Doreen (Ginger) Haigh, cherished wife of Ivor, passed away at home surrounded by her family on December 12, 1997. Doreen was the much loved mother of John and his wife Carol, Jim and his wife Diane and Jacqueline Cymbalisty. Grandma will be missed by Candy, Crystal, Daniel and Ian; and her great-grandchildren, Dustin and Chris. Doreen was employed by the Calgary School Board for twenty-five years. She will be fondly remembered for her love of children, her endless enthusiasm, zest for life and love of travel. No one will ever forget her infectious laughter. The family wishes to thank all who gave comfort and support during her brief illness. HENDERSON -- The family of Ella "May" Pearl Henderson (nee Middleton) wish to remember her life which ended on December 12, 1997 at the Forest Grove Care Centre due to complications of breast cancer. May was born on a homestead near Nanton, Alberta on May 10, 1916, fourth daughter of Jack and Pearl Middleton, salt of the earth prairie settlers. She attended rural schools until the family moved to Calgary in 1927, then attending Crescent Heights High School and Calgary Normal School, receiving her B. of Ed. from the U of A and teaching public school until the age of 61 years. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, George and Abey, sister Goldie Frew, cherished husband Fred T. Middleton, and beloved companion Jack Sheppard. Missing her dearly are daughter and best friend Laurie (Dr. Bill) Csokonay of Calgary; son Campbell (Rhonda) Henderson of Grande Prairie; grandchildren, Leah, Bonnie, Cayley, Emmolin Henderson; sisters, Ruth McVeigh of Calgary, LaVerne Ortwein of Olds, Irene (Bill) Oulton of Christina Lake, B.C.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends remember her diverse interests, enthusiasm for life, travel, art, music, literature, dance, nature and mostly family, which she tried to keep together to the end. The Calgary Doll Club will miss and remember her collecting and artistic talent. Confederation Park Seniors' Centre was her home away from home, with many friends to be thanked for their companionship and support. May enjoyed travel immensely, people of many backgrounds and we acknowledge Laurel and Lola, beloved Australian friends. We miss May, know we'll see her again and celebrate a life well lived. At her request, there is no Funeral. Flowers declined. HERRON -- Mr. Garnet James Herron, of Calgary, passed away suddenly at his residence on Tuesday, December 9, 1997, at the age of 61 years. HISLOP -- Stewart Mitchell Hislop passed away December 12, 1997 at his Calgary home after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. His family and friends were by his side to the end, and he will be dearly missed. Stewart was born in Lucky Lake, Saskatchewan on April 6, 1942 and grew up in Bassano, Alberta, then moved to Calgary as a young adult. He married Mary Anne McCready in February 1962, and began raising a family and started his thirty-three year career with AON Reed Stenhouse Insurance Brokers. Stewart's impact on the business and his dedication grew in increasingly responsible roles at the Calgary office, handling the international business for several years, then managing the Calgary branch. In 1993 he was promoted to Executive Vice President and moved to head office in Toronto. He was devoted to the firm, and was admired for his ability to encourage, motivate and support the people he came in contact with. Stewart is survived by his loving wife Mary; daughter Shelagh (Jay Fitzsimmons) of Parksville, BC; son Stewart (Leah Getty) of Calgary; and granddaughter Victoria. He also leaves to mourn, his mother Margaret Hislop of Calgary (formerly of Bassano); sisters, Beverly (Ed) Henderson of Whitehorse, Valerie (Syl) Tateson of Tilley, Alberta, and Jennifer (Barry) Boechler of Edmonton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Clifford in 1969, and brother Craig in 1944. Stewart was a loving husband and father, a caring son and brother, conscientious businessman, and kind friend to many. He also had a great passion for the game of golf. He will be remembered affectionately by those whose lives he touched. The family wishes to thank Home Care Nurses, Sylvi Baillie and Cheryl Whitnack, whose gentle compassion and professionalism allowed them to keep Stewart at home. HOTCHEN -- Robert Leslie, born June 13, 1929 in Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly in Calgary December 11, 1997. Robert will be forever remembered by his loving wife Elva, five daughters, six grandchildren and one brother. JONES -- Mrs. Olga (Ollie) Antonia Jones, beloved wife of Mr. Clarence Jones of Calgary, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the Agape Manor Hospice on Wednesday, December 10, 1997 after a short but courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 77 years. Ollie was born January 16, 1920 in Brandon, Manitoba. Ollie and Clarence were married in June of 1948, and moved to Calgary in 1949. She worked in the insurance industry for several years, and was the secretary for the Insurance Institute of Alberta. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and always put her family first. She took great pride in her home and garden which she meticulously maintained. Ollie was an active member of St. Bernard's Parish and the Catholic Women's League for many years. Besides her loving husband Clarence, Ollie is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and Bill Lambe of Calgary; and a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Susan Jones of Kanata, Ontario. She was the loving Nana of five grandsons, Robert and Jeffrey Lambe, and Ryan, David and Kyle Jones. She is also survived by a sister Jennie Hrushowy of Courtenay, B.C.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Jean Teresko of Toronto, Ontario. Ollie was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Mary Teresko, and a sister Helen Antonation. As well as her relatives and friends, Ollie will be missed by her bridge club of which she was a member for over twenty-five years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard's Catholic Church (711 - 37 Street N.W.), today, December 15, 1997, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. L. Michael Storey, Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. KENNEY -- Margaret Ellen Kenney (nee Penney), February 21, 1935 - December 11, 1997. After courageously living with the debilitating effects of ALS for over a year, Margaret died peacefully in her home at the age of 62. Margaret will be greatly missed by Bill, her loving and devoted husband of thirty-six years; her children, Tim, MaryAnn and Maureen; and her granddaughter Jordanna Lang. She will also be greatly missed by her sister Isabel Gorrie (Alec) of Grande Prairie; and her brother Doug Penney (Claire) of Edmonton; as well as her many friends and relatives. Margaret was born in Grande Prairie to her parents, Ronald and Jean Penney and grew up on a farm in the vicinity of Wembly, Alberta. She graduated in 1957 as an R.N. with a specialty in psychiatric nursing from the Alberta Hospital, Ponoka and the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton. She practiced nursing in Grande Prairie, Peace River, Drumheller and Stettler, between 1957 and 1961, and at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary between 1982 and 1995. Margaret lived for her family and friends, who will forever cherish memories of her gentle kindness and generosity. A Memorial Service will be held for her at St. David's United Church, 3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W., Calgary, with Rev. John Griffith officiating, on Tuesday, December 16 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers a memorial tribute may be made in Margaret's memory to the ALS Society of Alberta, Suite 400, 320 - 23 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB T2S 0J2. There is no death, only a change of worlds. MAULSBY -- Joan Carol Maulsby (nee McMullen) passed away peacefully on December 10, 1997 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 64 years. Joan will be sadly missed by her son David Maulsby; daughter Cheri Maas and son-in-law Richard; two grandchildren, Paul and Christine, all of Calgary. She is also survived by her cousins, Kerry Rankin and Tara McDowell and their families; as well as her devoted friend Barbara Kouwenberg. Joan was predeceased by her mother Kit McMullen in 1985. She will be best remembered for her patience, caring and the endless courage she possessed in the face of a life challenged by much illness and many hardships. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and it was from this love that she drew her strength. Joan's compassion for others extended into her nursing career. Trained at the Holy Cross Hospital, she graduated in 1955 and received the Gold Medal for Proficiency. She quickly advanced to the position of Head Nurse on Pediatrics and it was at this time of her life that she was the happiest. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 - 14 Street S.W.), on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jesus Ronillo Timajo, Celebrant.
