Donald Goodman

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Goodman on July 22 from cancer. Don was born in Broadview, Sask. in 1931 to Janet and Mindy Goodman. He was a paratrooper in the Royal Canadian Artillery and later worked in Moose Jaw, Sask. where he met his wife, Vera. In 1959 they moved to Sundre where they developed the Pioneer Ranch Camp. As a contractor in the Calgary area, he took the time and effort to build houses and farm buildings of exceptionally fine quality.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Vera; three daughters Cathy Goodman (Scott Paton), Susan Blomfield (Peter Blomfield), Judy Goodman (James McMahon); Vera's mother Thelma Lockhart of Moose Jaw; and his special friend and apprentice, Luc LeBlanc. He was a cherished 'Poppa' to grandchildren Sean, Bryce and Rachel Blomfield. Our family has been richly blessed with many friends and relatives who will remember Don for his generosity, his love and knowledge of horses, his entertaining stories and jokes, and his crusty common sense.

We invite you to celebrate Don;s life with us at the Western Heritage Centre, Cochrane, Alberta on Sunday, August 27 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Boys and Girls Club Community Services, 731 - 23 Ave. N.E. Calgary, Alberta T2E 1C8 or to a charity of your choice.

Marjorie Barnes

Mrs. Marjorie (Marje) Barnes of Calgary passed away quietly at the Beverly Centre in Calgary on February 1, 2000 at the age of 79 years.

Marje was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and her life was cut short by the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. She always enjoyed life and a good laugh. She made people around her feel good. Late in life. Marje started to ride horses and she competed in Arabian Horse shows on her horse Khemo KoKo. She rode western, English, show back and costume and had a room full of trophies and ribbons to her credit. Her greatest pleasure was to attend horse shows with her family and friends and enjoy competition, even with her granddaughter. Although Alzheimer's took away many things from Marje, she retained her sense of humor and smile. She loved to dance and sing and, until recently, would try to do a jig.

We will miss the smiling, happy person she was and with all our hearts hope her next life will be wonderful.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter Arlene Grad, granddaughter Kara and her husband Shawn Hansen and great-grandson Wyatt Hansen. She was predeceased by her husband Milt, as well as her granddaughter Kristine Grad.

Kathleen Geraldine Koester

Kathleen Geraldine Koester triumphantly met her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 3, 2000. Kathleen was born in Calgary on October 26, 1946 and grew up on a family farm south of Rockyford. In November of 1965 she married Thomas Harris Walls and resided in Regina for a short period while Thomas served with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a heavy duty mechanic.

In 1966, they returned to the family farm in Nightingale, and on August 19, 1966 Audra Marie was born, followed by Jacqueline Ann in July of 1967 and Cheryl Kathleen in December of 1970.

Tragically Thomas' life was taken by an automobile accident September 18, 1972. Kathleen and her girls moved to Strathmore, then High River in 1975 where she was employed by the Royal Bank. She requested a transfer and in 1978 moved to Calgary. Employers included Richfield Properties and other self employment opportunities.

Kathleen married Vaughn Cutts in August of 1980. After moving from Calgary to Strathmore in 1982, they then moved to Nanton in 1984. Kathleen worked for the Nanton Golf Club and Silver Willow Lodge. In 1988 they returned to High River and in 1994 Kathleen was briefly employed by the A-7 Ranch of Nanton. In 1995 Kathleen and Vaughn purchased 40 acres outside of High River. Regrettably, Kathleen and Vaughn were divorced in January of 1998, Kathleen remained living at the acreage until her passing.

Kathleen was a member of Midpark Christian Assembly where she felt she belonged and was loved and accepted by her church family. She was involved with ministries such as Rainbows, Hope College in Uganda and the administration of the church.

Kathleen or 'Grams' as she was known to her grandchildren lived for the times she spent with family but especially the times she spent with her grandchildren. She was very excited about the upcoming arrival of her fourth grandchild to arrive in August (Cheryl and Myles first baby).

Kathleen's favorite activities included riding her horse, Buck, particularly west of Nanton, visiting good friends, attending Christian Cowboy Church and many other Christian cultural events. Her faith in Christ was dominant in every aspect of her life.

Kathleen is survived by her children Audra (Darren) Reinhardt, their children Mikayla Jane and Karl Thomas; Jackie Clark and son Joshua David Thomas Walls; and Cheryl (Myles) Saunders. Also brothers and sisters, Fred (Twena) Koester, Rosemarie (Ivan) Walls, Richard (Chiri) Koester, Jimmy (Rhonda) Koester, Teresa (David) Feist and numerous nieces and nephews. Kathleen was predeceased by her brother Gerald Koester on December 18, 1943, her first husband Thomas Harris Walls, on September 18, 1972, her mother Margaret Koester (Heinzlmeir) on March 11, 1974, and her father Herman Koester on April 3, 1994.

Kathleen was well known and loved by all who knew her. It has been said that she had a gentle and compassionate spirit with the gift of mercy granted to her by our Lord. She gave her heart and soul in her relationships and was known to be very loyal. Our Mom would have given anything to anyone in need and had a special concern for children who were hungry or lonely. She will be missed passionately by all who knew her, but we rejoice that she is in heaven with our Lord in all of His splendor.

A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held at the Okotoks Evangelical Free Church, 28 Westland Rd, on Wednesday, February 9, 2000 at 1 pm. Pastor Rob Peterson of Hope Community Covenant Church officiating. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gideons of Canada, P.O. Box 3619, Guelph, Ont. N1H 7A2, or to Midpark Christian Assembly, 260 Midpark Blvd. S.E., Box 48001 Midlake Postal Outlet, Calgary, T2X 3C0 (will be designated to mom's favorite ministries). Arrangements in care of Snodgrass Funeral Home (Okotoks) Ltd. Telephone 938-3111.
