1924 - 2008

MRS. KATHLEEN MARIE AUDET (nee Boudreau) beloved wife of Mr. Clarence Audet of Milk River, passed away peacefully surrounded by love at the Milk River Hospital on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the age of 83 years.
Kay met her husband Clarence on Valentine’s Day in 1941 at the Last Sands Ranch and they were married for 66 wonderful years. Kay was born in Mutrie, Saskatchewan on June 27, 1924 but called Southern Alberta home. She worked side by side with Clarence farming, ranching and raising their children; Lorrie Howe, Roy (Chris) Audet, Diann (Moe) Bissonnette and Annette Audet-Johansen. Love cannot even describe how she felt about her grandchildren; Brie Bissonnette, Daniel, Adrian and Jesse Audet, Dana, Greg, Amber, Ashley, Sara and Beau Johansen.
Kay had many pastimes and hobbies, among them; snowmobiling, picnicking, golfing and cheering on the grandchildren at their many sporting events. She also took time to give back to the community through many volunteer positions including those with the church, hospital and Alberta Cancer Foundation. Kay loved sewing, knitting and crocheting and was known for the many afghans, quilts and preemie toques she made over the years. She was never happier than when family and friends would drop over for a meal, a game of cards or just a visit. Kay was a true friend and neighbour to all who met her and will be dearly missed.
A Funeral Mass will be held at ST. PETER’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 321 Main Street, Milk River, on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Joseph T. Kalathiparambil officiating.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Kathleen, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

PHILLIP (DUSTY) ABERDEEN JR. of the Blood Reserve, passed away at the Fort Macleod Extendicare, on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at the age of 59 years.
Dusty is survived by his children Marilyn (Corey) Good Striker of the Blood reserve, Beverly (Lester) Twigg of Calgary, Jody (Wes) White Quills of Calgary, Dana (Jessica) White Quills of Lethbridge, Dustin Meguinnis of Sarcee, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Dusty was predeceased by his parents Phillip and Daisy Aberdeen, his brothers Edman, Ivan, Lester, and Gabriel, by his sisters Virginia and Mary, by his nephew Mathew, great grandson Seth and by his common law wife Patricia White Quills. The family would like to thank the staff at the Fort Macleod Extendicare for the wonderful care Dusty received.
A Wake Service will be held at WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff, on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 6:00 P.M. TO 11:00 P.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at WHITE CALF CHAPEL, Standoff, on Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Pawel Andrasz officiating.
Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

MRS. HELEN ALEXANDER, beloved wife of the late Mr. William Alexander, passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at the age of 76 years.
Helen is survived by her son Bill (Marilyn) and their son Robb and daughter Heather (Chris) Wozniczko and their children Chandee, Josh and Brandon as well as great grandson Jayden. She is also survived by a loving family in Scotland.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family prior to the service at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge on Monday, January 21, 2008 from 9:30 A.M to 10:00 A.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Larry Hankinson officiating.


KATHLEEN ANN “BUNNY” ARMSTRONG nee Longbotham, passed away suddenly in Coaldale on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the age of 45 years.
She is survived by her husband Brett, children Michael and Emily of Coaldale, parents Ron and Ann Longbotham of Calgary, siblings Dawn Mysyk, Samantha (Thomas) Homer, Bob (Tara) Longbotham and Chris Longbotham all of Calgary as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kathleen was born and raised in Calgary and attended school at Hillhurst Elementary and Queen Elizabeth High School. She was a certified reflexologist, studied shiatsu and was a certified instructor of touch health and taught at LCC. She was currently working as a caregiver for Rehoboth. She loved to sing and play the piano, write poetry, do handicrafts and stitch work. She loved all creatures, especially her birds.
She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends.
Friends may meet with the family at the Church prior to the Funeral Service from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.
A Funeral Service will be held at the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, 2216 – 12 A Avenue, Coaldale on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Robert Shimbashi officiating.
Interment to follow at the Magrath Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 317-10th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 2M7 for Breast Cancer Research.

RITA ALBRECHT, beloved wife of Michael Albrecht of Milk River, passed away peacefully at the Milk River Hospital on Monday, August 6, 2007 at the age of 79 years.
Rita was born in Calgary, Alberta on June 11, 1928. She lived and was educated in Milk River, Pincher Creek and Medicine Hat. She worked and taught in Iron Springs and at the Hutterville Colony. She and Mike were married in 1948 and moved to Vancouver for 2 years; they were married for 53 years.
Rita was predeceased by her father Mr. Arvid Albrecht of San Luis Obispo, California.
She is survived by her four children; Dan Albrecht (Judy Devoe), Peggy Anne (Todd) Meeter, Marcus Albrecht and Carol (Arnie) Bergen Henegouwen, 3 grandchildren; Dalin Meeter, Kate Albrecht and Rebecca Albrecht as well as her brother Michael (Nancy) Bardell of Surrey, B.C.
In 1956, Rita and Mike pursued their dreams of becoming farmers and raising their children on a farm. They became involved in home, school and the Warner Memorial Church; Rita always loved children so what better chance to be involved then to work in the Church Sunday School.
In 2000, Rita and Mike moved to Milk River to retire. Rita loved the Lord and believed in being thankful.

1926 - 2009

BERNARD CARL BASTIAN, beloved husband of Rae, was called home peacefully to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and loving wife of 30 years, Rae; one sister, Bernice; one son, Donald; daughter-in-law Linda Malesza, two grandsons, Garrett and Ward Bastian; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Margaret; one brother Bertram; one sister Beatrice; two sons Ian and David and first wife Doreen.
Bernard was born on August 29, 1926 in Pincher Creek, AB. He grew up on the family farm near Pincher Creek. Bernard enjoyed farming, as well as his employment with Flint Engineering where he remained until his retirement in 1984.
He was a gentle man who loved his Lord, church, family and the outdoors. Bernard loved Rachel’s family as his own. To many, he was known as Bernard, to the special few he was affectionately known as ‘UNC’.
Bernard was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, First at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pincher Creek and then, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lethbridge. It was the church that taught him the values to become the kind, gentle, loving, generous man he was. His warmth and friendship will be deeply missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Richard Brown officiating. Interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 5 miles South of Pincher Creek on Waterton Highway #6 on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M..
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. W. Lethbridge, AB, T1K 8E1 or a charity of one’s choice.

1926 - 2009

MRS. FLORENCE “FLO” BATES, beloved wife of the late Mr. Stewart Bates, passed away at St. Michael’s Health Centre, Palliative Care, on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at the age of 82.
She is the loving Mother of three sons: Lyle (Colleen), Byran (Diane), Morley (Ruth); all of Lethbridge. Grandchildren; Christina (Mark), Don (Victoria), Shawn (Lisa), Kevin (Coreen), Kyle, Erin (Curtis), Penny (Jamie), Keith (Amber), Stephanie (Nathan), Blair (Michelle), Mandi, Mark (Krystal). Great-grandchildren; Huw, Kate, Zoe, Tiegan, Kase, Corbin, Benjamin, Cassandra, Treyvis, Branton, Jorden, Justin, Kali, Kenzie, Brooke, Kayla, Riley, Dawson, Caitlyn, Addisyn. She is also survived by Siblings: George (Jean), Gladys (Albert), Lyle (Shirley), Lila, Elgin. Brother-in-law: Bob (Helen). Predeceased by: Her parents: James and Norma Wiltshire, brothers- James, Bruce, and Kenneth.
Flo was born in 1926, in Cromer, Manitoba and moved to the Swan River Valley around 8 years of age. She married Stew in May of 1947 and they enjoyed 56 years together. They moved from Lynn Lake, Manitoba, to Lethbridge, in 1959 to raise their sons. Flo was very active in the community. She was a member of several organizations, particularly the Royal Canadian Legion; achieving the Meritorious Service Award in May of 2000 and was a lifetime member.
Grandma was always proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She always has a contagious smile and a caring heart. She will leave a void in the lives of all who loved her.
Relatives and Friends are invited to pay their respects prior to the service, at the Church, from 12:00-12:45PM.
The Funeral service will be held at the RIVER OF LIFE COMMUNITY CHURCH, 2820-18 Ave. N. Lethbridge, AB; on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:00PM with Pastor John Moerman Officiating .
A private family interment will take place.

1929 - 2009

LOIS BARTLETT, beloved wife of the late Dick Bartlett, of Lethbridge, passed away in Lethbridge on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the age of 80 years.
She is survived by her family, Bob (Sheryl) Bartlett of Lethbridge, AB, Sherry (Larry) Ohlmann of Harrison Hot Springs, BC, Ethel (Greg) Lewicki of Calgary, AB, and Bill Bartlett of Lethbridge, AB, six grandchildren; Rick (Maureen) Scott, Scott (Carla) Bartlett, Rob (Sonya) Ohlmann, Christy (Mark) Aday, Jessica (Dan) Barnes and Nicole Lewicki and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Harry (Margaret) Osecki, sisters in-law, Joan Osecki and Pat Bartlett and nieces Barbara Douglas and Wendy Teske.
She was predeceased by husband Dick Bartlett and brother Bill Osecki.
Lois was born to Abbie and Theo Osecki in 1929. She graduated from LCI in 1946, and then attended the Galt Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1949, becoming a Registered Nurse. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the U of A in 1963. She married Dick Bartlett in 1962. Together, they loved their family and enjoyed travel, watching hockey games and sharing in their children and grandchildren’s many activities.
Lois’s numerous accomplishments include: being the Associate Director of Nursing at the Lethbridge Municipal Hospital, teaching at the Galt School of Nursing, and serving as an elected member of the board of the Lethbridge Regional Hospital. Lois was also very involved with First United Church and its Daycare Centre. Lois will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held at FIRST UNITED CHURCH, 502 – 13th Street North, Lethbridge, AB, on Monday, April 6, 2009, at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Elizabeth Brown officiating.
In Memory of Lois, donations may be made to the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, 960-19 Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J 1W5.

1959 - 2009

DOUGLAS ROBERT BASSETT, beloved husband and best friend of Wanda Bassett, passed away suddenly in Calgary, AB, on Friday, March 27, 2009.
Doug was born on September 11, 1959 in Taber, AB. He grew up and attended school in Raymond, where he graduated from Raymond High School in 1977. Throughout his school years Doug excelled in sports, especially football and hockey.
Doug held various jobs throughout his life, most notability working for Frito-Lay for 10 years with his brother Rick and Stampede Park in Calgary for 9 years where he was Race Foreman of Operations. At the time of his passing, Doug had recently accepted a position in Lethbridge at Rocky Mountain Turf Club as a Supervisor for Race Operations and Capital Programs. Doug was excited and enthused about his new position and was anxious to start preparing for the Spring Race Meet.
Family and friends were very important to Doug and he was happy to have moved “back home” to be closer to them. Doug was especially thrilled when he recently learned he was going to be a grandpa!
One of Doug’s true passions, which he shared with his wife Wanda, was his love of horses and horseracing. Doug had owned and trained thoroughbred race horses on and off for over 30 years, many of those years with Wanda at his side. Doug loved being at races, whether it was running a horse, working at the track or just making a wager.
Making friends came easily to Doug, and he had many of them due to his sense of humour and easy-going nature. Doug met many people due to his association with racing and acquired numerous life long friendships.
Besides his loving wife Wanda, Doug leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Sara (Chris) Szentes of Lethbridge, AB, his mother, Shirley Bassett of Lethbridge, AB, his father Bob (Sharon) Bassett of Taber, AB, his siblings, Greg (Tracy) Bassett of Gibbons, Rick (Kerry and Mason) Bassett of Raymond, Rob (Shelly ) Bassett of Taber, AB, Tracey Bassett of Taber, AB Bonnie (Brad) Fallon of Taber, AB, Dennis Bassett of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and their families.
Doug was predeceased by his grandparents, Clarence Bassett, Jack and Mildred Roach, Albert and Mildred Erickson and cousin Gerry Ell.
Doug, you will be surely missed and always remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing you. See ya in the winner’s circle.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, April 3, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Ray Block and Reverend Audrey Erickson officiating.
Interment at Mountain View Cemetery.

1917 - 2009

A very long life on this earth has come to an end as the family of Violette Boyden sadly announce her passing on Monday, March 16, 2009.
She is survived by seven children, Keith(Ina) Lethbridge, Brian (Hughena) Halifax, Daryl (Terry) Sherwood Park, Myrna Horak Calgary, Gary (Eileen) Creston, BC, Neil (Kymn Goslin) Stratford, PEI, Nadine Chandler (Don) Lethbridge, son in law Pat Sherman (Theresa) Kamloops, BC. as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She leaves to mourn her sisters Loretta La Valley and Louise Anderson, her brother Edward and sisters- in- law, Margaret, Dorothy and Dena Smith.
Violette was predeceased by husband Peter, parents Herman and Stella, brothers Leon and Floyd, daughter Lorainne, son Alan and his wife Janine, son in law Carl Horak, granddaughter Susan, nieces Valerie and Deanna as well as many brother and sisters- in- law.
Eldest daughter of Stella and Herman Smith, Violette was born in Burdett, 1917. After completing high school in Coaldale, she went on to attend college in Pincher Creek. She and Peter were married in November 1939 and together they raised a family of nine children on a farm near Wilson Siding.
Violette’s career plan always was to be a wife and mother. For her and Peter, life wasn’t about money or big houses or trips to foreign lands; it was faith and family that remained top priorities throughout their lives. Both were happiest when surrounded by ‘their kids’, hosting corn roasts, playing bridge or cooking for large gatherings at the farm.
The family wishes to express profound gratitude for the care she received from all the staff at Extendicare.
Relatives and friends are invited to a vigil prayer service at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2405 12th Ave. South, Lethbridge on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. Francis Noronha officiating.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION CATHOLIC CHURCH on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. with celebrants Reverend Tim Boyle and Reverend Kelly Boyden.
A private family interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery.
United once again, may Peter and Violette now rest in God’s merciful love and gentle peace.
In lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society (317- 10th St. S. Lethbridge T1J-2M7 ) or Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (2221 Young St; Ste. 601, Toronto, Ont; M4S-2B4).
