Margaret Jane Jacobson
May 26, 1922 - January 17, 2011
Margaret Jane Jacobson, nee Cartwright, of Kamloops, BC passed away peacefully on January 17, 2011, at the age of 88. Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed.
Margaret was predeceased by her seven siblings, her Mother and Father, Jenness and Wesley Cartwright of Homes Crossing, AB, and also by her husband of 50 years Maurice Jacobson, of Roseburg, Oregon.
Margaret was born in Fort Assiniboine, AB, May 26, 1922. Margaret joined the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War. During that time she worked in the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC, and worked in the offices of Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson.
Margaret moved to Seattle, Washington in 1948 where she married, Maurice Jacobsen in 1949. Margaret and Maurice then moved to Everett, Washington and built their home where they lived for many happy years.
Margaret’s worked at Boeing for 37 years, during that time the Boeing 747s and 737s were being built.
Margaret and Maurice retired to Roseburg, Oregon, when they were 69, and enjoyed their hobby farm until 1999, when Maurice passed away. Margaret re-joined her family in Canada where she spent the remainder of her days.
A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Saturday January 22, 2011 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, 285 Fortune Drive, with Chaplain Mary Widmer officiating.

Andrew Carey Lapa
November 1, 1959 - January 9, 2011
Andrew Carey Lapa of Pitt Meadows passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at 51 years of age.
He is survived by his loving mother Erna, brother Kenton Blair Lapa, aunt Alona (Albert) Burger of Faust, Alberta, special cousins Vaughn (Suzanne) Richardson of Ladysmith, Claire (Tom) Richardson of Nipigon, ON, and Cindee Richardson of Thunder Bay, ON, nieces Kirsten Burger and Natasha Burger both of Faust, AB, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Thunder Bay, Ontario and Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his brother Kevin William Lapa in 1985 and by his father Andrew Lapa in 2008.
Carey was born on November 1, 1959 in Fort William, Ontario and grew up in Kamloops B.C., attending school in Westsyde. He graduated from Westsyde Secondary 1977. He attended the University of Alberta, then University of British Columbia and received Bachelor Degrees in Arts 1986, and Recreation Education 1988. At UBC he became a member of the B.C. Thunderbirds Football team. In 1983, he was drafted by the Hamilton Tiger Cats. In 1988 he received his Professional Certificate from the College of Teachers and teaching became his true vocation. The Vanier Cup received national recognition in 1982 and the team was inducted into the UBC Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
He completed his Masters in Arts Education at San Diego State University 1993. He taught high school briefly in Kamloops and returned to Vancouver to teach at Centennial High School for several years. He settled at Terry Fox Secondary in Port Coquitlam where he remained for 16 years. He taught Physical Education and was the Offence and Defensive Line coach for the Senior Ravens Football team for many years. Last year he headed the Jr. Ravens football team as Head Coach.
His love was family, friends, football, and hockey. He loved teaching kids and tried to instill positive values and commitment. He wanted them to develop passion for the game as well as skills. He wanted to motivate them to greatness. The team he loved so much was the Green Bay Packers and Toronto Maple Leafs. It was their game Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia that he was rushing home to see.
Carey was past president of B.C. Secondary School Football Association (BCSSFA). He was attending their annual General meeting the day before his death. He was well connected with other school and sports in the community. He was active in his local teachers union. He loved fantasy football and fantasy baseball. He loved the camaraderie spent with his friends. He loved Shuswap Lake and spent holidays and summers there. The cottage become top priority for him to learn” How to Do“ maintenance skills.
The family would like to express appreciation to all of Carey’s friends who have been so supportive, with a special thanks to Gerald Shong, Paul McNaughton and Mac Gordon, fellow teachers and friends of Carey’s in Vancouver.
The Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in the Kamloops United Church, 421 St. Paul St., with Reverend Teri Meyer and Chaplain Mary Widmer officiating.
A Bursary/Award is being established at Terry Fox Secondary School in Carey’s honor. Any donations are gratefully accepted by contacting the school at 604 941 5401. Memorial donations may also be made to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, 1589 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 5V7.

Alfreda Mae (nee Davis) Murphy
May 14, 1924 - January 22, 2011
Alfreda Mae Murphy was granted her Angel wings on Saturday, January 22, 2011.
Her final days were spent surrounded by her beloved family. Alfreda is survived by her loving husband Ellsworth, son Michael, daughters Pam (Lino) Endrizzi and Angela (John) Guile, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Alfreda was born on May 14, 1924 in Yakima Washington, daughter to Mary and Charles Davis. She met the love of her life, Ellsworth Murphy, at Church when she was a young girl of sixteen. One year and one day later on March 23, 1941 they were happily married. In 1963 Alfreda and Ellsworth opened Murphy’s Sun Valley Ranch in Revelstoke where they forged many wonderful, long lasting friendships.
A Funeral service will be held to celebrate Alfreda’s life at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2165 Parkcrest Avenue in Kamloops, on Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow. Following the reception, Alfreda will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorial donations in Alfreda’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC, 300 - 828 West 8th Ave. Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1E2 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 111-450 Lansdowne St., Kamloops BC V2C 1Y3. Flowers are also welcome, with silk or artificial being preferred, like Alfreda loved.

Brenda Irene Rose
May 23, 1948 - January 22, 2011
Brenda Irene Rose of Kamloops, BC passed away peacefully on January 22 with her daughters by her side.
Brenda will be fondly remembered by her children Jonathan (Josee) of Moncton, NB, Reana of Calgary, AB, Terri (Dale) of Kamloops, BC, and especially by her grandson Daylen. As well as by her brothers and sisters; Steven (Lois) Budd, Ellen (Garnet) Price, Elizabeth (Murray) Dawson and Phillip (Violet) Budd.
She was predeceased by her mother and father, Irene and Cleveland Budd, her sisters Cathy Quinlan, Iona Beers, Shirley Pitre and Christine Crossman as well as her baby brother Robert Budd.
Born in Moncton, NB, on May 23, 1948, Brenda was a jack of all trades, always giving her all to whatever task was at hand. Her dream of being a truck driver came true in 1986. Her CB handle was Gypsy and she was always a free spirit that loved being "on the road". For the past five years she made Kamloops her home where she was the "Bestest Nanny in the World" to her grandson Daylen. He will miss her terribly but will remember her love and guidance. In his words "I love you more Nanny; stick it, lock it, no erasies!"
Brenda, known as Auntie B by her nieces, nephews and many others was well loved. She will be remembered by her family and many friends as a strong, independent, loving woman who opened her heart and her home to any who needed her. She will be sadly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Howie, Dr. Gabriel, as well as to the loving staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops.

Shirley Anne Harrison

Shirley Anne Harrison passed away on January 25, 2011 at the age of 64 from lung cancer. She is lovingly remembered by her cherished children, daughter Kelly (Linc) Maxfield and son Kirt (Jen) Harrison, four precious grandchildren, Alyssa, Emily, Ryley & Adam, her beloved life-partner, Gord Greer, Gord’s family, Dan (Pam), JoAnne (Russ), Rod, and Gord’s grandchildren, brothers Carl Seabrook and Len (Betty) Seabrook, close friends & brother-in-law Bob (Barb) Harrison, aunts Sadie Reid, Eliza Bell and Ginny Seabrook, nieces, nephews, many dear friends and other extended family; Eileen Harrison (Floyd Tompkins), Susan (Doug) Inkster & Roberta (Will) Hartman, Al (Jean) Harrison.
I have “quietly gone upstairs” to join my husband Ken Harrison (2000), mother Anne (1995), father Alan (1985), brothers Ervin (1977) and Glen (2009), nephew Marty (1968).
I was born on October 1, 1946 in the tiny town of Blind River, Ontario, near Sault Ste. Marie. The youngest child and only girl in a family of four boys, I was raised in the Soo and Searchmount, ONT, until moving to Quesnel, BC in February of 1956 at the age of 9. I attended school at Red Bluff Elementary and Quesnel Jr. Sr. Secondary, later pursuing my trade of bookkeeping in Prince George in 1964. I married Ken, a born and raised Kamloops man (Duck Range), on July 25, 1964 and together we followed Ken’s electrical career, living in Williams Lake, Mica Creek, Monte Creek, Vernon, where both Kelly and Kirt were born, and finally settling on Rachel Place in Kamloops in 1971. I worked in banking, insurance, jewellery and as a girl-friday, plus “kept the books” for Ken for 16 years when he owned and operated Pastime Pools and Construction. My life was full, with ‘family and home’ being the most important aspects. I especially loved watching my four grandchildren at home and at play, treasuring every moment
I was able to share with each of them, and making memories along the way. I moved to Holt Street in 2004 and continued to enjoy the things I loved most, golfing and curling. On March 24, 2008, Gord finally discovered me and we instantly joined our hearts, cherishing every moment together. We loved doing all the same things, especially sharing our thoughts over a cup of StarBucks coffee and camping in our new trailer. I have many friends at the McArthur Park Curling Rink, Pineridge Golf Course and was a very proud, active member of the Kiwanis Club of Kamloops.
With my gift of imagination, I was adept at concocting almost anything when my creative juices flowed. I often amazed people, and myself, with my many talents and they came to expect that something weird or wonderful would appear out of nowhere. I dearly loved tending my flower gardens and puttering about at home, but was definitely no stranger to hard work. I loved to laugh and was a strong believer in the power of verse, writing an array of poems that reflected my own thoughts about life, people and things. I believed in the profound messages of verse which I visibly displayed about my home. “all the flowers of tomorrow are in the seeds of today”, “today, outside my window, a new day I see” and “home is where your heart is” being my favourites. A true Libra at heart, I hope to be remembered for my spirited personality, my many genuine acts of kindness and my ‘testiness’ when standing up for my beliefs. I always tried to “smile and make a new day in the face of adversity.”
Thank you to Dr. David Ritenburg, all the amazing nurses on 3 west at RIH, Dr. Montgomery, Dr. Rollheiser and Dr. Avanessian for the excellent care over the past months.
A Celebration of Shirley’s life will take place on Saturday, February 5th at 1:00 pm at Westsyde Fellowship Church, 2833 Westsyde Road, with friend and Pastor, Jeff Torrans officiating. Tea to follow. Interment at Duck Range Road Cemetery on the Harrison Ranch at a later date.

Mary Jean Zorn (Wilkinson)

On January 24, 2011 Mary Jean Zorn (Wilkinson), much loved and cherished Mom, Grandma, and Great Grama was called home to her Lord and Saviour after a brief illness.
Mary is deeply loved and missed by her daughter Deb Harbidge of Kamloops BC, grandson Terry Harbidge of Kelowna BC, granddaughters Tracy (Doug) Hetman-McDonald of Edmonton, Patti-Jean (Brian) Milner of Kingston ON, Denise (Mark) Hetman-Hermason of Kamloops, Cheryl Meeley of Kamloops, and Kari (Kevin Schartner of Morrin AB. Mary is also survived by her great grandchildren Caileigh & Chayton Hetman-McDonald of Edmonton AB, Shawna, Courtney & Dayna Milner of Kingston ON, Joel Ryder of Logan Lake, Hayden Meeley of Kamloops, Christopher Hermanson of Kamloops, and Jacqueline Hermanson of Victoria, and very special friends Roma (Ted) Norrington, Dorothy Comerford, Darryl Harbidge and Ian Hetman, and many more close friends, nieces and nephews too numerous to mention, but not forgotten.
Mary was predeceased by her parents John and Ethel Ellis, her brothers and sisters, Dorothy, Velma, Don, Tom, Jack, Harvey, Harold and Bob; her husband of 58 years Angus Wilkinson, her daughter and son in-law Diane and George Baxter, and by her second husband of 8 years Oscar Zorn.
Mary was born on August 3, 1918 in Davidson, Saskatchewan. Mary and Angus moved here from Calgary in 1962 and purchased and operated a motel until retirement. They enjoyed many years of fishing, camping and travelling. In the summer of 1997, Mary started a new life, marrying Oscar Zorn, a loving husband, step dad, and step grandpa. With Oscar’s help and guidance, at the age of 80 years young, Mary learned to golf. They enjoyed their Golden Years together golfing, travelling around Canada, and enjoying time spent with family and great friends. Mary was a giving, compassionate and tireless volunteer up till her illness; such as Fish (People Helping People), Crisis Line, Good Morning Program, Family Life, Mayor’s Task Force for Senior’s Housing, Lacey Senior Centre, Brocklehurst Senior’s Branch, Senior Games and Mary was a founding member with over 30 years of volunteer work with Overlander Care Hospital.. At 91 years old this special lady was still very active in supporting her church and various charities and organizations. Last year Mary and 11 other ladies from Kamloops and area had a book published in their honour called, “Not Just A Tea Party,” chronicling all their volunteer work/contributions to Kamloops over the last 48+ years. Mary was an active meber of Kamloops Alliance Church.

Robert "Bob" Walter Magee
March 26, 1933 - January 24, 2011
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our friend “Bob.”
Robert Walter Magee of Kamloops passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 77 years of age.
Bob was born on March 26, 1933 in Vancouver. He was raised there until he was 13 years old, at which time the family moved to Royston. Bob chose to work in Union Construction and was a 45 year member of the Construction and General Labourers Local Union 602, which later became 1611. He was proud of the many projects he worked on across BC, some notable projects being the Mica Dam, parkades, Whistler Mountain, the overpasses on the Yellowhead and Coquihalla Highways, and the bears on the Port Mann Bridge! He was also a business agent for 10 years. Those who knew Bob would attest that he was a true blue, dedicated “Union Man.”
Bob surely left his mark on the world and will be sadly missed by many, especially his two furry friends, Mickey and Minnie.
Rest well our Dear Friend, you are now free of the ravages of your illness.
Bob is survived by his brothers Norman (Gloria) and Alan, sisters Marilyn (Jack) Monk Lynda (Bob) Fitzgerald, and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
His memory will also be cherished by his extended family, Trudy his companion of 18 years, her children Bill (Sherri), Shelly (Ron), Pamela (Shayne) and Char, as well as in-laws and many friends. He was Papa to seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Lena Magee.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Michaud and Marilyn at the Kidney Clinic for all your help. Also thanks to Dr. Sigalet and the wonderful staff of 6 North at Royal Inland Hospital for your exceptional care and understanding.
