Fouchier, Eugene Thursday, 29 Jan 2004
Aug. 1, 1931 - Jan. 29, 2004
Eugene passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his side. It is with bittersweet sadness that we bid farewell to a husband, a father, a grandfather and a great-grandfather. Bitter for the tremendous loss, but sweet, for his suffering has ended. A suffering that he bore with quiet grace, dignity and strength. Gene was born in Connaught, Ont., where in his early years, he logged in bush camps. He also did road construction and worked in the gold mines and, at Elliot Lake in the uranium mine. In 1969, the family moved to Vancouver where he welded and repaired heavy duty equipment. In 1975, the family arrived in the Cariboo and Gene went to work at Komori’s Mill at 70 Mile House and then at McMillan’s mill in Lone Butte, which was purchased by Ainsworth mill and eventually closed. One of Gene’s passions was hunting. He was an excellent marksman. While his health prevailed, you would run across him way out in the woods on his ATV. He was a man of few words, but possessed a wry sense of humour and wit. Compassionate, caring and honest, he appreciated all life had to offer. His presence will always be missed. Gene was predeceased by his daughter Ann. Left to mourn; his loving wife, Ethel; children Helen (Jim), Ted (Judie), Debra (Dan), Steven (Bonnie), Brenda (Brad), Martin, Fessica, 17 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren as well as other family members and friends. A celebration of life will be held on Feb. 21, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Watch Lake Community Hall. Coffee, tea and snacks will be served. In lieu of flowers, a food snack would be appreciated.
