Muriel Barbara Syrett
June 19, 1916 – June 22, 2008

Muriel passed away peacefully to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, June 22, 2008 at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home.

Muriel was predeceased by her daughter Sharon on January 4, 1972.

Muriel bravely fought many months of pain and illness, first in her home with nursing care, and then to RIH, and on June 18th moved to the Hospice Home.

Muriel is survived by her husband Norman of almost 55 years; her daughter Heather (Michael) Batchelor and her granddaughters, Tanya (Rob) Bijl, Chelsey Batchelor (Kellen White), and Jenny Batchelor (Rob Gauthier). Muriel also leaves behind 5 great grandchildren, Austin, Rachel, Nolan, Ryan and Emily.

Muriel was born in Summerside PEI on June 19, 1916. Muriel met Norman in Toronto and they were later married on June 27, 1953. They came to BC and resided in Kamloops in 1966. Muriel joined the Happy Choristers Choir and for many years played her violin in accompaniment. She enjoyed bowling and was also part of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra in the 70’s. Muriel enjoyed biking, traveling and loved people.

Special thanks to those who helped Mom through her last weeks; Dr. Krueger, the staff at Bedford Manor, the nurses on 3 South, and the angels at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice – Breanna, Kelly, and Brenda.

The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2008 in the First Baptist Church, 454 Columbia St., with Pastor Warren Trenholm officiating.

Donations in Muriel’s memory may be made to the Gideon Bible Society, PO Box 445, Kamloops BC V2C 5L2. Flowers gratefully declined.

Stella Allin
March 28, 1914 - January 20, 2013

Stella Allin of Kamloops, BC, passed away on Sunday, January, 20, 2013 at 98 years of age. Stella is survived by her three daughters, Rita Jones, Marion (Vic) Bradford, and Elaine (Bill) Wilson, all of Kamloops, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Stella is predeceased by her husband, John Allin (1991), daughter Joyce Allin (1985), son Everett Allin (1995), and brother Everett Keating (1996).

Stella was born in Silver Creek, Manitoba on March 28, 1914. Stella and John farmed in Grandview, Manitoba and later moved to Knutsford, BC where they owned and operated the Knutsford store for many years before retiring in Kamloops BC.

We would like to express our gratitude to the doctor and the wonderful staff at the Pine Grove Care Centre. Their kindness and generosity is was exceptional.

The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 25, 2013 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Maione officiating. Following the service, Stella will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.

Donations in Stella’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

MEARLE BEATRICE MCDONNELL
Nov. 20, 1923 - Jan. 17, 2013

Matriarch, Sister, always open to help out without being asked. She passed away with dignity and respect, surrounded with loving family at her side. Survived by one sister, Lorette of Edmonton, Alberta, daughters Patricia (Philip) Meredith of Victoria, BC, and Linda (Steve) Hand of Brighton, Ont., sons Jerry (Nancy) of Cloverdale, BC, and David (Joanne) of Kamloops, BC, daughters Elizabeth (Jay) Burgomaster of Alexandria, Virginia, Barbara (Jay Pelletier) McDonnell of Kamloops, BC, and Tracy (Tony) Finnerty of Roscommon, Ireland. Grandchildren, Kristi (Kris), Kelli (Steve), Ryan, Alicia (Steve), Mark, Jordan (Rayne), Robbie (Ginger), Brodie (Katie), Jenessa, Paige, Ben and Adam. Great-grandchildren Tessa, Samantha, Kassandra, Ava, Caden, Nissa, Bailey, Lane and Jaxson. Mearle was predeceased by her mother, father, 7 siblings, the children’s father Patrick and step daughter, Carrie.

Mom was very devoted to the Catholic Faith, she opened and closed OLPH Church for 18 years, and was also known around the community as the “Hat Lady.” Always there for her kids growing up (all 7 of us). After moves to many communities in BC and Alberta, there was a stop in Kamloops in 1967 then off to Victoria in 1973. She started her working career again at the Royal Scot Hotel for years. Moved back to Kamloops to be close to her brood whom, in turn, all flew the coop as they got married. Mom volunteered at numerous care facilities and ended up at Ponderosa to run the Glad-Bag program.

The Family who like to extend a grateful Thank You to the management and staff of Ridgeview, Ponderosa, and RIH for the care and compassion that our mother received in the last years of her life.

Prayers will be recited on Monday, January 21st, 2013 at 7:00 pm in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, January 22nd, 2013 at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Celebrant, Reverend Father Peter Hoan Nguyen.

Donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C. in Mearle’s memory would be greatly appreciated. Flowers gratefully declined.

Mabel Montgomery
February 16, 1928 - January 16, 2013

Mabel (May) Montgomery of Kamloops, passed away on January 16, 2013 at 84 years. She is survived by her loving Children, Gerald (Louise) Montgomery of Port Coquitlam, BC, Marnie (Vic) O’Brien of Victoria, BC, Cheryl (Hugh) Booth of Kamloops, BC, Evelyn (John) Danielson of Kamloops, BC, Cindy (Paul) Craycraft of West Palm Beach, Florida, Kelly (Rick) McEwen of Kamloops, BC, and Grandchildren, Larry, Aaron, Katherine, Shannon, Colleen, Rhonda, Ken, Tim, Christian and numerous Great Grandchildren.

May was predeceased by her Husband Gilbert, Parents Bertha and Albert, Son Bruce, Sister Muriel, Brothers Bert, Al and Clarence.

May was born February 16, 1928 in Jesmond, BC. She met her husband Gilbert in Clinton and they were together until Gilbert’s passing in 1978. They lived in several small towns in BC working for the railroad and finally settled permanently in Kamloops in October 1961. May worked at the Credit Bureau until she retired. For May her family was her life’s work and her joy, she instilled in her children the importance and value of family. With all the medical and personal adversities that she endured for so many years, she was unwavering in her strength and coped with grace and dignity. May was so loved, respected and admired by her family, and they know that she is again at peace and dancing with Gilbert.

A Celebration of May’s life will be held on Tuesday, January the 22nd at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.

Maurice Gus (Agustive) Malcolm
November 29th, 1917 – January 14th, 2013

It is with great sadness the Malcolm family announce the passing of Maurice Gus Malcolm on Monday January 14th, 2013 at the age of 95. Maurice is predeceased by his loving wife Veleda Malcolm (nee McKinney) his father and mother, 4 brothers, 3 sisters and many in-laws.

Dad, Pop, Gus, Maurice were many of the names he was known by. Dad is survived by his 3 children Kitt Giorio; Moe (Mic) Malcolm; Perry (Colleen) Malcolm; 7 grandsons; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great grandson. He is also survived by his In-laws Bob & Peg Johnson, Ike & Rita McKinney, Helen Brooks, Evelyn Reader, Max Davis

Born to Harry Taylor Malcolm & Caroline Thompson, dad was raised in Fort McMurray, Alberta. He worked his way west through the Alberta Coal branch. In 1958, dad joined the Operating Engineers Union- local 115 where he was a member for 55 years. He worked on many jobs throughout BC, such as the Trans Canada highway through the Rogers Pass and Mica Dam. He worked for Hulburd Crane which later became Sterling Crane, and then started his own company with Ken Highland called-M&K Demolition. Dad did numerous jobs throughout the Kamloops area and BC, some of which were for the City of Kamloops and Ducks Unlimited. Dad worked well into his 80’s before he finally retired for the last time.

Dad looked forward to good game of cards with his friends and family, and his favourite being Low Ball poker. He enjoyed many days of fishing, hunting and spending quality time with his family. He loved every moment he could have with his grandsons and great grandchildren. He loved to teach them how to throw rocks into the slough.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at the Hamlets in Westsyde, where dad resided for the past 3 years, for their kindness and love that was extended not only to our father, but to us-his family.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive. With Reverend LeAnn Blackert officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maurice’s name to the Alzheimer Society.

Mary Irene Hardaker
November 8, 1915 - January 9, 2013

Mary Irene Hardaker of Kamloops passed away peacefully on January 9th, 2013 at 97 years of age. Mary was born on the family homestead, Stony Plain, Alberta, November 8, 1915. She settled in North Kamloops with her parents Edward and Christina Willie some 90 years ago.

Mary is survived by her family - Ted and Lee, Trent and Jill, Graeme and Veki and her sister Ruth Norberg. Memories of Auntie Mary will long be held in the hearts of her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Milner, her sisters Alice and Esther and her brothers George and Jack.

Mary was a born organizer, which led her down many paths. As a young woman, she was employed by the Hudson’s Bay Company and was extremely proud of her achievement in becoming the Manageress of the grocery department. Her business experience continued when she joined her husband Milner in opening one of the first businesses in North Kamloops, Mil’s Men’s Wear, in 1948. She served her community for many years through Kinettes, K-39 and Rotary and supported Milner through his years as Alderman. Mary was a member of the Kamloops Golf Club, the Kamloops Fish and Game Association, the Kamloops Curling Club and also served as Charter President of the North Kamloops Curling Club. Fishing, camping, gardening, friends and family were special to her.

The Pinegrove Care Centre was mom’s chosen home for the past few years. She was reunited with many friends and was graced with making many new ones as she became part of another family. The thoughtful and compassionate care she received at Pinegrove and from Dr. Schumacher and Dr. Wiedrick is appreciated.

A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 17, 2013 in the Kamloops Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to a charity of your choice.

Peter Claude Levesque
June 20th, 1932 – January 11th, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter Claude Levesque of Kamloops, B.C. on January 11th, 2013 at the age of 80.

Peter is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mabel and his three daughters Teresa Zivkusic, Diane (Darrel) Antoniuk, and Gail (Al) Thachuk. Peter is also survived by his grandchildren David (Robin), Michelle, Danielle (Kyle), Chris, Nicole (Jeff), and Matia and great grand-daughters Kendra and Maiya, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Peter is predeceased by his parents Joseph (1969) and Margaret (1986) and his brother Guy (2005), as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, nephews, and friends.

Peter was born on June 20th 1932 in Montreal, Quebec. As a young boy Peter enjoyed spending time with his brother Guy and rooting for the Montreal Canadians. When Peter was seventeen he joined the Canadian Army and was shipped overseas to fight in the Korean War. Upon returning home from war Peter meet his wife Mabel. They later married in 1955 and had three daughters together. In 1971 they moved out west, where they made Kamloops their home for the past 42 years. Peter enjoyed his work as an engineer for CN Rail for over 38 years, retiring in 1993.

Peter had many memorable pastimes besides spending time with his loving family and friends. Peter loved traveling with his wife (Hawaii was his favorite destination), being a member of the Kamloops Veterans Society, watching hockey (a Blazers seasons ticketholder for many years) walks around Mac Arthur Park, and giving belly rubs to our beloved dog Bailey.

We would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the ICU and 6 South Nursing Staff for the loving care you provided to Peter. Dr. Philip Sigalet, Dr. Peter Gorman, and Dr. Susan Vlahos thank you for your kindness and compassion given to Peter in his final days. To family and friends, thank you for your love and support.

Prayers will be recited on Monday January 14th, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Reverend Father Peter Nguyen will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of Tuesday, January 15th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Cancer Society or the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
