Death Notice (12/18/2000)
GOBLE - (Ben) Benson Edward, born October 7, 1944, Penticton B.C., died suddenly on December 14, 2000, in Surrey B.C. at the age of 56. Ben is survived by his beloved wife Pat, his much loved son Robert, his cherished daughter Michelle, his son-in-law Oscar, his brother Frank, many cousins, other relatives, friends, colleagues, and all those who call him Uncle Ben. A retailer for 32 years, Ben started his career with the Hudson's Bay Company right out of high school. He quickly worked his way to Store Manager before joining Fields Stores in the early 70's where he held several senior positions, until the end of his service as a Senior Executive for the Hudson's Bay Corporation. Ben has been active in several independent business and consulting projects since, most recently with Surrey Wire Rope. A renewed interest in bee keeping that started with two hobby hives quickly blossomed into a 100 hive pollination and honey business, B.E.G. Apiaries, and a new name: Ben, the Bee Man. Ben served as Chairman of the Surrey chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and was a member of the Langley Bee Club and the Surrey Beekeepers Association. He was an artist, and a passionate lover of nature and animals, and a protector. He was also very pleased to recently discover that he was descendent of United Empire Loyalists on his mother's side, and that he was an 11th generation North American on his father's side. Very excited about the recent marriage of his daughter, Ben was looking forward to going to Mexico in the Spring and exploring the world and culture of his new extended family. Ben was devoted to his wife and kids, and he loved his family and friends with every ounce of his being. His generosity, loyalty, kindness, goodness, and spirit were absolutely compelling. His passing is an enormous loss and he will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. We encourage all who knew and loved Ben to attend his Funeral Service on Tuesday December 19th at Valley View Funeral Home, 14660 72nd Avenue, Surrey, BC, at 2:00 pm. There will be a viewing in the hours before the service, as well as a viewing on Monday the 18th between 7-9 pm. In Ben's honour, donations can be made to the MS Society, 16th floor, 1130 West Pender Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6E 4A4. Ben-you will never be forgotten.
