PECK, Grace Megan - Saturday, 11 Dec 2004
Grace Megan Peck, late of Chilliwack and Vancouver, B.C. passed away in hospital on December 11, 2004 in her 84th year. She was born in Minnedosa, Mn.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Vince) of Sardis; 4 grandchildren, Jordan, Timothy, Devon and Nolan; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thornton, 1999 and sister Winnie in 1996.
A private family service to be held at a later date. Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack.
Should family and friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army or Canadian Kidney Foundation.

PEARMAN, Louise Clara - Friday, 10 Dec 2004
Louise Clara Pearman late of Chilliwack B.C. passed away after a lengthy illness on December 10, 2004 at the age of 59 years. She was born December 23, 1944 in Calgary, Alberta.
A Service of Remembrance was held in the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home on Thursday, December 16, 2004. Officiant, Larry Isaac. Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack.
She is survived by her brother, John of Calgary; and a sister, Joyce of California;

ZANDBERG, Durk (Dick) - Friday, 18 Feb 2005
Durk (Dick) Zandberg passed away peacefully on February 18, 2005 at the age of 74 after a brief but courageous struggle with lung cancer.
Dick is lovingly remembered by his wife of 22 years, Marie, and his six step-children Dick (Peggy) Wynia, John (Carol) Wynia, Ann (Darryl) Wallis, Theresa (John) Staber, Marlene (Chuck) Rudeloff and Bettyanne (Mark) Cheng; 13 step-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, four sisters and six brothers.
Dick was predeceased by this only child, Linda, and one step-grandson.
Dick was born January 22, 1931 in Bakeveen, Friesland. He came to Canada in 1980 to join his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. He then met Marie and they married in 1982. Together, Dick and Marie enjoyed many trips to Sky Valley in Desert Hot Springs, California, to Holland, Hawaii, Alaska and throughout B.C. and Alberta. Dick really loved nature, walks along the river, and regular visits to Minter Gardens. He enjoyed carpet bowling and was also an avid International checker player, winning many trophies and medals in both sports, including 2001 Canadian Checker Champion. Music was another one of Dick's passions and he was a trained, accomplished organist. Dick was a very wise, kind and caring husband, step-father, Pake, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by us all.
A Celebration of Dick's Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on February 24 at the Friendship Centre, 7272 Morrow Road, Agassiz.
Donations in Dick's memory to the BC Lung Association or a charity of your choice will be gratefully appreciated.
SLOOTWEG, Levina - Friday, 18 Feb 2005
Levina Slootweg, peacefully passed away into the presence of her Lord on February 18, 2005 at the Menno Hospital, Abbotsford BC. She was born on January 4, 1915 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
She was predeceased by her husband Cornelis and her daughter Ineke Verweg.
Levina will be sadly missed by her loving family: Geri (John) Hoogendoorn, Jake (Iris), Marty, Levina ( Fred) Tolsma, Cora Tempel, Fred (Jane); 27 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren. Levina will also be missed by her two sisters and extended family in Canada and Holland.
Viewing will be prior to the service which will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, 1 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home, 34537 Marshall Road (at Sumas) Abbotsford, BC, followed by the burial at Hazelwood Cemetery.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Menno Hospital for their loving support shown to Levina.
McKAY, Doris Catherine - Wednesday, 16 Feb 2005
Doris Catherine McKay passed away in the Chilliwack General Hospital on February 16, 2005 at the age of 82. She was born in Rosedale, B.C. on April 2, 1922.
Doris is survived by her children, daughter Lynne (Wayne) Larsen of Chilliwack, son Allan (Leona) McKay of Williams Lake, daughter-in-law Joan McKay of Chemainus, seven grandchildren, Allan, Vince, Todd, Al-Lisa, Tim, Stan and Greg, four great-grandchildren, Tia, Dayton, Cole and Alexis. She is also survived by her brother Bruce (Phyllis) Munro of Chilliwack, Ken (Lillian) Munro of Cache Creek, Lyle (Pat) Munro of Kamloops, sisters Ruth Karr of Vernon and Joan (Ed) Timms of Clinton as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 2004, one sister, Flora Munro in 1931 and one son, Ian in 1994.
Doris was an avid flower, bird and animal lover.
Service of Remembrance will be held on February 26, 2005 at 2 pm in the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack with Major Angus Haggarty officiating.

HILL, Charlotte Matilda - Tuesday, 15 Feb 2005
Charlotte Hill passed away in Chilliwack on February 15, 2005 at the age of 83 years. She was born in Bruderheim, Alta. on April 21, 1921.
Charlotte is survived by her son Brad (Nora) Hill of Abbotsford, Grandson Tyler, niece Alice Stein of Chilliwack, Brother Ren Frederking of Grass Valley, California and sisters; Elennor Schlosser of Calgary, Dorothy Wedder of Victoria and many nieces and nephews.
Charlotte was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She appreciated the support this group of women gave her through difficult times over the years. She looked forward to her yearly visit to her brother, Ren, in Desert Hot Springs, Calif. She also owned a trailer at Black Mountain Ranch in Washington and enjoyed being surrounded by beautiful trees that brought her peace.

HANCOCK, Victor George - Saturday, 19 Feb 2005
Surrounded by his family, Vic Hancock passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005, at the age of 73. Born in Selkirk, Man., June 14, 1931, he was a resident of Chilliwack since 1973.
Vic was an active member of the Lions Club since 1979 and was instrumental in bringing the flea market to Chilliwack. He volunteered with the Volunteers for Sight, the Roy Campbell Lodge Senior Housing Society, and the Chilliwack Community Living Society. Additionally, he and wife Iva were founding members of the B.C. Spina Bifida Association.
Vic was proud to serve with the Canadian armed Forces for 25 years, including time in Cyprus as a U.N. Peacekeeper. He was a member of Branch 4 Royal Canadian Legion, and Branch 24 Chilliwack Senior Veteran’s Society.
Vic is survived by his wife of 45 years, Iva; his son Doug Adair (Diane) of Pitt Meadows; daughters, Dawn Hancock of Calgary, Alta., Lynne Pearson (Matt) of Kirkland, WA., Kim Britton (Mike) of Chilliwack, and Erin Hancock of Sardis. Vic was the proud grandfather of Lisa and Danielle Adair, Joel, Laura and Katie Burke, Will and Joy Pearson, and Joshua, Mackenzie, and Lucas Britton. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Hunter. He is lovingly remembered by sisters, Mildred Clemons of Selkirk, Man., Gwen Goodman of Selkirk, Man., Doris Haller of Surrey, and Gale Mayo (Bruce), also of Surrey.
Vic was predeceased by his father Harry, mother Stella; sisters, Geri Passmore and Norma Reid, and Alice Olsen.
Vic was a dedicated volunteer, a staunch and loyal friend, a loving husband, and a beloved father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Chilliwack United Church on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2005 at 1:30 p.m.

COTON, George - Saturday, 19 Feb 2005
George Coton, a long time resident of Cultus Lake, passed away in the morning hours of February 19, 2005. George was born in Birmingham, England, August 30th, 1920.
He joined the Royal Navy at the age of 18 to see the world, but saw consistent action during World War II, serving on destroyers. During the War, on a five day leave, George married the love of his life, Doreen in August of 1943. As a Stoker Petty Officer, George was about to be promoted to a Chief Petty Officer ranking in 1948, when he discovered that Doreen was pregnant. With 24 pounds sterling borrowed from his father-in-law, George bought himself out of the Royal Navy and entered civilian life. Baby George was born in May of 1948.
George joined the Central Electricity Generating Board as a boiler operator at Nechells Power Station, Birmingham, in May of 1948. Over the next 27 years, George became a boiler and turbine room foreman, and eventually an engineer at the power station. George took an early retirement option in 1975. In the fall of 1979 George and Doreen emigrated to Canada, to join their son George who had emigrated six years earlier, and to live amongst friends they had made while vacationing at Cultus Lake.
While living at Cultus Lake, George and Doreen gained a daughter-in-law Janice and two grandchildren George Jr., and Audra.
George, as the oldest sibling of six, is survived by his sister Iris, his two brothers Philip and Gerald, his wife Doreen, his son George, spouse Janice and grandchildren George Jnr. and Audra.
An open house Celebration of George’s Life is to be hosted by Doreen and family at George and Doreen’s home on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2005, from 1-4:00 p.m.
TAYLOR, Jacqueline Dierdre - Monday, 14 Feb 2005
Jacquie passed away in her 77th year on February 14, 2005 in Chilliwack. She was born in New Westminster on November 26, 1927.
Jacquie will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her son Gerry DeCoene (Brandy); grandsons, Travis (Karla), and Chad (Carrie); and great-granddaughters, Cadence and Mattia; step-grandchildren, Allen and Taylor Sevigny; extended family Margaret and Alan Prior; cousin Orlene Berry; the Taylor family Rob (Francine), Janet (Dennis), Tom (Lorraine), Cindy, Jack (Paulette), and Pat (Leslie), and their families.
Jacquie was predeceased by her husband Barrie Baker Taylor.
Jacquie enjoyed life, spending many wonderful years with family and friends at her cabin on Harrison River. She was actively involved with the Fraser Valley Society for Community Living, and had ‘Taylor House’ named after Barrie and herself. Jacquie was a member of the Maple Leafs Ladies’ Group for many years.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at her residence in Chilliwack, on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at 1 p.m.
OOSTENBRUG, Jan - Saturday, 12 Feb 2005
Jan Oostenbrug passed away peacefully into the presence of His Lord on February 12, 2005 at the age of 90 years. He was born in Lauwerzyl, The Netherlands on January 21, 1915.
He is survived by his loving wife, Truus, of 33 years and their three children Mannie (Klaas) Huttema, Dorothy (Walter) Vangrootheest, Sidney (Pat) Oostenbrug, 15 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jan was predeceased by his first wife, Jantje in 1968 and three children in infancy.
Services will be held at the Canadian Reformed Church at 1 pm on February 18, 2005 with Pastor Van Luik officiating.
Donations may be made to the John Calvin School in Yarrow.
MORDEN, Mary Kathleen - Wednesday, 16 Feb 2005
Mary Morden passed away suddenly at the Chilliwack General Hospital with her family by her side on February 16, 2005 at the age of 77 years. She was born in Viking, Alta. on February 2, 1928.
Mary is survived by her children; Sharlene Carter (Stewart), Vickie Hay (Roger), Sandra Geddes (Harry), Marilyn Curtis (Duncan), Cindy Barwin (Farrel) and Michael Morden (Kim), 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothy Thokle, Joan Konrad (Roy) and Arlene Fogen (Herman), brothers Herb Casey and Tom Casey (Elaine) and numerous friends and relatives.
Mary is predeceased by her first husband Alfred Carter in 1953 and her second husband Mike Morden in 1987 and also by her sister Norah and brothers Tom, Jim, Jack, Bill, Harry and Sam Casey.
Mary volunteered at the Public Health Unit in the Immunization Program. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch #4.
Mom was an honest, kind, gentle and loving person who accepted you for who you were. She was very proud of her family and always looked forward to the next time we would all be together. Mom was our foundation. She never wanted credit or recognition, she only wanted to be loved and she was. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was always there for every one of us. We love her and will sorely miss her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Gino Aloisio Celebrant.

MEYER, Donald Percy - Tuesday, 15 Feb 2005
Donald Meyer passed away at The Waverly in Chilliwack on February 15, 2005 at the age of 74 years. He was born in Cornwall, Ontario on November 11, 1930.
Don is survived by his wife Zee of 20 years and daughter Marisa Meyers (Wynn Dale), son Dean Meyer (Carrie), grandchildren, Dustin, Jessica and Joshua. He is also survived by his brother Doug Meyer (Jo) of Georgia. He is also fondly remembered by first wife Myrna and many other family and friends. He was predeceased by seven brothers, one sister and his parents, Herbert and Sadie Meyer.
Don was a veteran of the Korean War and served with the Engineers. He lived most of his life in Chilliwack where he worked at Chilliwack Sash N Door before going on to building houses on his own. He built some 400 homes in Chilliwack.
Don loved golf and was a charter member of the Chilliwack Golf and Country Club. He also was a long time supporter of Jr. A hockey in Chilliwack and a previous owner of the Chilliwack Colts. He attended Chiefs games in the new Prospera Center until a week before his death. He also enjoyed curling and seniors softball. His sense of humour, compassion and the dignity in which he lived his life will never be forgotten.
Service of Remembrance will be held Monday, Feb. 21, 2005 at 10 am from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home with Major Angus Haggarty officiating.

VELDHUIZEN, Laurens - Thursday, 31 Mar 2005
Laurens Veldhuizen, late of Chilliwack, B.C., formerly of White Rock passed away March 31, 2005 in Chilliwack at the age of 78 years. He has born in The Netherlands and had lived in the Chilliwack area for 14 years.
A career carpenter, Larry worked in B.C. since the mid 1950’s. He also worked as a building inspector in the Chilliwack, Harrison and Hope area.
He enjoyed the company of many friends at Rainbow Estates and spent as much time as he was able golfing with several pals.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, April 5th, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home. Cremation, Valley Crematorium, Chilliwack.
He is survived by his wife, Alyda; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
