McNALLY, Ronald “Ron” Henry Charles - Thursday, 26 Oct 2006
Ronald “Ron” McNally passed away peacefully at Chilliwack, B.C. on October 26, 2006 at the age of 95. He is formerly of White Rock and Salt Spring Island. Ronald is survived by his loving family, 3 children George (Mary) McNally - St. Thomas, Ontario, Gerald (Gail) McNally - Lone Butte, B.C., Bonnie (Everett) Brenner - Chilliwack, B.C.; 5 grandchildren Cathy, Brian, Benji-Lyn, Chris and Erin; 4 great-grandchildren Chris, Jillian, Kyle and J.D. Pre Deceased by his wife Dorothy Jean “Bunty” of 65 years in 2003. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at 1:00pm from the Carman United Church, Sardis B.C. Rev. Michael Hare officiating. Cremation. If family or friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
JACKSON, Roy - Friday, 06 Oct 2006
Born in Chilliwack BC on February 2, 1920, and lived in the areas until June 2006; passed away peacefully on Oct 6, 2006 at Shuswap Lake General Hospital. Roy is survived by wife Helen, of 57 years, sons David and Morris and daughter Shirley (Garry) Bates; one brother Tom Jackson, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Roy served 4 1/2 years in the Canadian Army during WWII and then spent the majority of his life farming and logging. In his later years he joined the Atchelitz Threshermens Association where he could often be found operating the sawmill equipment. A memorial tea was be held Oct 21/06, from 1:00 - 4:00 at the Atchelitz Threshermens meeting hall at Heritage Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

He is survived by Margaret, his loving friend & companion of many years. His children, Cindy & Paul & their families. His three daughters and many grandchildren - Liette & Earl, their children Matthew & Joshua; Michelle & Gilles, their children Jessica, Gregory, Zachery & Samantha; Stacy, her children Deihdra & Dalton; and close family member & friend Mike Grimm. He was taken from us too soon and will be sorely missed by his family and the many friends he made over the years
CARR, Florence Margery “Marge” - Wednesday, 25 Oct 2006
Florence Margery “Marge” affectionately “Nanna Banana” - passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on October 25, 2006 after a brief illness. Marge was born in Vancouver on August 9, 1916, the fourth child of Will and Elizabeth Hunter. She was predeceased by her dear husband Stan in 1986 and her three brothers Bill, Don and Jack. She is survived by her daughters Anne Dickey (Gerry) and Sue Severud; grandchildren Linda Fraser (Ted), Mary Ellen Meyers (Shane), Jason Severud (Theresa) and Carlie Severud (Neil); great grandchildren Ian Fraser, Ellery and Hailey Meyers, Erick and Adrianna Severud as well as her sister-in-law Helen Hunter and many nieces and nephews. Marge trained as a beautician in her youth and owned her own business as a young woman. She gave up hairdressing after Sue was born and was a long time employee of Woodward’s Stores. She and her husband Stan lived in Vancouver and then Burnaby, but after his death she lived briefly in Coquitlam then bought a house at Cultus Lake in 1992 where she resided until very recently. She loved her family dearly and her happiest times were spent with the extended family, including many family dogs, singing along while Stan played the banjo. Marge recently celebrated her 90th birthday with the family and a good time was had by all. Memorial service was held October 28, 2006 at McLean’s Funeral Services. Her ashes will be taken to Galiano Island to be scattered on the beach where Stan’s ashes were taken 20 years ago.

Chance Jonathan Long passed away on the 9th of April, 2006 at home in Chilliwack, BC at age 12 years. He was born November 30, 1993 in Lethbridge, AB.
Chance is survived by his dad, Marcel Garnet (step-mom, Autumn); Mom, Jody Marie; step-dad, Fernand; sisters, Destiny May, Jasmine Dakoda and Emma Nicole; his grandma, Helene and grandpa, Ken Long; grandma, Barb and grandpa, Grant Githmark, great grandma, Clemence Jepson; aunt, Debbie (Ross) Milne, Auntie Michelle Rasmussen, cousins, Alexandria and Lucas Milne, Travis Worden; great uncle, Jim (Sharon) Jepson and friends, Honey and Robbie Armstrong, Harriet North Pegan, Fernand Sr. and Maria Gervais and Lorna and Dave Parsons.
Chance was predeceased by his great-grandfathers Harry Jepson, Garnet Long, and Andrew Githmark and great-grandmothers, Irene Long and Jean Githmark.
Chance was a wonderful gift given by God. We were all so blessed to have had him as part of our lives for 12 years. Chance attended Mountainview Evangelical Free Church and was pleased to have attended the AMASA Camp for Special Needs Children.
Funeral Services will be held at the Chilliwack Alliance Church Monday, April 17, 2006 at 10:30 am with viewing to begin at 9:30 am; Pastor Allan Harder officiating. Pall bearers will be Dave Parsons, Stan Derksen, Ross Milne, Richard Braun, Robbie Armstrong and Kerry Heathman. Cremation to follow.
Donations in Chance’s memory may be made to the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.
LEACH, Doris Anne - Monday, 10 Apr 2006
Loving wife of Jim, mother to Michael and Kelly, mother-in-law to Martin and Lisa, grandmother to Josce, Samantha, Patrick, Amanda, David, Jackie and assorted dogs, great grandmother to Elora and Cadence.
Doris was born March 12, 1935 in Sydney, N.S. to Jack and Doris Findlay.
She passed away at the Bancroft Hospital on April 10 as a result of a stroke. Cremation followed immediately.
FOTHERINGHAM, Edna Mae - Tuesday, 11 Apr 2006
Mother, survivor, church member, musician, artist, hostess, friend. Born Sept. 25, 1908 in Rouleau, Saskatchewan. Died April 11, 2006 at the age of 97.
Edna was the third child born to John and Ethel Clarke in a family of 11. n 1928, she married John Scott, who predeceased her in 1934 leaving her a widow at age 25 with four very young children.
During the depression it was a struggle, but Edna was strong and a real survivor.
In 1940 she married Cpl. Douglas Fotheringham who had joined the army and was stationed in Regina.
In 1942, Douglas was posted to R.C.S.M.E. Chilliwack. At that time the family moved out to Sardis, B.C. and became actively involved in school, church and community activities.
Edna’s calling was her church. She belonged to Carman Church and led the choir for over 35 years.
She was a great leader and instrumental in starting the United Church women’s movement and served as the first provincial president. She belonged to Toast Mistress for many years. When she was 69 she took up oil painting. Like all her endeavours, she became an accredited artist.
She was predeceased by Douglas in 1984 and two sisters and four brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Nelmes (Owen), Bradley, Mary-Ann and Jeffrey; Irene McEown (Don), Ardis, Allan and Jill; two sons, Dr. Allan Fotheringham (Anne) of Toronto, Brady, Kip and Cesca; Dr. John Fotheringham (Gail) of Mt. Vernon, WA, John, Debra and Kerri. Also, 24 great-grandchildren (12 boys and 12 girls).
She is survived by one sister, Ruby Miller, of Ottawa, three brothers, Harvey Clarke of Prince George, and Jim Clarke and Dale Clarke of SK.
We would like to thank the staff at Bradley Center for all the wonderful care and attention they gave Edna. We would especially like to thank Judy Thibault, her caregiver, for her wonderful care and attention for the past several years.
A memorial service will be held at Carman Church in Sardis at a future date in May.
HART, Kenneth Howell - Wednesday, 05 Apr 2006
Ken was a caring and thoughtful man, always concerned about the well being of his many friends and family. He was a scientist by profession and took a keen interest in the how and why of everything. He was an accomplished amateur naturalist, and was particularly interested in bird watching and gardening. Ken was an avid curler and golfer, enjoying both sports until his last. He always had some advice to offer, and loved to fix things. Ken died peacefully on the morning of his 82nd birthday, April 5th 2006 in Chilliwack General Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Born April 5th 1924 in Edmonton, Alberta he was the son of the late Herbert J. D. Hart and Hannah (Langford) Hart. He attended the University of Alberta where he received an Msc. in Physics in 1948. He married his first wife Lorna (Boon) Hart in 1948. He taught at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, and then completed his PhD in Physics at the University of Toronto in 1953. Ken began his career at the National Research Council in Ottawa as a scientist in the Applied Physics Department. Shortly thereafter, Ken and Lorna moved to Cumberland Ontario where they raised their four children. During 1968, he worked for a year as an exchange scientist in Australia before returning to live in Ottawa. He married Ceile (MacEachern) Hart in 1974. He was an enthusiastic and competitive curler; the highlight of his career was when his Ottawa Curling Club rink won the Ontario Masters Curling Championship in 1990.
He retired from the National Research Council in 1989 after 35 years of service. Ken and Ceile moved to Chilliwack BC in 1993; where he continued to enjoy golf, curling, and many friendships.
Ken is survived by one daughter, Leslie (Johnny) Buckland-Nicks; three sons, Howard, (Darlene), Bruce (Jennie), Trevor; three step-daughters Sandra (Dave) Archibald, Judy (Marc) Tessier, Karen Edwards; one step-son Barry (Denise) Edwards; 11 grandchildren and his pet budgie Petie.
He is pre-deceased by his second wife Ceile Hart; step-son Brian Edwards, and three brothers Hubert, Edward (Ted) and Laurence.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held at his last home, the Lynnwood at 9168 Corbould Street, Chilliwack B.C. on Friday April 28th between 1pm and 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
GALBRAITH, Rita Muriel (Whiting) - Thursday, 09 Mar 2006
Passed gently into God’s care with friends at her side, on March 9. 2006 at Chillwack, B.C. Born Feb. 26, 1922 at Sawston, Cambridge, England. She fell in love, married and came to Canada post W.W. II with her loving husband Trenton (RAF and RCAF pilot) and daughter Virginia, who have both predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Betty (Cliff) and brother George (Helga) in England and by numerous nieces and nephews and friends whom she loved dearly. A Memorial Tea / Open House will be held on Friday, April 21, 2006 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Lynnwood Retirement Residence, 9168 Corbould St., Chilliwack. Donations to a favourite charity would be in keeping with this wonderful lady’s caring nature. Her laughter and jokes will be missed by all.
BESSETT (nee Kelly), Myrtle Anne - Friday, 07 Apr 2006
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and true friend after a brief battle with viral pneumonia. Myrt was surrounded by friends and family when she passed on Friday April 7, 2006 at Chilliwack General Hospital.
Born in the Cariboo town of Barkerville, BC, she met her soul mate Bob Bessett and they followed the construction industry around the province before settling in Chilliwack, raising Brad & Suzie and building Chilliwack Gravel Sales into the successful business it remains today.
Predeceased by husband and best friend Bob and their daughter Suzie, Myrt enjoyed spending her time with son Brad (Kris) and grandchildren Ryan, Taylor, Lizzie, Cameron and Bailey.
Myrt enjoyed her days helping Brad run the family business as well as her visits, gaming excursions, dinners and Chilliwack Chiefs hockey games with family & friends.
Always the consummate hostess, Myrt will be fondly remembered as the family glue through good times and life’s many challenges. We could always count on Myrt to provide the time and place for friend & family get togethers and to lift our spirits with plentiful food, drink and oh so many desserts and sweets.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Richmond and the staff of the Intensive Care Unit at the Chilliwack General Hospital for their patience, kindness and understanding throughout Myrt’s brief stay. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Gordon Enns for his compassion and caring manner.
At Myrt’s request there will be a private memorial for family members and friends at 8741 Sunrise Drive on Saturday April 15, 2006 from 12 noon until 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Intensive Care Unit at the Chilliwack General Hospital.
EMERY, Janet (Jean) Emily - Wednesday, 05 Apr 2006
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet (Jean) Emily EMERY, on April 5th, 2006 with her son and daughter-in-law by her side. Jean was the daughter of James and Emily THOMSON, born on October 29, 1922 in Edmonton Alberta.
Jean moved to B.C. in 1940 and settled in Powell River. Jean was employed as a “Rivet girl”, manufacturing aircraft during World War II. She met and married her first husband Gifford NORTHEY, and had one child, Sheila Lynn NORTHEY.
Jean and family moved to Hope, B.C. in 1952 and owned and operated a convenience store. After the dissolve of her first marriage, Jean moved to Chilliwack from 1955-1980. Bill and Jean had one son, Bill EMERY Jr.
Jean worked in local businesses in the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s, such as Stedman’s, Pat’s Style Shop (as a Seamstress), People’s Jewellers and eventually at the Government Agent’s office where she retired.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, four brothers and one sister, both husbands and her daughter. Jean is survived by one sister (Maureen BUSTIN) of Chilliwack and one brother (Neil THOMSON) of Powell River, B.C. She is also survived by her son Bill (Gail) EMERY, one step daughter Roxanne (Bob) BOYD of Grinrod, B.C., 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Jean will always be remembered for her open door policy at her home, having an ear to listen and being more than generous with anything she has. A saying told to her by her father, “Never say Whoa in a bad spot”, carried her through life as she met things head on and never backed down. Jean was small in stature but walked with attitude, the word “feisty” describes her perfectly.
Special thanks to the Nurses on the 3rd floor of CGH and the Care nurses at Glenwood Rest Home in Agassiz for making her last days comfortable with their kindness and attentiveness. Jean would remark often how nice you all were.
Thanks Mom for always being there for anyone that needed a hand or an ear, and loving us no matter what.

DYCK, Peter - Wednesday, 05 Apr 2006
Peter Dyck, late of Chilliwack, B.C. passed away April 5, 2006 at the age of 83 years. He was born April 3, 1923 in Haldstadt, Manitoba.
Peter was one of 11 children. At the age of 16 he served in World War II from 1939 to 1945 with P.P.C.L.I. Division #1. He lived in Winnipeg and moved to Chilliwack in 1966. He worked for D.N.D. Civil Service at C.F.B. Chilliwack. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4, Senior Vets Society, Federal Super Annuits, was an avid outdoorsman, in particular hunting.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Allan Harder officiating. Cremation, Henderson’s Funeral Home and Crematorium.
Peter is survived by his wife, Lorna; daughter, Carol Dyck of Tyler, Texas; son, Ross Dyck (Carole Lefebvre) of Edmonton, Alta; grandchildren: Keith, Tyler and Stacey Dyck; son, Don (Joanne) Dyck of Chilliwack; grandchildren, Tiffany, Jennifer and Jacob; brother, John (Ruby) Dyck of Winnipeg; several nieces and nephews.

HIRCH, Lydia - Friday, 07 Apr 2006
Lydia Hirch was born on March 12, 1920 in Poland. In 1941, she married Ferdinand Hirch and the following year they had their only child, Waldimar. In 1945, she was forced to flee Poland while Ferdinand continued to serve in the military. For one year, Lydia lost all contact with her husband but they were reunited when Ferdinand was wounded. They immigrated to Winnipeg in 1951and then moved to Chilliwack to establish a bakery in 1961.
Their son, Waldimar married Herta and became a missionary to Argentina and then Brazil. Within the next few years, Lydia and Ferdinand were blessed with 5 grandchildren and today, they have 7 great grandchildren as well.
In 1988, Lydia had open- heart surgery and within the last few years, she once again suffered from heart trouble. Ferdinand lovingly took care of Lydia until she was admitted to Chilliwack hospital with a case of Pneumonia and a colon infection. She passed quietly into the presence of the Lord on Friday April 7 at 1:30 am. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 13, 1:30 pm at Central Pentecostal Assembly, 9535 Williams St. Donations can be made to Maranatha Missionary Society for the on going work in Brazil.
HOCKEN, Max Douglas - Friday, 24 Mar 2006

The family of the late Max Hocken appreciates the special care and attention provided by the staff at the Chilliwack General Hospital. We are grateful for the compassionate care Max received during his last days. We would also like to thank our friends and relatives for their kind thoughts and well wishes during our time of loss.
Max Douglas Hocken passed away peacefully in the Chilliwack General Hospital on March 24, 2006. Born April 14, 1927 in Innisfail, Alberta, he was the youngest of seven children born to Mark Dainty and Nora (Gilbert) Hocken. After his marriage in 1950 to wife Marie Cecile Cyre, he resided in Innisfail, Alberta until 1968, when he and his family moved to Chilliwack, B.C.
Max was loved, and is greatly missed by his children, Melvin, John, Joan (Merrick), Daniel, Gilbert, Teresa (Meeres), and Guy; and Grandchildren, Nathan, Sabrina, Kimberly, Jillian, Douglas, Eric, Angie, Meghan, Benjamin, and Clayton.
Max is survived by his siblings, Bruce Hocken and Bessie Davis, of Innisfail, Alberta.
In honor of Max’s request, no service will be held.

Gerhard Hoffmann, formerly of Montreal, passed away July 31, 2005 in Chilliwack at the age of 71 years.
Gerhard was born on April 10th, 1934 in Berlin, Germany. He lived in this area for 7 years.
