Elliot, Helen

Helen Elliot (nee Enns) passed away very suddenly on June 14, 2012 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, BC.

Helen will be sorely missed by her family: husband Bill Elliot; children Debbie Elliot & Gary LaFournie, Sharon Zorn & Darin Fluter, Gerald ( Johanna ) Elliot; grandchildren April, Tyson, Evan, Eric, Wilson and Nolan; three sisters and three brothers in Manitoba.

Helen was born in Altona, MB and spent much of her life in southern Manitoba. She and Bill were married in 1959 and together they raised their family in the Winnipeg and Brandon areas. Helen and Bill retired to Creston in 1992, here Helen enjoyed numerous activities and clubs including the Swan Valley Swingers Square Dancing Club, The Creston Wildlife Centre, the Red Cross, swimming and quilting.

Helen loved people and being in social situations with family and friends. All her married life she was a camper, a fisher and enjoyed being active.

A Celebration of Life Service and Interment of Ashes will be held at a later date.

Ross, Gen

Gen Ross ( nee Grizzelle ) passed away on June 5, 2012 in the Crest View Care Village at the age of 89 years. Gen was born to parents Bea & Cecil Grizzelle on September 14, 1922 in Nelson, BC. She received her formal education in Nelson, BC and then continued her education in Victoria, BC.

After her schooling, Gen taught for three years in Proctor BC in the early 40’s. Gen married Arthur James Ross on February 22, 1945 in Nelson, BC. She then stayed at home and raised their family until the early 1970’s when she began working at the Truscott’s Honey farm.

She was a part of numerous clubs and committees including the following: Erickson Hospital Auxiliary, Pioneer Villa Auxiliary, T.A.P.S., Hospital Tuck Shop, a Bridge Club, Lady Kiwanis, Cresteramics, Creston Wildlife Center and the Creston Valley Library.

Gen was predeceased by her parents Bea & Cecil Grizzelle; husband Jim Ross; son Garry Ross and close friend and companion Dan Butler.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children Doug (Denise) Ross, Val (Richard) Ahtila, Anita (Bob) Middleton, Dave Ross and Irene Robinson; grandchildren Terry (Kendel) Zeyha, Heather (Josh) Steffl, Collin (Madeline) Ross, James Middleton, Allan Middleton, and Amanda Middleton (Mike Morgan); great grandchildren Colten and Tyler Zeyha.

The Memorial Funeral Service was held Monday June 11, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating. Interment of Ashes took place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC

Knopfler, Alfred

Alfred Knopfler passed away on May 11, 2012 in the Creston valley hospital at the age of 83 years.

Alfred was born in Schlegel, Amtzell, Germany on November 2, 1928 to parents Anna and Franz Knopfler. He received his education in Amtzell, Germany and then moved to Canada in 1952. In Canada he lived in several places, including Lloydminster, Ontario and Uranium City, before settling in Canyon in 1980. Here he grew alfalfa and ranched cattle. Alfred married Marianne in Creston in 1995.

Alfred was a member of the German Canadian Club, Knights of Columbus (in Uranium City) and a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Franz Knopfler and two brothers in Germany.

Alfred will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marianne; stepchildren Waltraud (Paul) Greenough and Ralph (Roberta) Pelzmann; three step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren along with one sister and two brothers in Germany.

A funeral service was held Tuesday May 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Tom Kakkaniyil officiating.

Echo Taylor passed away peacefully on August 15, 2012 in the Creston Valley at the age of 89 years.

Echo was born on the family farm to parents Marion & Earl Nielsen on June 26, 1923 in Milk River, AB and at just nineteen years of age, Echo had her first career as a school teacher.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she volunteered many hours in the community doing many different things from 4H to the hospital auxiliary.

Echo was predeceased by her husband Robert; son Wayne and granddaughter Deanna.

She will be dearly missed by her sons Bob (Marg), Gerald (Elaine), Barry (Shirley) and Ritchie (Janice); daughters Joanne (Don), Marcia (Dennis) and Scottie (Bob); along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Echo was the kindest, most caring, loving and forgiving person who would reach out to anyone in need. She truly led a Christ like life.

A Funeral Service was held Friday August 24, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop David Falconer officiating.

Amy Grace Brown
Born – July 26, 1921 at Saskalta, AB
Passed Away – August 12, 2012 at Creston, BC

Amy Grace was born at Saskalta, AB on July 26, 1921. The youngest of seven children born to Frank and Amy Coates who had a homestead in the district in 1909, coming from Peterborough, ON.

Amy is predeceased by her husband David Henderson Brown; sisters Enilda, Audrey and Thelma; brothers Cecil, Earl and Orville. Amy Grace Brown is the last of a wonderful pioneer family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Eldon and spouse Diane, grandson David Nathan Johnson, granddaughter Jennifer, spouse Walter Felytsyn and great grandsons Evan and Olexa Felytsyn. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews of the Coates Clan that have always visited and kept in touch over the years, Mervin and Jeanette, Lloyd and Jo, Ray and Adele, Audrey and Ross Jamieson, Laverne and Marta, Claire and Carroll, Guy and Amber, Lorraine and Denise and Marlin Pezderic.

A Private Family Graveside Service was held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC.

Ahlefeld, Mary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Ahlefeld, on August 17, 2012. She was born in Saskatchewan where she received her education and married her husband Hugo. They later moved to Alberta and then to Wynndel, BC.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Huge; parents John and Barbara Decker; sister Felica (Bill) Manz; brother Ed (Lilly) Decker; daughter-in-law Sheila Ahlefeld; grandson Keith Ahlefeld and son Gary Ahlefeld.

She is survived by her two sons Ben (Donna) and Fred (Betty); daughter-in-law Joan; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Mabbott, Elizabeth Marie (Marie)

Elizabeth Marie (Marie) Mabbott passed away peacefully on August 2, 2012 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 92 years.

Marie was born to parents Elizabeth and Jesse Hoskins on October 10, 1919 in Castor, AB. She received her education in Castor, AB.

Marie married Herbert Mabbott on November 27, 1940 in Stettler, AB.

She was a member of Rotacrest, Creston Valley Seniors and a longtime member of the Creston Hospital Auxiliary.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Herbert Mabbott and her daughter Thelma Willox.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son Dale (Gloria) Mabbott, of Devon, AB; daughter Lila Kobi of St. George, ON; daughter June (Marvin) Walker of Creston, BC; son Mervyn (Ruth) Mabbott of Burlington, ON and son-in-law Jim Willox of Kelowna, BC

A Private Family Celebration of Life Service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC
