ROUSSIN - Marcel Pierre 1913 - 1998. After a brief illness on Wednesday, July 29, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. Marcel Roussin was a long term resident of #504-172 East 2nd Street, North Vancouver. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday July 31, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. at St Stephen's Roman Catholic Church, 24th & Mountain Highway, North Vancouver, B.C. His son, Bishop Raymond Roussin, S.M. presiding. Interment of cremated remains will take place in Winnipeg, MB. Mr. Roussin is survived by his son Bishop Raymond Roussin, S.M. of Gravelbourg, SK; his daughter Lucille Lang and husband Patrick and their children Jocelyne and Bridget, of Winnipeg, MB., his son Gerard Roussin and his wife Diane and their children Jill, Christopher and Alix, of North Vancouver and several nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to the staff of Lions Gate Hospital for their excellent care. CHAPPLE - Veronica. Passed away peacefully at Evergreen House, July 25, 1998 in her 80th year. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph Pow and her second husband William Chapple, also her two brothers John and Martin and two grandchildren Jimmy and Modeen. She will be greatly missed by sons Jim and Joe and daughters Betty Ann, Merilyn (Wayne), Judy (Ken). Also her two sisters Edna and Emily. Her grandchildren Kim, David, Dawn, Wally, Jamie, Laura, Shannon, Dean, Christopher and Robin and also by her many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson and her many nieces and nephews. DOCKER - Irene Grace (nee Addison). Passed away peacefully at home, after a brave struggle with cancer, July 27, 1998 at the age of 78 years. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Ken, daughter Janice Riggs, daughter and son-in-law Jo-Anne and Ed Booiman and her be-loved grandchildren Joella, David and Laura. Also survived by sisters Dorothy Hanna, Ronda Rouse and brother Gordon Addison. A special thanks to Westcoast Health Care workers and the Burrard Unit Home Care nurses. Sandberg (Floyer) - Cynthia Edith of North Vancouver. Passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of July 25, 1998, after a brief illness, in her 74th year. Cynthia was a courageous and independent woman who, as a single mother, raised two sons. Although born in England, Cynthia grew up mainly in Vancouver, returning to England during the Second World War to serve with the British Army on the Rhine under Field Marshall Montgomery. After the war, she returned to Canada and became a Canadian Citizen in 1952. Cynthia took great pride in the accomplishments of her two sons, and delighted in "puttering in the garden". Cynthia is survived by her sons, Tim Sandberg of Calgary, Alberta; Nick Sandberg of North Vancouver, BC; as well as her sister Diana Maclachlan of New Westminster, BC; nephews Mark Floyer, James Floyer, and Tony Maclachlan; and niece Cecile Floyer, all of England; and her cat Samantha. She was predeceased by her brother, David Cornish Floyer of Exeter, England. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 5 at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

McLAUGHLIN - James. Passed away suddenly at home July 30, 1998. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Annette and children Jamie (Trudi), Janice (Jeff), and Stephen (Kerry) and grandchildren Shannon, Danielle and Jaydon. No funeral by request.

BLACKETT - David Albert. We announce with great sorrow the passing of our loving father, brother and grandfather on July 16, 1998, aged 60. His son Gordon, daughters Brenda and Laura, grandchildren Danielle, Michael, Vanessa and Trevor and his sister Lil survive him. Predeceased by his beloved wife Kathy and brother William. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. No service by request. A commemoration to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25 at 2208 St. Andrews Avenue, North Vancouver. BLACKETT - David A. Aged 60 years. Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 16, 1998. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by his loving wife Lois Roberta. He is also much loved and missed by: sister Lil (Dave Mattson); daughters Brenda (Dave Fotia), Laura (Willie); son Gordon; daughter-in-law Heather, stepdaughters Pamela (Peter), Camille (Brian MacTavish), Yvonne (Roger Andrews) and Tara; grandchildren Michael, Thomas, Jennifer, Vanessa, Matthew, Danielle, Emma, Trevor, Robyn, Meghan and Grady; as well as many other family and friends. Dave was a warm, wonderful person, well liked by all. His gentle demeanor and ever so contagious laugh will be missed. Dave had many joys in life, but his greatest love was his flower garden, where he spent many hours preparing it to perfection. This year was no exception. Dave was also a master wood craftsman without equal. Created to perfection with loving hands, his projects and accomplishments are too numerous to mention. We also recognize his delight in astrology and the stars, complete with an exacting knowledge that was so characteristic of Dave. In accordance with Dave's wishes, no service will be held.

BOYD - Beryl Heath (nee Phelps). Died peacefully Sunday, July 12, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband John Clement (Jack) Boyd in May, 1992. She leaves her sister Hilda Munton of Sidney; stepson John Randle Boyd of Langley; stepdaughter Meredith Jane Boyd of Vancouver; nephews John Munton, Victoria, Heath Beggs, North Vancouver, Chris Beggs, Courtney; nieces Joan Donaldson and Marcia Kinzie, both of Victoria; former daughter-in-law Nora Marti; and step-granddaughters Erica Moore and Michelle Boyd, all of Calgary. At her wish there will be no funeral or memorial service.

DENNIS - Josie May. Passed away into the presence of her Lord at the Evergreen House in North Vancouver on Saturday, July 18, 1998. Age 87 years. Predeceased by her husband Roy in 1976, and son Douglas in 1988. Leaves to mourn her daughter Beverley Laing (Hubert); and 2 sons Gordon (Jan) and Lorne (May); and daughter-in-law Lynne; also 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. DOWELL - Nancy Anne. Born July 14, 1930 Saskatoon, Sask. Passed away suddenly May 20, 1998. Long-time resident of the North Shore. Survived and deeply missed by her sister Irene Overall; daughter Colleen; son Kerry (Leanne); grandchildren Carrie-Anne, Justine and Liam; and great-granddaughter Mikyla. McLINTOCK - ALICE. In her 91st year. Passed away peacefully on Friday, July 17, 1998 at Nanaimo General Hospital. Beloved wife of Adam Scott, who left this world in 1987. SLINN - Ivy May. Passed away peacefully in Kamloops Hospital, July 17, 1998 in her 92nd year. Long-time resident of Lynn Valley and Mayne Island. She is predeceased by her husband George in 1982 and leaves her daughter Joyce (Don) Ferguson of Kamloops and son Don (Sylvia) Slinn of Mayne Island, 6 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. BYERS - Lila. Born in Winnipeg, September 27, 1906. Passed away July 21, 1998. Predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1966. She is survived by her daughter Beryl (Reid) Benham, son Keith (Nancy) Byers, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Lila was a longtime resident of Kiwanis Lynn Manor.

McGURK - Barbara Henrietta. Passed away peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital on May 11, 1998 after a long illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband John. Born in Quebec City, she taught in Quebec schools until moving to North Vancouver in 1970. In 1983 she received a 50 year Service Award from the Canadian Red Cross Society, she continued to chair the Canadian Red Cross Blood donor volunteers until 1998. She will be missed by many good friends. Many thanks to the Lions Gate Palliative Care Unit staff for their kindness and care. THOMPSON - John Edward (Jack). Passed away peacefully on July 17, 1998 at Lions Gate Hospital. Age 78 years. Predeceased by son John in 1995. Survived by wife Catherine; son Robert (Pat); daughter Janet (Ken); daughter-in-law Juanita; grandchildren Candice (Kevin), Nicole (Marco), Geoffrey, Heather, Graham, and Jacqueline; sisters Eleanor, Ethel (Tom), Margaret, Eileen; brothers Fred (Ruth), Robert (Mary), Albert (Melba); and many nieces and nephews. Jack enlisted in the Canadian Military in 1939 and served with the Seaforth High-landers and the Princess Louise Dragoon Guards until his discharge in 1945. Jack worked 39 years in the pulp and paper industry in Port Alice and Woodfibre. He served as an Auxiliary R.C.M.P. in North Vancouver for 18 years. JOHANSEN - Paul Bedford Johansen. Born November 13, 1946. Passed away on Sunday, July 12, 1998 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Paul leaves behind his loving wife and companion of 30 years, Diane, son Matthew and daughter Karen, father Ollie of Sechelt and brothers Marty (Elaine) of Nelson and Norm (Donna) of Sechelt. Predeceased by brother David (Norma). Paul will also be sadly missed by his many friends. He will be remembered particularly for his optimism, perseverance and marvelous sense of humour.
Paul was born and raised in North Vancouver where he lived until 1976 when he and Diane moved to Prince George. They returned to North Vancouver in 1982 where they remained until 1993 when Paul moved to Parksville where he worked as a realtor.
A memorial service will be held at the West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue on Friday July 17 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a reception at 856 Braeside Street, West Vancouver.

LOWERY - Betty (nee Holtby). At Lions Gate Hospital on Sunday, July 12, 1998 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of Wellington ("Bus') and dear mother of Richard and his wife Alexandra. Lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Dorothy Fallis and nephews Wayne, Don and families.
A kind and gracious woman to all who knew her. Born in Winnipeg, spent early married years productively on a farm at Regina and a long and happy retirement in West Vancouver.

Bill had a long career in the auto-motive industry working in Victoria and Vancouver. He retired in 1990 and in 1993 Bill and Barbara moved from North Vancouver to Redwing Resorts, Penticton. Here he enjoyed golf, RVing and socializing with his many good friends. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all.

ELLIS - Vincent "Bud" Ambrose Ellis. Born in the village of Holstein, Ontario, on October 2, 1916. Died suddenly at Lions Gate Hospital, North Vancouver, on July 15, 1998. Beloved husband and father, he was predeceased by his wife and best friend, Helen, in 1996. He is survived by two sisters, Billie-Marie Westman and Jean Keevil, both of Ontario. He will be sorely missed by his two sons, Dr. Brian E. Ellis (Vancouver) and Dr. Shane E. Ellis (Kelowna); their wives, Margaret Ellis (Dempsey) and Cheryl Ellis (Matechuk). By his five grandchildren Erica, Jessica, Brendan, Graham and Jennifer, and by his many friends. Artist, raconteur, career veterinarian and avid fly fisherman - Bud's remarkable life and spirit will be celebrated at a gathering of friends and family at 1410 Gordon Ave, West Vancouver, on Monday, July 20, at 2:00 p.m. No flowers by request of the family. LAURIE - James Scott. Passed away on July 16, 1998, at the age of 93. Survived by his sister-in-law Joyce Behenna, nephews John and Bill Behenna and niece Jan Durkin. No service by request.
ROLLS - William Gerald. Passed away in North Vancouver, B.C., on June 25, 1998, in his 79th year. Beloved brother of Velma Heer of Kitchener, Berniece and Joe Wood of Conestoga Lake; sister-in-law Rosaline Rolls of Bayfield and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers and one sister. He will also be missed by close friends Muriel Salter and Vern Poustie. Donations can be made to the North Vancouver Rotary Club. Cremation. GERMYN - David Henry. Born November 20, 1934 in North Vancouver. Passed away suddenly June 26, 1998. Survived by one brother and one daughter. A memorial tea to be held at his brother's home.
INGLIS - Helen (Nellie). Passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 1998 in West Vancouver in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her husband Peter and by her son Bert. Survived by her son Bruce (Bev); her daughter-in-law Mary; three granddaughters, Margaret (Darcy), Michele (Peter) and Teri; and her grandson Chris; four great-granddaughters, Chelsea, Christa, Amberlie and Alaina; and by her many friends. MULHOLLAND - Michael John Jr. Passed away in a tragic accident on June 27, 1998 on Cedros Island, Mexico. Mike was a husband, friend and partner in love, parenthood and business to Valerie Lang, father to Shane and Leah, loving son to Michael Sr. and treasured grandson to Nana Violet Nichols; he is pre-deceased by his mother Violet-Belle Mulholland. Lovingly remembered by his sister Catherine Mulholland and brother-in-law Lyonel Recorbet, his brother Patrick Mulholland and Karla Grennon, mother-in-law Beverly Lang and father-in-law Bernard Lang and his many in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins. Services wil be held Friday July 3, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2725 Lonsdale in North Vancouver. A "Celebration of Mike's Life" will follow at the top of Grouse Mountain from 2:00 to 6:00. Guests are asked to arrive at the base of the gondola at 1:30. SHUTTLEWORTH - Elizabeth McAlpine. Passed away peacefully on June 29, 1998 at the Cedarview Lodge. Born in Scotland in 1914, she moved to Canada where she married and raised a family in Brandon, Manitoba. In 1966 Betty moved to North Vancouver with her husband Les, till his passing in 1971. Betty remained on the North Shore till her passing of this year. She will be sadly missed by her son, granddaughters, great-grandchildren, loving sisters, brother, nieces and nephews. Betty was fond of the outdoors and the beauty of nature. May she rest eternally with her husband Les surrounded by the love they had. Betty requested there will be no service. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the B.C.'s Children's Hospital.

SUTHERLAND - LAURA MATHIESON. On June 26, 1998 at the age of 104. Born January 29, 1894 in Inver-gowrie, Scotland. Laura was the last surviving member of the family of William and Jane Mathieson and ten brothers and sisters. She emigrated to Victoria with her parents in 1911 and worked for the BC Forest Branch and was a stenographer to the late H.R. MacMillan who was the chief forester at the time and where she met her husband Ivan Gordon. They had three children, Gordon (Marie), Lorne (Bernice), and Doreen Slattery, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her son-in-law Patrick Slattery. Laura was a member of the Canadian Women's Club for many years and was also a volunteer at Brock House in Point Grey. In 1982 she moved to West Vancouver where she was a member of the West Vancouver Seniors. The past several years she was a resident at Lynn Valley Lodge and North Shore Private Hospital. The family will gather for a Celebration of her Life.

ROBERTSON - Bob left us suddenly on June 27, 1998 at 43 years of age. Bob is survived by his daughter Nicole and her mother Judy Adolph; his mother Yvette; his father and stepmother Tom and Sandra; brother Tom and his wife Joan; sisters Michelle and Lissa; and nephews Chris, Alan, Ryan and Bryant.
Bobby, above this earth you now soar; your trials and tribulations are no more. Your charm, your smile, your hearty laughter, will be remembered for ever after.

BOOTH - Elizabeth Stewart (Bessie). Passed away peacefully on June 20, 1998, one day before her 93rd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband George and three children, Dave, Betty and George. She is survived by two sons, Sam (Mildred) and Jim (Donna), 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many other loving family members. She will be greatly missed and always fondly remembered. A service will be held at the Boal Memorial Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Rd, North Vancouver on Friday, June 26, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. In Bessie's memory donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
