REID - Douglas LeBaron. Passed away peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital on June 20, 1999. Born in Calgary in 1911 Doug moved to Vancouver in 1920. Doug attended UBC and was a Beta Theta Phi. Doug owned D.L. Reid Lumber in the late 40's and 50's when he was president of the B.C. Lumbermans Association. With great stamina and determination he continued lumber sales with Tyee and Keystone until last week. Doug and Betty (nee Whalley) have been happily married for 59 years. Doug is survived by wife Betty, son David (Martha), daughter Sydney (Ronald) Stagg and granddaughter Kirsten, sister-in-law Pat Whalley, nieces and nephews. On request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation

SHAW - Arthur Victor (Vic). Passed away June 19, 1999 at 80 years of age. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Viola (Vi); son Wally (Nancy); daughter Donna (Rob); grandchildren Stephen, Heather (Michael), Trevor (Erica), Leanne (Gary), Tanya (Derrick) and Kyle; great-granddaughter Julianna. Predeceased by sister Phyllis. Survived by sisters Dorothy and Ethel and brother-in-law Gran, nephews and nieces. Memorial Service to be held at St. Andrews United Church, 1044 St. Georges Ave, North Vancouver, B.C. on Friday, June 25, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. Private family interment at Capilano View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 565 West 10th Ave, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 4J4 or a charity of your choice.

She will be sadly missed by her 5 children, Marijke, Herman, Martin, Anneke, Hans; daughter-in-law Janet; son-in-law John; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. HEGLER - Kenneth Gordon (born February 10, 1915, died June 22, 1999). Gone to be with Grace Margaret, beloved wife and best friend of 62 years (born March 10, 1915, died March 12, 1998). Sadly missed by son Kenneth; daughters Susan, Lynda (John Bow and family); grandchildren Bruce and Carol; and great-grandson William. A celebration of their lives to be held on Saturday, June 26, 1999 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at 711 W. Queens Rd, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers donations to Lions Gate Hospital I.C.U./C.C.U. PLATT - Michael David. Son of Richard and Halley Platt. Born August 1, 1970. Died in an accidental fall June 20, 1999. Michael is survived by his mother Halley, his brother Reyan and Reyan's wife Jennifer, his grandfather Gordon and Gordon's wife Edith Mary, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends who loved and will dearly miss him. Michael is designing and building earth in heaven with his father Richard, grandmother Doris and uncle Harry. A memorial service will be held at the Delbrook Baptists Church, 515 West Windsor Rd, North Vancouver, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 25, 1999. GAIT - Thomas Wyndham. Born Tredegar, Wales, August 8, 1922. Passed away peacefully at home June 21, 1999. Survived by his loving wife Dorothy; daughters Shirley, Debbie (Abe), Kim (Guy); grandson Shayne (Sarah); great-grandson Tyrell; sister Olive Underdown and family. He was a loving husband, proud father, very proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all, including many friends. A part of you will live in us forever. LITTMANN - Arthur. Born April 10, 1922. Died June 24, 1999 at Lions Gate Hospital. Survived by wife Audrey, daughters Helene and Elaine, sisters Elsa Logan of Ottawa, Dorothea Montgomery of Saskatoon, sister-in-law Rhoda Littmann, and relatives and friends. Arthur served during WWII with the RCAF. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Memorial service to be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 1999 at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver.

BROWN - Robert Wilfred (Bob). Passed away June 23, 1999 in Lions Gate Hospital after a brief but courageous struggle with heart disease. Bob was predeceased by his sister Betty Everest and is survived by his sister Isobel Jesson, his wife Toni, his daughters Catherine (Dan) and Andrea (Jim), his son Peter (Angela) and his grandchildren Michael, Rachel, Charlotte and Mark, Bob's many other relatives and friends will deeply miss him. Born in Lucknow, Ontario, Bob came to Vancouver in the 1940's. He became a teacher in the late 1950's and taught in North Vancouver for over 30 years. Bob was something of a fixture in North Vancouver where he served the community as a volunteer for the Red Cross, a member of the North Shore Historical Society, and a participant in other professional and community organizations. He always had a smile and a kind word for whomever he met, and his good humour and enthusiasm brought warmth and joy to many. Bob loved stories, and he will be lovingly remembered in the many stories he has left us. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 1999, at St Stephen's Catholic Church, Mountain Hwy & 24th, North Vancouver. SCRIVENER - Pat (Martha Margaret, nee Browne). Born April 27, 1918 in Dryman, Scotland. Passed away suddenly June 22, 1999. Predeceased by her husband Derek. She is remembered with love by her children: Jill Harrison (Leigh), David (Diane) and Brian (Claudia) Scrivener; her grandchildren Claire (Sasha), Lynn, Geoffrey, Gregory, Julianna and Mark; her great-grandchildren Aleksandar and Mikaela; and her many friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the West Vancouver Memorial Library.

FERGUSON - J.R. (Ray). Passed away peacefully at home, June 14, 1999 after a short illness. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, January 5, 1916. Ray is survived by his loving wife Elinor, daughter Jan (Koepke), son David, son-in-law Tim, daughter-in-law Gean and grandchildren Mark and Jane Koepke and Sara, Todd, Russel and Nicholas Ferguson.

HOPE - Vivian. We deeply regret to announce the passing of Vivian Hope at the Summerland Hospital Extended Care Unit on June 6, 1999 at the age of 90 years. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Doug in 1980. Vivian is survived by their only child Mary, grandchildren Frances and Ethan, great-grandchildren Levi and Alexa, a sister Bonnie and brother Jud. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 1999 at St. Timothy's Anglican Church with Reverend David Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations to breast cancer research would be greatly appreciated as per Vivian's request.

MACDONALD - John Alexander. Born August 10, 1947. Passed away June 11, 1999 at Lions Gate Hospital. Survived by his wife Mary; beloved children Jennifer and David; mother Johanna; brothers Ron (Diane), Donald (Cathy); sister Rena (David); 7 nieces and nephews, as well as other family and friends. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 1999 at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to Last Door Recovery Centre, 323-8th St, New Westminster, B.C. V3M 3R3 or Canadian Cancer Society.

SIMMONDS - Brenda S. Born in the Orkney Islands, August 13, 1917. Passed away on June 10, 1999 at Cedarview Lodge. Survived by loving husband, Walter, for over 57 years; daughter Sheila Almond (Graham); son Don (Cathy); grandsons Ryan and Tyler (Shannon); granddaughters Brenda Esau (Mike) and Leanne Almond; great-grandchildren Chrystal and Jacob Esau. Also her sister Mary and brother George Linklater, both in Scotland. The love and care by nurses and staff at Cedarview Lodge greatly eased Brenda's final hours. No service. Cremation. In lieu of flowers donations to The Cancer Society would be appreciated.

SOUTHERST - Marion. Born in 1908 in Lancashire, England. Predeceased by her husband John. Passed away suddenly in the early hours of June 14, 1999. Much loved mother of John and Mary, grandmother of Mark and Kim, mother-in-law of Julie and we can't forget Ben who brought her so much joy. Private interment will be followed by a memorial service in Mary's garden at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 1999.

MANNS - Kathleen F. June 11, 1912 to June 13, 1999. Predeceased by her husband Andy 1982. She will always be remembered by her sons Perry (Loreen) and Lyle (Sharon); grandchildren Jack, Kathy, Cary, Vickie, Denise, Jeannine, Ken and Cory. Also 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A resident of North Vancouver for 57 years, she had many friends. Her special friend and neighbour Helen Shook kept her busy and active until she moved to Lynn Valley Lodge. Helen, we thank you for your love and friendship and a special thanks to all the staff at Lynn Valley Lodge.

HUNTER - Ronald Rowat. Born March 23, 1926 in Rosetown, Sask. Died peacefully on June 12, 1999 at St Paul's Hospital. Ron is lovingly remembered by his family, wife Barbara; daughter Dianne Woodman (Gerry), grandchildren Jennifer and James; son Ron (Lorelei), grandchildren Michael and Christopher; stepdaughters Sandra Owens (Mike), grandchildren Lenny, Diane Muscroft (Greg), grandchildren Dan and Nicole; sister Frances Murton and brother Alder (Grace). Served in the Merchant Marine Service during W.W.II. After his service Ron had a varied professional life culminating in the Ownership and Presidency of A.E. Austin Real Estate Company and the B.C. Shakey Pizza Restaurants. Later in his career Ron was active in his own successful Mortgage Brokerage Business. Active in his community, Ron was a Mason and a Shriner, and was President of the B.C. Gymnastics Assoc., on the Vancouver Board of Variance and Chairman of the B.C. Dental Technicians Board. Also a member of the Terminal City Club, Hollyburn Country Club and the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Ron will always be remembered for his positive outlook on life and his "fantastic" sense of humor. Special thanks to the Hemo Dialysis units at St. Paul's Hospital and the Vancouver Community Dialysis Centre. Also, the Dr.'s and nursing staff at St. Paul's Hospital 6-C. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 18, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 1700 Mountain Hwy, North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations the the Kidney Foundation.

MAYALL - Myrtle Irene (Sutton). Passed away on June 15, 1999. Predeceased by her husband Granville Mayall. Survived by her daughter Laurel of Santa Barbara, her son Brent of North Vancouver and her two grandsons James and Sean. She was loved by the many people who she inspired with her humour, wisdom and positive outlook on life. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 1999 at the West Vancouver United Church. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

SCOTT - Norman Leslie 1913-1999. Died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital, early Sunday, June 13, 1999. Predeceased by his loving wife Elvira in 1996 and beloved son Dr. Richard Scott in 1989. Survived by sisters-in-law Mildred Dalton (Jim), Doris Scott; nieces Robin Cocroft (Bill), Laurel Zulke (Doug), Diane Barnett, Betty Cooper, and many friends. Norman was known by friends and family for his wit and keen business sense. Venturing into his own business in the late forties and successfully retiring 20 years later. Never one to rest, Norman took on the job of selling Real Estate (Mitten Realty of North Vancouver) for another 10 years. Norman will be fondly remembered and always loved. No service will be performed at Norman's request. Donations to the charity of your choice.

SPRAY - Edward H. March 23, 1925 - June 9, 1999. Ed will be deeply missed by his wife Jean; daughter Debora; son Grant; son-in-law Shawn Martin; grandchildren Jacqueline, Garrett, Damien and Mikayla; as well as all who knew him and loved him. Ed brought smiles to many faces over the years with his cartoon drawings and clever wit. He was actively involved in the community along with his fellow Lions at the North Vancouver Lions Club and the Hwy 24 Interlakes Lake Lions Club. A celebration of his life and work will be held at his daughters home in Kelowna on June 26, 1999 from 2:00 p.m. R.S.V.P. at (250) 769-3270. YOUNG - Donna Jonina. Passed away suddenly after a lengthy illness on June 9, 1999 at Inglewood Care Centre. Born January 26, 1946 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Donna moved to Vancouver in 1973. She made her home in North Vancouver and worked for ICBC for over 20 years. Donna will be forever loved and sadly missed by her daughter Shawna, family, and many, many friends. A Celebration of her life will be held at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Dr., West Vancouver on Friday, June 18, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Donna's name to the S.P.C.A. or any charity of your choice.
