Randy Wade Oman
1985-2006

Randy Wade Oman passed away in Arras, British Columbia on October18th, 2006 at 20 years of age. He was born on November 26, 1985 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Reg and Sylvia Oman.

Randy lived life to the fullest and appreciated the fact that he could always have friends around his home. He loved the fishing trips, hunting trips and drives out in the country. Randy had a brilliant smile and a reassuring attitude that everything is going to be all right.

Randy participated in sports with enthusiasm. His sports were hunting, dirt biking, horse riding, sledding, four wheeling, snowboarding and kayaking.

Randy leaves to mourn his loving parents: Reg and Sylvia Oman; brother Robby Oman and sister Reba Oman; grandparents Marion and Vernar Vankoughnett, Eleanor and Yugon Hope and Don and Irene Oman and is fondly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Randy to the Grief and Loss Program c/o School District 59 11600- 7th Street Dawson Creek British Columbia.V1G 4R8

A funeral Service was held on Saturday October 21, 2006 at the South Peace United Church, Dawson Creek, officiated by Reverend Marilyn Carroll. The eulogy was read by Randy’s grandfather, Yugon Hope. Interment followed in the Brookside Cemetery in Dawson Creek.

Arrangements were entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd. of Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

Edward James Shannon
1958-2006

Edward James Shannon was born on December 28, 1958 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Denyse and Cyril Shannon. Ed passed away on October 12, 2006 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia at the age of 47 years.

Predeceased by his parents Denyse Shannon and brother Micheal.

Ed was survived by his father Cyril Shannon, sister Pashan (Monte) and brother David (Veronica), nieces and nephews: Tara, Christopher, Kathryn and Lexane.

A memorial services was held on October 17, 2006 at Bergeron’s Funeral Chapel in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Officiated by Monte Bassett. A private family inurnment followed in the Dawson Creek City Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Ed by way of donation to the MS Society.

Roy Morin
1947 - 2006

Roy Albert Morin passed away in the Pouce Coupe Care Home on October 1, 2006 at the age of 58. He was born in the Dawson Creek Hospital on October 31, 1947. He was the third of eleven children of Leo and Evelyn Morin.

Roy was raised on a farm near the Kiskatinaw River and was a long time resident of Progress, British Columbia. He attended school at Progress and a couple of years in Dawson Creek. After leaving school he went to work. He worked for Clarence Linsley, also for Floyd Hudson. He worked with his brother in-law, Roger on Vancouver Island for a while and he also worked the Grand Duke Mine near Hyder Alaska. But Roy’s favorite job was working for Bill Young. He loved running cat, building roads or anything to do with a cat. He was also a good mechanic. He could tinker for hours.

Roy’s biggest disappointment in life was when he developed Hodgkins Disease and could no longer work. As work was what he loved to do best.

After many chemo treatments the Hodgkins disease went into remission. He moved back to Progress and kept busy cutting grass and keeping his yard nice. He played a lot of cards with his neighbors Danny and Georgia Ryan.

Roy’s health got bad again about four years ago when he developed a chronic lung disease. He was on life support for four days and after spending five months in hospital he went to live in the Pouce Coupe Care Home. He had a lot of respect for the caregivers and won the heart of many.

Roy was told about two months ago that he had a terminal Leukemia. He agreed to blood transfusions. When the second transfusion didn’t work he knew the end was near. He kept his sense of humor and carried on joking with the staff and family until the end. He was very grateful to the staff in the Home for all they did for him.

Roy was predeceased by his father Leo in 2005, and his mother Evelyn in 2000.

He will be sadly missed by his brothers, sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on October 6, 2006 at the Bergeron Funeral Chapel, Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Officiated by Reverend Lee Stephenson.

Ragnar Olsen
1930 - 2006

Ragnar Olson, resident of Pouce Coupe, British Columbia passed away September 25, 2006, in the Pouce Coupe Care Home at the age of 76 years. Born on February 26, 1930 in Gronlid, Saskatchewan to Richard and Karin Olson.

As Ragnar’s family live in Saskatchewan, no service was held in Pouce Coupe. His urn will be inurned in his home town in Saskatchewan at a later date.

Arrangements were entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd. of Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

Mabel Levina (Lee) Hanston
1920-2006

Mabel Levina Hanston was born to John and Laura Nergaard on September 13, 1920 in a farm house near Laglace, Alberta. Raised on a farm with seven brothers and sisters; Juell, Wilma, Inez, Lloyd, Roy, Bernice and Beatrice.

Lee met the love of her life, Hans Hanston, a tall strapping young man, who came over from Norway. They shared their wedding vows on April 8, 1942, and from 1945 to 1962 nine children were born. Through Hans’ travel commitments to military service and his work, the children were born in many different locations through out Canada:

- Bonnie in Gravenhurst, Ontario
- Lynne, David, Debra and Ross in Sexsmith, Alberta
- Eric, Jim, Robyn and Randi in St. Paul, Alberta

In 1964, they moved to Dawson Creek, British Columbia to raise their family. After retirement in 1978, Lee and Hans moved to Gabriola Island and then to Naniamo, British Columbia. After Hans’ death in 2000, Lee moved back to Dawson Creek, until her passing on October 26, 2006.

Lee had a full time job taking care of her children. She also kept busy supporting Hans in his work and community club functions and us in our activities. Lee was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway Club. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, the family camping trips, and the many friends she encountered along the way.

Nine children, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were raised and loved by Lee in her own special way.

She will be dearly missed but never forgotten.

Memorial service was held on October 30, 2006 at the Grace Lutheran Church, Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Officiated by Pastor Tim Johnson.

Frank Hugh Robert Grant
931 - 2006

Frank Hugh Robert Grant was born in Whitehorse, Yukon on April 28, 1931 to Gladys and Hugh Grant.

Frank Lived in Carcross, Yukon with his 3 older siblings Lilian, Moe, Margaret (predeceased October 3, 1998) and 2 younger siblings Lesley and Gordon.

Frank completed grade 11 by correspondence in 1949 then spent a year trying different jobs until he decided it was time to expand his horizons.

In 1950 Frank moved to Lower Post, British Columbia, onto Dawson Creek, where he met Clara Braun, in 1951/52, to Calgary, Vancouver and then back to Dawson Creek where he decided to stay.

Frank Married Clara Braun on March 5, 1955 and had 3 daughters, Joan, Janice and Patricia.

Frank tried many jobs including ‘Cabin Boy’ on a paddlewheel, fright delivery driver, apprentice mechanic, parking cars, moving and storage, taxi owner and carpentry before he started his successful automotive sales career. Frank earned many awards in his career. Grand sales master, grand achiever and trips to other countries. Frank was asked if his career history could be played in the GM hall of fame. A couple years before Frank “Retired” he successful ran for city council where he served 2 or 3 terms. Frank’s greatest loves were the Peace Country (Especially Dawson Creek), poodles and music and spent over 30 years enjoying them. Almost always with a poodle at his side, Frank was a member of the DC Symphonic and Choir and the United Church choir. Frank often referred to Dawson Creek as “God’s Country.

Frank knew the importance of the community and formally volunteered for many different organizations; including Church, vandal patrol, South Peace district crime prevention, Rotary Club, and Kiwanis. Informally, everyone had known Frank was aware if they needed help he would be there anytime, day or night. Frank was voted for Citizen of the year in 1995.

A memorial service was held at the South Peace United Chruch, November 9, 2006. Reverend Marilyn Carroll and Reverend David Wood.

Charles Sylvester Behuncik
1936-2006

Charles Sylvester Behuncik also known as Charlie, Chuck or Chip, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 18, 1936 to Luella and Alois Behuncik. He was the eldest of three children. Charlie passed away in the Dawson Creek & District Hospital on October 6, 2006 at the age of 70 years.

Charlie was fun loving, respectful, honest, intelligent and very sociable. He attended various schools in Saskatchewan and graduated from Tisdale High in 1956. A few years later Charlie moved to the Peace River country where he worked at the Steward Lake Sawmill. In 1959 Charlie homesteaded in Bonanza. Charlie was a resident of Bonanza for 48 years. Through the years Charlie worked for various people and companies in the area.

Charlie met Kay Arsenault in 1985. Charlie and Kay worked together on the farm.

They shared many common interests, so enjoyed each others company very much.

Charlie loved to camp together with friends, baseball and hockey, country music, and to hunt and fish.

Charlie was predeceased by his father Alois, mother Luella and sister Dianne.

Charlie will be fondly remember by his wife Kay, children: Randy (Theresa) Zerke and Lynette (Mike) Metituk; grandchildren: Melissa and Dustin; brother Allan (Joyce) Behuncik; nephews; Shaun, Brett and Brayden and many friends.

A funeral service was held on October 12, 2006 at the Bonanza Community Hall. Pastor Joe Mrak officiated. Interment followed in the Hill Haven Cemetery, Bonanza, Alberta.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

Gavin William Rosie
1932-2006

Gavin William Rosie was born on August 24, 1932 in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia. He passed away in the Dawson Creek Hospital on October 17, 2006 at the age of 74 years.

Gavin was the only child born to Margaret and Bill (William) Rosie. He grew up in the farming communities of Sheardale and Rolla.

Gavin and Flo were married October 15, 1955 and began their married life in the Rolla area, where Gavin began his working life in the farming and trucking business. In 1961 they bought land in the Goodlow area where they spent the summers for the next 17 years, returning to Dawson Creek for the winters. In 1977 they sold the farm at Goodlow and returned to the Rolla area for another 18 years. In 1995 Gavin and Flo retired to Dawson Creek, although Gavin still had not given up his interest in trucking, finally selling his last water truck in 2005.

A big part of Gavin’s life was trucking and farming, but he did take some time out for camping and doing some traveling. He also enjoyed spending many hours reading. Some of Gavin and Flo’s traveling took them to Las Vegas numerous times as well as to Hawaii, Arizona, up the Alaska Hwy. and camping around British Columbia and Alberta.

Gavin was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and William Rosie. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Flo, of 51 years; Terri (Kevin) Hanna; Darren (Sharon) Rosie; and grandchildren Jason and Mathew Hanna.

A memorial luncheon was held at the Rolla Community Hall on October 22, 2006 in remembrance of Gavin. There was no funeral held at his request. Donations can be made in Gavin’s memory to the Arthritis Society of British Columbia.

Arrangements were under the care of Bergeron Funeral Services & Crematorium Ltd., Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
