Shirley Marie (nee Kelly) Frame
September 12, 1937 - October 12, 2010

Shirley was born September 12, 1937 in Cumberland General Hospital, the closest hospital to her family's home in Bevan, BC. She was the second daughter to Jim and Elizabeth (Lil) Kelly and younger sister to Irene. It was while a toddler in Bevan that she first met Walter Frame, whom she later married.

Her days on Vancouver Island were not long, however. The Kellys moved to Vancouver to be closer to Lil's family. Shirley became involved in the raising of show Maltese dogs with her grandparents, who owned Shirlene Kennels. Shirley's Snow Flurry was a much beloved companion and a champion show dog.

As a talented artist, Shirley aspired to be a fashion designer but, on graduating from Vancouver Tech, she opted for teacher training at Vancouver Normal School. She met Walter again and married him in 1958. They had four children: Michelle, Stella, Avril and Kelly. She also had six grandchildren: Shelly, Kelly, Madeleine, Owen, Megan and Ryan and one great-grandchild, Carter.

Walter and Shirley lived all over British Columbia from Ocean Falls to Kamloops, Prince George, Kitimat, Mackenzie, Prince George again and back to Kamloops. Here, Shirley found real passion working with the Kinette Club. She served as President during her time with the Kamloops club. She also managed the Laura Secord Shop, owned her own chocolate shop Welch's Candies, and later owned Shirley's Gifts in the Canadian Inn.

In 1980, she moved with Walt and their two youngest children to Czechoslovakia (as it then was) where she learned to speak Slovak and had many adventures with her ex-pat colleagues exploring the country and its neighbours.

Shirley returned to Canada in 1982 when she became ill. She conquered the illness and went on to have another adventure living in Turkey. There, she learned to speak Turkish and explore a beautiful part of the world.

After Shirley and Walt were divorced, Shirley moved back to Vancouver. There she trained to be a realtor with Century 21. Shirley later joined Colliers International in their property management division where she remained until her retirement in 2002. She cherished her work and her colleagues and spoke often of them in the years that followed. Shirley moved to North Vancouver and finally to Kelowna in 2007.

The many health complications she had over the years conspired to defeat her determined spirit. After several illnesses, Shirley passed away on October 12, 2010. She was predeceased by her father (1972), her mother (1987), and her sister (1994).

Shirley is much missed by her children, grandchildren and friends but our memories are rich with the fullness of her life. There will be no formal service by request but there will be a wake for her on October 23, 2010 at 1:00 at 993 Canongate Cres. Kamloops, B.C.

Shirley received excellent, compassionate care from the staff of Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House. Donations in her memory may be made to the Kamloops Hospice Association in lieu of flowers.
