Eugene Ternes (Grumpy)
February 17, 1938 – September 13, 2009

Gene “Grumpy” Ternes passed away suddenly at his home in Kamloops, B.C. on Sunday, September 13, 2009.

Gene will be lovingly remembered by his family; son Terry (Theresa) Ternes; daughter Shelley (Mark) Poulsen; son-in-law Mike Petrie; precious grandchildren Richard Petrie; Kristy, Shane & Jake Poulsen; Lindsay & Tiffany Ternes. He will also be missed by his special friend Fern Jardine, his long time friends from Alberta and many friends from RCL#52, Moose Hall, KG&CC, and Dirty Jersey.

Grandpa is not alone in his journey to a new life, he will be embraced by those who left before him; his beautiful wife Joan; loving daughter & grandson Laurie & Kenneth Eugene Petrie and his mother and father, Irene & Ike.

Gene was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on February 17, 1938. He loved sports his entire life, though earning his college scholarship, where he studied accounting, through basketball, his passions were baseball, hockey, and golf. Not only did he play at the highest levels, but coached and refereed bantam and junior hockey and coached major men’s and women’s baseball in Calgary and Edmonton. He was involved with Scouts and PTAs in his children’s schools and communities. Gene golfed every morning before going to work at U.G.G in Winnipeg and bowled in the evenings. After bringing his family to beautiful British Columbia, to set up his own accounting practice, he became very active with the RCL and Moose Hall. Where he not only managed but loved to dance and play the meat draws. He had fond memories of his days at KG&CC which he retired from in order to care for his youngest grandchild, Jake. At this time he became a professional armchair athlete and a Wheel of Fortune expert.

Please, God, forgive a silent tear,
A fervent wish our Grandpa was here,
There are others, yes we know,
But he was ours, we loved him so,
Dear God, take a message to our father in heaven above,
Tell him how much we miss him,
And give him all our love.

Friends and family are invited to a Graveside Service that will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009 in Hillside Cemetery, 750 Notre Dame.
