Richard "Colin" Mills
December 3, 1931 to December 18, 2007

On the morning of December 18, 2007, husband, father, grandfather and friend, Colin Mills, passed away at the age of 76 years. He leaves us to join his father, Richard, his mother May, his sisters Kay and Muriel, his brother Tom and his grandson, Joshua.

Colin leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Vera; their three children Janet Salvino (Jack) of Kelowna, Bill Mills (Sharon) of Kamloops, Joan Guido (Peter) of Kamloops, five granddaughters, Jacqueline and Kathleen Salvino of Kelowna, Regina and Gracie Bauchman of Kamloops, Tessa Guido of Kamloops, three grandsons, Nathan and Nick Guido of Kamloops and Bill Salvino of Vancouver, and one great grandson, Anthony Salvino.

Colin was born in Simpson, Sask. in 1931, and never forgot his prairie roots. He was an active member of the community. During his time in northern B.C., he served as school trustee for School District 60, Treasurer of the Fort St John Centennial Committee, Director of the Insurance Agent's Association of B.C., Manager of the Credit Bureau, and a member of the Lions Club. Colin was a successful businessman as co-owner of Mills, Barton & Co. in Fort St. John and owner of R.C. Mills Agencies in Osoyoos. Colin moved to Kamloops in 1974. Here he spent the next 20 years continuing his real estate career. He also had the priviledge to serve his province as Executive Assistant to then MLA Rafe Mair.

Upon Colin's retirement in 1996, he bought his first computer and spent his retirement years studying geneology. The contacts Colin made through his research and time spent online were a great source of joy for him. Colin loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and Vera travelled extensively across North America in their fifth wheel trailer.

The family wishes to express their thanks to the students and staff of Westmount Elementary School and the paramedics for their efforts.

Colin will be greatly missed by his family.

A celebration of his life will be held on December 29 at 1:00 p.m. at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy are requested to take the form of donations to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation, 311 Columbia Street, Kamloops, B.C. V2C 2T1.

Dr. David Stewart
June 17, 1955 - August 22, 2010

We regret to announce the sudden passing of Dr. David Stewart on August 22, 2010. David was predeceased by his father Frank Stewart and is survived by his wife Nancy (nee Davies), daughters Allison and Lindsay, his mother Doreen Stewart, sister Fran (George) Campbell, and brothers George (Lori) and Keith (Jennifer). His sisters in-law Lori Davies & Carolyn Gavriel and mother in-law Faye Davies also grieve his loss as does one of his favorite companions, his dog Lindo. Nieces and nephews Andrew & Giorsa Campbell, Frank, George & Wilson Stewart and Alexei Gavriel will also greatly miss “Uncle David”, as will his surviving aunts and uncles.

David was born on June 17, 1955 in Kamloops and graduated from Kamloops Secondary School in 1973. He attended UBC for his undergraduate and medical degrees, returning home to Kamloops with his wife Nancy to practice Urology in 1988.

David was a dedicated professional who gave his all for the patients in his care. Long hours left little time for leisure, but David savoured every minute of his free time, developing exceptional skills as a wildlife photographer. Cooking was another passion and many benefited from his culinary expertise. David was passionate about many topics, with a special interest in the history of Kamloops, and displayed an astonishing memory for detail. He cared deeply for his family and some of his favorite memories included a trip to Scotland with his mother Doreen and niece Giorsa in 2006, followed by a subsequent trip last year to Scotland with his wife and daughters. David loved to share his delights and interests with others, frequently phoning friends and family members with a joke or humorous anecdote. Doctors and nurses in the O.R. will also remember him for his humour and his professional intensity.

The family extends their sincere thank-you to the nurses and doctors in Emergency and 7 North for their excellent care and extraordinary efforts during David’s last hours.

Following his sudden passing, a private family service was held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cathedral, Kamloops BC and David was laid to rest in the Pleasant Street Cemetery, near his grandparents and father and close to his childhood home, a neighbourhood that was very special to him.

The family would like to thank the many friends, colleagues, patients and acquaintances who have expressed their condolences and offered support. David touched many lives in many different ways, and the enormous outpouring from the community of grief, sorrow and sympathy, along with words of comfort and offers of assistance, has been truly amazing and much appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kamloops Foundation, P.O. Box 15, Kamloops B.C., V2C 5K3 in David’s name where a legacy fund will be established to support R.I.H. Foundation and Ducks Unlimited.
