Erwin Emig passed away on January 29, 2009 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 90 years.
Erwin was born on September 2, 1918 to parents Iloisia and Jakob Emig in Mannheim, Germany. In 1954, Erwin lived and worked in Calgary, AB. In 1969 Erwin moved to the Wynndel area where he resided until his passing. He had a passion for gardening.
Erwin was predeceased by his wife Lilli Emig on April 30, 2004. He will be lovingly remembered by his son Manfred Emig, granddaughter Susan Prus and great granddaughter Jolayne Prus.
A Funeral Service will be held at a later date.
Sommerfeldt, Ferdinand (Dick Sr.)
Ferdinand Richard (Dick Sr.) Sommerfeld passed away on January 24, 2009 in Yahk, BC, where he has resided for the past 39 years, at the age of 91 years.
Ferdinand was born on November 29, 1917 to Ferdinand August Karl and Bertha Wilhelmine Friedericke (Manske) Sommerfeldt, at his parentís home in Whisky Gap, AB, 17 miles south of Cardston. He was the youngest of 12 children, all deceased. Ferdinand was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Rhoda Beth (May) who died May 21, 2008. He married his beloved wife in the Alberta Temple on Friday January 13, 1939. He attended school in Cardston.
Ferdinand loved farming and ranching where he broke horses, worked the soil, and raised sheep, cows and horses. He also worked on the CPR section crew at Whisky Gap, worked in the timber industry, was a truck driver for Dench of Canada, and was involved in other business enterprises with his sons. He moved to Cranbrook in 1961 where he ranched until moving to Yahk in 1970.
Ferdinand served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Branch President, in a Bishopric, District Presidency and spent much of his time with the youth as Scoutmaster and coaching basketball and softball. He enjoyed music and played the guitar, banjo, piano and drums (in his early years was in a band) and was often to be heard to be heard singing around the home or in the car with the family.
Ferdinand is survived by four children, Richard (Dick Jr.) (Pauline), of Yahk, BC, Daniel (Shirley) of Raymond, AB, Patricia (Ken) Tanner of Whitehorse, YT and Donald (Melanie) of Yahk, BC as well at 19 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Stake House, 338 5th Ave East, Cardston, AB on Saturday January 31, 2009 at 12:00 p.m. with Bishop Darryl Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family at the Church between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral. Interment will follow at the Cardston Cemetery.

Betty Elaine Garden (nee Taylor) passed away on January 19, 2009 at the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 86 years.
Betty was born in Spokane, WA on January 4, 1923. She had lived in Louisiana, Pennsylvania, California and moved to Tofino, BC in 1987 where she resided for 18 years. Betty moved with her daughter Linda & Gary to Creston in November 2005.
Betty was predeceased by her husband George Garden and sister Beverley Thompson. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Linda (Gary) Richards and Dianna Vraney, sons Mike and Mark Vraney, as well as grandchildren Lily, Anna, Mark, and Danielle Vraney.
A Tea Service was held on Friday January 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Crestview Care Village.

Glenn Leslie Lansing passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Creston Valley Hospital on March 16, 2009 at the age of 54 years.
Glenn was born on October 5, 1954 in Creston, BC to parents Donald and Emma Lansing. Glenn enjoyed spending time with Jen at Cresteramics and was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Creston. He loved music, dancing, fishing and spending time with his family. Glenn was known as a ďgentle giantĒ whose heart was as big as he was.
Glenn was predeceased by his mother Emma Lansing, and grandparents Augusta & Steve Foraie and Lawrence & Louise Lansing. He will be dearly missed by his father Donald Lansing, sisters Gloria (Ron) Messenchuck, and Marla (Ray) Moon, brother Larry (Jane) Lansing as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service was held on Friday March 20, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Francis de la Cruz celebrant. Interment followed at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, BC.

Sullivan, Muriel Frances
Muriel Frances Sullivan (nee Kyle) passed away after a lengthy illness in the Creston Valley Hospital on March 15, 2009 at the age of 83 years.
Muriel was born on December 31, 1925 in Weyburn, SK to parents William and Frances Kyle. She married Nelson Sullivan in 1954 and they shared over 53 years of life together. Muriel never hesitated to put her own needs aside for others. As well as being a wife and mother to seven children, she returned to college and earned an honour degree in Business Administration; and worked in the accounting field until her retirement. In early years, Muriel enjoyed curling, playing the piano, trombone, French horn, and was actively involved in her Church. Later, activities grew around her family including ceramics, gardening, fishing and board games.
Muriel was predeceased by her father William Kyle, mother Frances Kyle, brother Irvin Kyle, sister Caroline Kyle, and granddaughter Haley Sullivan. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Nelson Sullivan of Creston, BC, her daughter Doreen Visser of Raymond, AB, son Dan (Valerie) Sullivan of Lethbridge, AB, daughter Linda Daw of Clairmont, AB, son David (Colleen) Sullivan of Hardisty, AB, daughter Peggy Stanley of Chemainus, BC, son Lorne (Shauna) Sullivan of Lethbridge, AB and Colleen (Mark) Thompson of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service was held on Saturday March 21, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Erickson Evangelical Covenant Church with Pastor Doug Stapleton officiating.

Dora Androshak (nee Olynyk) passed away after a lengthy illness at the Creston Valley Hospital on March 13, 2009 at the age of 81 years.
Dora was born on February 27, 1928 in Kaleland, AB to parents William and Alexandria Olynyk. She married Peter Androshak in 1950 in Creston, BC. Dora was a member of the Lutheran Church and the Kootenay Aerie Eagles #3027. She enjoyed playing baseball as a young girl and in later years enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, canning and cooking. She loved spending time with family and going for coffee with her friends.
Dora was predeceased by her father William Olynyk, mother Alexandria Olynyk, brother Pete Olynyk, husband Peter Androshak, and son Gerald Androshak. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Lawrence (Maxine) Androshak of Canyon, BC, daughter Judy (Cliff) Bjarnason of Elkford, BC, grandchildren Shawn Androshak of Creston, Tyler Bjarnason of Lethbridge, AB, Cory Bjarnason of Lethbridge, AB, great grandchildren Gage Androshak, Declan Androshak, Victoria Androshak all of Creston, BC, sister Mary (John) Gared of Vagerville, AB, sister Vera (Ernie) Carlson of Marysville, BC, brother Nick Olynyk of Coleman, AB, brother Alex Olynyk of Calgary, AB, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bertha Shean passed away peacefully on March 4, 2009 at her residence in the Crestview Care Village at the age of 93 years.
Bertha was born in Radisson Saskatchewan on the family farm, on May 11, 1915. She came to Creston in the late 1930ís to stay with her step sister Mary and brother-in-law Bill Hurack and began working at the Hotel Creston owned by John Shean. In 1940 her and John were married and made the hotel their home. Together they operated the business until John Sr. started looking at retirement in the late 60ís and John Jr. began to manage the business with his mother Bertha. She maintained an active interest in the business until it was sold in 1996 to the present owner Jimmy Karountzos.
Bertha always had an interest in playing cards, particularly cribbage, and enjoyed tending to her flowers at the hotel and in later years at her house.
In 2004 her health began to deteriorate. In February 2005, due to strokes, she was moved to Hillcrest Extended Care Unit and in May 2008 she moved to the Crestview Care Village, where she passed away.
Bertha was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Nykola and Marcia Petriew, brothers Bill, John, George and baby Michael, step sisters Mary Hurack, Annie Braithwaite and Nellie Goodrich.
Bertha will be dearly missed by her loving son John, sister Dorothy Roberts of Burnaby, brother Norman Petriew of Sparwood and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday March 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., at the G. F. Oliver Funeral Chapel with Father Francis de le Cruz officiating. Interment followed at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, BC

Dereck McLean passed away on March 7, 2009 in the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 70 years.
Dereck was born on August 19, 1938 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan to Vanessa and Roderick McLean. He was the first of his family to graduate from Trail Old Crowe Highschool and he then went on to complete his electrical apprenticeship at Cominco. Dereck was a member of the Creston Golf Club, Royal Canadian Legion. Hobbies in his younger years included skiing, hockey (minor hockey coach), curling, and playing cards, mostly crib. He was very proud of his family and his grandsons brought him much joy.
Dereck was predeceased by his mother Vanessa, father Roderick McLean, step-father Melvin Kiland, twin brother Daryl and infant son Kevin. He will be dearly missed by Lori (Michael) Dunn, grandson Ryan, Jason (Maria) McLean, grandsons Parker and Keaton, sisters Irene Colby, Glenda (Russ) Grycan and brother Neil (Anna) McLean.
A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday March 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating.
