Fellman Alvina

Alvina Fellman – Aug 19, 1923 – January 6, 2011

Alvina Louise Fellman passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord on Thursday, Jan 6, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Born on August 19, 1923 in Hope, North Dakota to Ole & Severina Larson, she was the youngest of five boys and four girls. At the age of 3 the family moved to Saskatchewan where her father purchased a quarter section of land. It was there near Spalding they raised their family. She received her education at Lake Edward, a one room country school. There she met her future husband Vernon Fellman who she married on April 6, 1942 and raised six children, three girls and three boys.

In 1957 Vern & Alvina moved their family to Creston, BC where they lived out the remainder of their lives. While in Creston she was active in the Pentecostal church, teaching Sunday School. She started the Wee College program in 1980 for 4 & 5 yr olds. She taught for 14 years and then continued on as director. She also served as the Women’s Ministries president for several years.

She is remembered and cherished by her 6 children, Elaine Vader of Sherwood Park, AB, Sylvia (George) Williams of Port Alberni, BC, Doug (Janet) Fellman of Castlegar, BC, Orlie (Monica) Fellman and Ellwood (Darlene) Fellman of Osoyoos, BC, and Starla (Lindy) Ek of Creston, BC; Eleven Grandchildren, Shane (Janet) Vader of Sherwood Park, AB, Trevor (Paula) Fellman of Creston, BC, Andrew Fellman of Lethbridge, AB, Susan Fellman (mother of Trevor & Andrew) of Creston BC, Ryan (Deanna) Vader of Edmonton, AB, Brooke (Clay) Molitwenik and Lane Fellman of Castlegar, BC, Tanya Williams of Port Alberni, BC, Lara Williams of Tofino, BC, Jalene Ek and Amber Ek of Calgary, AB, Jacey Fellman of Lethbridge AB, Val Fellman (mother of Jacey) Lethbridge, AB. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren, Korlan & Kaylee Vader, Shayla Leacock, Kaden Fellman, Sydney & Keiya Fellman and Jordan, Megan, Charlie & Brooke Vader; two sisters Lillian Hetland of Watson, SK and Violet (Leslie) Formo of Naicam, SK.

Alvina was predeceased by her husband Vern on February 20, 2010. Also predeceasing her are her parents Ole & Severina Larson, brothers Clarence, Conrad, Sydney, Morris & Melvin, and her sister Selma.

A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, January 14, 2011 at Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church, 2408 Cedar Street, Creston BC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Global Christian Centre Ministries, c/o Rev. K.H. Pennoyer, P.O. Box 1108, Grand Forks, BC, V0H 1H0.

Meunier, Alfred

Alfred L. ( Al ) Meunier passed away peacefully at the Creston Valley Hospital on December 29th, 2010 at the age of 79 years. Al was born to Marie and Henry Meunier at Gadsby, Alberta on January 16th, 1931.

Al married Bernice Engerdahl on October 22, 1955 at Cold Lake, Alberta. He farmed around Minburn and Vegreville, Alberta for 39 years and spent numerous winters surveying in northern Alberta and British Columbia. Bernice and Al retired to Creston in 1996 and he continued to enjoy fishing and hunting. He loved to play the piano and violin with his children and grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents Marie and Henry Meunier. Al will be dearly missed by his loving wife Bernice of 55 years, five children Sharon (Gordon) Bruce of Barrhead Ab; Kathy (Brian) Baltis of Courtenay, B.C; Kerry (Linda) of Whitecourt, Ab; Dwight (Linda) of Lloydminster, Ab; Joann ( Moh) of Calgary, Ab., 11 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren and one brother Gordon (Darlene) of Mannville.

Cremation to take place with a Celebration Of Life Service to be held at a later date. Notices will be posted and can be viewed at

Panton, Kathleen

Kathleen Panton (nee Kanigan) passed away at the age of 52 years on December 27, 2010 at her residence in Creston, BC with her family by her side.

Kathleen was born on March 22, 1958 at Trail, BC to Nellie and Philip Kanigan. She graduated from the Selkirk College Registered Nursing Program in 1979 and married the love of her life, Randy Panton at Castlegar, BC in 1981. Kathleen was employed by Interior Health as an RN at Creston Valley Hospital for many years and then in the Emergency Room at KBRH in Trail. Kathleen took pride in her career as a Specialist RN, displaying absolute dedication with great skill and professionalism that was deeply appreciated by her peers. Some of her hobbies included biking, travelling, sewing, quilting, gardening, hiking, cooking and especially spending time with and taking care of family and friends. She was always happiest when doing things for others.

Kathleen was predeceased by her mother Nellie Kanigan (1967)

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Randy; children Brad (Squamish), Brittney (Calgary) and Shauna (Kelowna); father Philip Kanigan of Kelowna; brothers Philip Kanigan Jr (May Hadikin) of Castlegar and Steven Kanigan (Lorraine) of South Slocan, sister Larisa Buis (Drew) of Clinton, BC and many colleagues and friends.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at a later date. Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution in Kathleen’s name may do so to the KBRH Health Foundation, 1200 Hospital Bench, Trail, BC V1R 4M1 or to a Memorial Bursary that is being planned at Selkirk College for a student enrolled in the Registered Nursing Program. Further information about the bursary will be forth coming.

Esquiro, George

George Salvador Esquiro passed away on December 12, 2010 in Creston, BC at the age of 85 years. George was born in Juneau, Alaska on September 7, 1925 and received his education at Lejak School.

George lived in Atlin, BC, Prince George, BC and eventually moved to Creston, BC in 1974. He worked as a junior foreman for the Department of Highway and retired in 1986, as a senior foremen, after 33 years of dedicated service.

George was separated from his brother and sister at the age of five and was finally reunited after his younger brother Pete searched for him and his sister Jean. George was taken to a boarding school in Atlin BC, while his brother was placed in Alaska and his younger sister was relocated to California. He enjoyed travelling to and from the Yukon and California throughout his life and spent many happy days camping, hunting and fishing. Family was at the heart of his all endeavors. Among the many things George taught his children were the value of hard work, integrity and the enjoyment of camping. George was also a member of Elks for many years.

George was predeceased by his brother Pete Esquiro; stepson John Edzerza; grandsons Ryan Gilmour and Cory Jack and great granddaughter Dalilia Gilmour-Sparling.

George will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Lillian; children Bernie (Norm) Taylor, George Esquiro Jr., Tom Jack, Jenny Jack, Mary Ann (Don) Richard, Ken (Felicity) Edzerza, Grace (Shane) Gilmour, Theresa (Jody) Montpellier and Cindy Esquiro.

A Memorial Service was held on December 17, 2010 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Creston at 2:00 pm. with Father Tom Kakkaniyil officiating.

Anderson, Brian M.

It is with profound sorrow the family of Brian Anderson would like to announce his sudden passing at his home on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the age of 52 years.

Brian was born on September 19, 1958 in Nelson, BC to Shirley and Garry Anderson and was the eldest of five children. Brian attended school in Salmo, Wynndel and Creston.

Brian married Vicki Woykin on June 23, 1979, and the couple celebrated 31 years of happy marriage. They lived in Creston, moving to Castlegar for a short time and returning to Creston to raise their two boys, Michael (26) and Mark (21). Brian started working at a young age at numerous jobs. He later found his passion and began his career as a truck driver. He had a lengthy career with Columbia Brewery in Creston delivering beer around the Kootenays. Brian was a hardworking, dedicated, family man, who loved to laugh, helped others, and was loved by many. Brian always gave his best and his life was an inspiration. Brian’s hobbies included fishing and boating on Kootenay Lake, bonfires, his Harley Davidson motorcycle, going to the Casino, watching the business market, looking for entrepreneurial opportunities, and watching his favorite hockey team, the Vancouver Canucks. The most important part of Brian’s life was and will always be his family.

He was predeceased by his father Garry Anderson. He will lovingly be remembered and survived by his wife Vicki, sons Michael and Mark, mother Shirley Anderson, grandparents Olive and Michael Schulz, sister Donna (Tom) Dobko, brothers Keith (Carol), Darrell, Ken (Sherry), nieces Kayla, Ashley, Brooke, Lisa, nephews Sam, Brock, Brett, Robert, Joseph, mother-in-law Mabel Bonderove, brother-in-law Bob (Shannon) Woykin, along with numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins, together with special close friends who are like family. Honourary Pallbearers are all of Brian’s Family & Friends who will miss him dearly.

Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday December 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating, fellowship and refreshments at the Creston Valley Curling Club served by the Redeemer Lutheran Ladies.

Cremation and A Private Family Entombment of Ashes held at Bella Columbarium in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, BC.

Elliott, Frieda

Frieda Elliott (nee Bergmann) passed away June 3, 2011 at the Swan Valley Lodge in Creston, BC at the age of 85 years.

Frieda was born on November 6, 1925 in Saskatoon, SK. She moved to Nelson, BC, where she received her education. On July 10, 1946, she married Edward Elliott.

Frieda enjoyed sewing, gardening, painting, calligraphy, golfing and listening to music. She was also a member of the Sketch Club.

Frieda was predeceased by her sisters Elsie, Tony and Angela.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Edward Elliott of Creston; sons Wayne (Jan) of Kimberley and Don of Wetaskawin; grandchildren Erin (Colin) Harrison of Kimberley, Jessica Elliott of Nelson, Jeremy (Debbie) Elliott of Port Alberni and Jakob (Sue) Elliott of Airdrie; great grandchildren Zion Elliott of Nelson, Harley and Eddie Lee Elliott of Port Alberni and Justin and Tyson Elliott of Airdrie; and sisters Irene Bergmann, Ann Sherlock and Betty Millar.
