Mr. Arthur "Art" Wilfred Hodgkinson
September 06, 1932 - June 21, 2004
Funeral arrangements by
Richmond Funeral Home

Left us unxpectedly on June 21st at Richmond Hospital after a courageous month long recovery from surgery and a 35 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, with never a complaint and an ever present smile.

Born in Ottawa, in 1932, Art served for 20 years in the Canadian Armed Foreces, primarily based in Jericho Beach, Vancouver, during which he proudly served in Germany and a year of duty in the Middle East with the United Nations Peace Keeping Forces.

He then settled in Richmond and enjoyed working many years for Pacific Western Airlines and Okanagan Helicopters.

For the past 10 years he lived in Richmond Lions Manor in Steveston.

Art enjoyed a mean crib game, and a visit over a cold beer, football, hockey, and was a beautiful swimmer. A religious man, he loved hymns, and lived his life with integrity, respect for others and kindess. He was always known as a nice guy. He is now with God.

He is remembered by his son, Ron (Shirley) Hodgkinson, of Delta, B.C.; daughter Louise Gill (Rick) of Courntenay, B.C.; his sisters, Helen McGahey, Elsie-Ann Stewart, Nora Vargo; his sister-in-law Jean Hodgkinson; his grandchildren, Kevin, Craig & Brent Hodgkinson and Daniel, Madelyn, and Alyson Gill; and his long time dear friend Betty Leathem.

The family and Art would like to thank Dr. Hurwitz, the dedicated staff of the UBC hospital M.S. clinic, Richmond Health Unit, and Richmond Hospital for their care over the years and the Steveston Army and Navy Legion Club, for their friendship.

A very special thank you to Dr. Frimer and the fabulous doctors, nurses and staff of the Richmond Hospital ICU. You never gave up. Words can't express the gratitude for the staff and Reverend Jackie at Richmond Lions Manor for the years of caring, understanding and comfort.

God saw you were getting tired
And the cure was not to be
So He wrapped you in His loving arms
And whispered, "Come with Me."
You suffered much in silence,
Your spirit did not bend,
You faced your pain with courage
Until the very end.
You tried so hard to stay with us,
Your fight was not in vain ~
God took you in His loving arms
And saved you from all pain.

"You will never be forgotten."
