VOLMAN Frieda, passed away peacefully on Sunday June 13, 2004 in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. She is predeceased by her partner Peter Peulen September 1995 her best friends Joan Peulen on May 3, 2004, Frank Peulen in September 1985. She will be sadly missed by; Marian, Ann, Nancy, Henry and their familes. Also numerous relatives in Holland, and close friend Robert Hymers and family. Private family cremation. A memorial tea will be held at 2:00pm at 235 Lodgepole Drive Parksville on Friday June 18, 2004 all friends are welcome. Sands-Nanaimo

Born June 19, 1945. Died suddenly March 26, 2004. Predeceased by his parents; father William Deakin Wadsworth and mother Mary Ellen Wadsworth. Survived by his daughter Shannon (Marc) Streifling, son Sean and daughters Lauren and Charlene; sister Ann (Harry) Vossberg, brother Craig (Trudi) Wadsworth, and sister Susan (Dennis) Leslie. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his friends Zena, Sonja, Charles Roland and especially his friend Bill Woolam. He has slipped away to follow his star In a land beyond our sight And we know he journeys there as here In God's own bright light A Celebration of Life will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cancer Society or C.N.I.B.

Alvin Knutsen
April 12, 1931 - July 23, 2004

KNUTSEN Alvin, born in Karmoy Norway in 1931, passed away suddenly in Victoria General Hospital on July 23, 2004. Predeceased by his parents and by daughter Inger-Lise in 1976. Alvin is survived by his loving wife Astri and daughters; Laila Knutsen. Linda Knutsen and her husband Ken, grandchildren Freya and husband Denton, Geoffrey (Manny), Kirsten, Karina, Sister Henny Ebbett and Husband Tom. Brother Hjalmar Knutsen, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Norway. A special thanks to the Ambulance Service and the Emergency Ward at Nanaimo Hospital and ICU at Victoria General Hospital. A private family cremation, no flowers by request. Alvin will be laid to rest next to his daughter in the family plot in North Vancouver Cemetery. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

William Joesph Whittingham

WHITTINGHAM, William Joesph passed away peacefully at home on July 20, 2004 surrounded by his loving family. Born May 8, 1931 in Regina Saskatchewan. Predeceased by parents John and Mildred Whittingham. Survived by; wife Frances, son Kenneth (Natalia), daughters Diane (Carl), Janice (Mike) and grandchildren: Thomas, Richard, Jay, Gage, Cole, Liza and Christopher. He was 23 years in the Arm Forces and 23 years worked at Harmac. No service at Bill’s request, in lieu of flowers donations in Bills name to a charity of your choice. A celebration of life to be held at a later date.

HATCH, Alva Irene, passed away Saturday July 17, 2004 in Dufferin Place, Nanaimo, BC. Survived by her husband William Darrell Hatch, daughters Roberta Hatch, Bev Day, sons Murray (Cathy), Cliff Humberstone ten grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, nieces, nephew and two sisters in law Marg and Stella Allen. We would like to send our appreciation to all the lovely staff at Dufferin Place in Arbutus Unit for all the loving care and time they spent with Alva, along with special thanks to Dr. White and Dr. Benton Foster and retired Dr. Beniot. Flowers may be sent to #3 1350 Timberlands Road, Ladysmith V9G 1L5 or donation are accepted to the Heart House in Victoria for Heart and Stroke.

Mercer, Gwendolyn A. born September 30, 1926 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully into the presence of her Lord July 23, 2004 in Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC. She will be greatly missed and remembered always by her loving husband Maurie, her only brother Mac Brockman; her five children, Meredith (David), Roxanne (Earl), April-Jewell (Richard), Faith (Ron) and Garth; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Friday, July 30, 2004 at 2:00 pm at White Rock Christian Fellowship Church 2265 – 152 Street, Surrey. In lieu of flowers, Gwen would appreciate donations sent to World Vision Canada.

Doris Yoshiye Gyba (née Suga)
November 07, 1937 - July 20, 2004

Peacefully, on the morning of Tuesday, July 20th, 2004, Doris Gyba passed away in her sleep following a lengthy fight with cancer.

Doris was born November 7, 1937, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She later moved to Winnipeg where she met her husband Henry Gyba, and raised their two sons Ryan and Robert. Her chosen profession was in the field of insurance where she had amassed over 30 years of experience. Doris was an ample source of support and was always available when advice was needed. She enjoyed reading and talking with friends. She had a great love for the animals in her life including her two dogs Popcorn and Buddy. It was a rare occurrence not to have them by her side.

Doris is survived by her sons and their partners Janelle and Linda, and sister Anne (husband Bert Backeland, children Regan and Jeffery). She was predeceased by her husband, and her parents Yoshio and Fumiko Suga. Doris will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

According to Doris' wishes a cremation has taken place and a small family gathering was held on Saturday, July 24th. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doris' memory may be made to : The Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2L 1X3; or The Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7

Gordon "Al" O.E. Fulford
April 01, 1925 - June 11, 2004

Al passed away peacefully at home, after a wonderful day with family and friends. A loving husband, father, son and brother, he will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Madolyn, his five children; Jan, Barry (Elzunia), Sherry (Merv), Wendy, Wayne (Wendy), eleven grandchildren: Michael, Chris, Cheryl, Julia, Jacqui, Nikki, Kristi, Karli, Keith, Nathan and Kaitlyn, two great grandchildren: Dylan and Amber, sister Lorna (Les), extended family and many friends.

Al joined the Air Cadets at a very young age and joined the army during WWII, where he met the love of his life, Madolyn. He moved on to the RCAF where he served for 25 years, working his way through the ranks to retire as a Captain. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Rotary Club. After retirement, he continued to participate actively and donated his time generously. Al believed in giving back to his community.

Al had a great sense of humour and will be remembered by those who knew him for his practical jokes and fun-loving outlook. Above all else he loved his family and large family gatherings. Al enjoyed building model airplanes, playing cards, bowling, curling and horseshoes. He was an avid fisherman throughout his life. In later years, he enjoyed several fantastic trips with his sons and friends. He has touched the hearts of many.

The family wishes to thank everyone for their kindness and support. Donations in memory of Al may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
