NIESCZERI, Erich, born May 22, 1921, in Bucharest, died February 19, 2004 in Duncan, BC.

He will be sadly missed by his wife Ursula, children; Marion, Karin, Patricia, and Axel, his grandchildren; Nikolaus, Natalie, Erica, Douglas, Andrea, Stefanie, Alexander, and Jonathan.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the palliative care unit at the Cowichan District Hospital, and the members of the Duncan Hospice Society.

A family gathering will be held at a later date.

Mr. Paul Mahara

After a long battle with multiple chronic illnesses, Paul Mahara passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved him.

Paul leaves to mourn him, his devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Gwyn; his seven children, Ken (Lynn Jarvis), Dawn, Dale, Star (Martin Gerstmar), Mark (Andrea), Paula (Mark Solari), Pat (Christine), and six fabulous grandchildren (John-Paul and Rheanne Lancaster; David and Dana Solari; and Natalie and Liam Mahara); his nephew Harold (Marian) and grand nieces Andrianna and Mandy, as well as many friends and acquaintances, particularly those from the Richmond and Bellingham Golf and Country Clubs.

Born January 7th, 1922 in Winnipeg, Paul grew up in Farlane, Ontario, where he hunted and fished with his brother Andy and worked as a guide outfitter.

Family and friends will alwasy remember Paul as an accomplished accordion player, having his own bands in Winnipeg and Vancouver and entertaining at countless parties and sing-a-longs.

Paul started Mahara Electric in 1958, and he worked hard for 40 years setting the foundation for what has become the highly successful electric motor repair business

He was also an accomplished athlete who succeeded as an amateur boxing champion with the Stock Exchange; played Junior hockey with the Trail Smoke Eaters, Semi-pro with Oakland, and had a try out with the New York Rangers.

Paul was a keen supporter of youth athletics. He volunteered for several years in minor baseball, umpiring Little League at Little Mountain.

In addition, he coached All Star Hockey for ten years at the PNE and never had a losing season.

In later years, his passion was golfing. He spent many hours honing his golfing skills. Over the years he wond many tournaments and was proud of his four holes-in-one.

The family wishes to thank the competent and caring staff at Richmond Hospital, who provided exemplary care, with special thanks to Drs. Frey and Dirnfeld, for their extraoridinary efforts.

Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Church (Richmond) Friday March 19th at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetic Association would be greatly appreciated.

Mrs. Rose Marie Halifax (née Hryciuk)
September 03, 1932 - March 13, 2004

Born September 3rd, 1932 in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan and passed away on Saturday, March 13th, 2004 in the Richmond Hospital. She was a long-time resident of Richmond.

Predeceased by her son James and survived by her loving family, husband Jack; son David and daughter-in-law Nancy; daughter Lynn; 3 grandchildren Dana, Mac and Graeme; brother Bill and sister Helen.

A Memorial Service to be held in the Chapel of the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road, on Saturday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Mr. Herman Joseph Mayea
January 23, 1916 - March 12, 2004

Mayea: Herman Joseph passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital on Friday, March 12, 2004 at the age of 88.

Herman was born in Duncan, BC on January 23, 1916. Predeceased by his three brothers Albert, Walter, Ernie and nephew Clarence.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Rose; daughter Rose (Robert); sons Bill (Darlene), Jeff (Judy), Ken (Debora) and Bob (Vicky); 17 grandchildren; 22 great- grandchildren; many nephews and nieces; friends and fishing buddies.

Herman fought in the Second World War in England where he met and married Rose, bringing her back to Canada. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53.

Herman was an avid fisherman, fishing the narrows and Porlier Pass in a small aluminum boat.

He was a fishing guide for many years taking numerous celebrities down the river to catch the big one.

His grandchildren enjoyed the many fishing stories he told about the big one that got away!

A Memorial Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53, 575 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC on Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. with a tea to follow.

Flowers gratefully declined.

Mrs. Tryntje "Tracy" Renema (née De Jong)
October 19, 1916 - March 15, 2004

Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Renema, Tryntje (Tracy) bravely ended her earthly journey on Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Chemainus Health Care Centre at the age of 87.

She was surrounded by her loving family and care aids.

She is now with her Lord and Savior where there is no crying or pain for the old order of things has passed away (Rev 21:4)

Tracy was a caring and loving mom who did her best in raising her family.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting blankets, singing in the choir, shopping and cooking great meals.

Tracy’s family wishes to give their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Chemainus Health Care Centre for their patient and compassionate care for mom for the past 8 years.

We were truly touched by your genuine love for mom and how you treated her as family.

Mom, will always be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Andy & Ann Renema (Duncan); daughter Wiepe & John Witteveen (London, Ontario); son Raymond & Kathleen Renema (Nanaimo); daughter Dorothy & Johan Wikkerink (Cowichan Bay); daughter Agnes & Peter Tjcpkema (Abbotsford).

She was predeceased by her husband, one son and one granddaughter.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2004 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Sands Funeral Chapel, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC.

Tracy’s Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church, 930 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC.

Thank you for being the best mom. God be with you till we meet again.

Mrs. Donna Miller (née Ash)
March 02, 1943 - March 15, 2004

Miller: Donna-passed away suddenly following a brief illness at the Victoria General Hospital on Monday, March 15, 2004.

Born in Victoria, BC on March 2, 1943.

Predeceased by her beloved Sherwin (2002).

Lovingly remembered by her daughter Corrine (Phil); brother-in-law Barry; sister-in-law Ethel (Neil) Nesbitt; numerous relatives back East, as well as her friends in Duncan.

Donna has had many careers working at Eatons, Miller’s Catering and Inkspot Bingo.

She touched the loves of many people in the Valley with her Motherly ways, infectious smile and her big heart.

Donna will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff, especially Rick at the Victoria General Hospital.

A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at the Duncan Elks Home, 149 Station Street, Duncan, BC on Sunday, March 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.

Flowers gratefully declined.

Memorial remembrances may be made to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children.
