Jan. 30, 2004, Peter Enns, age 78 years, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, at Bethesda Place in Steinbach, Man.
He is survived by his beloved wife Elvira (nee Pankratz); three sons: Charles (Karen), Garnet (Patricia), Elwood (Karen); grandchildren, Kurtis and Tiffany, Patrick, Matthew, Daniel, Tyler and Katrina Enns.
The funeral service for Peter Enns was held Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, 11 a.m., at the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church.
The family wishes to thank Bethesda Place staff, nurses, doctors and Chaplain Larry Hirst for the loving care given to their father.

LILLIAN RENTZ SCHMIDTKE
1915 - 2004
Peacefully on Jan. 28, 2004 Lillian Rentz Schmidtke passed away at the age of 88 at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, Man.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons: Cameron (Marie) Rentz of Edmonton, Alta. and their children: Eleine (Rick) Cormier, Allan Rentz (Cheryl), Darryl (Bonnie) Rentz, Patrick Rentz. Son Bob (Margaret) Rentz and their children: Sandra Rentz, Brenda (Denis) Normandeau, Sharon (Marc) Fontaine. Son-in-law Stan Pestrak with sons: Troy (Sandy), Trent (Dodi). Nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Step Family - Darlene Schmidtke Turner and Chris Turner and their children: Charlene (Don) Freund, Dorinda (Mike) Penner; Irene Schmidtke and her children: Lisa (Dennis) Friesen, Kara Schmidtke and fiancée Keith Janzen; Cliff (Bev) Schmidtke and their children: Lee Schmidtke, Tiffany Schmidtke and friend Keith Broesky. Five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister Judy (Archie) Trapp of Selkirk.
Predeceased by: first husband Louis Rentz Jan. 23, 1970, second husband August Schmidtke Nov. 25, 1980, daughter Ruby Pestrak Oct. 5, 1997; parents Fredrick and Caroline Freund; four brothers and four sisters; stepsons Gerry Schmidtke and Alan Schmidtke.
Lillian was born Nov. 7, 1915 at Friedensfeld, Man. Baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Friedensfeld. She was Confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Friedensfeld on May 11, 1930 by Pastor Salemka. Lillian was married to Louis Rentz in 1935 and to August Schmidtke in 1974.
They farmed in Kerry District until 1951 and then moved to Steinbach. In May of 1974 Lillian married August Schmidtke. Lillian worked in the sewing factory, loved gardening and sang in St. Paul Lutheran Church German Choir for many years. Lillian moved to Fernwood, where she made her home for many years, and then moved to Bethesda Personal Care and spent her last years at Bethesda Place.
The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of Bethesda Place and Pastor Maier for their years of care.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 at the St Paul Lutheran Church, Steinbach, Man., at 10:30 a.m. Interment followed at St Paul Lutheran Cemetery (Andres). Officiating Pastor Al Maier. Viewing was held Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004 at Loewen Funeral Chapel from 7 to 8 p.m., followed with a devotional.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethesda Place and the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

HERMANCE GRANGER (nee Gauthier)
It is with our deepest love and saddened hearts that the family announces the passing of Hermance on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Hermance was predeceased by her father Elas (1972); her mother Irma (2002); and two brothers, Oscar (1944) and Maurice (2001).
Leaving to cherish her memory is her loving husband Jean; her daughter Yolande (Aimé Tétrault); her son Raynald (Shantelle); her seven grandchildren, Rémi, Mélanie (Jacques Gagnon), Valérie, Charles, Nadine, Krystal and Victoria; and one great-grandchild, Bailey. She will also be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Léonie (Louis Granger), Éliane (Denis Nadeau), Jeannette (Alfred Champagne) and Anita (Roger Poiron); her brothers, Roméo (Jean), Aimé (Lucie), Roland (Monique) and Adelard (Hermine); her sister-in-law Thérèse; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Hermance was raised and lived all her life in La Broqueire, Man., where she took great pride in her French Canadian heritage. She worked for many years at École Saint-Joachim as a library technician. Her love for children was obvious by the way she would help the students. It was for this same reason that Hermance devoted many years of her life to the Girl Guides. Her love of life and nature touched many lives.
Hermance was a strong willed person and a hard worker with good organizational skills. Through the years, she was active in many committees and organizations too numerous to mention. She enjoyed reading a good book, camping with her family, traveling with friends, and bird watching through her window. After her retirement, she enjoyed working on family genealogies and family history.
But most of all, what Hermance cherished the most was her family and her friends. With her insight, her wit and understanding, she would always have good advice to pass on to her children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were an important and joyous part of her life. She also enjoyed special occasions where family and friends would meet. Her "joie de vivre" could be felt and seen by everyone around her.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. C. Krahn, the caring nurses and staff at Bethesda Hospital; to the wonderful caregivers who came at the residence; and to the family and friends for their love and support.

Prayers will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 5 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7 at St. Joachim Roman Catholic Church in La Broquerie, Man., with Msgr. Albert Fréchette officiating.

KATHERINE WIENS
Katherine Wiens, 61, of Steinbach, Man., passed away at St. Boniface Hospital early Monday morning, Feb. 2, 2004.
She was predeceased by two sons, Frank and Eldon, and is survived by her husband Eldon and son Mark. She is also survived by five brothers, Jake (Katy), Ike (Susan), Peter, Abe (Suzanne) and Dave; and two sisters, Annie and Betty (Wally). She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Thursday, Feb. 5, 7 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, Friday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.
Donations in her memory may be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or to The Canadian Diabetes Association.

HELEN REIMER
Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004 Helen Reimer of Lions Place, Winnipeg, Man. passed away peacefully at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., at the age of 84, after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her brothers, Henry (Lydia) and John (Pauline), as well as nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment at Memorial Cemetery, Steinbach.

MORRIS (MAURICE) REKUNYK
Morris Rekunyk passed away peacefully at the Vita and District Health Centre, Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004, at the age of 71 years. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Ann Rekunyk, Olga Bauer and Mary Kadyniuk.
Morris was born Dec. 18, 1932 in Stuartburn, Man., and attended school there. He farmed with his father John in Stuartburn. Father passed away in 1974 and the farm was sold in 1975. Morris later moved with his mother to a small cottage in Stuartburn. The family thanks Morris for taking very good care of Mother and Father during their senior years.
Morris was predeceased by his parents, John in 1974, Katherine in 1979; three brothers, Michael in 1976, Peter in 1977 and William in 1990.
He was a very good and kind person, who will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Trollip, the caring nurses and staff at the Vita and District Health Centre for the wonderful care they provided for our brother Morris.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, 10:30 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Parish, Stuartburn, with Rev. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. Interment took place in the parish cemetery.

ELIZABETH (LISA) PENNER
Peacefully, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, Elizabeth (Lisa) C.L. Penner of Blumenort, Man. passed away at the age of 87 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man. after a brief struggle with cancer.
She will be missed and lovingly remembered by numerous nephews and nieces to whom she was like a 'mom' and by two sisters-in-law, Mary (Peter C.L.) Penner and Martha (Abram C.L.) Penner. She was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Cornelius and Gertrude Penner; stepmother Sara Penner; siblings, Margaret (Cornelius J.) Thiessen, Gertrude (Peter D.) Friesen, Peter C.L. Penner, Abram C.L. Penner, Bernard C.L. Penner and by six siblings in early childhood.
Lisa loved gardening; she took much pride in her flowers and in a productive vegetable garden, often sharing bountifully with family and friends. She was a dedicated, loving and loyal aunt, always willing to lend a helping hand, giving advice and guidance and never asking for anything in return. She worked at the Blumenort Poultry Co-op (Granny's) for about 30 years, where she was well known for her delicious homemade soups. She cherished each and every family member and friend; we seldom left her home without a taste of her skills in the kitchen. She was a strong supporter of missions and church outreach.
A special thank you to Dr. Duerksen and the entire staff of the Bethesda Hospital for your love, care and compassion, and for the way you made her last days as comfortable as possible.
Viewing will be held at the Blumenort Evangelical Mennonite Church, Thursday, Feb. 5, 7 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 6, 11 a.m., at the Blumenort E.M. Church. Interment at the Blumenort Cemetery.

JOSEPH "JOE" AURELE BANVILLE
Nov. 4, 1936 to Dec. 30, 2004
After a courageous battle with cancer, Joe passed away at the Centre Medico at St. Pierre-Jolys, Man., at the age of 68 years.
Surviving him are his wife of 44 years, Berthe (née Lemire); his daughters, Carole Banville and her friend Ted Thorpe, Leanne and her husband Winston Koval; their children, Rebecca and Colton; and his son Maurice and his wife Tricia (nee Nickle) and their children, Autumn and Bryce.
Also left to mourn his loss are his sisters, brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all the staff of the Centre Medico, the home care nurses and the ambulance attendants.
At his request cremation will take place. Funeral service was held at the St. Pierre-Jolys Roman Catholic Church, Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005 at 2 p.m. Interment took place immediately following the service.

ETHEL LILLY DUCARME (nee Dearborn)
It is with great sadness we announce that Ethel Ducarme (nee Dearborn), aged 54, passed away Dec. 23, 2004, at the Riverview Health Centre, surrounded by her family. Ethel was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.
Ethel was born in Winnipeg, Man., and her early years were spent in Arnaud, Man., along with her five sisters and four brothers. The family moved to Mitchell, Man. in 1969. Upon completion of high school, she moved to Winnipeg, where she pursued her education and career. She married Randy Ducarme in 1979, and in 1982 her son Jason, the light of her life, was born. In 1986 the family moved to Burlington, Ont. She was a kind and giving mother, sister and friend, who enjoyed gardening, cooking and being with friends. Church families were also a significant part of her life.
After 15 years she returned home to Winnipeg to be near family. Family meant everything to her and these last 2 1/2 years were especially precious to us all. One of Ethel's greatest joys was to spend Christmas with her entire family, including this year, which we celebrated early. In June of this year she was diagnosed with cancer. The remainder of her days were spent cherishing family and her many friends, whose feelings and comfort she continued to place before her own.
Ethel will be dearly missed by her son Jason and friend Meghan; mother Tina Dearborn; siblings, Cliff, Allan (Emily), Mary (friend Brian), Eva (Ron), Joy (Peter), Pete (Cindy), Charlie (Gisele), Minnie (Brian) and Margaret (Frank). She is also survived by siblings-in-law, Terry (Sharon), Dale (Sheila), Denise (David). She will also be dearly missed by every one of her 36 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Randy Ducarme (2002); brother, Allen Dearborn (1951); her father, Samuel Dearborn (1976); and her mother-in-law, Olive Ducarme (2003).
Jason and family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at the Riverview Health Care Center, 3 East.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd.

GEORGE G. DYCK
George G. Dyck of Steinbach, Man., age 86, passed away peacefully at Bethesda Hospital, Dec. 30, 2004, after battling with cancer.
He was born Feb. 21, 1918 at Ekaterinoslav, Russia and immigrated to Canada with his mother and brothers in 1923. He grew up at Rosthern, Sask., and came to Manitoba to work in 1935. He married Mary Doell on Aug. 17, 1947, settling in the Emerson, Man. area, and moved to Steinbach, Man. several years later. He farmed for many years and later was employed at Loewen Windows, after which he retired. During retirement he enjoyed grooming his yard and making wooden toys, much to the delight of his grandchildren.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Mary; two sons, Ernie (Linda) of Winnipeg, Man., grandsons, Myron, Kendall and Curtis; Harry (Diane) of Steinbach, grandchildren Jackie (Jon), Russ (Janette) with great-grandson Zander, Calvin and Gaylene; daughters, Viola (Larry) Reimer of Blumenort, Man. and grandchildren, Ingrid and Mark; Leona Wiens and friend Mario of Steinbach and grandchildren, Jess, Dallas and Dustin. He is also survived by his brother, Harry Sawatzky of Toronto, Ont.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Reimer and the staff at Bethesda Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital and the many friends who came to visit.
The funeral was held at the Christian Fellowship Church, Steinbach, Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

EMMA DORINDA VERHOOG
Emma Dorinda Verhoog was born on the afternoon of Dec. 17, 2004 at Thief River Falls, Minn. to Matthew and Kari Verhoog. She was welcomed home by their family members and friends, who got to love and hold this perfect girl for eight days. There were more who would have if there had been more time before we discovered that her little heart was not made for this world. She received wonderful care from the Mayo Center in Rochester before she slipped away on Dec. 29, the morning after surgery.
Emma will be remembered and missed by her parents, presently of Marchand, Man.; grandparents, Garry and Teresa Verhoog of St Labre, Man.; her aunt, Jessica; and uncles, Josh, Micah, Noah, Luke, Seth and Jonah Verhoog; grandparents, Stan and Dorinda Visness of Karlstad, Minn.; and her aunts, Kaia, Kristina, Kaarina and Kirsten Visness; great-grandparents, Rev John and Mary Verhoog of Exeter, Ont., and Ronald and Ethel Emley of New Egypt, New Jersey; Stanley and Clarice Visness and Erma Raney of Drayton, Minn.; great-great-grandparents, Nellie Staples of Orangeville, Ont., and George Emley of New Jersey; and a great many great-aunts, uncles, cousins across two countries.
Services were held Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005 at Resurrection Church in Karlstad. Baby Emma was a beautiful gift from God, who we wanted to share with our world. We did not realize she would be going back to Him after Christmas and we will miss her here.
