In his youth Dad accepted Jesus as his personal Saviour and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in Steinbach on Dec. 3, 1935 by Min. J.A Koehn. He remained true and faithful to his vows. July 7, 1946 Dad was united in marriage to Evelyn Penner, sharing 47 years together.

Dad was ordained into the ministry Dec. 12, 1950 by Min. Ruben Koehn, and served faithfully until his retirement. Mom and Dad sold the farm on Twin Creek Road in the year of 1988 and bought a house in Steinbach on Rosewood Drive. Our mother passed away Feb. 18, 1994, leaving Dad very lonely.

Dad remarried July 7, 1995 to Elizabeth Penner at Greenland, Man. June 22, 2001, Dad moved from his house in town to Maplewood Manor in Steinbach.

Dad leaves to mourn his passing, his caring wife Elizabeth; two sons and two daughters: Les of Minneapolis, USA and daughter-in-law Margaret of Selkirk, Man., Sandee (Bill) Friesen of New Bothwell, Man., Allan (Barb) of Steinbach, Lori (Dean) Plett of Giroux, Man.; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters and four stepsons and their families; two brothers, Martin (Selma) of Steinbach and Stan (Alice) of Grandview, Man.; one sister, Mary and (Stan) Giesbrecht of Penticton, B.C., and many near and dear ones.

Dad was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn, and one daughter in infancy, his parents, one brother Ed and sister-in-law Rosella.

Dad is now resting; his heavy burdens are over. He beckons us to follow him to yonder heaven's shore. His parting wish is for the family to remain courageous and faithful to God.

We as a family would like to thank Elizabeth and her family for the love and care they gave Dad in the last 10 years. The family would also like to thank the Maplewood Manor staff and Dr. Dan Ilchyna for their excellent care and support while Dad was living there.

Ken grew up in Sault St. Marie, Ont. with his parents and five brothers. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling. He was a pilot in Northern Manitoba for many years. He loved it dearly. He met and married his loving wife Lucille in Winnipeg, Man., while working as a mechanic. Shortly after he moved his family to Friedensfeld, where he had a close relationship with his father-in-law William Oswald. He worked as a carpenter; very talented but had to stop due to health reasons. Visits from his grandchildren were very special. He was happy with all of their accomplishments.

Special thank-you to our friends who have helped us out over the years. Thanks also to our family doctor, Dr. Ilchyna, and Rev. Maier for visiting us.

The funeral service will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, Man., Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2 p.m., with viewing prior to the service. Interment at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

I will not be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come,
though you cannot see or touch me.
I will be near
And if you listen with your heart,
You will hear
All my love around you soft and clear,
Then, when you must come this way alone
Dean and I will greet you with a smile and a “Welcome Home.”
