ROSALIE (Rose) JAHNKE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Rosalie (Rose) Jahnke Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 at the age of 93 years.

Rosalie was born Feb. 4, 1914 in the Woodmore area to Christina and Jacob Retaller. She was the third of 13 children. Rose spent her early years in the area and on Dec. 25, 1932 she married Leo Jahnke and together they farmed and raised a family Elsie, Clarence and Ann, in the Dominion City area. The farm was a couple miles east of town along highway 201. Rose was very active on the farm whether it was milking cows, tending pigs and chickens, driving tractor or whatever other job needed to be done. There were tough times with the loss of an infant daughter and a devastating house fire, but the farm provided a good living and a great sense of personal satisfaction in seeing the fruits of their labours being rewarded. There was much visiting with family and friends especially with many of the brothers and sisters having farms in the area.

Rose was a great cook and there was always lots of food. She always had a garden and there was lots of canning and she loved flowers. She was active with many entries into the local fairs. Even when she was still in her nineties, she would still make a few jars of canned plums, green tomato relish, and dills.

Rose was active in the community through church and St Paul's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid. In 1967, she and Leo sold the farm and moved into Dominion City. In 1970 her husband Leo passed away and Rose moved into her house on Ginn Street. She still kept busy with a small garden, flowers, and canning. She also did quilting, making over a hundred quilts before her hands gave out on her.

Rose had a fantastic memory and many visits were spent recounting all the happenings of family and friends. She was current with local news, sports, and soap operas. She was fiercely independent and almost to the end managed to live at home.

Rose passed away peacefully with family by her side. It was a great comfort to have her son and daughter in-law with her and we take comfort knowing there are family and friends on the other side to greet her and show her the way. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was always concerned for their well being and treasured the pictures of them that she had.

The family wants to thank anyone who took the time to visit Rose in Emerson. We also express our thanks to the Emerson Personal Care Home for looking after her.

Rose is survived by her three children, daughter Elsie Frank, son Clarence (Sylvia) Yahnke and daughter Ann Hill; six grandchildren—Robert (Brenda), Penny (Don), Keith (Diane), Virginia (Rolfe), Jimmy (Louise) and Heather. Ten great-grandchildren Jaclyn, Joshua, Aliya, Dexter, Dustin, Colter, Christine, Matthew, James and Jason; sisters Anne, Irene and brothers, Henry, Jack, and Ben.

Rose was predeceased by her husband Leo, infant daughter of one month Louise, parents Christina and Jacob Reitaller, sons-in-law Ervin Frank and Jim Hill, sisters-Margaret Ruth, Ruby, Chris and brothers John, Roy, and Fred.

Services and interment were at Zion Lutheran Church and Friedensthal Cemetery on Dec. 6, 2007. The service was officiated by Pastor Laurel Seyfert. Pallbearers were Robert Frank, Keith Yahnke, Jim Hill, Don Mrochuk, Rolfe Maskus and Larry Retaller. If friends so desire, donations in Rose's memory may be made to a charity of their choice.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

AGANETHA HARDER

It is with sorrow in our hearts that we announce the passing of Aganetha Harder, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, at the age of 86. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at Concordia Hospital, with Dad at her side, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007.

Mom is survived by and will be greatly missed by her husband of 66 years, Cornelius, daughter Helen, son Jack (Marianne), daughter Anne (Ken) and numerous (very special) grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mom was predeceased by infant son Cornie in 1942, daughter Mary in 1957, and son Willie in 1975. She was also predeceased by her parents, sisters Maria, Helena, Katherine, Susanna, Anne and brother Jacob.

Aganetha was born to Jacob H. and Maria Hiebert on Dec. 1, 1921. She married Cornelius K. Harder on Nov. 2, 1941. The farmed in Silberfeld until 1950, then purchased a farm in Rhineland, where they farmed and raised their family. They retired from the farm in 1988 and built a house in Ile des Chenes, MB, where they lived until 1995. They then moved to a condominium apartment in Winnipeg.

Mom's faith was in her Lord Jesus and she looked forward to heaven and being reunited with those she had missed for so long.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the staff at Concordia Hospital for their concern and care.

A viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007 at 7 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, at 1 p.m., at Callsbeck Fellowship Chapel, 1445 Callsbeck Ave, Winnipeg, with interment at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Aganetha may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9, for whom she sewed many layettes and also did crocheting.

Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030.
