HELEN LOEWEN (Mrs. John D. Loewen)

At the age of 96, our Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep at Woodhaven Manor, Steinbach, MB, on Dec. 19, 2007.

Sept. 8, 1911, Helen was born to Johann and Maria Unger in Blumenhof, MB, as the tenth child of 13. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings.

At age 31, she married John D. Loewen and became mother to his children Marian (Stan Houghton), Ramona (Henry Klassen), Lloyd, Jack (Helen), and Corrine (Alfred Warkentin). Born to her were Barry, Leander, Loris, Kelvin (Jocelyn), and Priscilla (Daryl Martz). She has been blessed by 31 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. She loved each one and remembered all their names and birthdays without fail.

Her passion for many years was quilting and crocheting, and her handiwork will continue to be enjoyed for many years.

Helen was predeceased by her stepson, Lloyd in 1944, two infant grandchildren, and later by her husband John in 1967.

The funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB. Interment at Memorial Cemetery.

ALEXINA JOSEPHINE NAULT
1922 - 2012

It is with great sadness that the family of Alexina Nault announces her passing on March 1, 2012 at the age of 89.

She was predeceased by husband Gabriel (1984), grandson Richard (1976), son Richard (1981) (Kathy) and daughter Celia Johnson (2004) (Stuart). She is survived by sons Manny (Carol), Elmer (Marielee) and daughter Roberta Toews (Vern). Grandchildren: Scott (Coba), Shawn (Marcia), Stuart, Danielle (Brian); step grandchildren: Greg, Terry, Troy, Tammy and Tracey, 18 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and Anthony; siblings: Richard Poitras (Kathy), Gertie Habinski, TerryBeach and Cyria Lawn (Peter).

At mom’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

Anyone wishing to do so may make a donation to a charity of their choice.

RUDOLF MARTENS

Rudy died peacefully at the age of 77 on Friday, March 2, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born second of five children to Gerhard and Anna (Froese) Martens on September 11, 1934 in Winnipeg, MB. Following his teaching career of 35 years in Manitoba, he and his wife Susan moved to Abbotsford, BC in 1996.

Rudy was predeceased by one sister Anna, and one brother Gerhard in early childhood, and later by his parents. Rudy will be dearly missed by his wife of nearly 52 years, Susan (Kasdorf) Martens, two sons, their wives and children: Daryl and Shirley, Asia, Sydney, Mason. Kevin and Lisa, Taylor, Jenna, Danielle. He is also survived by one sister Hilda and Art Kasper, one brother Herb and Hilda Martens, one niece, three nephews and their families.

A celebration of Rudy’s life was held on Wednesday, March 7, 11 am at Bakerview Church in Abbotsford.

The family expresses their deep appreciation to the ALS Society, all the doctors, nurses, friends and relatives for their wonderful care, prayers and support.

BETTY (LIESE) FRIESEN

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betty (Liese) Friesen. On Saturday, March 3, 2012 Betty, in the loving arms of her husband, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Saviour after a valiant battle with cancer.

Left to cherish Betty’s memory is her loving husband of 50 years Leonard, daughter Cheryl and her sons Brandon (Kara), Keaton, Noah and Rhys Friesen; son Dale (Sandra) and their children Justin and Alexandra Friesen; sisters Helen (Benny) Friesen and Nettie (John) Wiens and brother Ron (Yolanda) Froese and sister-in-law Jessie Froese; sister-in-law Sylvia (Rudy) Warkentin and brother-in-law Larry (Evelyn) Friesen as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grunthal Bergthaler Church in Grunthal with interment at the Grunthal Cemetery.

LYDIA FOTH (nee Friesen)
March 27, 1939 – March 3, 2012

On March 3”’, Lydia went home peacefully to glory to meet her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ in heaven, with her husband at her bedside. She is survived by her husband Herbert Foth with whom she shared 51½ years of married life, two sons, Anthony and wife Chiemi with granddaughter Christina, Richard and wife Luana as well as many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents and all of her siblings.

The funeral service will be held at the Mennonite Brethren Church, 340 2nd St, Steinbach with viewing prior to the service. A private family burial will take place at the Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville.

SARAH PETERS

Sarah Peters, 67, of Landmark, MB formerly of Reinland and Winkler, MB passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Ste. Anne Hospital.

She is survived by her husband John, two sons and their families.

Viewing will be held at the Silberfeld CMC Church on Wednesday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church, Landmark with interment at the Silberfeld Cemetery. Donations may be made to Eden Mental Health.

VALERIE JUDITH MARIE MARTENS

Valerie Judith Marie Martens passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Mar. 7, 2012.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 10 years Erwin, sons Allan (Jamie) and Nicholas (Jenna), step-daughter Kyla, children Austin, Taylor, Payton, Marley and Seth. Val was predeceased by her first husband Hilaire Ross and her father Emile Beaudry.

She will also be missed by her mother Estelle Beaudry, her siblings Joanne (Ron), Dominic (Joan), Lorette (Allen), David (Barb), Diane (Arthur), Maurice (Tammy) and Paul (Christine), her father- and mother-in-law Jacob and Margaret Martens, Erg (Laurie), Rudy (Roseanne), Werner, Hilda (Murray), Helga (Harvey), Susie (Richard), numerous nephews and nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and many close friends.

A celebration of Val’s life was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at Southland Community Church, 190 Hwy 52W in Steinbach.

CATHERINE PENNEY

Catherine Florence [Skubovius] Penney. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine. Catherine’s courageous battle with cancer ended at her home in Mississauga, Ontario on March 8th, 2012 at 64 years of age.

Remembered by her Husband Fred, son Brian Penney and wife Rhonda [Steinbach, Manitoba], Daughter Sharon Edwards, Daughter Catherine & Paul Green [Mississauga, Ontario], Sister Eileen [Skubovius] Hobson & husband Phil [Winnipeg, Manitoba], Brother Claude Skubovius & wife Bernice [Steinbach, Manitoba], Theodore [Ted] Skubovius & his wife Jackie, [Dease Lake, B.C.]. Sister in law to Mary Boland [Labrador City, NFLD], Anne and John Kelly [St. Johns, NFLD], Marian and Jim Fitzgerald [Labrador City, NFLD], Kathleen and Gerald Taylor [CBS, NFLD] and Donna and Russell Churchill [Cornwall, ON].

Cathy will also be remembered as Grandmother to Alexandra, Brooke, Kadyzha, Cullen, Conner, Caleigh, Dustin; Great Grandmother to Zackary, and Aunt to many Nieces, Nephews, Cousins too many to count.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Credit Valley Hospital Cancer Care Unit.

ANNE DYCK (nee Goertzen)
1937 - 2012

On Friday March 9, 2012 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB, Ann Dyck aged 74 years of Manitou, MB went to her eternal rest.

She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters, Carole and Wes Sims of Winnipeg, Pauline and Chester Konrad of Niverville, Angela and Don Oldridge of Didsbury, AB, two sons, Carl and Jane Dyck of Brandon, Tim and Shelley Dyck of Airdrie, AB and seven grandchildren. She is survived by four brothers and one sister.

She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Jacob Dyck in 2002 and two sisters.

Funeral service will be held on Friday March 16, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Westside Community Church 831 Thornhill St. in Morden with interment at the Manitou Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ann's memory can be made to either Cancer Care Manitoba or to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.

CLARENCE FUNK

Clarence Funk, 66, of Mitchell, MB passed away Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB.

He is survived by his wife Eva, two daughters, one son, two sisters, three brothers and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Anna Funk, sister Elsie and one granddaughter.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. BRENDA HARDER

Brenda Harder (nee Lloy). It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brenda Harder at the age of 62 years at the Peter Loughheed Hospital. Brenda’s long, heroic and dignified battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and recently diagnosed Cancer came to a very peaceful end on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones.

Left to cherish Brenda’s memory is her devoted, loving husband and best friend Harry Harder; Son Jason (Colleen) Harder; their children, Bryce and Amanda of Cremona, Alberta; Son Jared (Lori) Harder; their children Quinn, Wyatt and Owen of Mannville, Alberta; Parents James and Jean Lloy of St. Anne Manitoba; Sister Beverley (Brian) Watts of Stonewall, Manitoba; Sister Barbie (Ray) Marsh of Mannville, Alberta; Many nieces and nephews as well as their families, and a large extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Brenda’s Life will be held Saturday, March 31 at 2:00pm at the Richer Young at Hearts Club, Richer MB. A second Celebration of Life will be held on April 7 at 2.00pm at the Cremona Community Hall, Cremona AB.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Arthritis Society of Canada.

ROLLIN REIMER

Rollin Reimer, 87, of Steinbach, Manitoba passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the Bethesda Hospital.

He is survived by his wife Elma (nee Penner), three daughters, one son, one brother and their families.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.

REYNOLD PENNER

Reynold “Roy” Penner, 77, of Steinbach, MB formerly of Landmark and Morden passed away at Bethesda Hospital on Friday, March 16, 2012.

He is survived by his wife Mary (nee Rempel), two daughters, three sons and their families. He was predeceased by one son Travis in 1989.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd in Steinbach with interment at Heritage Cemetery.

KAY FUNK

After a fall on January 4, 2012 in which she broke her hip, Kay Funk rapidly deteriorated and finally passed away peacefully on March 18, 2012 at the age of 94.

Left to cherish her memory are nine of her surviving children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband, Martin Funk, and then later by her second husband Peter Funk, her oldest son, Lawrence, who passed away on May 2, 2007, her daughter-in-law Helen, and her grandson Todd.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 21 at 11:00 a.m. also at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment at Memorial Cemetery.
