STEVEN GRANT GARDEN February 10, 1990 - October 19, 2012 It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Steven Garden. Steven was predeceased by his father Ken, with whom he will be laid to rest. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Patty, three brothers Rorie, Todd and Keegan, special nephews and one niece, Braden, Tristen, Noah and Sadie, his aunts, uncles and cousins, two very special cousins Lisa and Carol and the absolute love of his life Nives. Steven was a talented person. He had so many friends that respected and admired him in school, sports and work places. He connected with everyone with his humor, love and generosity. He liked to stay in shape and behind those muscles was a very sensitive guy. He will be missed so much. Funeral Service for Steven will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Temple, 440 Hargrave St. From holding you close as a new baby, to holding my breath as you took your first steps From watching your early stumbles and tumbles, to knowing that nothing could hold you back for long From caring for you, supporting you, believing in you, to being rewarded so many times by your smiles and thoughtfulness I've loved being the mother of such a wonderful son.

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Pat on November 4, 2012 at the age of 78 at Parkview Place Care Centre.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Donna (Warren), son Wayne, granddaughter Kayla and brothers Raymond (Drynda) and Clinton (Carol). Pat was predeceased by her parents Cliff and Jessie and granddaughter Tara.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The family would like to thank the medical staff of the 3rd Floor of Parkview Place.

ALMA GERTRUDE COUSER (nee DREGER)
(August 30, 1927 - November 1, 2012)
Alma passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on November 1, 2012 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her loving husband David, her parents William and Willamina Dreger and sisters Minnie, Shirley, Mildred and Viola.
Alma was loved dearly and will be missed by her sons Martin (Gail), Harold (Shellie and grandchildren Ashley, Brittany and great-granddaughter Brooklyn) and Joey (Sue and grandson Jarod) as well as brothers Walter (Diane) and Gordon (Darlene) and sisters Ruth, Norma, Eileen, Joan (Dick) and Donna.
Alma was born on the family farm near Sewell, Manitoba on August 30, 1927. She had several occupations throughout her life, working at the Morris bakery, café and hotel as well as many years as a bookkeeper for a construction company. Retiring in 1983, upon marrying the love of her life David Couser, they spent many years filling their time travelling, visiting family and friends at home and afar. Alma enjoyed watching her sons throughout their lives participate in curling, baseball and hockey. She was their biggest fan. Alma was an incredibly loving grandmother who took great pride in her grandchildren and loved spending as much time with them as possible. They will always treasure the wonderful memories she gave to them.
A memorial service will take place Wednesday, November 7 at 11:00 am at Voyage Funeral Home, located in Evangel Chapel, 1073 St. Mary’s Rd.

Albert Friesen Kliewer
(November 18, 1924 - October 23, 2012)
ALBERT ‘BERT’ F. KLIEWER Bert Kliewer, born 18 November 1924 to Anna and Cornelius Kliewer in the RM of DeSalleberry, Manitoba, died peacefully on the evening of Tuesday, 23 October 2012 at age 87, in the loving arms of his children. He fell asleep on Monday afternoon, knowing that he would wake up in the arms of his Lord and Saviour. Bert was predeceased by his parents; his loving wife of 43 years, Betty (nee Neufeld); daughters-in-law Gloria (Doug Kliewer) and Lorelei (Ron Friesen); and all but one of his siblings. He is survived by Marie Anne (Marian, nee Fast), his wife and dear companion of his last 21 years; his daughter, Sherrie (Larry Bredesen), and sons Doug and Kevin, and surviving sister, Agnes Friesen. Also missing their Dad of 21 years are Marian’s children, daughter Marla Kerr and sons Ron, Gerry (Becky) and Reg Friesen (Wendy); and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He retired in 1989 to care for wife, Betty, in her short fight with Cancer. He remarried in 1991, to Marian Friesen, and spent many happy years of ‘one-tanker’ and ‘two-tanker’ road trips with Marian and various friends and family. Bert Kliewer was a Founding Member of the Windsor Park Evangelical Free Church, now the Winnipeg EFC. Bert was a humble man of strong, steady faith in his Lord, and spent many years in the service of his church. Bert will be remembered by his family and many friends for his quick humour, his sense of honesty and fair play, his quiet emotion, which always lay close to his surface, and great ‘Kliewer Hugs’. He believed deeply, loved deeply, and was a ‘Dad’, as well as a Father, to his children. Simply stated, he was a good man and will be fondly missed. His family wishes to sincerely thank the physicians, nurses and other caregivers at Cancer Care Manitoba and the Riverview Health Centre, 3-East Palliative Care Unit for their dedication, skill and loving care of our father in this last challenging chapter of his life. Per his wishes, Bert was cremated following his passing. A Memorial (Celebration) Service will be held at the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd, on Saturday, 27 October 2012, at 1:00 PM. A light lunch will be served following the Service. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Cancer Care Manitoba, the 3-East Palliative Care Unit at the Riverview Health Centre or charity of choice in Bert’s name would be appreciated.

Nicholas Mudry
(December 6, 1924 - October 26, 2012)
On Friday, October 26, 2012 at 10:30 pm at the Victoria General Hospital, Nicholas Mudry passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and the grace of God at the age of 87. Born December 6, 1924 in St. Norbert, he is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Anne, sons Larry (Cathy) and Ken (Alison), grandchildren Nicholas, Duncan, Katie, Kim, Kara and Meagan, and great-grandchildren Jake and Elsa Brisebois. As a youth Nick worked hard on the family farm and took kind care of his mother. After working at several short term jobs, in 1947, he joined Canada Cement where he worked until his retirement in 1986. In 1949, he married Anne Wityshyn and they began a long and fruitful life together. In 1950, they bought a little house on Red River Drive in St. Norbert and there they built a life that included working many acres of vegetables, a passion and vocation that became a way of life for them both until the flood of the century claimed the property and they were forced to move in 2000. As well, Nick was instrumental in the establishment of the community “hall” which was right next door to their house. After the flood of 1997, he was involved in the re-building of a bigger, better and more modern Howden Hall that is still thriving. After retirement, Nick and Anne enjoyed many winter vacations with friends, sunning in Puerto Vallarta, Palm Springs and Hawaii on many occasions. He also continued to help on the boys' properties, sometimes spontaneously coming by to hop on the John Deere and cut the grass, even when it didn’t need cutting! Nick (Gigi), was a man of unparalleled strength of character and integrity. He never lost his sense of humour and still was cracking wise up to the final day. He had a strong faith in God and church, and a beautiful singing voice that added to the choir and enhanced many a Christmas Eve family sing-along. He loved socializing and always enquired as to the well-being of his many friends and acquaintances, being the first to volunteer whenever anyone needed help. He had an uncanny talent for mushroom picking (“ I go for the ones with the worms in them”) and played a mean game of cards - almost unbeatable - and loved watching sports and old western movies on TV when his health kept him from getting out as much as he used to. Nick always kept lollipops in his shirt pocket to hand out to the children in his church congregation and always had gummy worms for grandchildren. We will miss the mischievous sparkle in your eye, Dad. We love you and will cherish all the wonderful gifts and memories you gave us forever. Rest in peace. Celebration of life will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 1 at Howden Hall, 1078 Red River Dr., St. Norbert, MB. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

Alec Black
(October 3, 1934 - October 19, 2012)
With sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of Alec on October 19, 2012 with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife Stella, children Colleen (Bill) and Kevin, grandchildren Charles and Claire, as well as his sisters Fran (Norton), Marion (Ed), Margaret and Helen and numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard Alan Hunchak

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Len Hunchak on October 22, 2012. He was born April 21, 1947. Len is survived by his loving wife Lisa, son Brent, brother Rodney, sister Judy Daily (Terry), nephew Taylor and special students and friends. He was predeceased by his father Stan and mother Elsie Hunchak. Len lived for his love of music as one of Winnipeg’s finest accordionists, teacher and musician. A longer obituary and memorial to celebrate Len’s life will be announced at a later date.

Kenneth Neil Friesen

With sadness we announce the passing of Ken after a lengthy struggle with cancer. We take comfort in knowing he is with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Ken was predeceased by his wife Deanna and his parents Fred and Elizabeth. Left to mourn his loss is his wife Janice, step-daughters Heidi and Mandy and their families, brothers Edmar and Wes (Elaine) as well as his niece and nephews and their families and friends. Ken worked at Monarch Ind. for 41 years. He enjoyed volunteering at Union Gospel Mission. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Braeside Church, 1011 Munroe Ave., viewing one half hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Mennonite Memorial Gardens.

Agatina Vincenza Passante
(November 19, 1927 - October 21, 2012)
On Sunday, October 21, 2012, Mom went to join the others in our family when she passed away peacefully surrounded by love at the Concordia Hospital at the age of 84. Our Mamma was one of the toughest gals who fought and beat the odds her entire life. She was funny, sarcastic and always helped others whenever she could. She met and married the love of her life Liborio when she was just 16 years old and they made a wonderful life together first in Catania and then in 1958 here in Winnipeg. They had nine children and felt incredibly blessed with such a large family. Mom was also a Nona to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who she adored. Besides the love of her family Mom also loved to work with her hands and made the most beautiful knitted and crocheted goods. To receive a handmade work of art from Mom was indeed a gift that was always treasured. Born on November 19, 1927 in Catania, Sicily Mom worked from the tender age of 11. She always wanted to help her family and that was her way of doing so. Although she spent most of her life in Winnipeg, Catania was still the home of her heart. And she was blessed to visit there five times over the years. Mamma was predeceased by her loving husband Liborio, sons Giuseppe and Salvatore, mother Rosaria, siblings Sarafina and Salvatore, her Nona Mara as well as many relatives in Sicily. She leaves to mourn her children Tino (Judy), Joe, Peter, Frank, Lucy (Mike), Rose and Liz (Dave) as well as her grandchildren Dave, Jason (Carolyn), Shaun, Melanie, Leanne, Joel (Amy), Gina and Selina and her great-grandchildren Kyra, Nicholas, Sidney, Grace, Madison and Marley. Mamma really did fight to the very end and only left us when she knew we were all going to be fine without her. She took care of all of us her entire life and many times went without so that her children could have what she felt we deserved. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia (especially Susan and Chris on NW3) and her Homecare workers Brenda, Kim and Donna. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 26th at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Interment immediately following the reception at Glen Eden. Pallbearers will be Mamma’s grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please make a donation on Mamma’s behalf to the Heart and Stroke Association or a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace Mamma we will miss you like crazy.

SANDRA JILL WETTON (NEE GATES)
(February 3, 1952 - October 20, 2012)
With her loving family by her side, Jill passed away in the early hours of October 20th, 2012. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Allan, daughter Michelle (Lyle), son Steve (Laura), mother Dorothy, brothers David (Val) and Allan (Debbie) Gates, sister Bev (Gary) Skyberg-Taylor, nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends. She will also be missed by Penny, her English springer spaniel who brought so much joy to her life. Jill was predeceased by her father, George Gates.
Jill was born on February 3rd, 1952 in Winnipeg. Her creative side began as a child, designing patterns and sewing clothes for her Barbie dolls. In school, she would often complete sewing homework for other students. Jill graduated from Glenlawn Collegiate in 1971.
Jill attended the St. Boniface General Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in June 1974. She began her nursing career in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). While working overnights, she spent many breaks with her fellow “Scrabble Queens”. Jill cared for the babies in the nursery like they were her own. She always made sleepers for the holidays, and for several years would design an outfit for the New Year’s baby at St. Boniface. This led to the creation of “Precious Preemies”, her specialized clothing line for premature babies. Jill worked at St. Boniface Hospital for over 30 years before taking an early retirement due to her health.
Jill began training to become a pilot in September 1974. She proudly completed her first solo flight on April 9th, 1975 and got her private pilot license on September 5th, 1975. Upon receiving her license, her dad was her first proud passenger. After more experience, she received her commercial license on March 1st, 1980. She was one of the few female pilots at the Winnipeg Flying Club. Jill met her husband Allan at Winnipeg Aviation when she came to train for her commercial pilot license. They were married on June 27th, 1981 in Winnipeg.
Jill’s love of travel began with a trip to Hawaii in 1978 with her sister. She visited England and France as a young lady and went on several family road trips, Caribbean cruises with Allan, and also loved going to Las Vegas, Seattle and Phoenix with friends. Her photos and beautiful scrapbooks of these trips will be cherished.
Jill was a gifted artist with her sewing, embroidery and quilting. She created many special gifts for many family and friends. Her children always had the nicest Halloween costumes, embroidered shirts and custom clothing. The quilts, pillows and holiday linens she created will be a constant reminder of her many creative talents and love for entertaining for many years to come.
Jill was incredibly brave and fought so hard during her 23-year battle with breast cancer. She was proud to attend her children’s high school and university graduations, and sat beaming at their weddings. Along with family and friends, Jill and Allan celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in 2011. Jill’s ability to bravely live each day to the fullest is an inspiration to all of those who knew her.
Jill’s family thanks the staff of 6E in St. Boniface Hospital and CancerCare Manitoba for her care. In addition, we appreciated the many family and friends who came to visit.
A celebration of Jill’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 29th, at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 220 Helmsdale Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jill's memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave.
