FLORENCE MARION SADLER
Mrs. Florence Marion Sadler (Facey) of High River, Alberta, formerly of Calgary, passed away peacefully in the High River Nursing Home on May 13, 1998 at the age of 71 years.
Florence was born April 9, 1927 in Boissevain, Manitoba and received her education in the Dunallen School District. She, with her husband Lorne, farmed in the Fairfax and Minto districts for many years before moving to Neepawa for a short time. Florence moved to Calgary in 1964 where she was employed at the Westgate Hotel for over twenty years until ill health forced her to retire. Her many friends will remember her love of gardening, social dancing, and her being an avid spectator of baseball and hockey.
She was a very loving and dedicated mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her son Douglas (Joan) of High River & granddaughter Dana; son Melvin (Carol) and granddaughter Brandi, Invermere, B.C.; her daughter Noreen Sims (Gerry), Calgary; her brother, Arnold Facey, Calgary and sister Marjorie (Howard) Harrison, Okotoks, AB, numerous nieces & nephews, grandnieces & nephews and her extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Ern & Clara Facey, brother Leslie and her grandson Shawn.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16 at Snodgrass Funeral Chapel in High River. Cremation followed. Her ashes are resting beside those of her beloved grandson Shawn in High River.
DOROTHY ELIZABETH HAMMOND
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother, Dorothy Elizabeth Hammond of Boissevain, on June 4, 1998 in Brandon General Hospital. Funeral services were held at St. Paul's United Church on June 6, 1998 with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment was at the Boissevain Cemetery.
Dorothy Elizabeth Denny was born near Boissevain on May 8, 1917 and received her schooling in the Richview district. In 1940 she married Abby Hammond and they lived in the Horton district. In 1942 their daughter Verydith was born, followed by Glenna Gail in 1947. Dorothy kept busy helping with the farm and raising her family. She was active in the Horton's Ladies group and enjoyed spending time visiting neighbours. Following Abby's passing, Dorothy retired to Boissevain. She actively enjoyed her curling, bingo and cards with friends.
Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. They were her highest priority and they flourished with her constant love and support. To Glenna Gail she was a mother and a friend who supported her in everything she did. Her grandchildren have fond memories of her loving, caring and unselfish manner. The love she shared with them will remain with them forever.
Pallbearers were Bev Robertson, Blaine Facey, Ross Wilkinson, Earl Atkison, Perry Hallett and Jim McDonald.
Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Glenna Gail and husband Wayne; her grandchildren Shari and Scott Coates, Dean, Denny and Heather Robertson; sister Tillie Jasper, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Mildred Denny, sister-in-law Marg Hammond and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, her husband Abby, daughter Verydith and son-in-law Murray, her brothers Garnett and Dave and sisters Margaret and Pearl and various in-laws.
Boissevain-Killarney Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Donations were made to the Boissevain-Morton Foundation.
JEAN MAY (JACKSON) CUVELIER
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jean Cuvelier on December 15, 1997, at the age of 62 years, at the Boissevain Health Centre with her loving family by her side.
Jean is survived by her husband, Andy Cuvelier; three sons, Robert (Bernice), Gordon (Joanne) and Mark; two daughters, Deborah (Orville) Acton and Karen; six grandchildren, Emily and Luke Cuvelier and Steven, Sarah, Gregory and Partrick Acton; mother, Florence Jackson; three brothers, Bob (Lorraine), Murray and Mervin Jackson. Jean was predeceased by her father George Jackson.
Jean was born at home at Minto on March 27, 1935 and attended school at Minto and Regent. She married Andy Cuvelier June 16, 1952 in Souris. They farmed together first in the Margaret district and then moved to the East Lynne district in 1964, operating a dairy and grain farm. In 1977, Jean and Andy moved to Regina, returning to Boissevain in 1980. After living a few years in Boissevain, they purchased an acreage south of Boissevain where Jean enjoyed raising her unusual pets and livestock. She was diagnosed with cancer in November, 1993 and due to her failing health, Jean and Andy returned to Boissevain in 1995. Jean enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends and loved sharing a good joke. She was actively involved in their farming operations, was a foster parent, distributed Amway and Watkins products, and owned a restaurant in Regina. At the time of her passing, Jean was a member of St. Paul's United Church.
Interment was conducted by Rev. Harvey Hurren at the Boissevain Cemetery on Thursday, December 18, 1997. Funeral arrangements were in the care of Smith Funeral Home, Deloraine.

RENA MCLEAN
Rena McLean of Wingham, Ontario passed away at the Wingham and District Hospital on Monday, January 12, 1998 at the age of 91 years.
Rena is survived by her daughter Geraldine Chappell and dear grandson Tom Chappell, both of Wingham. Also surviving are sister Lillie Thompson, Brandon; brother Clifford Wray of Boissevain and several nieces and nephews. Rena was predeceased by her husbands Tom Wear and Jack McLean; her son-in-law Lloyd Chappell, her parents William and Emma (Clay) Wray; brothers George, William, James and Stanley; and her twin sister Gertie Ferguson.
A time of visitation was held at the Brockie-Donovan Chapel on Thursday, January 15. Funeral service was held at the chapel on Friday, January 16 with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating. Interment was at the Brandon Cemetery. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre following the interment at Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Wear, Leonard Wray, Eugene Wray, Leslie Wray, James Wray and Murray Kennedy.
BENJAMIN EDMUND CHAMBERS
Benjamin Edmund Chambers died suddenly on Tuesday, December 15, 1998, at Boissevain. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 47 years, Emily Sarah; two sons, Richard (Brenda) of Boissevain, their children Valerie, Bradley and friend Jenny Lynn, and Douglas (Gloria) of Calgary and their family, Sarah and Megan; also brother John of Boissevain and sister Margaret and husband William Grain of Pilot Mound. His parents, daughter Lois Margaret, infant son Michael Edward William and his brother Thomas predeceased him.
Benjamin was born June 24, 1918 at 36-2-20 in the municipality of Morton and continued to live on the home farm until retirement to town in 1988. Ben enjoyed life enthusiastically and was keenly interested in his family's lives. He was a good neighbour and conscientious supporter of community endeavours. He was a member of Doric Mason Lodge N0. 36, AF & AM, master in 1970 and 1972, District Deputy in 1974-75. Also Worthy Patron of Minnehaha Chapter #9 O.E.S. several times and recently affiliated with Pelican Lake Chapter No. 62. Ben has served as school trustee and chairman of Fairburn School, Chairman of Red Cross local branch, 4-H leader, and Warden of Vestry St. Matthew's Anglican Church of which he was a faithful member. Since moving to town he was also actively involved in golfing, bowling, and the Drop-In Center as well as maintaining his yard and garden.
A Masonic service was held at Killarney Wheatland on Thursday, December 17 and a memorial service at St. Matthew's on Friday, December 18. Burial in the family plot.
JEAN LOURIE (NEE PETTYPIECE)
It is with deep regret that family announce the death of their beloved wife, mother and grandmother Jean (Jessie) Lourie at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital McKellar Site on July 25th, 1998.
Jean was born in Souris, Manitoba on October 26th, 1916 to Ellen and William Pettypiece. She graduated from Boissevain Collegiate and Children's Hospital in Winnipeg as a Registered Nurse in 1940. Jean was employed at McKellar Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1977. In 1942, Jean was married to Jack Lourie and they resided in Port Arthur and Fort William. Jean was Nani to 3 grandchildren. Jean was a life member of the Broadway United Church U.C.W., a member of the Board of Management and an Explorer Leader. She enjoyed many summers with her family at Silver Beach. Jean had many happy memories of her winters in Mesa, Arizona with Jack.
She is survived by her husband Jack, two daughter Ellen Lourie-May (Peter May) and Linda Sequin (Len); 3 grandchildren Scott, Courtney and Curtis Sequin; a sister Edith Oke and sister-in-law Jessie Crombie. Jean was predeceased by her parents, 4 brothers Joe, Hubert, Alex and Kenneth; 3 sisters Marjorie, Helen and Marguerite.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services for Mrs. Jean Lourie were held in Broadway United Church. Rev. Jack White officiated and interment took place in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
MARY EDNA HODGSON
Edna lived and loved life and so it is with deep sadness that we announce her passing on June 6th, 1998 at the family home on the farm (l6-5-23) where she and Bob resided for 58 years.
The first and foremost passion in life was her family. Cherishing her memory and mourning her loss are her husband Bob, daughter Margaret (Don) Fisher, daughter Vicky and son-in-law Ken Lewis, grandchildren (the light of her life) Laurie and Ryan Fisher, Andrew and Ashley Lewis, sisters-in-law Rowena Stroud and Ruth Norton, brothers-in-law Harold Hodgson, Victor Hodgson and his wife Phyllis, the Anderson and Hodgson nieces, nephews and cousins and life-long friends Margaret Scharf, Wilma Day and Ruth Turnbull.
Edna was born at Wakopa January 30,1910 to parents William and Frances Anderson. She was predeceased by an infant brother Edward, brother John and brother Frank and his wife Thelma (Toots). Edna attended Long River School, Killarney High School for grade 12, and Winnipeg Normal School to obtain her teaching certificate. This launched her into a career spanning 33 years, which included 5 years at West Lake, 1 year at Margaret, 25 years at Dand and 2 years at Deloraine. It is a gift from God when someone is allowed to pursue a career which is not just a job, but rather a passion. Edna truly did love to teach and her pupils loved her - Miss Anderson, Mrs. Hodgson, Aunt Edna and Mom - as she was known to her students over the years.
At an early age Edna began playing the piano and took only a few lessons, as it was discovered she could play "by ear". This was a gift she generously shared with all. Her love of music made many community and family gatherings happy and fun filled events. In addition she played with the Riddell Orchestra for 19 years and the Playmates for 6 years. She and Bob spent many evenings travelling to surrounding towns where Edna would play for a dance. As a result of these dances, Edna and Bob made many life-long friendships.
Family, teaching school, and playing the piano fulfilled and balanced a quality of life that gave Edna great happiness. Her sense of humour, optimistic nature combined with a commitment to do the right thing, gained her the love and respect of all who knew her.
A celebration of Edna's life was held at Dand United Church on June 9th with Rev. Beth McLean officiating. Internment at Hartney Cemetery was followed by a time of fellowship for family and friends at Hartney Centennial Centre.
EDITH LEILA DUNN
Peacefully at Boyne Lodge, Carman, MB, July 22, 1998, Edith Leila Dunn passed away at the age of 95.
Edith was born in Russell, MB, October 4, 1902. Edith is survived by four children: Joan (Jim), Bev (Betty), Oral, Berith (Hugh); six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one niece Marilyn Montville; 2 nephews Nathan and Tom Fenton. Edith was predeceased by her parents Wilthew and Rosina Coultis, two sisters Phyllis and Norah, one brother George and husband Lorne.
Edith was active in the church, I.O.D.E. and was one of the first woman members of the school board. She enjoyed Bridge and Bingo, was a great entertainer and cook and, last but not least, a good and loving mother.
Funeral service was held Monday, July 27th in St. Paul's United Church, Boissevain with interment in Boissevain Cemetery.

DR. ARTHUR WILLIAM LAWLER
Dr. Arthur William passed away at the age of 90 years in Vancouver General Hospital on May 4, 1998.
He was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on March 2, 1908. He is survived by his brother Dr. Robert Lawler and sister-in-law Nettie, West Vancouver; niece (Susan) of Vancouver, B.C. and nephew (Robert) of Victoria.
Arthur graduated from Manitoba Medical College in 1932. He took post graduate training in England and Canada. He was a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (England) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Canada). He practised medicine in Winnipeg and Vancouver. Arthur was an active member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Vancouver.
