Ronald Bruce Friesen

1958 - 2006

Peacefully, on January 3, 2006 Ron passed away at Bethesda Hospital at the age of 47 years. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Sally (Desrochers), his son Justin, and sisters and brothers: Luella Friesen, Diana Bergen (Henry), Vyola Kehler (Dan), Brian Friesen (Brenda), Rick Friesen (Sherrie), Sheila Friesen and step family: Anne Friesen, Nettie Penner, Tony Penner (Valerie), and Ruth Harder (Marvin).

He is predeceased by his parents Abe S. & Amanda Friesen, and stepbrother Menno Penner.

Ron loved his family and friends and being around people. He loved life and the challenges it brought. Before his illness began, he often exhausted others with his energy. His first love was his family and being involved in his son’s activities and sports. He enjoyed hockey, soccer, football, hunting, fishing, camping, and taking pictures. Ron especially loved to tease and joke around.

The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Bethesda Hospital and Health Sciences for their kindness and care, and also the many friends and relatives who stayed by our side during these difficult times.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Grace Mennonite Church, 430 3rd St., Steinbach, MB with Father Leo Couture presiding. Viewing will be held prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Internment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Justin’s trust fund at the Steinbach Credit Union, or to Bethesda Palliative care or Cancer Care.

Margaret F. Janzen (nee Friesen)

1931 - 2006

Margaret Janzen, 74, of Winnipeg, formerly of Arnaud, passed away Jan 5, 2006 at Health Sciences Centre. She is survived by her husband John W. Janzen, son Greg (Shirley) of Arnaud, daughter Luann Janzen of Wpg., and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will take place at the Arnaud Mennonite Church, Arnaud, MB on Mon, Jan 9 at 2 pm with viewing prior to the service. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.

If friends so desire donations may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, 400 – 280 Smith Street; Winnipeg, MB R3C 1K2.

Henry L. Braun

August 5, 1921 – January 6, 2006

Quietly in his sleep, at 6:45 am on January 6th at Bethesda Place in Steinbach . He was a son of the late Peter and Helena Braun of Lowe Farm. Henry was Secretary Treasurer of the Town of Steinbach from 1952 to 1967, followed by 18 years as office manager at Derksen Printers. Henry took an early retirement to devote several years to working for MCC as a full and later part time volunteer as his health allowed. Volunteering and being of service to others, whether in his church or in the community, was an important part of his life.

Henry is survived and missed by his wife of 43 years Nettie, sons Keith (Carol) of Steinbach and James of Morden, daughters Judith (Ken) Mantie of Marchand, Sharon of Pouce Coup, BC and Audry (Lloyd) Fear of Elm Creek, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Ed (Margaret) of Morris, and three sisters Hattie of Altona; Mary (Corny) Friesen of Lowe Farm; and Eva (Benjamin) Wiebe of Portage La Prairie. Henry was predeceased by his first wife Wanda (Reimer), one daughter Elaine (Al) Budarin, three brothers; Peter (Justina), Jacob (Olga), John (Anne) and three sisters Lena (Peter) Harder, Lena and Tina in infancy.

We would like to express our appreciation to the staff of Bethesda Place for the excellent and tender care he received over the past 2 ˝ years.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 7 pm with at devotional at 7:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Grace Mennonite Church, 430 Third St, Steinbach on Tuesday, January 10 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to Bethesda Place, Box 939, Steinbach, MB R5G 1A3

Ruben Reimer

1944 – 2006

Ruben passed away peacefully Jan 7, 2006 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach. He is survived by five brothers Bill, Vern, Andy, Ben and Norman; three sisters Mary, Liz and Lydia and their families. He was predeceased by parents Peter B and Agnes Reimer, brothers John and Harry and sister Eva.

Ruben’s labour of love was on the family farm near Blumenort. Accepting hardships as they were dealt to him, in 1994 he made his home at Birchwood Apts, Steinbach.

The family would like to thank the home care staff and all those that helped make Ruben’s day at Birchwood Apts. He will be sadly missed.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 2 pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach with viewing prior to the service. Interment at the EMC Cemetery, Blumenort, MB

Agnes Tarasenco (nee Friesen)

November 5, 1918 – January 10, 2006

Agnes Tarasenco passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Bethesda Place at the age of 87.

She was predeceased by her husband John in 1995 and by sisters Susie, Kay, Helen and brothers George, Ben, Henry, Abe and Tony.

She is survived by her loving children Larry (Laura), Shirl (Norm) Peters, Ginny (Gord) Wyatt, Alan (Karen); her grandchildren Alexis, Jason, Michele, Shauna, Shelly, Ryan and great grandchildren Madisson, Julianne, Samantha, Brianna and Kaleigh as well as her sisters Birdie, Eva, Elma, Gertie, Mary and brothers Bill, Dave, Neil and John, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mom was born in Letellier and as a young woman she moved to Steinbach to work, where she met and married John in April 1940. Mom was a homemaker but also helped our Dad in his business. She enjoyed scrabble, crosswords, reading, sewing and knitting and, of course, spending time with her grandchildren.

She moved to Bethesda Place in May 2003, where she was lovingly cared for. Here she was known for her sharp wit, opinions and her candid “one liners”, which helped endear her to the staff. The family greatly appreciates everything the staff did for our mother and grandmother during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethesda Place, Box 939; Steinbach, MB R5G 1A3

The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2006 at 1:00 pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach, MB with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be prior to the service.

Geordie Brown

1918 – 2006

Geordie Brown, 87, died in the Bethesda Hospital on January 16, 2006 after suffering a stroke the week before. He was born to Isaac & Gertrude Brown in the Kronsgart District, Plum Coulee, on September 14, 1918. He is survived by his dear wife, Sophie (Hiebert) Brown, eight children, Gordon (Violet), Grace Bartel, Gerald (Irene), Garry (Vi), Gilbert (Mavis), Gail Dzuba (Merv), Garth & Gloria Barkman (Alvin), 25 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers, and 1 great-grandchild.

In his teens he memorized 500 Bible verses to earn his way to camp. Through this he understood God’s love for him and committed his life to God. He was active as a Sunday School teacher, in youth ministry, as a choir director, and led a string orchestra in the community for many years in various communities. In the Steinbach MB church he was active in Boys Brigade as long as his health permitted.

He was a farmer in the Morris/Lowe Farm area until 1960 when he moved to Steinbach to work as a plumber. He began Brown’s Plumbing & Heating in 1973. After he retired he continued to contribute his expertise until his death. He and Sophie celebrated 60 years of marriage in 2005.

Geordie was an avid sportsman and fisherman, and active in church ministries and music. He also greatly enjoyed his grand-children and great-grand-children.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, January 19 at 7 pm with a devotional at 7:30 pm. The service will be held at the Mennonite Brethren Church, Steinbach on Friday, January 20 at 11 am with interment at Heritage Cemetery.

Thank you, doctors and nurses at the Bethesda Hospital for the kind care and services. A special thank you to all who supported the family in prayer.
