NOBLE: Aylmer Noble passed away on September 19, 2007 at Fairview. He will be forever remembered by daughter and son-in-law Sandra and Bob Raeburn; grandsons Todd and Drew (Janis); great-grandchildren Jessica, Vanessa and Kaase; sister-in-law Luella Noble; and many nieces and nephews including special niece Wilma (Arch) MacArthur for whom Aylmer was always "George." Aylmer was kind, generous and supportive of his family. He had a special relationship with Louise, his wife of 62 years until her passing in 2003, enjoying so many activities together including Saturday nights at the Legion. He had an encyclopedic memory, was a consummate record keeper, and composer of many poems (his "diddy's") which he typed on his trusty 1920 Underwood. Aylmer had a life long interest in music and became the "resident pianist" on the fourth floor of Fairview. He also acquired an interest in painting and was the proud artist of more than 120 paintings, most of the "old days." He was a dedicated employee throughout his life, ending with a career at the City of Brandon (real estate) which began in 1965, retirement in 1978, recalls on three occasions, and "final" retirement in 1983. Aylmer was born in Boissevain in 1913 and was pre-deceased by his wife Louise, his parents Russell and Annie Noble, brothers Ernie and Earl Noble, Bill Wall, and sisters Ethel Harper, Blanche Nobes, Florence Kempthorne. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Fairview for their care. In accordance with Aylmer's wishes, cremation, and a private family service, officiated by Rev. Harvey Hurren, have taken place.
NICOL: On January 1, 2007, Jim Nicol, 67 years of age, ended his journey where it began October 8, 1939 at Brandon General Hospital with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Esther (McKinnon) and his three children: Corey (Geoff), Grant (Susan) and Ryan (Kristy). His grandchildren: Sarah & Erica, Halen & Holly, Dylan & Angus, all hold a special place in their hearts for their Poppa. He was predeceased by his parents: Blanche and Bill Nicol and sister: Wilma Busch. He is survived by one sister: Shirley Nicol and numerous other beloved family members. He was employed for 45 years with Brandon Heating & Plumbing as both tradesman and partner. Although committed to his work, his greatest pleasure was time spent with his family and friends. Nothing was more treasured than the many moments and memories created at Otter Lake. He was known for his quiet sense of humour, his warmth and his genuine interest towards others. Whether it was travelling, square dancing, manning the grill, or keeping fire watch at the bonfire, Jim’s presence was always felt by those around him and will be profoundly missed. A celebration of Jim’s life took place January 5, 2007 at Trinity United Church with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating. A private family niche placement was held at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. NEILLY: George Neilly (Dec. 9, 1931 – July 25, 2008). It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Neilly on July 25th at the age of 76 years. George was predeceased by his father Everett, his mother Marjorie and his sister Marion Dodd of Moose Jaw, SK. He leaves to cherish his memory his two nieces and two nephews: Beverley Montgomery of Gull Lake, SK, Ken Dodd of Calgary, AB, Joanne Dodd of Edmonton, AB, and Jim Dodd of Moose Jaw, SK. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Gordon Dodd of Moose Jaw, SK. George was born in Brandon, MB on December 9, 1931. He was very active in Clear Lake, Riding Mountain National Park, where he owned and operated Neilly’s Texaco, later to be Neilly’s Esso and X.T.R. from 1959-2006. George also operated the Highway #1 and #10 Texaco in Brandon from 1960-1963. Everyone who either visited Clear Lake, had a business, or were cabin owners, possibly visited with George. George touched the lives on many people in Clear Lake and Brandon, and he will be missed by all. A Celebration of George’s Life will take place at St. Matthew’s Anglican Cathedral, 403-13th Street, Brandon, on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with The Very Rev. Robin Walker officiating. Reception to follow. George struggled with diabetes for many years and passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. NAY: Muriel Irene Nay (Hill) passed away on February 16, 2009 with her three children and their spouses at her side. She went peacefully in her sleep. Mom was born on the family farm three miles northeast of Ninga on August 26, 1918. She was born to Thomas Antony Hill and Florence Ida (Brown). She had two younger sisters, Ruth Campbell and Alma McCausland. She went on to graduate from Killarney High School and then went to Success Business College in Winnipeg. She worked for a few years at Swift's in Winnipeg and Toronto. In 1943, mom went to Bellville Ontario, to marry her neighbour, Morley Nay, who was serving in the Air Force. They were later posted to Toronto, Port Alberni and Tofino, B.C. Mom loved telling us of some of the beautiful things they saw in their early lives together, like Casa Loma in Toronto and the sunsets on Vancouver Island. They would return to dad's home farm, four miles northeast of Ninga, in 1945 and lived there, until 1960. Dad became the Postmaster in Ninga, which mom ran as dad continued to farm for a few years. She ran the Post Office until 1975, when they would move to Boissevain. Mom worked in the office for her nephew, Kenn Riddell, in his plumbing business for a number of years. In 1984, mom and dad moved to Killarney and in 1997, she moved to Brandon. Mom had many interests in her life. She enjoyed curling, cards, sewing and crafts, artwork, drawing, gardening and travelling. Her travels took her to England, Scotland, Portugal, Hawaii, Nevada, Utah, California, Florida, Mexico, and of course, Texas where mom and dad spent many winters. She would never turn down an invitation to play cards and especially loved playing with her grandchildren. She loved watching curling and ball. In 1950, Jim was adopted and Diane (Gouldie) in 1952. A few years later, in 1959, along came Mary Lou (Klassen). Mom is survived by her sisters, Ruth Campbell and Alma and her brother-in-law, Gene McCausland. She is also survived by her three children, Jim and Trudy (Patterson), their children Brad of Calgary and Janice of Brandon and great grandson Zachary; Diane and Cliff Gouldie and their two children Sherry and Mark Pippert of Falmouth, Nova Scotia and great grand children Robyn and Holly, also Travis and Pam (Saban) and great grandson Leyton; and Mary Lou and Rod Klassen and their two children Brett and Laura. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Morley in 1984 and many in-laws. The funeral service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Shannon McCarthy of Central United Church officiating. Honorary Pallbearers were Muriel's grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a charity of your choice.
NOORT: Berendian (Diane). It is with regret and sorrow that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother on February 11, 2009. Berendina was born in Leiden, The Netherlands, March 11, 1932 and came to Canada in March of 1954, settling in Brandon where she and Dad lived until 1959. They moved to Thompson and lived there until 1974 and from there the family moved to Minnedosa, where she worked as a Nurse's Aide while raising her family. In 1995, she moved to Rivers/Newdale. Mom left us with many fond memories and nothing meant more to her than her family. Mom especially enjoyed traveling, knitting, ceramics, crafts, bingo and the company of her cats. She is survived by her children, daughter Francis (Steve) Young, and her sons Hans (Brenda), Randy (Bonnie), Robert (Michelle) and Richard (Cindy) Noort. Also 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and two brothers and one sister in The Netherlands. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1981, her mother and father, two sisters and one brother. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. A family service will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Rivers Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
ORR: Mrs. Iris Orr (Mom) of Brandon, formerly of Alexander, passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Friday, June 16, 2006 at the age of 83 years. Mom was born July 17, 1922 in Souris, Manitoba. She grew up in Terance with her brother Grant and her Mom and Dad, Mable and Jim Boyd. She went to school at Millan. She married Dad (Matt) in 1940. Dad had come over from Belfast, Ireland and worked as a farm hand for the Winters family. They moved to Alexander in 1943 and raised a family of two boys and eight girls. Mom and Dad moved to Brandon in September 1977 so Mom would be closer to her job at the Brandon General Hospital. Mom loved her job and all the friends she made. She retired at 65 and after her retirement she enjoyed her yard and garden and sitting out on her veranda with her little dog and cat. Mom enjoyed living in Brandon but always referred to Alexander as her home. Mom took great delight in her 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was always interested in their lives. She thoroughly enjoyed family gatherings and seeing everyone. We will fondly remember her for her loving ways and her sense of humor. She is survived by her daughters: Pat, Lorna (Joe), Audrey, Dorothy (Phil), Sylvia, Bev (John), Barbara and daughter-in-law Colleen. She was predeceased by her husband Matt; her brother Grant; her Mom and Dad; her sons John and Jim; her daughter Marilyn; sons-in-law Bob and Harvey, and her great-grandson Steven. A funeral service was held at the Alexander United Church on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating. Interment was in the family plot at Alexander Cemetery. Special thanks to Kurt and the staff at Brockie Donovan.

OTTESEN: Mr. Harry Edgar Ottesen, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the age of 92 years. The graveside service will be held at the Oak Lake Cemetery on Friday, May 23, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at the Griswold United Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating.
OLIVER: Helen Christine Oliver passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on April 20, 2008. Helen was born on January 6, 1932 in the Oakland Municipality. She grew up on the farm in the Rounthwaite district and attended the one-room school until grade eight. Helen moved to Brandon to complete her high school at St. Michael’s Academy where she studied commerce. During her lifetime, Helen worked for the Provincial Exhibition Board, Imperial Taxi and Prairie Oasis. She was Secretary Treasurer for the Princess Park Tenants Association, Prairie Oasis and volunteered at the Traditional Christmas Dinner. Helen enjoyed curling and card games – especially Bridge. She is survived by her brother Jack Stephens of Portage la Prairie, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Helen had many special friends in her life. She was predeceased by her parents George and Polly Oliver. The Funeral Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on April 24, 2008 with Rev. David Cathcart of Knox United Church officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Helen may be made to a charity of choice.
OMELCHUK: John Omelchuk of Brandon, formerly of Minto, passed away peacefully at his residence at Hillcrest Place on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at the age of 82 years. Funeral Service for John will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant Mr. Lawrence McInnes officiating. O’HALLORAN: Helen Fern O’Halloran passed away at her residence at Fairview Home at the age of 82 years on December 31, 2007. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family: son Boyd (Diane) O’Halloran of Brandon, grandson John (Brianne) O’Halloran and a great-grandson Raymond of Spruce Grove, Alberta and grandson Dennis O’Halloran; daughter Bonnie (Ron) Thiele of Red Deer, Alberta and two grand-daughters Allison (Mitchell) Thiele-Callan of London, Ontario and Christine Thiele of Red Deer, Alberta. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Verleana Gerow and Colleen O’Halloran and nephew Don Edwards as well as several other nieces and nephews. Helen was born in Brandon and was raised on the family farm at Beresford, Manitoba. She attended school at Beresford and Souris and later completed her business diploma at Brandon Business College. Helen’s first job was for the Manitoba Liquor Control Board where she worked for seven years until her marriage to John O’Halloran in 1950. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1963. Helen continued her working life in Brandon as a legal secretary and later as a nursing assistant at the Brandon Mental Health Centre until her retirement in 1988. As well as her husband, John, Helen was also predeceased by her parents Harry and Lettie Gerow of Souris, three brothers, Garfield, Cecil and Andrew Gerow and a sister Thelma Edwards. Helen was the last surviving member of the Harry and Lettie Gerow family. The family would like to sincerely thank the 4th floor staff for all the care provided during Helen’s stay at Fairview Home. Funeral Services will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. A reception will be held at the George Brockie Fellowship Centre (south side of Brockie Donovan) following the graveside service. OGG: Marie Louise Ogg of Sandy Lake, Manitoba, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on March 21, 2009 at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home after a long and courageous battle with cancer and dementia. Marie was born at Laurier, Manitoba on October 13, 1920, the youngest of eight children born to Everanda and Alfred Tetrault. Her early years were spent on the family farm. She attended Woodbend School. Marie married Archie Ogg of Makinak, MB on January 3, 1942. They farmed the family farm and had their three children, Dorraine, Roger and Barry. In June 1953, the family moved to Brandon. Marie, Archie and family built their home where Marie lived till October 2006. Marie worked at McKenzie Seeds and Kresge’s and then her ceramic shop. Marie enjoyed the family cottage, fishing, ski-dooing, bowling, playing shuffleboard and cards. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee with Roger and Barry and Cribbage with Dorraine. She won most times. Marie enjoyed her family, grandchildren and especially, great grandchildren. She was a member of the Legion where she had many happy times playing shuffleboard, crib and dancing. Marie was predeceased by her husband Archie in April 1981; her son Roger in January 2005; her parents Everanda and Alfred; three brothers, Alfred, Ernest and Alphonse (Lorna); four sisters, Blanche (Matt), Yvonne (Oswald), Florence (George) and Laura (Philip); brothers-in-law Arthur Ogg, Allen (Angel) Ogg; sister-in-law Jean (Art) Montsoin. Marie is survived and will be missed by her daughter Dorraine (James), her son Barry (Brenda) and daughter-in-law Sharon. Marie has eight grandchildren: Dorraine’s family – Shane (Nancy) Hopkie, Darrin (Melissa ) Hopkie, Bryce Hopkie; Roger’s family – Tammy (Jeff) Wood, Tiffany (Bruce) Waite, Mark (Jodi) Ogg; Barry’s family – Jody (Scott) Ferrier and Erin Ogg. Marie has 14 great grandchildren and one soon to be: Jack, Kyle, Charlie and Joseph Hopkie; Chelsea and Cody Hopkie, Tawni, Jade and Shai Wood, Emily and Abbey Ogg, Cole and Josh Ferrier and Holden Ogg. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Harry (Dora), Don (Sharon); sisters-in-law Rose Marie and Alice (Joe); many nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Brockie Donovan Funeral Celebrant, Mr. Lawrence McInnes, officiating. A private graveside service will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. OSBORNE: Albert Thomas (Ab) Osborne, June 16, 1914 – February 25, 2009. Albert passed away peacefully at Hillcrest Personal Care Home on February 25, 2009 at the age of 94 years. Albert was born and raised on the Osborne farm near Bunclody, Manitoba in the Souris Valley. He farmed there until 1959 when he moved to Brandon and worked for Plains Western Gas Company until he retired. Albert was predeceased by his wife Grace, brothers Dave, Syd, and sisters Elisabeth, Edith and Bertha. He is survived by his nieces and nephews who affectionately knew him as "Uncle Ab." The funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
OSTASH: Donald Larry (May 5, 1959 – Jan 24, 2009) On Saturday, January 24, 2009, Donald Larry Ostash passed away with his family at his side at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon at the age of 49 years. Don is survived by his mother, Jean Ostash of Brandon; brother Nick of Didsbury, AB, sisters Ellen, Brandon, Phyllis (Barry) Shurb, Brandon, Betty (Lloyd), Dauphin, MB; brothers Peter Jr. (Sharon), Brandon, Ernie (Debbie), Edmonton, AB; sister Maxine, Strathclair and brothers Philip (Marilyn), Brandon and Terry (Jean), Brandon; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces. Don was well known for his artwork, ceramics and cooking. Don will be missed by his family and many friends. PARKS: John (Jack) Henry Graham Parks of Riverheights Terrace, Brandon, formerly of the Alexander district, MB. Jack was born 15 November, 1912 in Cookstown, ON and passed peacefully 10 November, 2006 at Brandon, MB. Jack spent his early years between Cookstown, ON and Carnduff, SK. He moved to the Alexander district with his family in the early 1930s. He married Jean Dorothy Hill in December, 1939 and, after returning from overseas, they began farming in the Dalton district, west of Alexander where they continued farming until his retirement in 1994 and their subsequent move to Riverheights Terrace, Brandon in 2001. Jean and Jack enjoyed many winters in the southern U.S., Florida, Texas, and Arizona. Jack's lifelong passion was his family, farming and he was extremely fond of horses. Jack was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge and was always extremely proud of being a member of the Alexander district and surrounding communities. Jack's common sense approach and his reputation for honesty and integrity endeared him to many people both young and old. Jack was predeceased by Jean, his loving wife of 65 years in February, 2005, granddaughter, Jaci, in February, 2000, and his sister, Ida Parks. Jack is survived by his brother, Fred (Evelyn) and family and by his two sons: Gary (Norma), Gene (Gayle), and grandchildren, Kristi (Stan Cherak), Rhett, Chad, and great granddaughter, Taylor, plus many other extended family members. A celebration of Jack's life will take place, Wednesday, 15 November, 2006, at 2:30 p.m. at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, with private interment at the Alexander cemetery at a later date. PLOWMAN: Molly (née Churchill) passed away August 19, 2006 at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, with her family at her side. Molly was born May 8, 1915 in the Elton Municipality. She was the youngest child of Arthur and Lucinda (Kirschner) Churchill. Molly attended the Norman School and received a grade eight education. Molly met John at the Young Peoples’ Group at Creeford Church. They married on November 16, 1940 and farmed in the Douglas area all their lives. They had one son, Wayne. Molly belonged to the WI Group. She loved to work in her garden and around the home yard. She was able to do many tasks set before her, from helping out in the ladies group to driving a grain truck. Molly spent many evenings knitting and doing other needlework projects, which she was still doing at the Assiniboine Centre. John and Molly retired from farming in 1991and moved into an apartment in Brandon. She resided there until her stay in the hospital five months ago. Molly enjoyed going for coffee with her many friends at Wal-Mart. She loved to have her friends and family visit her. Molly loved life and never complained about the cards she was dealt. She never said "Poor me" and always thought of others less fortunate. Molly is survived by her son, Wayne (Linda) of Brandon and their families, Ken and Kate Plowman, Toronto, Lisa Schoonbaert (Richard), Brandon, and their daughters, Ashley and Brenna and also Chris Dunning (Melissa), Edmonton, and sons, Mason and Caelin, Neepawa. Also surviving Molly are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mary and Henry Hlady, Brandon, Albert and Merle Plowman, Brandon, Don and Doreen Plowman, Winnipeg, Rose Knight, Courtney, BC and Grace Plowman, Calgary, AB, along with several special nieces, nephews and cousins. Molly was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Lucinda Churchill, husband, John and brothers, William and Ferdinand Churchill. Her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Olive Plowman, Bert and Leela Plowman, George and Lorette Plowman, Roy Plowman, Gordon Plowman and Joyce and Woodley Prowse also predeceased Molly. A graveside service was held August 23, 2006 at Madford Cemetery in the Elton Municipality.
