FRASER, Kenneth Alexander 1925 – 2006. Following a lengthy illness, Ken passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the age of 80 years. Ken is survived by his wife, Margaret (née Luce), his two daughters, Jill and Barbara Little (Don) and six grandchildren: Kyle, Nancy, Ainsley, Christopher, Jacqueline and Monica. He is also survived by his brother, Gerry (Elvera) of Melfort, Saskatchewan and his sister-in-law, Vern Band of White Rock, BC and their children. Ken was born November 14, 1925, in Riding Mountain, Manitoba. He served in the RCNVR during WWII. He moved to Brandon in 1946 where he met Margaret, his wife of 57 years. For 33 years, Ken worked for (and later owned) Christie School Supply, retiring in 1979, to pursue other interests. In accordance with Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private graveside service was held at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice. FORSTER: Myrna Forster, beloved wife of Robert Forster, and mother to Lana and Michelle, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, September 7, 2006 with her family at her side. Myrna was born June 11, 1959 in Hartney, Manitoba, one of four daughters and two sons to Harvey and Dorothy Myers. Myrna was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy and sister, Judy, whom she missed dearly. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Lana and Michelle; father, Harvey Myers; sisters, Pat (Ken) Gibson and Linda (Louis) Cabernel; brothers, Larry (Janice) Myers and Brad (Maura) Myers and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Myrna grew up in Belmont until the family moved to the Myers family farm. She attended school in Belmont and Glenboro until she moved to Brandon in 1977. She married Robert Forster on April 8, 1978. After Myrna moved to Brandon, she held positions in insurance, retail management and accounting. Most recently Myrna was a business manager and co-owner of Compusmart in Brandon. Myrna took pleasure in her family, golfing, camping, skidooing and her pets. She had a wonderful talent for adding numbers "quicker than a calculator" in her head and drawing nature scenes. Myrna was a great role model for her children and had unconditional love for them. She was a loving and attentive wife. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Dr Lindsay, Dr du Plooy and all the nurses at Palliative Care who cared so lovingly for our mother during her final days. FITZPATRICK- ROMAN: Delia Joyce. Joyce passed away October 2, 2007 at the Erickson Personal Care Home. Born April 17, 1927 at Wakopa, Manitoba. Joyce is the second youngest of 13 children born to John Thomas and Gertrude Mary Whittingham. She was an employee of the Brandon Sun for 15 years, working in the mailroom and supervising the newspaper carriers. She also worked for several years at Stan's IGA on Victoria Avenue East. She was predeceased by her first husband Constable John Clayton Fitzpatrick of Brandon P.D. and two children, Orval Clayton (Skippy), and Maureen Gayle Robertson, as well as ten of her siblings - two infant sisters, Gertie, John, Henry, Violet, Albert, Peggy Beatrice and Bill. She is survived by husband Laverne Roman, Onanole, daughter Valerie Howard (Bill), Teulon, Manitoba and son Garry Fitzpatrick (Sarah), Oak Bluff, Manitoba, as well as five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Tari Perez, Bryant and Marissa in Winston, Oregon, Janet Lambourne (Joseph), Evan and Trace, Teulon, Manitoba and Daniel Robertson (Sher), Lainey of Brandon, Jeremiah and Jared Fitzpatrick. Also sister Pearl Foster of Brandon and brother George Whittingham (Lillian) of Durham, England, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer's Society.
FLEMING, Mildred (1915-2007). Mildred Fleming of Brandon, beloved wife of the late Bill Fleming, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 6, 2007 at the age of 92. Mildred was born in Brandon on May 19, 1915 to Levi & Elsie Hunt, the oldest of four children. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Fleming, brothers Charlie and Arthur Hunt and sister Vi Boewen. She married Bill on November 22, 1950 and together they farmed in Minto for over thirty years until they retired to Brandon on 22nd Street. After her husband’s passing, she moved to the Lions Manor in 2001, then to her final home in Fairview. Mildred is survived by her son Ken Fleming (Judy) of Brandon, daughter Marlene Shipley (Cliff) of Sparwood, BC and son Gary Fleming (Carol) of Minto, 12 Grandchildren and 4 great Grandchildren. Her greatest pleasures were spending time with her children, being very active in the church, singing in numerous choirs and bell playing. She embraced her life with determination and spirit and was always ready for a new challenge. If a family member wanted her to travel she was game, which took her to the East and West Coast from Northern BC to Texas. Later, when she was unable to travel, she thoroughly enjoyed her outings to the family farm for a family wiener roast, card games, bike rides, and bird watching. One night in particular her family could hear her singing the song "In The Good Old Summertime" in her sleep. She had made it very clear that she would some day be singing her way to heaven. Mildred will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Funeral services were held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 with Rev. Harvey Hurren officiating. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery and reception at the Central United Church Auditorium. Active Pallbearers were Grandchildren – Ryan, Trevor and Bryce Fleming and Farrah, Sheila and Candice Shipley. Honorary Pallbearers were Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Mildred’s name to the Arthritis Society, Suite 105, 386 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Fairview Home for the care and support given to mom.
FEHILLY: Donal Patrick Fehilly passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the age of 78 years. He was born on March 8, 1929 in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, the youngest child of John and Ellen Fehilly. Although he was the only one born in England, he took great pride in his Irish heritage. Don was educated in England and after his schooling was complete he proceeded with his commitment to the British Army as a paratrooper. His adventures continued as he took a posting with the British West Africa Bank in the Gold Coast (Ghana) from 1950 – 1954. He then immigrated to Canada in 1955, landing in Toronto. In that same year he began working on the D.E.W. (Distant Early Warning) Line in the Canadian Arctic. It was while working and commuting on the D.E.W. Line that he met Victoria Iwacha, and they were married in 1963. Winnipeg became their home and this is where Don began his lifelong career in the auto insurance business. In 1964, Victoria and Don welcomed twins, John and Kathleen. Their younger brother Michael was born in 1966. In 1967, Don was proud to become a Canadian Citizen. After moving to Edmonton and Vancouver, the family settled in Brandon, Manitoba where Don worked for M.P.I. from 1976 until his retirement in 1995. Don’s associations were widespread from coaching and refereeing soccer to many volunteer hours with the Wheat City Lions Club and later the Centennial Lions Club. He and Victoria spent three months of every year in the southern USA where they loved to dance, golf, hike and enjoy all the sights and sounds. Don spent many weekends and weeknights watching his children play in a variety of sports such as basketball, volleyball, badminton and hockey – he never missed a game for any of them. He was their biggest fan. Donal was predeceased by his beloved son Michael, father John and mother Ellen, brothers Charles, John, and sister Lillian. He is survived by his loving wife Victoria, his son John (Corinne) and grandchildren Jordan and Erin of Beausejour, MB, daughter Kathleen (Glen) and grandchildren Maeve and Luke of Saskatoon, SK, daughter-in-law Caryn and granddaughter Miranda of Sidney, Montana, sisters Rita Cunliffe of England and Eileen Duckworth of Australia. Prayers were held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Monday, May 28, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, presided by Father Dominic Yuen. Pallbearers were Glen Douglas, Jordan Fehilly, Roger Cain, Bryan Halley, Les Ewacha and Russell Smyrichinsky. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the coordinators, staff, nurses and health care aides of the Brandon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Service for their compassionate care. Also thank you to Brockie Donovan, the Catholic Women’s League for a wonderful lunch and to the many friends, co-workers and family members who traveled from near and far to attend. FLEMING: William "Bill" Fleming, beloved husband of Audrey of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the age of 82 years. Bill was born on December 17, 1924 in Brandon, Manitoba, son of Walter and Mary. He remained in Brandon until the age of 17 when he joined the Air Force and went overseas from 1941-1946. Upon his return to Canada, Bill worked out west on a seismic crew for a while, then decided to return home to Brandon. In 1954, Bill was united in marriage to Audrey Wright. The couple, along with two sets of twins, farmed for several years in the Westman region. On their return to the city, Bill worked as a milkman, was in the catering service and then a city bus driver until his retirement. Although Bill had many interests, his passion was music. He played several instruments and enjoyed entertaining others. Bill and Audrey celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on October 10, 2004. Bill was predeceased by his parents, great granddaughter, Taylor Fleming, brother-in-law, Leonard Wright and sister-in-law, Evelyn Collett. He leaves to mourn his passing, and celebrate his life, his loving wife, Audrey; three sons and a daughter: Dan (Kim) Mitchell, Bryan, Krissy, Jamie and Cassie; Ron (Brenda), Billy Joe, Jesse and Luke; David, Mark and Matthew; Diane, Stacy and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Audrey (Don) Simpson, brother-in-law, Glen (Olive) Wright as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ted Jannuska of Redeemer Lutheran Church officiating. FLOYD: Mrs. Carolyn May Floyd of Brandon, formerly of Thunder Bay, Ontario, dear mother of Juli Finlay, Shannon (Phil) Vickers and Heidi (Cory) Hamm, grandmother of Jessica and Sarah Vickers and sister of John Crittall, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the age of 65 years. A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515-6th Street, on Monday, April 9, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating. Interment will follow in Thunder Bay, Ontario in May of 2007. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in memory of Carolyn may be made to W.A.T.C.H. FORSTER: Ruth (née Cranston). We regret to announce the passing of Ruth Forster peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Hillcrest Personal Care Home in Brandon in her 93rd year. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Reg, and by 6 sisters and 5 brothers. She is survived by one brother, Clifford (Eunice) of Winnipeg and one sister-in-law, Ruth of Edmonton, and several nieces and nephews and their families. Ruth was born in Brandon on October 31, 1914. She was educated in Brandon and resided most of her married life in Melita and latterly Brandon. She enjoyed many happy winters in Mesa, Arizona. At her request, cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held. Burial will take place in the Brandon Cemetery.
FAWCETT: Margaret Anne (Marguerite, Marge) passed away suddenly and peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on January 5, 2007 at age 88. Marguerite was born in Acadieville, New Brunswick on July 23,1918 during a severe thunderstorm. She was the sixth child of fourteen children born to Marie Agnes and Frederic Daigle. Mom grew up and was educated in the Miramichi Region. Marguerite was a gifted child and could read French and English prior to starting school. She was an excellent student and was often at the head of the class. She was also an avid reader and loved to read as many books as she could get her hands on. Mom’s faith was an important part of her upbringing. Marguerite grew up in a home filled with love, laughter, and music, singing and dancing. She helped her mother with the care of her younger siblings, especially her youngest twin sisters, Maria & Eva. Mom worked as a maid or childcare worker after leaving home at 19. She learned to speak English during this time. Mom moved to Moncton and worked as a waitress during the final years of World War II. This was where she first met her future husband, Stanley Ray. After a move to Montreal, Quebec to work, she reunited with Dad. They were married in Ottawa, Ontario on August 31, 1946. Their early-married life was spent in the Ottawa area. Their first four children, Sharron, Patrick, Carole and Daniel, were born prior to Ray’s enlistment in the Army in 1950. There were six postings throughout Canada in Dad’s military career. Two more children, Paul and Shawn, were born during their first two postings. Mom was a very strong and versatile woman, able to cope and adapt with all these changes in her life. Over the years and through all the moves she maintained her love of life and family, friends, her faith and her wonderful sense of humor and feistiness. Mom was a very special Lady. She could find humor in just about every situation. She was noted for her quick wit and a joy to be around. Mom also had the gift of gab and could speak on just about any subject with knowledge she learned from the many books she read. She also had the special knack to stop and take the time to listen to anyone who needed advice or counsel. Mom had the gift of being a friend or surrogate Mom to many people, young and old. She instilled self-confidence and self worth in all her children and grandchildren. Mom and Dad were extremely proud of their six children and nine grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Whenever possible there were many visits to see family. There were many road trips across Canada; many included camping along the way. One of her last trips was with Dad, traveling to The Big Valley Jamboree in Saskatchewan, camping in the back of their van. During their later years as their health was failing, Dad enjoyed looking after Mom and treating her like a Queen. Family and friends affectionately knew her as Her Royal Highness. Dad was Stan The Butler, and looked after Mom until his death. Now Mom, Her Royal Highness will be reunited with her Stan The Butler. Son, Paul continued looking after Mom in her home until her peaceful death. Margaret will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family and many dear friends. Margaret was predeceased by husband of 59 years, Stanley Ray, parents Marie Agnes and Frederic Daigle, 7 brothers and 4 sisters. Dearly missed by daughter Sharron (Fred) Sluiter & grandsons Andrew & Jeffery, son Patrick (Thuy), daughter Carole (Melvin) Black & granddaughter Ashley, grandsons Justin & Greg, son Dr Daniel (Dr Maria), & grandson Joseph, son Paul, son Shawn (Jackie), & granddaughters Mikayla & Mackenzie, grandson Drew, sisters Flavie Pineau, Maria Légère, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Celebration of Life Service was held January 10, 2007 at the Brockie Donovan Chapel with Canon Joy Ruddock officiating. Pallbearers were son-in-law and grandsons Melvin, Justin, Greg Black, and brother-in-law Frank Black. Interment followed in her husband’s plot in the Veterans’ Section of the Brandon Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the staff of 400 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, Dr. S. J. Duncan for all their care and kindness to Margaret. FLEMINGTON: Harold David Flemington passed away at Hillcrest Place, on Friday, January 5, 2007. Harold was born to Ella Greenlay and Charles Flemington at NE Sec. 33-5-27 in the Albert Municipality on September 25, 1920. He was the youngest in the family, having four sisters and two brothers: Muriel and Jack Davidson, Walter, Julia and Andy Johnson, Mildred and Frank Cooper, Evelyn and Don Drake and John and Dora. Harold’s parents, brothers, sisters and spouses predeceased him. He was the last of that generation. Harold loved watching sports, playing crokinole and reading his bible. He went to Bible School. He worked at home and for farmers. Harold also worked for 18 years at Shilo, in the janitorial department. He spent the last four years in Hillcrest Place, with care and kindness, upholding and supporting him all the way. Harold leaves behind nieces and nephews, Donna and John Howden and family, Lloyd Flemington, Gary and Faith Johnson, Florence and Lloyd Mallet, Marie and Rinus Bergman-Flemington and Al and Joyce Cooper, as well as many, many nieces and nephews and family spread across Canada and The Netherlands. The funeral service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Thursday, January 11, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Davis of Bethel Christian Assembly officiating. Pallbearers were Lloyd Flemington, John Howden, Gary Johnson, Brad Howden, Dick Jones, Donna Howden and Danny Cooper. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. FAIRBAIRN: It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved Mother, Darlene Fairbairn, who passed away on June 7th, 2008 after a long and courageous struggle with MS. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law Robyn and Rick McGowan and Marni and Travis Loewen. As well as her cherished grandchildren Brielle and Braedyn McGowan, by her brother Lloyd Shelvey and Rev. Steve Wilson, sister Diane Powell, nieces Stacey, Jodi and Nicole Powell, by a large extended family and many friends, and not to forget, her best cat Ruff. Darlene was predeceased by her husband of 32 years Calvin Fairbairn in 2005, her parents Bert and Kay Shelvey, her infant brother Albert Murray and her brothers-in-law Garth Powell and Darrel Forke. Darlene was born September 16th, 1952 in Brandon, MB and grew up on the family farm in the R.M. of Elton. She received her formal education at Mt. Vernon and Elton School where she loved to socialize and met many life long friends, especially Shirley. She later worked at Fedoruks Groceries where she met her lifetime companion. Calvin and Darlene married June 30th, 1973. They continued to live in Brandon where they raised their children Robyn and Marni. Darlene loved being a mother, and enjoyed doing the simple things in life with her husband and daughters. She liked to cheer on Cal's baseball team, play bingo, go fishing, and she welcomed all to her home and greatly enjoyed just hanging around the kitchen table chatting with the girls. Mom was our best friend. Darlene also took great pride in being a grandmother. Her love for Brielle and Braedyn gave her more strength in fighting MS. She loved watching them grow and sharing ice cream cones with them along the way. Darlene was diagnosed with MS about ten years ago. She continued her journey with courage and hope. As her disease progressed, she became more dependent and appreciative of the care she received from her family and her home care workers. Her cheery "I'm fine", encouraged all to reflect positively upon, and to accept life's blessings. A celebration of Darlene's life will be held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel, 332-8th Street, on Friday, June 13th, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. followed by interment in the family plot at Humesville Cemetery. FIELDS: Mr. Lance Edward Fields. June 4th, 1917 – May 6th, 2009. Also known as "Gracie" and "Uncle Bill". Lance passed away at the Souris Hospital on Wednesday, May 6th at the age of 91 years. He was the youngest son born to George and Nancy Fields in Alexander, MB. He was predeceased by his father George, his mother Nancy, his brother Welly and his wife Betty, his brother Dick (Richard), his sister Nora and her husband Duncan Paige, and sister Mae and her husband Fin Pollock. Lance was also predeceased by niece Leona Harrison, nephew Jimmie Paige and great nephew Craig Beaumont. Lance is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Lance served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in England and Europe from 1940 – 1946. After the war he made his home in Souris until his passing. A graveside funeral for family and friends was held at the Alexander Cemetery (the family plot) on Thursday, May 14th, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Marvin Beaumont officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, a donation may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
