Ingeborg Hellesoe

Peacefully on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Portage & District General Hospital, Inga Hellesoe, widow of the late Hans Hellesoe, passed away at the age of 92 years with her family by her side..
Inge was born on March 31, 1922 in Felsted, Denmark to Paul and Emma Hauke.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 70 years, Hans Christian Hellesoe, and grand-daughter Roxanne Hellesoe.
Left to cherish Inge’s memory are her children; Johan (Diane), Rona, Jyette (Jack) Johnston, Djon (Janice), Henning (Crystal) and Marianne.
Also her sister Marie Haines of Denmark, 22 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Grandma had a deep love for her Heavenly Father and became a baptized Jehovah’s Witness in 1962, along side her husband.
She strongly believed in the promise in Rev. 21:3 – 4.
Grandma was a model to everyone who was privileged to know her.
She was a very loving, compassionate and generous person.
Her door and heart were always open and she became known to many as Mom and Granny.
Grandma was an amazing cook and baker and had an amazing green thumb. We will always remember her beautiful flower gardens.
Grandma had an intense love of nature. Her favourites being black bears and bald eagles.
“See you pretty soon, Granny” A private family burial will be held in East Braintree, Manitoba
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Kingdon Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2360 Sissons Drive, Portage la Prairie, MB.
If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Watchtower Bible & Tract Society at www.jw.org or The Portage & District Hospital Foundation, 524 Fifth Street S.E., Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 3A8

Devona Noreen Treffry

Devona Treffry passed away peacefully at the Portage and District General Hospital on Friday, January 2, 2015 at the age of 75 years.
She is predeceased by her parents Gordon and Eleanor Fournie, sister Leona Mayes and brother-in-law Elwyn Mayes.
Devona leaves behind her daughter Kathee (Darryl) Thurston of MacDonald, MB., grandchildren Samantha Thurston of Calgary, Alberta and Nicholas Thurston of MacDonald, son Scott Treffry of Portage la Prairie, grandson Damian Hofer, Debbie Folk, her husband Kelly and son Nathan Smith of Brandon, MB, and one brother Foster Fournie of Melita, MB.
At Devona’s request, there will be no service and a private family event will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
Mom will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbours and especially by her best friend “Chubbs”.
A special “Thank You” to Carol Brooks and Bob Foster for always being there.
Your our guardian angel, Mom, sitting on our shoulder,
Whispering your words of wisdom to us as we get older.
We don’t want to say “Good bye” but we’ll meet again someday,
We’ll pick up where we left off, before you went away.

Arthur Louis Cote

Peacefully on Sunday, December 21st at the Portage General Hospital with family by his side, Art passed away at the age of 86 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Art was born in Portage la Prairie on October 2, 1928, the son of Delia and Pierre Cote.
He was raised in the Wingham district where he met and married his sweetheart, Violet Nichols on July 18, 1953. They raised their family there.
Art farmed and drove school bus until 1970 when the family moved to Portage la Prairie.
In 1978 they returned to the Wingham district.
Art worked as a carpenter for many years and worked on many large construction projects in Portage such as the building of the Portage Diversion, McCains, Canoat and the Provincial building.
He was always willing to help his children with any of their construction projects. He was known as a dedicated and hard working man.
Art enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, ski-dooing, cutting wood, gardening, attending auction sales, watching hockey and listening to country music and would even play a tune on his guitar from time to time.
He enjoyed doing anything that involved spending time with his family especially with his best friend Violet.
Art was predeceased by his parents, son Larry in 1993, grandson Mikey Cote in 2002, brothers Gerard, Paul, Napoleon (Beatrice), George (Muriel), Wilfred (Marguerite) and sisters Elise (Elzear Boulet) and Cecile (Lucien Buisson).
In laws Rose and Wallace Nichols, brother in law Rod Nichols, sister and brother in law Carol and Ovide Labossiere.
Left to mourn are his wife Violet of 61 years, children Roland (Vicki), Louise (Romeo) Morisseau, Don (Debbie), Rene (Marilyn), Cathy (Donnie) Wright, Barry (Kathy Cherkas) and Audrey White, 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Service will be held Tuesday, December 23rd at the Herman Prior Centre at 1:30 p.m.
If so desired Donations may be made in memory of Arthur to the Parkinson’s Society of Manitoba 7 – 414 Westmount Drive, Winnipeg, MB. R2J 1P2
Viewing will be one hour prior to the service.

Marjorie June Hillman

Peacefully, with family by her side Marjorie June Hillman (nee McDougall) passed away December 10, 2014 at the Portage General Hospital.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Donald and Dorothy McDougall of Edwin, brother Ralph, sister Millie Galbraith, brother Stan, son Gerald, sister Dorothy Quam and husband Lorne.
Left to mourn are; her daughter Rilla (Dave) Curtis, Son Ray (Penny), son Gary (Maureen), sister-in-law Phyllis McDougall, brother Glen (Elva), brother Jack (Lorna), brother Neil (Sharon), and sister-in-law Frieda Hunt, grandchildren Tara Hall (Joe), Melissa Hillman, David Hillman (Roxanne), Ken Hillman (Shannon), Tristan Curtis and Travis Curtis, great grandchildren Donovan, Autumn, Austin, Jace, Caleb, Emery and Khloe as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends!
Mom’s passion in life was flower gardening, her love was for children and grandchildren and her special gift to the world was to be your best friend!
A service and celebration of her life will be held at the Herman Prior Centre in Portage on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 p. m. with the Reverend Steve Wilson Officiating.
A reception will follow the service.

Alice Nadon

With her loving family by her side, Alice Nadon beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home in Portage la Prairie at the age of 85 years following a spirited and courageous battle with cancer.
Alice was born on the family homestead Sprucedale Farm in Lennard, Manitoba on June 12, 1929, one of ten siblings raised by Nestor and Paulina Onufreiciuc.
She was predeceased by her first husband Roy Wooley, second husband Wilf Nadon and special companion Stan Janiski; a son in infancy; brothers Martin Onufreciuk and Jimmy Onufrechuk; sisters Martha Liske and Marion Boucher; and son-in-law Doug Connery.
Alice will be remembered for her spunk and energy, her home cooked meals and her baking.
Never did a day go by without a pie or cake in the oven and her cookies were most sought after even from as far away as Palm Springs.
She enjoyed gardening and growing her own vegetables, dancing and later just listening to old time polkas while enjoying a cold one.
Alice was a proud Rebekah and past Grand Noble of the Portage Ruth Rebekah Lodge No. 3.
She enjoyed the company of friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the friendships made and time spent while wintering in Texas.
Alice will be sadly missed by her children, daughter Aldene (Barry) Moroz, daughter Paulette Connery and son Brad Nadon; grandchildren Justin Moroz, Jordan Moroz, Jarrett (Susie) Connery, Sheri (Dusty) Connery and great grandchildren Arlo, Violet, Austin and Liam who all had a special place in her heart.
She is also survived by sisters Violet (Paul) Flundra, Vicki Ulrich and Elaine Onufreiciuc; brothers Peter Onufrechuk and David (Phyllis) Onufrechuk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Dr. Kit Hunter, Dr. Lou Antonissen, Dr. Brett Finney and Dr. Jim Ross for their exceptional care over the past several years.
Special thanks also to Adele McMurray from Sunset Palliative Care and the homecare nurses and aides for their special daily care and attention the last few months.
In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation will take place and her ashes will be interred next to her first husband Roy.
A time of remembrance and fellowship will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14 at the Portage Oddfellows Hall, 151 Royal Road N., Portage la Prairie.
Condolences can be sent to Box 112 Station Main, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 3B2.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Sunset Palliative Care, Box 92, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 3B2 or the Community Foundation of Portage and District, Box 1153, Portage la Prairie MB R1N 3J9 are appreciated.

Dorothy Salzsauler

A Grave Side service for the late Dorothy Salzsauler, who passed away on February 9, 2015 will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Friends are welcome to meet at the cemetery and attend the service.

Asa Lillian Reid

On April 16, 2015, the heart of our family, Asa Lillian Reid (nee Johnson) peacefully passed away after enduring a lengthy series of illnesses.
She faced these illnesses with the same grace and fortitude as she did towards her entire life.
Born in Riverton, Manitoba on May 18, 1937, Asa was always a kind and generous woman with a heart of gold, loved by all who knew her.
She was always so proud of her Icelandic heritage.
Asa chose to move from her hometown and reside & work in communities such Longburn, Westbourne, Macdonald and finally Portage la Prairie.
She was well suited for her career of teaching which spanned more than 30 years.
Her passion for learning and her genuine care and love was shared with all of her students, children and grandchildren.
Asa loved all of her family unconditionally.
Always staying in touch with as many as she could, showed her devotion to all she loved.
She was always there to offer a hug, love and support no matter what.
For those who knew her, we know not only the gentle and thoughtful nature she had but also her never ending strength and determination to stand for who or what she believed in.
Let us not forget her legendary sweet tooth.
Asa will be dearly missed by those she left behind, her loving husband Walter, her daughter Glynis & partner Kevin, her son Darwin and other daughter (in law) Kathy, her four grandchildren Megan and John (Glynis) and Devin and Tristan (Darwin & Kathy), and her dear brother Danny, as well as many extended family members including in laws, cousins, nieces & nephews on both the Johnson and Reid sides of the families.
In Valhalla, Asa will join her parents, Gisli & Bjorg, her dear brothers, Siggi and Gisli, as well as her beloved sister Gunna.
As per her wishes, we are having a service for Asa at the Riverton Cemetery on Thursday April 23, 2015 at 1:00pm followed immediately by a luncheon at the Riverton Hnausa Lutheran Church in Riverton, Manitoba.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to either charity, Cancer Care Manitoba or The Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Lily, you will be forever in our hearts. Til we meet again…

Allan Preston

Allan Preston passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the age of 99 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Ellen Preston, siblings – Stan, Harry, Jack, Bob, Margaret, Ernie, Florence and Billy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 75 years, Edythe (nee Webb) 5 children – Margaret (Charles Kilcup), Judith (Mick Cochrane), Joantha (Howard McCluskey), Bob (Chris) and Sonya (Bob Bereza), 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
At Allan’s request there will be no formal funeral service. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Thanks for the care and compassion of the staff on Walker Road at the Lions Manor.
Should friends so desire, memorial donations to the Lions Prairie Manor Inc. 24 Ninth Street S. E., Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 3V4 would be appreciated.
