PETER N. FRIESEN
Oct. 8, 1927 - June 24, 2003
Peacefully, June 24, 2003 at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, with family at his side, Dad went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife Maria of 55 years; and seven children: John (Helen) Friesen of Steinbach, Man., Hilda (Abe) Doerksen of Steinbach, Elvira (Peter) Fehr of Grunthal, Man., Agnes (Don) Kehler of Steinbach, Ellen (Bob) Toews of Mississauga, Ont., Marina (Duane) Schultz of Steinbach, Peter Friesen of Toronto, Ont.; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and his brother George (Esther) of St. Paul, Alta.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Aganetha Friesen; three brothers, Martin, John and Neil; and grandson Stephen Doerksen.
Dad was born Oct. 8, 1927 in Niverville, Man., and married our mother Aug. 24, 1947. Dad liked adventure and it was this that moved them to Paraguay in 1948. They returned to Canada in 1974.
In his retirement years, Dad enjoyed hunting, fixing clocks and sewing machines. He loved fixing things for his family, whom he deeply cherished. Dad was a conqueror - he faced many battles in his lifetime, but he conquered them all.
Dad gave us many precious memories. The day before the Lord took him home, he called his family together and we shared a glorious farewell. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kaethler and the staff at Bethesda Hospital for their excellent care. Also special thanks to Pastor Ed Wiebe for his encouragement and faithful visits, and to Bernice Friesen for her love and care.
Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, Friday, June 27 from 7 to 7:30 p.m., with a devotional to follow. The funeral service for Peter N. Friesen will be held Saturday June 28, 2 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

JOHN D. WIEBE
Peacefully, June 24, 2003 at Victoria Hospital, with family at his side, John D. Wiebe of Winnipeg, Man., beloved husband of Lillian, died at the age of 79 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lilly-Ann (Pete Loewen); and five sons, Jack (Marcedith), Gerald (Louise), Bill (Julie), Andrew (Lorainne), Rodney (Colleen); 16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, relatives, many friends and other special people.
Special thanks go out to the staff at the Victoria Hospital for their loving care, Pastor Ralph Unger for praying and reminiscing with dad, and to all of you who prayed in the last while.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 27, 1 p.m., at Morrow Gospel Church, 755 St. Anne's Rd, Winnipeg, with Pastors Dave Dyck and Jake Froese officiating. Carrying their father's body to his final resting place at Mennonite Memorial Gardens are his children.

EARL DENNIS RECKSIEDLER
Earl Dennis Recksiedler, born Jan. 5, 1940, finally succumbed to his struggle with prostate cancer on March 21, 2004 at Bethesda Hospital. Earl's loss will be deeply felt by his wife Ruby; his son Greg (and Carmelle) Recksiedler; Ruby's son Kenny (and Andrea) Rosza; Ruby's daughter Tammy (and Tom) Hebel; his brother Ervin (and Eleanor) Recksiedler; his sisters: Irene (and Ed) Pokrant, Audrey (and Ross) Feeney, Myrtle (and Art) Ganske; and his grandchildren: Stephanie, Tiffany, Courtney, Dayna, Kelsey, Jordan, Shane, Tiffany and Cole. Earl was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Martha ("Marty"), who died in 1981; his father Daniel, who died in 1966; and mother Elsie, who died in 2001.
Earl had lived a very full life in his far too short time with us. From his younger days, when he was a top junior hockey player scouted by N.H.L. teams, to his later years, in which he curled ("Earl the Pearl" with draw weight in his back pocket) in the winter and umpired in the summer, Earl's involvement in our community was second to none. He spent many dedicated years of service with the Steinbach Kinsmen and the Steinbach Curling Club, both of which he managed as president. Earl later lent his time and limitless energy to the Lions Club and Steinbach Legion. Earl pledged his faith in service as treasurer of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for numerous years as well. Earl was known as a man who would never say "No" to a friend, family member or community in need.
Earl was raised in Sewell, Man., on a farm with his brother and three sisters. He would later grow to become an Engineer with Manitoba Highways, for which he worked until retirement. Earl was far too active to stay retired however, as he decided to work part-time for Marvin Windows during the fall months. He also became a central figure in a multitude of Sprague Senior's programs and the "Watkins" man for the entire Sprague and Piney community.
Earl's love for family and friends was apparent to all who knew him. He had entered palliative care in August, 2003, and he must have set a record for personal visits. There were so many days where the visitors numbered 30 or more and he'd tell each one of them that he was feeling "no pain". Earl was such a shining example of courage and strength as he relied on his faith in the Lord. The family wants to thank everyone for their visits and support, as well as the nurses with whom he joked and bantered.
Earl touched the heart of everyone he met. For those of you, and there are so many, who will miss him, take comfort in the fact that he was set to meet his Maker. He had taken his last communion only a few days before his passing. He was ready to go and now he truly feels "no pain".

ELIZABETH R. REIMER
Elizabeth R. Reimer was born May 11, 1916 to Cornelius P. and Maria Reimer in Clearspring, Man. She attended the Clearspring District School. On July 5, 1936 she was baptized by Rev. Peter P. Reimer and took up membership in the Blumenort E.M. Church. She grew up on the family mixed farm in the Clearspring area. She was a hard worker, helping with farm chores like milking, stooking, herding cows, and so on. She had the pleasure of taking several trips to Mexico to visit family members. Life was difficult after her father passed away in 1946 and eventually the family farm was sold. Together with her mother and several siblings, she moved to the Landmark, Man. area. Here she resided with her brother David till they moved to Oakwood Place in Blumenort.
She passed away March 17, 2004 shortly after midnight, having reached the age of 87 years. She is survived by two brothers, David R. Reimer and Abram (Margaret) Reimer; three sisters, Margaret Reimer, Anna Friesen, Sarah (Albert) Brandt; sister-in-law Olga Friesen; and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for their care of Elizabeth during her last month.
The funeral service was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Saturday, March 20, 2004. Interment at Blumenort Cemetery.

FERN JOSEPH DE MONTIGNY
After a lengthy battle with leukemia, Fern passed away at the Health Sciences Centre, March 22, 2004, at the age of 78 years.
Fern is survived by his wife of 48 years, Beverley; three sons, Dennis of California, Fern Jr. (Carrie), Darrell (Christa); two daughters, Deborah (Darryl) and Dawn (Charlie); grandchildren, Kim, Kristoffer, Whitney, Crystal, Lucas; great-grandchildren, Quinn, Maggie, Jordan, Braiden, Brooklyn; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Fern was born Sept. 30, 1925 in Ste. Anne, Man. and lived 25 years in Transcona, Man. He drove for the White Ribbon Bus Lines from 1950 to 1955, and then started driving for the Greyhound Bus Service from 1956 to retirement in 1988.
Fern was a loving husband and a family man; we all enjoyed 35 years at the cottage at Rush Bay. Mom and Dad also enjoyed six wonderful years at Paradise Village, where they had a lot of great times and made a lot of good friends.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 26, 1 p.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg, Man.
The family would like to thank Dr. Galbraith, Dr. Johnston, the senior investigator at the Institute of Cell Biology, Dr Lemoine, Dr. de Moissac and the special nursing staff of Ste. Anne Hospital, H.S.C. and CancerCare Manitoba for all their care and consideration to Fern over the years.

HENRY SUDERMAN
Henry Suderman was born in Foxwarren, Man., March 30, 1928. He married Annie Unger on June 12, 1954. Henry provided faithfully and lovingly for his wife and five children. Dad was known for the high level of self-sacrifice, always putting the needs of his family and friends before his own. His humility was demonstrated not in words but through his actions. There was no job that was below his dignity and every task given him was faithfully and completely discharged. Most of the residents of Niverville, Man. can bear witness to his dedication in eagerly pursuing his self-appointed duties of keeping the streets of Niverville clean. He willingly and faithfully served the residents of Niverville without ever being asked, in the same manner in which he lovingly served his family.
March 22, 2004 his humble duties and acts of sacrificial love ended and his work was completed. He had endured the ravages of cancer bravely and patiently till the end. He will undoubtedly be missed by the residents of the Town of Niverville. Faithful to the end, he will be greatly missed by his children, Anne (John) Hiebert, Henry (Linda) Suderman, Ken (Judy) Suderman, Gerald Suderman, and Brian (Shelley) Suderman. Henry Suderman was also grandfather to 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife Annie in 1998.
The funeral service will be held Friday, March 26, 2004, 2 p.m., at the Heritage Center in Niverville. Interment at Niverville Cemetery.

D. BRETT SOBERING
Friday, April 1, 2005, Brett Sobering, aged 29 years, put out in his boat on the Kootenay Lake. His overturned boat was recovered, however, Brett has not yet been found. He is listed as missing and presumed drowned. Trying to cope are his Mom and Dad, Doug and Marlene, and his brother Steven and wife Melanie, all of Beausejour, Man.; his Oma Helen Derksen of Steinbach, Man.; as well many aunties, uncles, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents, Albert and Bernice Sobering; his Opa Eugene Derksen; and his uncle Randy Sobering.
Brett was born Feb. 20, 1976 in Winnipeg, Man., and attended Darwin School in St. Vital. He then went to Beausejour Elementary School and graduated from Edward Schreyer School. After graduation, he traveled in his VW van and toured Canada and the United States, following the band PHISH. He experienced many adventures, and after coming back to Beausejour for a short time, was lured to the Kooteney Mountains. He fell in love with the lake and mountains and made Gray Creek his home. Never one to follow a traditional lifestyle, he, by himself, and with a little help from his brother Steven and his dad, built a straw bale house.
Diagnosed with schizophrenia, life was not always easy for Brett, but he was still able to live independently and be part of his community.
A wake in Brett's honour was held at the Gray Creek Hall in the Kootenay Mountains, Saturday, April 16.
A memorial service will be held at the Sobering Funeral Chapel, Park Avenue E., Beausejour, Man., Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m., with Rev. Hugh Laidlaw officiating.

JACOB F. PENNER
Jan. 4, 1950 - April 27, 2005
Wednesday, April 27, 2005, Jacob F. Penner left his earthly home to spend eternity with his heavenly Father.
Jake was born in Altona, Man., Jan. 4, 1950, to Peter H. and Maria Penner. Aug. 28, 1971 he married Helen Krahn, his wife of almost 34 years. They enjoyed walks, checking roads and traveling with their new camper. Jake was a very dedicated father to Russ, Rick and Robyn. He was very proud of his daughter-in-law Dorothy and son-in-law Clint. He was always very supportive of his children's endeavors and gave wisdom and guidance where necessary. His face really lit up when his grandkids were around. He loved them very much and was sad not to be able to see them his last week in the hospital.
Jake enjoyed many years of beef farming and custom baling with his father and brother Neil. These were also great opportunities to work with his sons. He was very dedicated to his work. After working some odd jobs, he started with Diamond Redi-Mix, where he worked for over 20 years. Then in 1991 he started with the Rural Municipality of Hanover as the public works superintendent, where he worked until a few weeks before he passed away. At times he faced strong criticism from the public, which he very patiently let roll off his back, having the confidence in knowing that he and his crew were doing the best job they could possibly do. He thoroughly enjoyed the people he worked with and appreciated their hard work and dedication, which made his job so much easier.
Jake was predeceased by his father, Peter H. Penner, in 1996; his father-in-law, John F. Krahn, in 1999; and his youngest brother, John, in 2000. Jake will lovingly be remembered by his wife Helen; children, Russ (Dorothy) and their children Zoey, Jacob and Micah of Lac du Bonnet, Man., Rick at home, and Robyn (Clint) Plett of Thunder Bay, Ont. He is also survived by his mother, Maria Penner, and four brothers and their families: Henry (Fern) of Winnipeg, Man., Dave (Linda) of Stony Plain, Alta., Neil (Lavonna) of Kleefeld, Man. and Peter (Laurie) of Red Deer, Alta.; as well as his mother-in-law, Margaret Krahn of Grunthal, Man.; sister and brothers-in-law, Margaret (Otto) Funk of Niverville, Man., John (Edna) Krahn of Steinbach, Man., and Mary and Abe Funk of Grunthal; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church. Interment at the Rosengard CMC Cemetery.

SYLVIA REMPEL nee: Schalla
Sylvia Rempel of Mitchell, Man. suddenly, but peacefully, passed away at the Bethesda Hospital, Friday, April 29, 2005.
Sylvia was born Dec. 21, 1943 in Steinbach, Man. to John and Lillian Schalla.
Oct. 21, 1972 she married Frank Peter Rempel. They bought a house in Mitchell and made it their home, where they raised four children together: Eugene (Jane), Barb (Myron), Vicki (Mark) and Candace (Joe).
Sylvia was blessed with nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris), Charlene (Jake) Amanda (Alan - friend), Landon, Amy, Myles, Jennah, Aaron and Savannah. Sylvia also leaves behind three brothers, Wilbert, Gordon, and Clifford; two sisters, Bev and Janet; and many nieces and nephews.
Sylvia was predeceased by her parents, John and Lillian; two sisters, Alice and Jackie; and one brother-in-law Erwin.
Sylvia enjoyed having her family and friends around her. She spent many enjoyable hours working in the greenhouse and canning and cooking for those she loved. She loved conversation with those who called and getting together with friends whom she touched deeply.

We miss you, but know we will reunite with you again in heaven.

Sept. 24, 1927 - April 29, 2005
Eleonore passed away at St. Paul's Hospital, Vancouver, B.C., at the age of 77 years. She is survived by her husband, John; four daughters: Rosalinda, Lili, Angelika, Gabrielle; two sons: Fred and Jonathan; as well as five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church, 505 - 46th Ave. E., Vancouver, Friday, May 6, 2005 at 11 a.m.

ELIZABETH FRIESEN
(nee Friesen)
1926 - 1953
Suddenly, Jan. 23, 1953, at the Morris Community Hospital, eight days after the birth of her second son.
She was survived by her parents, Mr and Mrs John R. Friesen of Kleefeld, Man.; husband Dave of Rosenhoff, Man.; sons, Leslie and Eldon. Also left to mourn her passing were sisters, Elma and husband Henry B. Dueck, Rosaline and husband Isaac J. Loewen, Matilda and husband Abe B. Eidse, Marion, Carol, Myrna; and brothers, Ronald and Lawrence.
She has been sadly missed by her entire family.
