JENNIE NORDSTOM

Sadly, we announce the passing of Jennie Nordstrom of Sprague, our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother and Friend, on May 16, 2002 at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, at the age of 90 years, with family at her side.

She will be lovingly remembered by three sons: Arnold (Selma), Lawrence (Ruth), Clarence (Fern); three daughters: Lillian Hebel (John), Mary Klippenstein (David) Elaine Tosberg (Karl); one daughter-in-law, Marie Nordstrom (Lloyd, deceased); 23 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law: Betty Nordstrom, Florence Olson, Sophie Anderson and Lillian Norman, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Jennie was predeceased by her husband John on Oct. 16, 1963, her parents, one son, Lloyd, one granddaughter, Rhea, five brothers and one sister.

Jennie was born to Peter and Clara Maria (Palm) in Sprague, MB on Feb. 6, 1912. She was cared for by her parents until the age of two when her mother died. She went to live with her maternal grandmother in the Palmville area south of Roseau, Minn. At the age of 13 she had to leave school to care for her grandmother and a disabled uncle.

Jennie was joined in marriage to John Nordstrom in 1930. They lived on a farm in Sprague, where John farmed and did off-farm work cutting pulpwood and logs. They raised a family of seven children. Following her husband's death, Jennie worked for several years as camp cook at tourist resorts. Of particular joy to her were the flights in and out of work.

Jennie was a very quick-witted, feisty and active lady. She especially enjoyed her family, friends, flowers, curling, seniors activities and travelling.

A number of years ago Jennie became aware of her need for salvation, and placed her trust in the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, as complete payment for her sin. She has been released at last from a body which would no longer function for her, and will forever enjoy reunion with loved ones in the presence of the Savior.

Funeral service will be held on May 21, 2002 at 2 p.m. at the Sprague Community Hall, Sprague, MB with Pastors John Klassen and Roy Byman officiating. Pallbearers are all grandsons of Jennie: Wayne Nordstrom, Erik Anderson, Darrel Nordstrom, Russell Nordstrom, Johnny Hebel and Keith Czechmeister. Honorary pallbearers are all her many friends.

The family is very thankful for the patient, kind and compassionate care given to Jennie, and also the care and concern extended to her family by Dr Thiessen and the staff at the Bethesda Personal Care Home/Bethesda Place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation of Manitoba.

Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. The family extends a special "thank you" to Bill Dyck, funeral director, for his compassionate and professional assistance.
