PETER BUECKERT
Peacefully, Oct. 3, 2002, with his loving wife at his side, Peter passed away at the age of 77, after a lengthy and courageous battle with Parkinson's and cancer.
Peter was born in Russia, March 15, 1925 and immigrated to Canada 18 months later with his parents and older brother. They settled in southwestern Manitoba. In July 1945 Peter married his wife Agatha (Krahn) and after three years moved to Niverville, Man., where they raised their four children.
He chose carpentry as his trade at a relatively young age, a decision he stayed with his entire life. As an accomplished tradesman, he partnered with his brother John for many years, then independently until he was joined by his son Tom in 1975 when they formed P & T Bueckert Construction. In addition to residential construction Peter also directed and supervised the construction of two churches, the arena and post office in his hometown. This pride in his community extended to his volunteer work that included Town Council, Niverville Planning Commission, Hanover Recreation Committee, Hanover Education Committee, Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Fair Committee and Building Inspector for the town. Peter retired in 1988 and enjoyed travelling with his wife.
Peter will be lovingly remembered by Agatha, his wife of 57 years; his children, Peggy (Bob Heinrichs), Tom (Betty), Irene, Louise (Michael Smith); and grandchildren, Maeghan and Caitlyn Heinrichs, Keith and Candice Bueckert and Amanda and Carter Smith. He is also mourned by his sisters, Helen (Braun) and Anne (Jim Braun); brothers, Art (Gayle) and Leonard (Marie); sisters-in-law, Ella and Tina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Peter was predeceased by his mother Helen, a sister in infancy, stepmother Anna, father Jacob, brothers, John and Jake, and brother-in-law Jake Braun.
The family wishes to thank the numerous health care providers at Riverview Health Centre, 3E, Victoria Hospital 5th Floor, Homecare and Dr. David Young for their kind and loving care.
Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, 2 p.m., in the Niverville Mennonite Church, Niverville, Man., with Pastor Paul Adams officiating. Interment in Niverville Cemetery. ELIZABETH BUHR
1919 - 2002
Peacefully at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., Oct. 8, 2002, Elizabeth (Hiebert) (Wiebe) Buhr passed away suddenly after a full life of 83 years. She was born Sept. 27, 1919 in Gouldtown, Sask.
Elizabeth leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Ed Buhr and her six sons: Abe (Mary) Hiebert, Ruben (Agathe) Hiebert, Irven (Leona) Hiebert, Walter (Erna) Hiebert, Brian (Janet) Hiebert, Harvey (Brenda) Hiebert; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for Elizabeth Buhr will be held Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, 2:30 p.m., at the Word of Life Mission Church, 233 3rd St. S, Niverville, Man. Viewing will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, 7:30 p.m., with a devotional at 8 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach, Man.

SOPHIE (GERULA) MYDANIUK
With her family at her side, Sophie Mydaniuk, aged 72 years, beloved mother, baba and great-baba passed away peacefully at her residence at Sundown, Man., Oct. 2, 2002.
Sophie was predeceased by her husband Steve in 1999.
She will be sadly missed by her seven children, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson; Grace and Steve Faskerti (Edward, Christine and Donald Brindle with son Sebastien), Connie and Bob Pavlick (Dane, Jade), James and Emma Mydaniuk (Jamie, Tracy [Clayton], Lindsay), Brian Mydaniuk, Beverley and Donald Winnicky (Keith, Colt, Marc), Larry Mydaniuk, Rob and Brenda Mydaniuk (Dawn, Tanis, Kirsten).
She is also survived by one sister Kay Melnychuk, three brothers, Nick, Matt and Harry and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, 1 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Man., with Father Ihor Royik officiating.

GEORGE WILKINSON LENTON
Sadly, Sept. 30, 2002, George Wilkinson Lenton of Winnipeg, Man. passed away at the age of 87 at St. Boniface Hospital.
George leaves to mourn his passing his wife Margaret (Shea); his sons, Ken (Pat), and Larry (Louise); his grandchildren, Kyle, Laura, Julia, and Emily; sister Majorie Lenton; and brothers, Don and Wally; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. George was predeceased by his first wife Louise Adele (Laufersweiler).
Dad was born Jan. 20, 1915, in Emerson, Man., to Fred Lenton and Lily (Wilkinson) and was raised on a small farm east of Ridgeville, Man. Dad was no stranger to hard work and enjoyed the outdoors. He left farming in 1946 to work for the Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1981. Dad enjoyed many years of good health during his retirement, remaining active with his passion for golfing, bowling, gardening, and cooking (he made great pies), up to the last year.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3, in Winnipeg at the Glen Eden Memorial Chapel.
MICHAEL THOMAS WHITEHEAD
Suddenly at his residence in Steinbach, Man., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, Michael Thomas Whitehead, passed away at the age of 49 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife June; and her daughters, Tracy, Tammy; father-in-law Nick Thiessen; brothers, John (Joey), Richard (Kim), Wendell (Lucy); sisters, Judy (Harold) Burnell, Linda (Harold) Kihn; eight nieces and nephews; his pride and joy - his dogs Precious and Pebbles.
Michael was born in Steinbach Nov. 16, 1952.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Betty and Andrew Whitehead.
Viewing will be held Friday, Sept. 20, between 7 and 9 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel and at the chapel prior to the service. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach.

JOHN A. DRIEDGER
John Driedger passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at the Menno Home for the Aged, Grunthal, Man., at the age of 93 years.
He was born on a farm near the village of Schoenfeld on the steppes of the Ukraine, Sept. 21, 1908. His parents were Abram A. and Aganetha (nee Enns) Driedger.
When he was 11 years old, his family abandoned all their land, cattle, and household belongings in the Schoenfeld area and fled from the oncoming threat of outlaw bands, who gained control of the area, murdering settlers and pillaging their property at will. The family escaped to the south, to the mother colony of Molotschna, where they lived as refugees with relatives for the next five years until they had the opportunity to immigrate to Canada in 1924.
John leaves to his large family circle a legacy of commitment: commitment to God and his Saviour Jesus Christ, to our mother and their large family, and to his church. He strongly believed that praise, worship, and prayer could be expressed in a special way in music and song. He served his church in various roles, but most notably as choir director and song leader. He accepted his role as head of the family with courage, conviction and dedication. The children, and especially the grandchildren will always remember the family gatherings with the singing at Christmas time, the fishing trips and sleepovers in summer with ball games on the large yard, the food and gifts all of which was always so well organized by Opa and Oma.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 70 years, Helen (nee Krahn); seven children: Lena (Jake) Schapansky, Albert (Mary), John (Judy), Ellie (Jake) Friesen, Johanna (Lloyd) Kellett, Fred (Shirley) and Victor (Cindy); 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters: Agnes Warkentin, Helen Unger, Agatha Guenther, Annie Hildebrandt; one brother Peter Driedger (Alice) and their family; sisters-in-law Helen Driedger, Elsa Martens and Neta Krahn and one brother-in-law Jake Doerksen.
He was predeceased by his parents, two older siblings in infancy, his younger brother Abe, grandson Kurt Friesen, four sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2 p.m., at Elim Mennonite Church, Grunthal, Man. Viewing was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Sept. 18, 7 p.m., with devotional at 7:30 p.m., and half hour prior to the service. Interment in Grunthal Cemetery.
In memory of John, donations may be made to Menno Home Foundation, Box 280, Grunthal, MB R0A 0R0 or Elim Mennonite Church Building Fund.
The family also wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Menno Home for the sensitive, loving care they gave our father for these last five years.

ELFRIEDA NEUFELD
With great sadness the family of Elfrieda (Vogt) Neufeld announces her death at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., Sept. 8, 2002. She passed away peacefully after suffering a stroke.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Neufeld and Barb (Harv) Lane; and her son John (Christiane) Neufeld; as well as her grandchildren, Shannon (Colin) Bendell, Patrick Neufeld, Julia and Karla Lane, and Nicholas and Stefan Neufeld. Close to Frieda were her dear friends, Irene and Wally Rempel, stepbrother Cornie Plenert, sisters-in-law Agatha Plenert, Helen (Harry) Rosenby, Margaret Neufeld and brother-in-law Ernie (Anne) Neufeld.
She was predeceased by her sister Mary, step-sister Sara and her step-brother Henry.
Frieda was born to Andrew and Maria (Wiens) Vogt on Feb. 17, 1918 in southern Ukraine. She immigrated to Canada with her family in 1923, first living in Hanley and Rabbit Lake, Sask., later moving to Steinbach to live in the home of her Uncle Peter A. Vogt and Susanna Vogt. After graduating from Teacher's College, she taught for several years at Bristol School. She married Herman Neufeld, the love of her life, in 1942, enjoying 52 years of marriage before Herman passed away in 1995. During this time she taught for many years at Kindale School, finishing her career at Woodlawn School.
Frieda will be lovingly remembered for her work in pioneering the education programs for special needs children. Many children were the recipients of her hand knitted sweaters. She was passionate about family and passed on its history to them. Her grandchildren were particularly important to her and she had a deep love of travel and people. Her warm hugs and kind words have encouraged many and she was a loyal and compassionate friend. Our Mom and Oma will be in our hearts forever.

The funeral service for Elfrieda Neufeld was held Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at Grace Mennonite Church, Steinbach, Man. Private family interment at Heritage Cemetery.

PETER ROSENFELD
1907 - 2002
Peter Rosenfeld, son of Peter and Helena Rosenfeld, was born Nov. 25, 1907 in the region of Terek, Russia. He passed away on the morning of Sept. 12, 2002, at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital at the age of 94 years.
Being of German citizenship, the family was sent to Siberia during the war years. However, the family was expatriated to Germany in 1923 in exchange for Russian prisoners of war. When the opportunity came for them to immigrate to Canada, the family decided to make the move. They arrived in Herbert, Sask. in 1926 and were taken in by the Wiens family and employed as farm labourers.
In 1932 Dad married his sweetheart, Anna Derksen, who shared his life for almost 60 years. They settled on the Derksen farm and it was here that their first son, Gerald was born. Dad loved farming and he and Mom decided to move to their dream farm.
They resettled as pioneers at Foam Lake, Sask. Times were hard in the 30's, so when the invitation was extended to work in the family business, now known as Derksen Printers Ltd., a move was made. They left everything behind, and arrived in Steinbach, Man. in the spring of 1936, just in time for the arrival of their daughter Marion. Later Robert and Peter were born to complete the family unit.
Dad's new career as Linotype operator began, and lasted for a span of 36 years, setting print for the Steinbach Post and other German periodicals. During this time he was also made a partner at Derksen Printers. In 1966 he sold his interests in the business, and in 1972 took early retirement.
Upon retirement, and not one to be idle, Dad shifted gears and worked for Dr. Sonya in the veterinary clinic, a job that he thoroughly enjoyed. In 1989 Mom and Dad sold their house and moved into Fernwood. Their time together here was brief as Mom passed away in the summer of 1990. After this Dad spent many hours volunteering at the Mennonite Heritage Village museum, at the MCC Thrift Shop, and wherever his help was needed at Fernwood Place.
Dad's walk of faith was very important to him. He was baptized on the confession of his faith in Herbert, Sask. On arriving in Steinbach, a new church home was needed and it was at this time that the Steinbach Mennonite Church was founded. Dad and Mom became charter members. Dad served as church recording secretary for some years, as well as working in the Sunday School. He faithfully attended church services as long as his health permitted.
Dad will be fondly remembered for his uncomplaining nature, his generosity and his immaculate appearance.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Gerald (Marlene), Marion (Harry) Fast, Peter (Jean) and daughter-in-law Kathryn; as well as 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Poetker.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Anna in 1990, son Robert in 1997, two brothers and one sister.
A viewing for Peter Rosenfeld was held Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 16, 2:30 p.m., at the Steinbach Mennonite Church. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.
Special thanks to all the homecare workers at Fernwood, as well as Dr. Gordon Dyck and the staff at the Bethesda hospital for their dedicated care. We would also like to extend our deep appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown to the family during this time.

ABRAM FUNK WIEBE
1907 - 2002
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and friend, Abram F. Wiebe of Steinbach, Man., went to be with his Lord at the age of 95 years on Sept. 15, 2002 at Rest Haven Nursing Home.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife Gertrude, of 71 years; his five children: Martha (Danny Roche), Gertrude Braun, Henry (Judy), Helen (Abe Broesky), Abe (Lucille); 20 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Abram was born Aug. 25, 1907 in the Sommerfeld (Spencer) area near Grunthal, Man. His father, Peter P. Wiebe, died when Abram was two years old. He was raised by his mother Katherina Funk Wiebe and stepfather Jacob Enns Pries. From a combined very large, extended family, he is survived only by his half-brother William F. Pries.
Abram met his life's partner, Gertrude D. Wiens, in Pansy, and they married July 18, 1931. They enjoyed celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary at a reception in Fernwood Place last summer. Together they did their best, working very hard through very tough times to support their family. They farmed for many years and later Dad worked at Hiebert Farm Equipment. He drove his car until his 90th year and always found ways to help his children. His walk with God was quiet and steadfast.
Dad valued his friends and while he has just rejoined many of them, he leaves behind friends he enjoyed so much from his church community, his home at Fernwood Place, and from A & W (where he liked to go, "for coffee".)
Our thanks to Dr. Krahn at Concordia Hospital, Dr. Reimer at Bethesda Hospital, and the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home, especially the dedicated nurses for their care and compassion, and to all of you who held us closely during this difficult time. You know who you are.
A service of gratitude for Abram's life will be held at Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St., Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, 10:30 a.m., with Pastor John Wiebe officiating.
