SUSIE EIDSE
Our dear mother was born on May 9, 1929 to George W. Siemens and Gertrude Plett Siemens of McTavish. Her close ties to her brothers and sisters stemmed from a happy childhood on her parent's farm and she often shared fond memories of that time with us. She was born a triplet, but grew up as the twin sister to Elmer and she always took special pride in this relationship. Upon a personal confession of faith in her Lord and Savior, she was baptized in July of 1949. On October 1, 1950, she was married to Dave Eidse, her sweetheart of several years. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Elwyn and LaVerna. In August 2000, they celebrated their fiftieth wedding celebration with a special event at the Pleasant Valley Church.
When Mom and Dad were married, they took up farming. Mom always enjoyed helping out on the fields if ever an extra hand was needed. Gardening and canning for the winter took up a lot of her time in the summer. For many years she tended a large strawberry patch.
When Dad was called into church ministry in the Pleasant Valley Church, Mom was very supportive and became fully involved in her role as a minister's wife. Together with Dad, she served under the EMC Board of Missions for 15 years. She was openly grateful to the Lord for the strength and joy that she experienced in this work.
Mom's love of music was surely influenced by her early family home. Mom could play both guitar and accordian and encouraged us and taught us to play these instruments as well.
Even though she was often at a great distance from her family, she made every effort to maintain close relationship to her children and grandchildren in whatever way possible.
Our mother had a very special relationship to our dad. She loved him devotedly and willingly shared his life and ministry at his side.
Late on January 6, mom suddenly became severely ill. She underwent emergency surgery for an aneurism on January 7, and thought she was making steady progress, but complications set in and she died of heart failure on January 15, 2003.
She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Tony, and two brothers who died in infancy - George and her triplet brother Joseph.
Her passing is mourned by her loving and devoted husband Dave Eidse, son Elwyn, his wife Annette of Rosenort, their children: David and his wife Lyndsay, Jeffery, Patricia and Destiny; daughter LaVerna Reimer, her husband Tim of Toronto, Ont., their children: Diedre, Tobin and Karl.
She is survived by sister Annie Eidse, of Rosenort, brother Elmer Siemens, and his wife Laura of Kola, sister Margaret Siemens, of Rosenort and sister-in-law Mary Siemens of Winnipeg. She will be sorely missed by the Eidse "Geschwista" and numerous nieces and nephews who also mourn her passing.
We would like to thank you, the extended family, the church and the community who are walking with us at this time. Your prayers and support are keenly felt and sincerely appreciated.

ROSE KORNELSEN
"I will lift up mine eyes my help cometh from the Lord" Psalm 121:1 & 2.
Mom's life exemplifies these words, which was our dad's favourite psalm and quoted at his funeral. Mom claimed this psalm for her very own after his death in 1964. Our parents were married on October 19, 1952.
Mom raised five children under ten years of age on her own. A quote from her testimony says "It's not been an easy road but I'm very thankful that the Lord was always with me and helped me in so many ways" Mom had a solid faith in God. She taught us to go to the Lord with everything in our life. She demonstrated the importance of attending church and Sunday School regularly. She prayed daily for each one of her children and grandchildren by name. She was also a prayer warrior for our church prayer team.
Mom's passion was people. All of Rosenort calls her Tante Rosie young and old. She loved to strike up a conversation with anyone even in a store line-up; and people would always respond positively. She was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren. As her children, we have many happy memories of our home life. She was always such a good sport and had a great sense of humour.
Mom was well known in the ladies' circles for her delicious lemon jelly roll. During Rosenort Days, for two consecutive years, she won an award for her prize roses. She was a hard worker, and held various jobs throughout her life. These were not viewed as mere jobs, but opportunities for social interaction.
We know God gave us the last six weeks to show our mom and grandma how much we truly loved her. We tried to put years of future love into this time as we cared for her 24 hours a day. She expressed her love and appreciation constantly.
Surrounded by our family in love, Mom passed away peacefully on Thursday January 16, 2003. It comforts us to know she is with Jesus, and reunited with our dad. Left to mourn her passing are her children; Liz and husband Leroy Plett of Winnipeg, grandchildren Dale and Michelle, and Kim; Bruce and wife Lill of Rosenort, grandchildren Amber and Erik, Tyler, and Raquel; Brad and wife Colleen of Rosenort, grandchildren Brittany, Stefan, and Anders; Carol and husband Joe Waldner of Rosenort, grandchildren Brandi and Scott, Jenna, and Cristina; and Dennis and wife Iris of Steinbach, and grandchildren Zachary, and Samara.
We appreciate all the prayers, care, and food we've received from family and friends.

KAROLINE DUECK (nee Warkentin)
1932 - 2003
Peacefully, with family by her side, Karoline Dueck, 70, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jan. 20, 2003. After a brief struggle with cancer, she passed away at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB.
Karoline was born in Morris, MB, Oct. 13, 1932, to Henry and Katherina Warkentin. She married Martin Dueck on May 4, 1952 and they raised their five children in Steinbach.
There was never a selfish moment as she dedicated her life to her husband, children and grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember the times she spent playing with them in activities they enjoyed.
Besides her loving husband of 50 years, Martin, Karoline will be lovingly remembered by four sons and one daughter: Ken (and Kim and children Jonathan, Hannah and Rebecca) of Sandown, Isle of Wight, England; Stan (and Ruth and children Crystal and Jennifer) of Whitehorse, YT; Art (and Joanne and children Nathan, Lisa and Stephanie) of Steinbach; Ray (and Renee and children Brayden and Codey) of Winnipeg, MB; Marilyn (and Danny Mann and children Mikala and Dawson) of Sanford, MB.
She will also be dearly missed by two sisters, Dora (Cornie) Fast of Blumenort, MB, Mary (Willie) Plett of Steinbach; two brothers, Pete (Annie) Warkentin of Giroux, MB, Ed (Grace) Warkentin of Winnipeg; and one sister-in-law, Nettie Warkentin of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by one brother, Albert Warkentin.
Viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 7 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, 11 a.m., at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Main St., Steinbach.
The family thanks Dr. Garba and Dr. Duerksen, as well as the nurses and staff at Bethesda Hospital for their compassionate care.

CORNELIUS P (CP) FRIESEN
Mr. Cornelius P. Friesen, formerly of Riverton, MB passed away peacefully at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach on January 20, 2003, at the age of 87.
He was predeceased by his daughter Caroline Barkman, son David, son Albert, and grandson Terry Klassen.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Marie, son-in-law Ben Barkman and wife Phyllis, Harry (Levina), daughter-in-law Annie, daughter-in-law Hilda, Menno (Barb), Ron (Barb), Klass (Linda), Edna (Benjamin) Klassen, John (Ann), Ted (Annie), and Cornie (Laura). He will also be very much missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, and many dear friends.
Cornie and Marie were married in 1937, and they farmed in Ste Anne. In 1957, they moved to Riverton, where they farmed and lived until 1998. Then when life on the home place was no longer feasible, they moved to Steinbach.
Dad was best known for his many loves. His faith was of highest importance. He loved and trusted God, and looked to Him in hope. He revelled in and nourished his companionship with mother. Together, they reared 11 children, farmed, gardened, visited relatives and friends, and travelled. He loved his family dearly. Mom and Dad have many grandchildren and great grandchildren; Dad loved them all and sought to affirm each one.
Dad was always generous. Nothing was more important than people, and coffee time was any time especially when there were family and friends to share it with. Church involvement was always very important to Dad, and he taught Sunday School, and served on numbers of committees throughout his life. As well, Dad sat on numbers of community organizations school board, Co-op board, hospital board, and others. He loved nature, and enjoyed observing the growth of crops and garden; he loved roaming the bush in search of pulpwood and firewood. When he could no longer do hard physical work, he and Mom made many a quilt for people in need.
We appreciate the considerate care the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Bethesda Personal Care Home, and the Steinbach Hospital gave to Dad.
We are thankful that Dad's suffering is over, but we will miss him very much.

Funeral services will be held in both Steinbach and in Riverton to facilitate the attendance of family and friends. In Riverton, the service will be held Saturday, January 25 at the Riverton Community Hall, viewing at 12:30, and the service at 1:00 pm. Interment at Mennville E M Church Cemetery.

DAVID H. BERGEN
Peacefully, Feb. 3, 2003, with his wife and children at his side, David H. Bergen passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 79 years.
Dad was born July 5, 1923 in Horndean, Man. and was baptized on the confession of his faith in 1943.
Left to mourn his passing are his beloved wife Lena of nine years; one daughter Mary (Mel) of Winnipeg, Man.; four sons: Abe (Sarah) of Kleefeld, Man., Jake (Helen) of Mitchell, Man., John (Helen) of Landmark, Man., Martin (Terri) of B.C.; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; five stepdaughters: Darlene Maydiniuk of B.C., Diane (Alvin) Belley of B.C., Dolores (Bob) Schilling of Ste Anne, Man., Debbie (Dave) Kereluk of Winnipeg, Darcy Sawchuk (Clem) of Winnipeg; two stepsons: Bernie (Sandy) Sawchuk of Winnipeg and Carl Sawchuk (Crystal), also of Winnipeg; 13 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Peter (Ann), Henry (Hilda), and a sister Ann (Jake V.) Hiebert, all of Steinbach; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Dad was predeceased by his first wife Maria in April of 1991; his parents; one step-son-in-law and five brothers: Abe, William, Jacob, John and Martin and a sister Lena.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, 1 p.m. at the Prairie Rose EMC at Landmark, with Pastor Ed Wiebe officiating. Interment will follow in the Grunthal cemetery. Viewing was held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 7-8 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, and at the church prior to the service.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the St. Boniface Hospital for all the excellent care Dad was given during his time there.

FRANK K. DOERKSEN
Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at the Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Man., Frank K. Doerksen, beloved husband of Minnie, formerly of Cartwright, Man., passed away at the age of 89 years.
Besides his wife he is survived by 10 children: Norma Doerksen, Frances Doerksen, Melinda Doerksen, Melvin (Margaret) Doerksen, all of Cartwright, Hannah Doerksen of Linden, Alta., Amanda (Galen) Toews, Leslie (Denise) Doerksen, Allen (Rosena) Doerksen, Bruce (Gwen) Doerksen, all of Cartwright, and Terri Miller of Linden, Alta., 28 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Anne Doerksen of Steinbach, a son-in-law: Francis North of Tulsa, Ok.; and many relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter Eva in 1984; two grandsons: Steven North in 1996 and Cory Doerksen in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, 2 p.m., at the Church of God in Christ Mennonite at Cartwright, with interment at the Cartwright District Cemetery. Friends may pay their last respects at the church prior to the service.

HENRY B. RIEGER
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Henry B. Rieger of Steinbach, Man., Jan. 31, 2003 at the St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, Man., at the age of 80.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters: Sheryl (Gerry) Weiss, Winnipeg; Marleen (Berny) Hiebert, Steinbach; Jeananne (Harvey) Kehler, Red Deer, Alta; Raymond (Darlene) Rieger, Steinbach; grandchildren: Joel (Margaret) Weiss, Saskatoon, Sask., Matthew Weiss and Karla Weiss, Winnipeg, Jared (Tanya) Hiebert, Sexsmith, Alta., Dana (Mark) Loewen, Steinbach, Bradley Kehler, Red Deer, Alta., Brian (Chantel) Kehler, Blackfalds, Alta., Janaya Rieger and Camryn Rieger, Steinbach; great-grandchildren: Meagan and Joshua Hiebert and Alexandra and Miles Loewen; two brothers: Sebastian (Tien), Simon; and one sister, Nora Rieger, all of Steinbach; as well as extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Olive Pearl (Hoey) in 2001; his parents, Sebastian and Eva Rieger; sisters, Anna Rieger and Minna Eidse.
He was born Feb. 15, 1922 and raised in Steinbach, where he received his education. After high school, he began working for his father, who was a merchant tailor and men's clothier. This prepared him for his life-long occupation in the men's wear business, Rieger Clothing Ltd., where he was co-owner with his brother, Sebastian and later, owner.
During 1943-45, he left his father briefly and worked as an orderly at the Selkirk Mental Hospital, where he met Olive, a nurse and co-worker. They were married shortly after the war in December of 1945, settling in Steinbach, having rejoined his father in the clothing business.
He was baptized in 1939, upon confession of his faith, thereafter joining the Evangelical Mennonite Brethren Church (now Cornerstone Bible Church), Steinbach, of which he remained a member, serving faithfully in various capacities including leader of the young men's prayer meeting, Sunday school teacher, quartet and choir member, Boy's Brigade leader, and council member. He also served in the community, supervising at the skating rink when his children were young, on the Chamber of Commerce Board and later with 55 Plus.
Our dad, a tailor by trade, took great care in his work. His creativity was also evident in woodworking and carving projects, many of which are enjoyed by his family. He also enjoyed planting the many shrubs and trees that beautified his yard, as well as family vacations, travelling and listening to his collection of music.
We held Dad in high regard and deeply respected the values he taught us. His kindness and devotion to his family and friends will be forever cherished.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Cornerstone Bible Church, Steinbach, (corner of Reimer Ave, and First St.). Viewing was held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 7-8 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, and at the church prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Plan.

KATHERINE THIESSEN
Monday, Feb. 3, 2003 our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Katherine Thiessen of the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, Man., was promoted to Glory at the age of 91 years.
She leaves to mourn her passing 15 children: Arden (Helen) of Steinbach, Doris Thiessen of Blumenort, Man., Mary Penner of Arborg, Man., Cathy Thiessen of Mexico, Dennis (Sara) of Kleefeld, Man., Levina (Harry) Friesen of Steinbach, David (Merna) of Winnipeg, Man., Bernie (Irma) of Bowsman, Man., Harold (Laura) of Bowsman, Gerald (Ruth) of Blumenort, Grace (Karl) Goertzen of Winnipeg, Janice (Dennis) Kroeker of Arborg, Betty (Wilbert) Friesen of Steinbach, Luella (Ray) Kroeker of Riverton, Man., and Darlene (Henry) Rempel of Winnipeg. She is also survived by 44 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband David P. Thiessen in 1986; one son-in-law Menno Penner in 2002 as well as all of her siblings.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Blumenort, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation and gathering of friends will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 7:30-8:30 p.m. (with devotional beginning at 7:30 p.m.) and at the church prior to the service.

ALFRED O. THOMPSON
1923 - 2003
After a long and full life, Alfred Oscar Thompson of Piney, Man. passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, having just celebrated his 80th birthday with his family.
Alfred was born in Menisino, Man., Jan. 30, 1923. He was the owner and operator of Piney Transfer and Thompson's Solo Store in Piney. He worked for the Manitoba Government as a highways inspector, retiring in May 1989.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife Mae (married Feb. 23, 1943); children, Sheila (Bill) Sawka, Judi (Richard) Schaeffer, Connie Halvorson, Kerry (Linda) and Jeffrey (Marilyn); 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and five sisters.
Alfred enjoyed working. His philosophy was do your best or don't bother doing a job at all. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He always wanted the best for us. His family was his life. We will miss his love, direction and wisdom.
