GERHARD W. NEUFELD
Jan. 31, 2003 at the Grunthal Menno Home, Gerhard W. Neufeld passed away peacefully at the age of 77.
Gerhard was born Dec. 11, 1925 to Gerhard G. and Katharina Neufeld of New Bothwell, Man. He grew up and attended school in the Seaton School District. Gerhard spent most of his working years driving forklift at Supercrete in Winnipeg.
Gerhard enjoyed the outdoors, and particularly loved the sport of fishing. He also enjoyed traveling as long as his health permitted him to do so.
Gerhard was predeceased by his mother Katharina (Wiebe) Neufeld in 1962; his father Gerhard G. Neufeld in 1964; brother Henry in 1975; brother David in 1985; and sister Tina Reimer in 1997.
He is lovingly remembered by his sister Susie and her husband Jacob Doerksen; brother-in-law Henry Reimer; sister-in-law Anne Neufeld; sister-in-law Kay Stuart and her husband Doug; as well as 14 nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with Pastors Stan Kehler and C.G. Peters officiating. Interment at the Randolph Cemetery.

ANN REIMER
Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003 at the Steinbach Rest Haven, Ann Reimer of Steinbach, Man. passed away at the age of 93.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, Peter A. Reimer, Jan. 6, 1972.
She will be sadly missed by daughter Dawn and husband Jim Eccles of Thunder Bay, Ont., son Dwight and wife Jayda Reimer of Oxnard, California, and daughter Sue Ann and husband Stan Doerksen of Brampton, Ont.
A very loving and precious Nana will be deeply missed by her grandchildren, Naomi Vondell, Barbara Eccles, Jennifer and husband Robin Merkley, Jannette and husband Andrew Netherton, Lisa Reimer, Larra and husband David Dunlop, Jay Doerksen, Eric Doerksen, Shawna Doerksen.
Her young great-grandchildren, Isabelle Netherton and Jackson Dunlop, have met Ann, but not had the joy of knowing her. Ann enjoyed the company of babies and especially loved watching these two little ones during their visits.
Ann was predeceased by her parents, Adolph and Amelia Mueller, six brothers, two sisters and one half-brother. She is survived by her brother Alvin of Toronto, Ont.
Ann was born in Hochstadt, Man., Nov. 30, 1909 and married Peter A. Reimer on April 25, 1931. They settled in the Steinbach area, farming on what is now the Steinbach Mennonite Museum property, and also lived in Carman, Man. for a period of time. After retiring from the farm, they lived in Steinbach. Ann volunteered for many years with the church, providing support and provisions for young families, and also gave her time to the well-baby clinic held by the Health Unit. Ann worked with her sister Elizabeth at Modern Shoe Shop, then at Ray's Interiors.
Several years following Peter's death, she sold her home in Steinbach and moved to Burlington, Ont. and then Brampton, Ont. to be closer to family. The grandchildren had the wonderful privilege of truly getting to know her and having her involved in their lives during this period. In 1988, recognizing her declining health, she returned to Steinbach and lived at the Rest Haven until her death.
The family is very grateful for the care throughout her stay at the Rest Haven and wish to thank the dedicated staff for their gentleness and sensitivity in the days before her death.
Ann will be so sadly missed by everyone who knew her. Her cheerful joy of life, wonderfully positive outlook, generosity, and love for her family, friends, neighbours and caregivers will never be forgotten.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 420 Main St., Steinbach. There will be a memorial time from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7, 2003 at Loewen Funeral Home, Hwy. 12 South, Steinbach.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to MCC or the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Ann's memory.

MAURICE G. CHABOT
Thursday, March 27, 2003 at his residence, Maurice Chabot of Marchand, Man. passed away at the age of 73 years.
He is survived by his wife Dolorese; his children: Jeanne (Burt), Jackie (Lawrence), Billy (Doris), Joey (Juliette), Germaine (Mark) and Joyce (Mike); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Wilfred (Debbie), Rene (Estelle), Archie (Jeanne), Irene (George), Florence (Herman), Germaine, Clemance (John), and their extended families.
Maurice was predeceased by his parents, Aurillia and Edward; and his brothers, Léo, Lucien and Peter.
Maurice worked for the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie for 18 years.
In respect with Maurice's last wishes there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place.
We would like to thank Bethesda Hospital staff and the ambulance services.

PETER P. SIEMENS
March 27, 2003 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Peter P. Siemens of Steinbach, Man. suddenly passed away at the age of 87 years. He is survived by his wife Tina, one son, one daughter, five step-children and their families.
Funeral services were held March 30, 2003, 2 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, with interment following at the Blumenort EMC Cemetery. Viewing was held March 29, 2003, 7 to 8 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel and prior to the service.

ALVINA BETZOLD
1913-2003
Saturday, March 29, 2003, at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, Alvina Betzold passed away peacefully after a brief illness.
She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children: daughter Noreen Wiebe of Winnipeg, Man., daughter Marlene and husband Wilbert Schalla of Steinbach, Man., son Ken and wife Grace of Winnipeg, son Ray and wife Lorraine of Lac Du Bonnet, Man., and daughter Sharon and husband Abe Doerksen of Calgary, Alta.; 21 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; one brother Emmanuel and wife Ida Fender, one sister Rosalia Krentz, and sister-in-law Adeline Fender.
Alvina was predeceased by her husband, Henry, in 1988; one son-in-law, Dick Wiebe, in 2000; her parents, Paulina and August Fender; her sisters, Annie Grienke and Pauline Grienke; her brother Reinhold Fender; and three brothers-in-law, Reinhold Krentz, Herman Grienke, and Carl Grienke; two brothers in infancy, August and William; as well as one half-brother, Daniel Streck and one half-sister, Helena Streck.
Alvina was born in Steinbach on Nov. 3, 1913 to Paulina and August Fender. Nov. 24, 1932 she was married to Henry Marker Betzold. They farmed in the Friedensfeld area from 1932 to 1961 when they moved into the town of Steinbach.
Alvina was a loving, concerned wife and mother, always putting the needs of her family above her own. She was resourceful, industrious and an extremely skilful and creative cook and homemaker. Her deft hands fashioned countless beautiful things, from colourful quilts to crocheted tablecloths.
No job was ever too big for Alvina to tackle, and at the end of a long day she still had energy for the social activities she so greatly enjoyed. She will be remembered as a fun-loving, feisty woman with a zest for life and adventure. Her teasing sense of humor was always betrayed by the mischievous twinkle in her eye.
God was always given great honor in the Betzold home and Alvina's Sunday was complete when she could be in church with all her family. In recent years, Alvina frequently expressed the desire to go to her heavenly home.
Special thanks from the family to the staff at Bethesda Place and at the Bethesda Hospital for so tenderly and lovingly caring for our mother.
Funeral services were held Wednesday April 2, 2003, 2 p.m., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Steinbach. Interment followed at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery on Hwy. 12, Steinbach. Viewing was held prior to the service and Tuesday, April 1 at Loewen Funeral Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m., with a devotional at 8 p.m.
Donations may be made in memory of our mother to the St. Paul Lutheran Memorial Fund, Steinbach, Man., or to the Steinbach Bethesda Place.

HENRY HARMS HEIER
Peacefully, at the age of 77 years, surrounded by his family, Henry Harms Heier went to be with his Lord and Saviour.
Henry was born May 15, 1925 in Orenburg, Russia. He immigrated to Canada with his parents Frank and Anna Heier in 1926. His growing up years were spent in the Bristol, Man. area, where he developed a great love for farming. At the age of 17, at the invitation of a Bible School teacher, Henry gave his life to the Lord. He was then baptized on confession of his faith.
He moved to B.C. in 1955 to work in the lumber camps and there also became a member of the Evangelical Free Church. In 1956 he married Tina Klassen, the love of his life. In 1970 they moved back to Manitoba to do what he loved the most farming. He farmed for the next 30 years in the Trentham area, first raising hogs and then operating a dairy with his son Art. Farming was his life and Henry worked hard. His motto for life was "Never Give Up."
Due to Henry's failing health the farm was sold in 2000 and they moved to Steinbach, Man. In July 2002 Henry's health deteriorated and he was admitted to Bethesda Hospital, where he spent the next six months. Jan. 27, 2003 he moved into Rest Haven Nursing Home, where he resided for the last two month of his life. On the eve of March 27, 2003, after a courageous battle with Parkinsons disease, complicated by pneumonia, his Lord and Saviour called him home.
He is survived by his wife Tina; son Art (Esther) and their children, Jeremy, Randall, Colin and Janelle; son Fred (Kimberly) and their children, Amanda, Angela and Alicia; daughter Faith (Dale) Cathcart and their children, Samantha and Ryan; son Paul (Wendy) and their children, Jessica and Kyle. We love you and will miss you.
Special thanks to the Bethesda Hospital staff and the Rest Haven Nursing Home staff for all the support you showed Henry and us as well. We appreciate Dr. Krahn and Dr. Haggard for their special care of Dad's needs.

WALDON A. BARKMAN
Waldon A. Barkman was born Feb. 3, 1911, to Minister Jacob F. and Margaret Dyck Barkman at Hillsboro, Kansas. Dad passed away peacefully March 28, 2003 at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital, reaching the age of 92 years and one month.
When Dad was approximately one year old, his family moved back to Steinbach, Man. When he was 18 years of age he gave his heart to the Lord, and Sept. 8, 1929 was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Minister Jacob T. Wiebe in Greenland, Man. The Church was very precious to Dad, and he remained faithful to his vows until the end.
Dad married Elma Toews Dec. 24, 1940, sharing life's joys and sorrows for over 62 years. They resided in the same house for over 60 years.
Dad began teaching school at 17 years of age, and taught for seven years. After that, he worked as a postal worker in the Steinbach Post Office. From 1946 to 1967, he owned and operated the Steinbach Cold Storage, where he enjoyed meeting and serving his many friends. His last occupation was serving as administrator of the Greenland Home in Ste. Anne, Man.
Dad was a "people person." His caring approach toward all mankind, especially the less fortunate, was one of his strong points. He was industrious, and any job was worth doing well. Bookwork, including proofreading Sunday School lessons, was one of his delights. He also enjoyed translating writings from German to English.
Dad loved singing, and he often led us in song. Prayer was the heartbeat of his everyday life. We will never forget Dad's prayers. In his last years it seemed we could take a little step into heaven with him as he prayed. The grandchildren enjoyed Grandpa's fun-loving and caring ways.
Mom and Dad moved into the Maplewood Manor about one year ago, and greatly appreciated its setting.
Those cherishing precious memories are his loving wife, Elma; five children: Ray and Darlene, Marian Wiebe (Hugh), Marg and Kerry Frayne, all of Abbotsford, B.C., Sid and Edith Barkman, Steinbach, Carol and Clint Giesbrecht, Whitemouth, Man.; 12 precious grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers: Herb and Martha, Roland and Josephine, and Gladwin and Irma.
The funeral service was held Monday, March 31, at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in Steinbach. Ministers Lorne Toews, Ralph Toews, and Lorne Bartel officiated.

HAROLD WIEBE
February 21, 1925 - April 5, 2003
It is with regret and deep sadness that we announce Harold Wiebe passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, at the age of 78, April 5, 2003, at the Bethesda Hospital. He battled his final illness with calmness and perseverance, even then communicating his love to his wife.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, best friend and confidante Mary (nee Wachtendorf); sisters, Gertrude Peters of Vancouver, BC, Laura Heckert of Steinbach, Man.; brother, Denver Wiebe and his wife Doris of Stapleherst, Nebraska; brother-in-law Bill Wachtendorf and his wife Minnie of Niverville; and their families.
He was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Susanna Wiebe; brother Harvey Wiebe; brothers-in-law, Jake Peters and Bill Heckert.
Harold was born Feb. 21, 1925 in the Roland Municipality. As a young boy he moved to Steinbach, where he resided his entire life. After attending school he began working for Penner Transfer and then South East Transfer. After leaving the transfer business, he went to work road construction for Brandt Construction and later for Commonwealth Construction.
Harold was well known for his many years in sports, playing for both the Steinbach Huskies and Steinbach Millers. He was also an avid curler.
Visitation was held Tuesday, April 8, 7 to 8 p.m., with a short devotional at 8 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel. Funeral service was held Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at the Steinbach Memorial Cemetery.
We would like to make special mention to the medical staff and many volunteers at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Bethesda Hospital Foundation or Cancer Care Society.
