STELLA KYRZYK
Peacefully, April 1, 2003, Stella Kyrzyk, beloved wife of the late Metro, passed away at the age of 85, at Vita Hospital.
Stella leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Helen (Bill) Pasieka, Sylvia (Emile) Picklyk; one son, John (Nancy) Kyrzyk; eight grandchildren, Brian (Teresa) Pasieka, Carol (Al) Jones, Gordon Pasieka, Natalia (Myron) Radawetz, Rod (Bonnie) Picklyk, Julie (Randy) Skromeda, John Picklyk, Jona-than Kyrzyk; and 12 precious great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Jones, Allison and Thomas Pasieka, Emilia, Joseph and Anna Radawetz, Danika, Hanna and Darian Picklyk, Nicholas and Lukas Skromeda.
She also leaves to mourn her loss, five sisters: Mary Kiziuk, Ann (Eugene) Podolsky, Elsie (Bill) Skryba, Jean (Ray) Van Kooten, Nellie (Wally) Diduck; five brothers: Matt (Helen), Jarvis, Steve (Iris), Peter (Mariette), and Alex (Eloise). She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Elma and Sara Derewianchuk; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Kyrzyk family; cousins; many nieces and nephews.
Stella was predeceased by her husband Metro in 1994; her parents, Anastasia (1973) and Alex (1972) Derewianchuk; brothers, Walter, Roland and Boris; sister-in-law Kay.
Stella was born March 28, 1918 in Vita, Man. As a young woman she worked job to job, to help her parents make their prairie farm a home. She married Metro in 1940 and they were devoted to each other for 53 years. Together they farmed in the Zhoda, Man. area, raising three children. In 1987, they moved to Vita, treasuring the activities and friendships at Shady Oak Lodge. They were fortunate enough to travel and make lifelong friendships.
Mom's strong faith in God sustained her through hardships and as a widow helped her overcome her grief. She was a long-time member of Nativity of BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church (by
Sopiwnyks), and together with Dad they worked lovingly and unselfishly for the church, making great sacrifices, so families of today may receive the fruits of their hard-earned labor. Ukrainian heritage and culture were also very dear to her.
She lived life to the fullest, was an avid gardener, a great cook, and created beautiful works of embroidery. She gave freely of her gifted skill, making decorative Kolachee for many occasions. Visiting the sick with her love and prayers was a must.
Mom's greatest joy was her family, especially her great-grandchildren (goodzichki), never missing a family gathering or a special occasion. She enhanced our lives with her love, kindness, generosity, deep faith, sacrifice and hard work. She touched the hearts of many and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. "In our hearts you will always live and we will love you dearly."
Thank you to God for the gift of our dear Mama, Baba, Pre-Baba-Babtsia, a humble and grand lady.
Rest in peace Vichnaya Pamyat.
Pallbearers were Rod and John Picklyk, Jonathan Kyrzyk, Brian and Gordon Pasieka, Al Jones. Cross bearers were Randy Skromeda and Steve Derewianchuk.
Prayers were sung Friday, April 4, 2003, 8 p.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 455 Douglas Avenue, Winnipeg, Man. Divine liturgy was celebrated Saturday, April 5, 10:30 a.m., at Nativity of BVM Ukrainian Catholic Church (by Sopiwnyks), Caliento, Man., officiated by Rev. Fr. I. Royik.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to all family and friends for their many acts of kindness, prayers, love and support; to Rev. Fr. I. Royik and Rev. Deacon L. Twerdun for their prayers and visits, and to the doctors and staff of the Vita and District Health Centre for their compassionate care and kindness.

HENRY L. KLASSEN
July 22, 1917 - April 3, 2003
The family of Henry Klassen celebrates the life of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Henry passed away peacefully April 3, 2003 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man.
Henry was happiest when his family was around him. One of his greatest pastimes was looking at photo albums and books of family history. He loved to share his interests of carpentry, and the Mennonite museum. He also greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Shop. He had strong values of honesty, reliability and generosity. He always had a smile and a handshake for everyone.
Henry is survived by his wife of 55 years, Justina (Friesen); sons, Larry (Esther), and Nolan of Winnipeg, Man.; daughter Jocelyn of Steinbach, and daughter-in-law Joyce of Lethbridge, Alta. He will also be fondly remembered by five grandchildren, Shawn, Julia, Chris (Jaycee), Garett (Samantha) and Karen; as well as one great-grandchild Mathew. He was predeceased by his oldest son Donald and his oldest sister Sarah.
He is survived by seven brothers and sisters and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held Monday, April 7, 2003 at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

ANNIE REEVES
1904 - 2003
It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the death of Annie Reeves, April 4, after a short illness, at the age of 98 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Helen Ryan (Ted), Joyce Tachinski (Joe), Evelyne Struthers (Doug), Ron Reeves (Joyce); grandchildren: Vern Ryan, Cheryl Law (Brian), Jo-ann Zelen (Mike), Glen Tachinski (Christine), Margaret Lawson (Darrell), Liz Struthers, Ron Struthers, Kyle Reeves (Amanda), Ronna Neale (James); her great-grandchildren: Meaghan and Mandy Law, Peter and Alexandra Zelen, Xander, Victoria, Kennedy, and Jackson Tachinski. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Annie was predeceased by her husband Sidney in 1971; her grandson Gordon Struthers in 1978; and by her parents, brothers, and sisters.
Annie was born in Llangollen, Wales on Aug. 17, 1904. Her early years were spent in County Cavan, Ireland. The family immigrated to Canada in 1910 and settled on a homestead in Piney, Man., where they experienced the hard work and isolation of pioneer life in Canada.
Annie married Sidney Reeves in 1927, and they lived on their farm in Piney until Sid's passing in 1971. She then made her home with her daughter Joyce (Joe) until her passing.
Annie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was the heart and soul of the family. She had a great zest for life, which was an inspiration to all who have known her. She was keenly interested in sports, a loyal fan of the Bombers, Jets, and Moose. She loved traveling, a highlight being a trip to her birthplace in Wales and the ancestral home in Ireland. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed her summers at the cottage at Buffalo Point, where she pursued her favorite pastimes - berry picking, bird watching, playing cards, and taking an active part in family gatherings.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Victoria Hospital for their loving care, especially Paul - Annie's "guardian angel".
Funeral service was held in Piney at the Piney Community Church Tuesday, April 8, 2003. Interment at Badger Cemetery.

ARCEL GAGNON
Friday, April 4, 2003 at the Ste Anne Hospital, Arcel Gagnon passed away at the age of 47 years.
Left to mourn his passing are his five children: Lynn Gagnon (Alain) of Ste Anne, Man., Arcel Gagnon (Mona) of Ste. Anne, Paul Claeys (Chrystal) of Winnipeg, Man., Patrick Claeys of Richer, Man., Stephanie Claeys (Rolly) of Ste Anne; three grandchildren: Victoria, Kiara, Seth.
He is also survived by his siblings: Florent (Evelyn), Roland (Yvette), Gerard, Anna (Aurele), Lorraine, Jeanine (Mitch), Leo (Louise), Aime (Doris), many relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, Irene and Leon; one son Andre in infancy; and his wife Rose in 2001.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 11, 7 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Hwy. 12 South.

LINDA PENNER
Monday, April 7, 2003, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Man., Linda Penner of Blumenort, Man. passed away at the age of 71 years.
Linda is survived by her mother Mary Penner of Steinbach; her siblings: Rose (Nick) Plett of Fisher Branch, Man., Margaret of Blumenort, Cornie (Evelyn), Harry (Tina), Jim (Linda), all of Ste. Anne, Man., and Norma (Peter) Thiessen of Blumenort; brother-in-law Ben Wiebe of Anola, Man.; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Peter C.L. Penner in 1984; sister Edna in 2002.
Funeral services will be held April 11, 2003, 2 p.m., at the Evangelical Mennonite Church in Blumenort, with Pastors Barry Plett and Jim Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may pay their last respects April 10, 7-8 p.m., at Loewen Funeral Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service.

GÉRARD GOSSELIN
In St-Pierre-Jolys, Man., at the De Salaberry Health Centre, Gérard Gosselin passed away March 7, 2003, at 72 years of age.
He will be missed by his wife Yolande (née Hébert) after 49 years of marriage; his beloved son Miguel; his grandchildren Jeshua, Geneviève, Mireille and Patrick, the joy of his life. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Anne-Marie); his sisters, Suzanne Bérard, Lucienne Catellier, Fernande Carrière and Thérèse Hébert; his in-laws, Lorraine Hébert, Denis and Hélène Hébert, Wilfrid and Jeanne Gosselin, Gilles and Jocelyne Hébert, Carmelle and Gérard Lafantaisie, Léo and Diane Robert; numerous nephews and nieces, as well as three uncles and five aunts.
Gérard was predeceased by his dear son Berne; parents Lucien and Bernadette Gosselin; sister Colette Forest; parents-in-law Joseph and Rose-Alma Hébert; brothers-in-law, Paul Forest, Roméo Catellier, Roger and Guy Hébert; nephews, Ernest and Marc Bérard and Ronald Gosselin; nieces Marie-Paule Preteau and Melanie Catellier.
Gérard was born in St. Malo, Man., Nov. 24, 1930. He resided most of his life on the ancestral homestead, working as a dairy and cereal farmer. He dedicated 25 years of his life as a municipal councillor of the RM of De Salaberry. Having great faith and devotion in the Virgin Mary, Gérard spent much time after retirement working and praying at the Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes grotto in St. Malo.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ahmed of the Health Sciences Centre. Special thanks to Dr. R. Strank and the staff of the De Salaberry Medical Centre, as well as family and friends for their prayers and support.
Mass was concelebrated by Fathers J. Choiselat and R. Forest, accompanied by Deacon Louis Gosselin, on Tuesday, March 11, 2:30 p.m., in the St. Malo Roman Catholic Church in St. Malo. Prayer service was held the evening prior, Monday, March 10, 7:30 p.m., also at the church. Interment took place in the St. Malo Parish Cemetery following the mass.

GERARD OVILA STE. MARIE (JERRY)
Peacefully, Thursday, March 6, 2003, Gerard Ste. Marie passed away at home, at the age of 69 years.
Gerard was born Jan. 27, 1934 in Ste. Anne, Man.
He was predeceased by his mother Wilhelmina, father Adrien, his brother Gabriel and sister Mériza.
Gerard is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann; and their seven children, Suzanne (James Penner), James (Marielle), Brian (Pam), Jeanette (Donald Gregoire), Kathleen (René Saindon), Elizabeth (Fabian Penner), Tracy (Richard Carriere); and his 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother Armand (Georgette), sister Cecile (Roger Legal), sister-in-law Marie, brother-in-law Ron (Dorothy), brother-in-law Larry (Margret) and many nieces and nephews, and family friend Darcy Claeys.
Gerard worked at Swift for 17 years and then at Rothesay for two years.
Gerard enjoyed farming and loved his horses. He would often be seen with his team of horses pulling a wagon in the streets of Ste. Anne, until he suffered a stroke in 1996. Gerard enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, playing cards and spending time with his friends.
Funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday, March 11, 2 p.m., in Ste. Anne Catholic Church, with Father René Chartier presiding. Viewing took place at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Ste. Anne Cemetery at a later date.

JAKE R. PLETT
1933-2003
After a brief illness, Jake R. Plett, age 69, of Steinbach, Man., passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Health Sciences Center, in Winnipeg, Man.
Jake is survived by his wife Gerda; four children, Sharon (Jake) Fehr of Fort St. John, B.C., Frank (Irene) Plett of Steinbach, Rose (Don) Plett of Steinbach, Grace (Pat) Plett of Steinbach; 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
The funeral service will be held Monday, March 17, 2003, 11 a.m., at Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite church on Main Street.
Viewing at Loewen Funeral Chapel, March 16, 7-8 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service.

JOHN WERNER
Our husband, father, grandfather and uncle John Werner was born Jan. 6, 1917 in the Mennonite village of Markowka in West Siberia, USSR. His parents were Johann and Anna Werner (nee Janzen), who had migrated to Siberia from Ukraine as pioneers in the early 1900s. He faced many challenges in his life, beginning in 1921 with the death of his father, grandfather and uncle in one week during a cholera epidemic when he was four years old. His mother remarried and the family moved to Grigorevka, where John grew up. In 1929 the family attempted to escape from Communist Russia but were forcibly sent back to their village in Siberia. Life became increasingly difficult for the family, particularly after the death of his stepfather and during the famines of the early 1930s.
As a young man, John was drafted into the Soviet army; for most of the next 10 years war was a daily part of his life. In 1941 he lost all connections with his family when he was captured by German armies. In 1943 he was drafted into the German army, where he served for the remainder of the war until his capture on the Western Front in May, 1945. He met Margaret Letkeman in Gronau, Germany after the war, while both were preparing to emigrate to Canada under the auspices of MCC. John also renewed his membership of the Mennonite refugee church on Nov. 13, 1949. He married Margaret on Sept. 24, 1951 in Assbach, Germany. John and Margaret came to Canada in June, 1952 and after a brief time in Saskatchewan they settled in Steinbach, Man., where they raised a family of six children. They also made Margaret's parents a part of their family and, after the death of Margaret's sister, her two orphaned children.
John had a wonderful gift for fixing things and worked as an auto mechanic at various Steinbach auto dealerships and at Loewen Windows in his last years before retirement. Our father enjoyed the outdoors and as a family we spent many enjoyable Sunday afternoons at Manitoba's lakes. He was an avid fisherman and after his retirement enjoyed the company of his fishing buddies on the banks and shorelines of their favorite fishing spots. He also had a lifelong interest in model airplanes that eventually flew faster than he thought his reflexes could accommodate. John was never a public person and did not display much outward emotion, but was a dedicated husband and father. He took great pride in the activities and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. We respected and loved him dearly. From him we learned that if something was worth doing, it was worth doing well.
Although John enjoyed wonderful health for most of his life, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in early fall of 2002. He never lost his zest for life and we were able to share it with him even as his strength gradually faded. He died March 10, 2003 after a short stay in hospital. His quiet faith sustained him to the end. Today we celebrate his life and look forward to a reunion in eternity.
John is survived by his wife Margaret; their six children: Hans (Diana) and their children Julia (Jeff) Enns, Melissa and Christopher; Willie (Bev) and their daughters Jillian and Bridgette; Gerhard (Jane) and their sons Adrian and Andrew; Alvina Wiebe (Clare) and their children Heidi, Emery, Amy, and Erik; Sieglinde Hiebert (Randy) and their son Jeremy; Alvin (Lise) and their daughter Sonja; Erwin Vogt (Edna) and Marie Rempel (George) and their children; two sisters in Darmstadt, Germany; and nephews and nieces in Canada and Germany.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2003, 2 p.m., at Steinbach Mennonite church with Pastor Gary Martens officiating. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery.
Friends may pay their last respects at Loewen Funeral Chapel, Friday, March 14, 7-8 p.m. (with devotional at 8 p.m.), also at the church one hour prior to the service.
