Josephine Barkman, nee Giesbrecht, peacefully went to Heaven Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the age of 78, at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital. She will be lovingly remembered by husband Roland and his children: Garry, Sylvia, Kelly, Cathy, Guy, Shelley, Rhonda, Mark; her brother Ernest (Elma) and his children: Jo-Anne, Edward, Geordie, Kim and grandchildren: Jack, Chad, Gavin, Stephen, David, Janna, Michael, Meagan, Krista, Jenna, Karli, Jessica, Abigail; sisters: Anna, Katie, Mary, Minna, Lottie, and her many nieces and nephews.

In 1974 she was appointed Assistant Executive Director, Patient Care Services at the Concordia Hospital. In 1979 she became the Assistant Executive Director of the Seven Oaks Hospital. Josephine was known as the poetess of human goodness and kindness. Anyone who has known her is a better person for having made that contact. The accolade that she was Bethesda's Crown Jewel was very fitting.

Josephine also touched the lives of her many family members and friends. She played a very important role in her brother Ernest's family. She was Jo-Anne's and Geordie's special Aunt Jo.

In 1997, Josephine found the love of her life, Rollie, and they spent seven wonderful years together.

Josephine has left many special memories for all to cherish.

A special thank you to Dr. Grobler and the caring nursing staff at Bethesda.

Dec. 24, 1975 to Jan. 10, 2007

It is with deepest sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of James Scott Kraynyk Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2007 at his home in Winnipeg, MB. James was predeceased by his Gido John Kraynyk, Grandpa Gordon Halverson, Auntie Wendy, and Uncle Rick. He will be cherished in the memories of his parents - Brian and Sonia Kraynyk, Kathy and Chuck Cadger, sisters - Jodi (Mark), Melissa, Jade, Kristal, Tanya, Baba Kraynyk, Grandma Halverson, Baba and Gido Boychuk, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and his many special friends.

Jamie, more than anyone we knew, lived his life to the fullest. The incredible obstacles he faced did not stop him from furthering his dreams. Jamie was the epitome of the phrase, "When life hands you lemons, you just make lemonade." We marvelled as we watched him further his education at college, develop his computer-based business, create a practical and comfortable home for himself, and take charge of his life in any way that would give him maximum independence and control. He was really a model and inspiration to all who knew him.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the many caregivers who helped Jamie enjoy his independence for so many years.

A celebration of Jamie's life was held Monday, Jan. 15 at 10:30 a.m. at Ascension of Our Lord, Ukrainian Catholic Church of Sundown, MB. Interment at the parish cemetery followed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Room ON1160 - 675 McDermot Ave.; Wpg., MB R3E 0V9 or to Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sundown, MB R0A 2C0.

Michael Marynowski was born Aug. 18, 1935 at Caliento, MB. He left us Jan. 16, 2007 with his family at his side at Bethesda Hospital at the age of 71.

Mike worked hard throughout his life. He had a job in the bush loading boxcars with cordwood, planted trees in Sandilands, MB, built houses for Building Products in Winnipeg, MB and farmed all his life until his retirement.

Dad was a very friendly, kind and loving man. You could not leave without coming in for a cup of coffee and conversation. Special thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre and Bethesda Hospital.

Breanna Kaden Alexis was granted her angel wings Jan. 10, 2007. Jesus led her to her eternal home where tears are forgotten and days are filled with immeasurable happiness and peace in the presence of her Father.

Breanna was born Oct. 5, 2006 and from the beginning she brightened our lives and brought us so much joy. While illness made Breanna's little body frail, she possessed strength, perseverance, and a fighting desire to overcome incredible odds and challenges. With her courage she helped us realize that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.

Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are Breanna's loving parents, Bryan and Candace Hiebert. She will be deeply missed by her grandparents, Eddy and Marge Hiebert, John Friesen and Bev Temple, Keith and Jessica Howard; her aunts and uncles Jeff and Mel, Corrie and Todd, Jen and Lyle, Julie and Greg, Carrie and Kevin; and cousins Callie, Katie, and Zach, along with many others, both family and friends.

The family would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge the hundreds of people who have prayed for Breanna and her family. The care and compassion people have shown are a reflection of the love of our Father in heaven.

A tribute to Breanna's life was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 with interment at the Rosengard Cemetary.

We may never understand why you were taken from us so young but we will be forever grateful that you came along at all. Although you never spoke a word, you have left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of all who love you. We know you are with Jesus and we will see you again.

"Jesus said, Let the little children come to me for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

Elvin Goertzen passed away Jan. 13, 2007 at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 2, 1948 to Karl and Katherina Goertzen and grew up on the farm south of Landmark, MB. At a young age he contracted an illness that left him with a mental disability. He attended the Kindale School in Steinbach, and later began work at Kindale Industries where he was employed for 37 years. He enjoyed his work and was appreciated for his woodworking and power-tool skills. The highlight of his week was payday.

He loved family gatherings, especially seeing all his nieces and nephews. This was illustrated by the hand-made gifts he would hand out on these occasions. As well, he always loved the food. From an early age he expressed a deep faith in God and two years ago he was baptized. This gave him a great sense of peace.

In 1999 Elvin was diagnosed with cancer. After major surgery, his recovery was slow, but eventually he was able to return to work. In November of 2000 his Dad had to enter Rest Haven Nursing Home, and Elvin entered foster care. Three years ago his cancer returned. He had many intense struggles with his health, but maintained a positive and loving spirit as he grew weaker and weaker.

Elvin is survived by his father Karl F. Goertzen, formerly of Landmark, two sisters Carolyn (Henry) Huisman of Calgary, AB, Joyce of Winnipeg, MB three brothers Frank (Irene) of Kola, Karl (Grace) and Len (Lottie) all of Winnipeg, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Katherina and a sister Pauline.

The funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Prairie Rose EMC Church, Landmark, MB with burial at the church cemetery. Donations in Elvin's memory may be made to ACL, Steinbach.
