Arla Klippenstein

1947 - 2005

Peacefully, January 28, 2005 at her home in Steinbach, MB, Mrs. Arla Ruth Klippenstein (nee Ritsema), 57 years, of Steinbach (formerly of Niverville), dearly beloved wife of Peter Klippenstein, went home to be with the Lord.

Besides her husband Peter, she will be lovingly remembered by two sons and one daughter: Larry, Jenny, Stephen; her parents Harold and May Ritsema and three brothers John, Jim and Alvin and many relatives and friends.

Shortly after being married, Arla, together with her husband Peter served with S. I. M in Ethiopia for three years. She was also involved in teaching Christian Education in Steinbach and Niverville elementary schools for approximately 25 years, as well as being active in teaching Sunday School. Arla had a great love for music and enjoyed singing in the Emmanuel Church Choir.

Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., in Steinbach on Friday, February 4 at 7 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 5 at 1 p.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave., in Steinbach. Interment at Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville after the lunch.

If friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Elder’s Care Fund at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church or Child Evangelism Fellowship of Manitoba, 179 Henderson Hwy; Winnipeg, MB R2L 1L5.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the church, relatives and friends for their prayers, generous support, encouragement, rides to appointments, palliative care team and home care and to Birchwood Funeral Chapel for taking care of arrangements.


1943 - 2003

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Martha, who passed away July 17, 2003 at Steinbach Bethesda Hospital at the age of 59 years. Mom would have been 60 on August 20.

She will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her husband Albert; daughter Rachel (Ken) Lachnit of Woodridge, sons Brian (Deb) of Winnipeg, Barry of Steinbach and Tim of Winnipeg; grandchildren Heather, Craig and Bronte. She will also be missed by her sister Dorothy (Al) Proulx and her nieces and nephews Debbie, Jackie, Raymond, Ken, Keith, Jeremy and Tabitha and their families.

She was predeceased by her father Raymond, mother Malvina and her only brother Ted.

Mom will be remembered for her kind heart and her wonderful sense of humour. We love you Mom and we will miss you. You were the best wife and mother anyone could ask for.

Prayers will be held on Sunday, July 20, 7:30 pm with viewing prior, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 21, 11 am at the St. Alexander Parish in Woodridge.

Peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2003 with his children at his bedside, William passed away at the age of 88 at the St. Boniface Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (1970), parents Fred and Anne and siblings Pearl, Annie, Nellie, Mary, John and Harry.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Paul (Mary) and daughter Marianne (Walter Hoshowski).Gede will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Rick (Rachel) Lori (Claude Forest) Terri (Casey Braun) Russ (Michelle), Matthew and Corey Hoshowski and 15 great-grandchildren.

William was born on January 28, 1915 in Pansy, MB. Besides working on the family homestead he also owned and operated several gravel trucks. In 1979 he moved to Grunthal, MB. where he resided until his passing. He was a generous, humorous and well thought of man who will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Viewing at 7:00 p.m. and prayers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday July 24 at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr. Steinbach. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pansy, MB Interment will follow at the Pansy Cemetery. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating.


Katherine (Teenie) Zacharias

April 11, 1928 – March 6, 2005

After a lengthy illness, Teenie went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 6, 2005.

Teenie is survived by her loving husband Edwin, sons Melvin (Karen), their children Derek, Brian and Adam; and Don (Suzanne), their children Erica, Aubey and Amy; daughter Joanne (Walter) Harapiak and their children Jillian and Jennifer. Teenie also leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, six brothers and their families. She was predeceased by her twin sister and two brothers.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Victoria General Hospital. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire contributions may be made to Bethel Place, 445 Stafford St.; Winnipeg, MB R3M 3V9

The funeral service will be held at Bethel Mennonite Church, Stafford & Carter, on Thursday, March 10 at 11 a.m. Interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Gordon Gibson

1936 - 2005

Peacefully, surrounded by family, Gordon Gibson, aged 68 years, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2005 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB.

He is lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 41 years Esther, one son Kevin (Reagan) and their children Spencer and Alexandra of Winnipeg and one daughter Tannis (Corey) Nichol and their children Matthew and Emma of Saskatoon, SK. He is also survived by one sister, Geraldine (Jim) Sigvaldason of Dauphin, MB, sisters-in-law Marti (Rufus) Derksen, Erna (Curly) Martens, Sandi (Norm) Senkiw all of Steinbach and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and also his mother and father-in-law.

Gordon was born May 9, 1936 in Inglis, MB. He started off a career with the Royal Bank of Canada and later moved on with the Great West Life Insurance Company, Royal Canadian Mint and then ventured into the auto industry as a business manager and sales rep.

In 1964 he married his true love Esther Funk. They had two children who were the pride and joy of his life. He was also grateful to have enjoyed his four grandchildren.

Gordon loved sports and excelled in hockey as a defenseman, fastball as a pitcher and curling as a skip.

Gordon was a member of the United Church of Canada and served in various areas of the church and had a strong faith in God.

Gordon ventured on a long, courageous journey with Alzheimer’s. He was always so open about his struggles and hardships and was given so much support from those who knew him. Gordon was blessed to be able to live at home and received the ultimate in care, love, respect and understanding from Esther throughout his journey.

He finished the race.”

The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. Duerksen, Dr. Zacharias and Marlee, the nurses at Bethesda Hospital and to all the family and friends for their care and support.

The funeral service will be held Friday, March 18 at 2 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr.; Steinbach. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. with a brief devotional at 7:30 p.m. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.

Barry Frattinger

1960 - 2005

Tragically, we announce the passing of our husband, father, son and brother, Barry James Gervais Frattinger on March 22, 2005 at the intersection of PR 302 and Marchand Rd. Barry died accidentally at the young age of 44 years.

Barry will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of nearly 25 years Carol, daughter Stephanie and son Matthew, parents Paul and Jean Frattinger, three brothers Randy, Pierre (Bernice) and Bruce; five sisters Cheryl Lynn (Noel), Melanie, Gale (Nick), Twylla and LauraLee (Ron); mother-in-law Stella Chopyk, five sisters-in-law Marie, Wilma (Garth), Pat (Winston), Olga and Connie (Tom) and one brother-in-law John (Rose) along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and countless friends. He was predeceased by his son Steven in 1983 and his father-in-law in 1989.

The funeral service will be held at Springs Church, 179 Chapel Drive, Steinbach on Saturday, April 2 at 11 a.m.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the paramedics, La Broquerie and Steinbach Fire Departments, hospital staff, the pastors and for the many friends and family for the support and prayers.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Frattinger Trust Fund at La Broquerie Caisse Populaire.
