Samuel D. Goldstein

March 5, 2001

The death of Mr. Samuel D. Goldstein, husband of Lillian P. (Meltzer) Goldstein, of Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, occurred on Monday, March 5, 2001 at his residence after a lengthy illness.

Born in Montreal, Quebec, he was the son of the late Abraham and Sarah (Cramer) Goldstein.

For many years, Samuel had worked for many different local businesses as an electrician. In 1961, he started his own company, Central Electric. He also was responsible for training many electrical apprentices in his younger years. Mr. Goldstein was a member of the Canadian Jewish War Veterans Association, and was also a member of the Shaarei Zedek Synagogue. He enjoyed the horse races, and always had a kind word to say about everyone.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian, one daughter, Miriam (Bob) Reder of Calgary, AB, one son, Arthur of Thailand, two grandsons, Jonathan and Marc Reder, both of Calgary, AB, two sisters, Yetta of California and Frances of Calgary, AB, several nieces and nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Harry Goldstein.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 3:30 P.M., from Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506) 634-7424. Interment will take place at Shaarei Zedek Cemetery.

Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

BARBARA A. HARWOOD

The death of Mrs. Barbara Ann Harwood, of Saint John, wife of Paul Harwood, occurred on Tuesday, February 27, 2001, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, on April 5, 1966, she was the daughter of John (Ian) and Esther (Laughland) Shanks.

Barbara was employed at Fundy Cable for several years, and was a member of the Church of St. John & St. Stephen.

Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by her children, Bradly P., Dylan M., Nicole E. and Kimberly A., all at home, one brother, John B. Shanks of Mississippi, one sister, Jacqueline Elizabeth (Mrs. Mark Henneberry) of Rothesay, grandmother, Annie L. Shanks of Scotland, father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Joan Harwood of Ontario, brothers-in-law, Michael (Leslie) Harwood and David (Tina) Harwood, both of Ontario, several nieces and nephews.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424), with visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at the Church of St. John & St. Stephen, Coburg Street, Saint John, on Friday, March 2, 2001 at 11:00 AM. Following cremation interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Church of St. John & St. Stephen, would be appreciated by the family.

Mildred Blanche Hastings

February 18, 2001

Hastings, Mildred Blanche The death of Mildred Blanche Hastings, wife of the late Charles Hastings, of Saint John, occurred on February 18, 2001, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John she was the daughter of the late Edwin A. and Rebecca J. (Saunders) Leonard. She was employed with Vicars Foundry, the TB Hospital, the Saint John General Hospital and Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 53. She is survived by her sons Charles L. and his wife Marilyn of Saint John, Paul E.R. and his wife Margaret of Saint John, her daughter Donna Long of Saint John East, her brother Ernest Leonard of Saint John, fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Edwin Leonard and her sister Annie O’Brien.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting from 7-9 PM on Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at 11:00 AM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place at Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Canadian Diabetes Association of the Kidney Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Margaret Nicholson

The death of Margaret (Peggy) Nicholson of Somerset Street wife of the late Norman Douglas Nicholson occurred on Sunday, February 25,2001 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Victoria Cross, PEI she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Gladys (VanIderstine) Lamont. Peggy was employed with Work Place Health and Safety until her retirement and was a member of St. John and St. Stephen Church. She is survived by two sons Jim (Beverley) and Randolph (Rand) both of Saint John, three brothers Alexander (Sandy) (Sybil), Jimmy (Verna) McLean and Donnie (Peggy) Lamont, four sisters Eleanor (Moody) MacDonald, Ruth (George) Bowley, Cassie (Walter) Hynrick and Irene (Ed) Huskins, two grandchildren Geordie (Lisa) and Sarah Nicholson, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers Chester, George and Ralph McLean.

By request of the family there will be no funeral home visitation a memorial service will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home 111 Paradise Row Saint John (506-634-7424).

Donald Perley Edward (Donny) Stevens

February 16, 2001

Stevens, Donald Perley Edward (Donny) The death of Donald Perley Edward (Donny) Stevens, husband of Jean (Palmer) Stevens, occurred on February 16, 2001, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John he was the son of the late Ernest and Irene (Buckley) Stevens. He was employed with Wilson Fish, Cash & Carry, Sun Track, the Port of Saint John, Keddy’s, and Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd. He was also a well known musician in various circles in the Saint John Area. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons Robert (Alanna) of Toronto, ONT, Terry (Susan) of Toronto, ONT, Danny (Cecilia) of Saint John, David (Janie) of Saint John, his daughters Debra Stevens (Chuck) of Saint John, Sonia Parent (Paul) of Saint John, Wendy Durant (Donny) of Toronto, ONT, his brothers Roy (Rita) of Saint John, Teddy (Margie) of Saint John, Greg (Carol) of Saint John, his sisters Carol Valley (Gilbert) of Saint John, Sonia Pye of Brown’s Flat, his brother-in-law Roy Pye of Saint John, his sister-in-law Noreen Stevens of Saint John, his twenty-two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Joanie Pye, his brother Harold Stevens and his brother-in-law Donny Pye.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Monday from 7-9 PM and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2001, at 1:00 PM from Brenan’s Chapel. Interment will take place at Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery. Remembrances made to the NB Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.

CHARLOTTE REMONA (MONA) ALLISON

The death of Charlotte Remona Allison, of Ellerdale Street, wife of the late Philip S. Allison occurred on March 17, 2001 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Montreal the daughter of the late William & Mary (McCubbin) Davis. Mona was a member of St. James the Less Anglican Church and their ACW. She did volunteer work at the Saint John Regional Hospital receiving a pin for donating 5000 hours. She is survived by her two sons Philip J. (Caroll Hennessy) Allison, Peter (Brenda Losier) Allison; one daughter Heather Allison of Toronto; one brother Jim (Eunice) Davis of Victoria, BC; one sister Catherine Devenny of Whitby, On; grandchildren Jennifer (Terry) Wilson, Brian (Lisa) Allison, Scott (Chiyoko) Allison; great grandchildren Terrance, Shekinah, Amanda; and niece, Margaret Doucherty of Whitby, On. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by one sister, Evelyn Belyea.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Tuesday, March 20, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral will be held from St. James the Less Church on Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at 11:00 am. Remembrances may be made to a charity of donor’s choice. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery.

Frances G. Beck

March 2, 2001

BECK, FRANCES G.- The death of Mrs. Frances Gratia Beck, of Saint John, wife of the late Arnold D. Beck, occurred on Friday, March 2, 2001, at Carleton Kirk Lodge. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Born in Waterville, Maine, USA, she was the daughter of the late George and Eliza (Earle) Park.

Mrs. Beck was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church and the Maude Taylor Branch ACW. She was a former member of St. George’s Anglican Church Choir, Silver Threads Senior Citizens Club, Stephenson Tower Social Club and the Charlton Place Senior Citizens Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Irvine Williams) of Fredericton and Jeannie Fox of British Columbia, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one brother, Richard Park and two sisters, Elizabeth Brown and Mary White.

Funeral service will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, March 5, 2001, at 2:15 PM. Interment in Fernhill Cemetery. Elizabeth Britt

The death of Elizabeth Britt, wife of the late Joseph Roy Britt, occurred on May 20, 2001, at her residence. Born in Charlottetown, PEI, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Quinn. She was a long time member of Stella Maris and St. John the Baptist Parishes. She enjoyed knitting. She is survived by her sons David and his wife Penny of Fort McMurray, ALBT, Brian of Saint John, Wayne and his wife Wendy of Saint John, her daughter Sondra and her husband Ed Bruni of Winnipeg, MAN, her eleven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and her niece. She is predeceased by her daughter Marlene and sisters May, Florence and Dorothy.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row (634-7424), with visiting on Thursday, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 25, 2001, at 10:00 AM, from St. Ann’s Church. Interment will take place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Remembrances made to the Canadian Red Cross, the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Daryl Thomas Green

The death of Mr. Daryl Thomas Green, of Sutton, Ontario, husband of Ellen L. (Scott) Green, occurred on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Allan and Marion Green.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Keith (Sue) of Titusville, Jason, Daryl Jr. (Heather), and Todd all of Saint John, adopted son, Justin Scott of Saint John, three daughters, Kim Donally (Clifton), Lisa Green, both of Saint John and Jane Kelly (Dave) of Grand Bay-Westfield, step-children, Aubrey Stewart and Lauralee Stewart, both of Ontario, two brothers, Robert Green of Grand Bay-Westfield and David Green of Saint John, six sisters, Pauline McRae of British Columbia, Ninny Kilpatrick of Alberta, Faith Watts of Rothesay, Verla Hayes of Saint John, Donna Wong of Nauwigewauk and Patsy O’Neill of Rothesay, 12 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Dorcas Thorne.

Resting at Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Sunday and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held at Calvary Temple, Saint John, on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at 11:00 AM. Interment in Hardings Point Loyalist Cemetery. Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Kingsley N. (King) Bailey

The death of Mr. Kingsley N. (King) Bailey of Highland Road, Saint John, husband of Johanna (Jansen) Bailey, occurred on Thursday, November 29, 2001 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Saint John, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Thibodeau) Bailey.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, G. Kingsley (King) Bailey and his wife Karen of Saint John, two sisters, Kathleen MacDonald and Margaret Bailey, both of Saint John, five grandchildren, Scott, Mark, Allison, Katrina and Nicholas, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Walter and one sister Marie Baird.

By request of Mr. Bailey, there will be no visiting or funeral service. Remembrances to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements under the direction of Brenan’s Select Community Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424).
