John Hebert Welch
1921 - 2008

John Hebert Welch, 86, passed away peacefully at the Dr Everett Chalmers Hospital on August 5, 2008. Born Oct 5, 1921 in Kittiminster, England, John immigrated to Canada as a farm child at a very young age and settled in Richmond Corner. He spent the rest of his life in the Woodstock area. He was a veteran of World War II and was honored as a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Woodstock. John was a devoted volunteer for the Legion and the community activities it supports. Predeceased by his loving wife, Jean (McIntosh); in 1999 he leaves behind 4 sons, Charles (Anne MacInnis) Liverpool, NS; Gary, Fredericton, NB; Larry (Charlene Biggar) Fredericton, NB; David (Jennifer Campbell) San Jose, CA; 7 grandchildren, (Melanie, Adrienne, Jay, Karleigh, Jason, Angela, Tracy) and three great grandchildren, (Jillian, Max, Ruari). Visitation was held at The Carleton Funeral Home 337 Lockhart Mill Road Jacksonville, NB on Friday, August 8 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Legion service was held Aug 8 at 6:45pm at the funeral home. Funeral service was held on Saturday, August 9 from the Carleton Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM. Interment was in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Heart & Stoke Foundation, or the Woodstock Royal Canadian Legion. Elaine Wry

Elaine Wry, age 58, of Woodstock, N.B., passed away Sunday, July 6, 2008. She was born in Woodstock, N.B., the daughter of Lily and Eugene Atherton and raised by Irene and Charles Bradley. She is survived by husband, David; daughter, and son-in-law, Lori and Andrew Garnett; son, Greg; and granddaughter, Emma Garnett. She is also survived by sisters, Rhoda (Dale) Herrick; Sheila (Danny) Porelle; brothers, Mike (Pat) Atherton; Doug (Diane) Atherton; Rick (Pauline) Atherton; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother, James; and his wife, Sharon Atherton. Elaine was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Elaine also worked along side her husband for 30 years in the restaurant and convenience store business. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed Bingo, dancing, house cleaning and spending time with friends and family. The funeral service was held on July 9 at the St. Luke's Anglican Church, Woodstock. The Venerable Walter Williams officiated. Pallbearers were Eugene Carr, Noel Perley, Clifford Wright, Garnet Fox, Charles Wry and Stephen Wood. Interment was in the Woodstock Rural Cemetery.

Basil J. Campbell

Basil John Campbell ,66, of People's Park Tower, Moncton passed away while on vacation in Charlottetown P.E.I. on Wednesday August 6, 2008. Born in Gordonsville he was a son of the late George H. and Lulla (Clark) Campbell. Basil retired as a payroll manager with Apex Industries. Throughout his life he used his musical talent as a witness to his Lord and for over 25 years participated in the Sunday evening hymn sing at People's Park Tower. He was also a member of the Moncton Men's Gospel Chorus and attended the Lutes Mountain Church of the Nazarene and other area churches and bible study groups. He enjoyed travelling, photography and genealogy of the Campbell family. Survived by a sister, Doreen Sharp (Bernard) of Wakefield; a brother, Burley (Susan) Campbell of Gordonsville; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces; and nephews; and many good friends. Predeceased by a brother, George. A memorial service will be held from the Bristol Wesleyan Church Saturday August 16 at 1pm with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Interment will be at the Gordonsville Cemetery.

G. Frederick (Freddie) Moar

Freddie Moar, of Martin Street, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008. Freddie was the son of the late George and Margaret (Farrah) Moar, and was born on September 8, 1946. In addition to his loving wife and best friend, Lorraine (Kenny), he is survived by daughter Heather (Kevin) Dunn, and sons Steven (Grace) and Andy (Tammy) He also leaves to mourn, grandchildren Jordan, Tanner, Ryan and Tayler; sisters Lulu (Joseph) Malley and Dorothy (Bill) Nowlan, all of the Miramichi; brothers Peter (Miramichi) and Kevin (Riverview); uncle Charles Farrah (Miramichi), and aunt Mary Lou Martin, Los Angeles, California. as well as a number of nieces and nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Freddie was predeceased by a grandchild, Allen., who died in infancy. Freddie was a former long-time employee of William J. Kerr Construction Ltd., and latterly was employed by AJC Trucking and by the Department of Transportation N.B. At his request, there was no visitation. His remains were forwarded for cremation and a mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Basilica, with Father John Fraser officiating, on Tuesday, August 19, 2008. St. Michael's Choir under the direction of Joan Leger and with organist Norma Sugden, rendered appropriate Hymns. Readers were nephew, Tim Nowlan and Debbie Cabel, Intercessions were read by Bill Nowlan, and an eulogy was given by sister, Dorothy Nowlan. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Nowlan, Tim Nowlan, Norman Cabel, Troy Cable, Peter Malley, Robert Malley, Raymond Moar, Eddie Moar, Johnny Moar, Joe Pyne, David Dutcher, Michael Hannah, Terry Smith, Leo Melanson, Chris Sickles, Richard Kerr, Reid Wishart, Arthur Connell, Blaine Farrah, Lloyd Mills and Bill Cook. Following the mass, interment took place at St. Michael's Cemetery. A reception followed, in the Parish Hall. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi, NB Telephone 773-4321.

Vernon Daley

Bathurst - Vernon Daley, 93, of Bridge St., Bathurst, passed away on Friday (August 15, 2008) at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, after a brief illness. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Chester and Katie (Payne) Daley. Two sons: Robert (Elizabeth) of North Tetagouche, Donald (Sharon) of Fredericton; one daughter: Thelma Astle (Peter) of Sunny Corner; three brothers and three sisters; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Howard; three sisters; and a brother. The body rested at Elhatton's Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst. Funeral Service was held on Tuesday (August 19, 2008) at 2:00 p.m. from the Funeral Home Chapel, Bathurst. Burial was in the United Cemetery, Bridge St., Bathurst. Donations in memory of Vernon may be made to the First United Church.

COBHAM, DORIS. B.

The funeral service for the late Doris B. Cobham, wife of the late William F. "Buster" Cobham, formerly of Saint John East and the Kings Way Care Centre of Quispamsis was held on November 22, 2008 from Castle Funeral Home "Fallsview Chapel". The service was conducted by Rev. Dan Dryer. The organist was Carol Harris. The pallbearers were Carmen Pike, John Batten, Terry Sevenson, Scott Crosby, Ted Cosman, and Clayton Wade. Remembrances of Mrs. Cobham were shared by her sister Violet Matheson, and grandchildren Kimberly Muir and Scott Crosby. Among the many floral tributes were those from family and friends. Donations in memory of Mrs. Cobham were made to the Palliative Care Unit of the SJRH, Alzheimer's Society, N.B. Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Mindcare N.B., SJRH Foundation. Donations were also made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Kingston United Baptist Church, Glenview United Church, and to the Church of the Good Shepherd. Interment took place in Old Cedar Hill Cemetery with prayers by Rev. Dryer. The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the staff at Kings Way Care Centre and the staff of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home during this difficult time.

SMITH, FREDERICK A.

The death of Frederick "Fred" Arnold Smith of Plumweseep, NB occurred on December 17, 2008 at the age of 85. Born at Dunsinane, NB, a son of the late Flossie Smith Leake and stepson of the late Harry Leake. Fred is survived by his wife Margaret (Coates) Smith; children, Tamara Smith Wilson (Daniel), Susan Thompson (Richard Prosser), Pam Munroe, Clifford Smith, Rose Freeze, Stephanie Ness and Lorraine Panchuk; many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Fred was predeceased by children, Robert, Debbie and Stephen Smith. The family will receive visitors at the Sussex Select Community Funeral Home, 21 Aiton Road Sussex (506-433-2133) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9PM. Sussex Branch #20 Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Tribute at 6:45PM Friday. The funeral service will be held on Saturday December 20, 2008 at 2:00PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. www.sussexfh.com

WADDELL, PETER JOHN

The sudden death of Peter John Waddell occurred on May 28th, 2010 at his home in Alexandria, Ontario at age 54. A memorial service was held on June 25th, 2010 at Munroe & Morris Funeral Home in Alexandria, followed by a reception at the "Abbey" for the arts. Peter is survived by his parents, Keith and Helen (Thompkins) Waddell, his sister Deborah, brother-in-law John Robertson and their children Elena and Coleman. He had many relatives in Ontario and Fredericton, New Brunswick.

SPENCER, BRENDA JOYCE

The passing of Brenda Joyce Spencer of Fredericton, NB, wife of Brent Spencer occurred on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 23, 1954 in Charlottetown, PE, she was the daughter of Leonard Peters and the late Vera (Martin) Peters. She was a member of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church. Brenda worked in housekeeping at York Manor Nursing Home. She loved being active, which included biking and exercising. She also enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes. Everyone will miss Brenda's beautiful smile. In addition to her husband of 35 years and father, Brenda is survived by her two sons, Jason Spencer (Sara) and their son, Rowan of St. Jacob's, ON and Kurt Spencer (Shelly) and their son, Cameron of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Judy Totten (Bernie) of Masstown, NS and Joyce Carmichael (Mike) of Albany, PE; brothers, Brian Peters (Cathie) of Kamloops, BC, Gordon Peters (Rena) of Ottawa, ON, John Peters (Cathy) of Charlottetown, PE and Paul Peters (Jane) of Calgary, AB; mother-in-law, Mabel Spencer of Quispamsis, NB; sister-in-law, Colleen Thomson (Doug) of Quispamsis, NB; brother-in-law, Gerald Spencer (Janice) of Calgary, AB; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her father-in-law, Douglas Spencer. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Sunday, July 11, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 12, 2010 at 11:30 am with Father John Jennings as celebrant. In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
