JAMES, John, of Carbonear - passed away suddenly at the Carbonear General Hospital, Friday, October 10, in his 69th year.
He leaves to mourn four sisters: Mary Dunphy, Carbonear; Helen Rose, Victoria; Patricia (Jim) Penney, Ontario; Veronica (Douglas) Pike, Spaniards Bay.
One sister-in-law: Olive James, Summerville; three brothers: Leo (Nancy), Barrie, ON; Frank (Heather), Toronto, ON; Edward (Joan), Carbonear; nieces and nephews, especially Sue Rose and a large circle of relatives and friends.
The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 14 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church, Carbonear followed by the interment at St. Patrick's cemetery.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Slade's Funeral Home, Powell Drive, Carbonear.
Daily visitation 10 a.m.-12 noon, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers or donations may be made to the John James Memorial Fund.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Slade's Funeral Home, Carbonear.

KING, Melvin - Passed suddenly away at the Health Science Centre, St. John's on Friday, Oct. 10, Melvin King of Mount Pearl, age 50 years. Predeceased by parents: George and Margaret King and brother George.
Leaving to mourn one daughter: Krista (friend Matthew); one son Jeffrey (friend Sheena); three brothers: Freeman (Ursula) and Victor (Ruby) both of Carbonear and Ralph (Patsy), Victoria; five sisters: Marjorie Agnew, London, ON; Matilda (Albert) Crann, Fairhaven; Gladys (Guy) Thomas, Carbonear; Gloria (Tom) Badcock and Cynthia (Albert) King both of Victoria; sister-in-law Barbara King, Carbonear.
Also a large number of other relatives and friends.
Resting at Noel's Funeral Home, Water Street, Carbonear until 12 noon Monday, Oct. 13.
Funeral to follow at 2 p.m. from the United Church and cemetery, Perry's Cove.
Visitation hours at Noel's Funeral Home are 10:30 a.m.-12 noon, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9:30 p.m. daily.

MARTIN, Bridget - Passed peacefully away at her home on Thursday, October 9, 1997, Bridget Martin (nee Kearney), aged 67 years.
Predeceased by her brother Bernard in 1995.
Leaving to mourn with many fond and loving memories her husband of 44 years, Dermot; sons: Bob (wife Arlene) of Gander; Gerard of Alberta and Desmond (fiancee Trina) of Alberta; daughters: Mary Martin of NB; Donna Parrell (Fred) of St. Philips and Michelle Burke (Gord) of Alberta; beloved grandchildren: Daniel Martin, Theresa and Charlene Jennings, Michael and Sarah Parrell, Matthew Burke.
Also leaving to mourn brothers: William, James and Robert; sisters: Helen Hayes, Julia Farrell and Frances Dwyer; sister-in-law Anne Kearney and their families, other relatives and friends.
Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral mass to take place on Monday, October 13, 1997 at 11 a.m. from St. Paul's Church with interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Muscular Dystropy Association or the Epilepsy Foundation.

MERCER, William - Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizens Home, Carbonear, on Friday, October 10, 1997, William Mercer, of Upper Island Cove, aged 84 years.
Mr. Mercer was a veteran of WWII, having served in the Royal Navy, and was a member of the Naval Association of Newfoundland.
He is predeceased by his wife Muriel, 1993.
Leaving to mourn, with fond and loving memories, four sons: George, Upper Island Cove, Ralph (Bridget), Riverhead, Hr. Grace, Nathan (Debbie), St. Lunaire, and Leslie (Peggy), Upper Island Cove; two daughters: Cavell (John MacInnis), Charlottetown, P.E.I., Lorraine (Noel Sheppard), Spaniard's Bay; one brother: Henry Mercer, Pentecostal Home, Clarke's Beach; 12 grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Resting at Young's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay, with visitation hours from 10:30 a.m.- 10:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral service will take place on Monday, October 13, at 2 p.m. from St. Peter's Anglican Church and cemetery, Upper Island Cove.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Newfoundland Alzheimer's Association.

MURPHY, Nora - Our beloved mother.
Passed peacefully away at home in Whitbourne, TB on Friday, Oct. 10, 1997.
Predeceased by husband Alfred and son Thomas.
Leaving to mourn daughters; Josephine (Andrew Oakley), Topsail; Joan (Tom Myles) B.C.; Madonna (David French), Port Kirwin; Margaret Murphy, Calgary; and Linda (John Dobbin), Markland.
Sons: Hubert (Darlene), Manitoba; Alfred Jr. (Betty), South Dildo; Reginald (Lynn), Mississauga; Captains David and Lilly, Manitoba.
Also 49 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren.
Two sisters: Rita Parrott, Salmonier and Mary Robson, St. John's and a very special family friend Eugene Nicholl, and a circle of other relatives and friends.
Resting at Holloway's Funeral Home, Whitbourne.
Funeral mass 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 1997.
Interment at R.C. cemetery, Whitbourne.
Rest in peace Mom.

ROCHE, Patrick Joseph ­ Branch, S.M.B., Passed peacefully away on Thursday, October 9, 1997 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, age 83 years.
Predeceased by his wife Sarah (Sadie), 1970.
Leaving to mourn three children: Patrick, Mary (Kass Janko) and Raphael (Dawn); three grandchildren: Jason, Kelly and Tracey; one sister Rose (Crane); 11 nieces and nephews.
Resting at Caul's Funeral Home on Friday and Saturday.
On Sunday Mr. Roche will be waking at Holy Rosary R.C. Church in Branch, S.M.B.
Funeral will be on Monday, October 13.

GOSSE, Eric Martin (Flt. Lt., R.A.F., WWII Veteran) - ­ Died at his home in Spaniard's Bay on Saturday, December 6, 1997, in his 86th year.
Leaving to mourn his wife Madeline; son Robert (Linda); four daughters: Barbara Winsor (Bruce), Joanna Gray (Ernie), Carolyn Morgan (Paul) and Suzanne MacDonald (Patrick); sisters: Mabel Jerrett (Allan), Cavell Dawe, Florence Sheppard (Claude); grandchildren: Janet, Sandra, Peter, Brent, Brian, Linda, Andre, Jack, Adrienne, Lauren, Joanna and Joshua; great-grandchildren: Kayla, Madeline, Brittany and Tyler.
Resting at Young's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay.
Visitation will take place from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday.
Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. from the United Church, Spaniard's Bay.
Donations in Eric's memory may be made to the Newfoundland Historical Society.

MARTIN, Sheila Kathleen ­- Passed peacefully away, in the presence of her loving family December 7th, 1997
Sheila Kathleen (Brazil) Martin, age 78 years.
Predeceased by her husband Edward (Ned), May 1997.
Leaving to mourn her sad loss, son John (Tina); very special granddaughter Judy Lynn; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth (Liz), Mary and Hilda (England); and a large number of nieces and nephews and special friends.
Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road Monday and Tuesday.
Visiting hours 2-4 p.m. and 7-10 p.m.

PEARCE, Catherine (Kay) - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, in the presence of her family, on Friday, December 5, 1997, Catherine (Kay) Pearce (nee O'Neill), age 82.
Predeceased by loving husband Ronald and son-in-law Albert Pellegrinetti.
Leaving to mourn daughters: Geraldine, Rosalita, and Marie; sons: John (Dianna), Gorden (Susan), Kevin (Jeanette) and David (Trudy).
Special grandson Lee.
Grandchildren: Heather, Nichole, Sean, Stephen, Cory and Daniel.
Sister-in-law Margret O'Neill.

RICE, Thomas Martin - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Friday, December 5, 1997, Thomas Martin Rice, age 67 years.
Predeceased by his brother John (Chic) in 1989.
Left with fond and cherished memories wife Mary (nee McDonald); sons: Robert (Trudy) and Greg (Mary); sisters: Carmel King (Michael) and Rosemary Clarke.
Also left to mourn his five beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Stephanie, Stephen, Nicole and Robert.
Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road.
Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, December 9, 1997 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Teresa's Church.
Interment in Holy Sepulchre cemetery.

VIVIAN, Lillian Isabel Elizabeth (nee Hall) ­- Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on Friday, December 5, 1997 after a lengthy illness, Lillian Isabel Elizabeth Vivian, aged 72 years.
Predeceased by her son John in 1989.
Leaving to mourn her husband Albert; daughter Catherine Davidson (Bruce); grandson Spencer Davidson; two brothers: Ewart Hall (Shirley) and Fred Hall (Jean); one sister Margaret Shepherd; daughter-in-law Susan Rideout-Vivian.
Also leaving to mourn a large circle of other relatives and friends.
Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday; and 10 a.m. - 12 noon on Monday.
Funeral Service 2 p.m. on Monday, December 8, 1997 from St. Augustines Anglican Church, Westerland Road.
Interment to follow at the Anglican cemetery, Kenmount Road.
Flowers gratefully declined.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Nfld. and Lab. Lung Association.
