Liberal MLA, Oak Bay - Gordon Head
Ida Chong was elected to the British Columbia Legislature in the May 1996 general election, as the successful Liberal candidate in the Oak Bay-Gordon Head riding.
Ms. Chong was born in Victoria, B.C. In 1981, she was accredited as a Certified General Accountant in the province. Since 1985 she has been a partner in the Victoria firm of Kasteloo & Chong.
In 1993, Ida was elected to Saanich municipal council. She served as a director of the Capital Regional District in 1995-96, as chair of the district's audit and finance committee from 1994 to 1996, and as vice chair of the Corporate Administration and Regional Growth Committee of the Capital Regional District in 1996. From 1994 to 1996 she was a member of the Greater Victoria Inter-Municipal Committee. Ms. Chong has also held a number of directorships: Greater Victoria Economic Development Commission (1995), Community Council of Social Planning (1994), Silver Threads Service of Greater Victoria (1995-96), Capital Region Housing Corporation (1996), S.V.I. (Southern Vancouver Island) Chapter Board of the CGA Association of B.C. (1984-90 and 1987-89 as chair), and the Victoria Chinese Commerce Association (1992-96).
Ms. Chong is engaged to be married.
