Liberal MLA, Chilliwack
Barry Penner is an elected member of the British Columbia Legislature and the youngest member of the Official Opposition. He represents the community of Chilliwack, located approximately one hour east of Vancouver by car. Chilliwack has a population of about 65,000 people.
Mr. Penner's grandparents moved to the Fraser Valley more than fifty years ago, and Barry was raised and educated in Chilliwack. He graduated from Simon Fraser University in 1989 after studying government and economics. In 1992, he earned a law degree from the University of Victoria.
Barry has worked at a local saw mill, at the East Chilliwack Co-op and as a park ranger at Cultus Lake Park and Manning Park. Later, he worked at the B.C. Legislature and in Thailand for an international law firm. He returned to Chilliwack and has been practising law since 1992.
Barry is a member of Sardis Community Church, the Chilliwack Chamber of Commerce and is an honourary member of the Chilliwack Rotary Club.
